1997 Q45. Best car I've ever owned
Well I've waited over five years to post this review. I purchased this car with the intent of just "flipping" it. I work as a car salesman and new the value of the car when my customer traded it in. At the time fuel was about $3.85 a gallon and I drove a 4WD SUV and I commuted 60+ miles per day. I started driving the Q45 for a few weeks just waiting to get my tags in the mail so I could sell it for a profit. Instead, I fell in life ve with the car and sold my SUV that was several years newer. I purchased the Q45 when it had 140k on it. It currently has over $225k (quarter of a million miles) and the only repairs I have had to do on the car is the power steering pump and a new radiator outside of regular maintenance like brakes, alternator, etc... The comfort is second to none, even with today's cars. It rides like you are on clouds. It also handles great on the highway and city. I live in Kansas and still take it on trips to Texas and the mountains of new Mexico. Very solid car and definitely the best car I've ever owned

I LOVE my 1997 Q45!
I have owned my 1997 Q45 for a year now. I bought it, one owner, from a meticulous person who took awesome care of it and it was garage kept. It's the pearl color with beige leather interior. I have tinted glass and 156,000 miles on it. Other then normal maintenance wear and tear, there have been no problems with this car. It's powerful, fun to drive and I get looks at every corner. I LOVE this car. I drive it locally around my town, but it could easily make it across country if I wanted. My car has near mint paint and interior is flawless. I keep the car in pristine condition and have maintained it with an obsessive mindset.
luxurious comfort
Luxury beyond belief, with all the performance one could expect from a heavy touring vehicle. Smooth as glass on the highway, easy to drive, chock full of extras, lacking only heated seats and exterior rear-view mirrors. Parts are ridiculously expensive - affordable only by those who can afford the $55K sticker price! But service, although expensive, has been first class - always a free loaner, too. Requires premium fuel, but I've consistenly used regular with no problems. At 170K miles, still strong as new, but has been costly to replace the usual wear- and age-related parts.
Q45 - Best Car for the Traveling Salesma
This is my second Q45. As someone who used to drive 50000 miles per year and still drives 25000 a year, it is by far the most comfortable and reliable vehicle I have ever owned. It is best to purchase a Program / Lease after 2 years due to the extreme difference in new car sale and 2 year old sale price. My brother has also had 2 Q45' and drove the first one (1990) for 10 years and 400000 miles.
best car ever
Ive had it for over a year. Zero problems. Without Question the best car I've ever owned. Love every aspect of it except the trunk.
Mixed Reviews
Ride ok, Comfortable seats, pretty good car, better than my 94', few problems.Bought it off lease 39k from Infiniti dealer. Bad battery, tires and front end vibration at 80 mph and above.Has not been a nice experience. I will probably get some sort of SUV and a Benz again. 2 Q's in 4 years and they both have problems is too much for me. Both bought from same dealer.(:-((
planning to buy a used V8? This is it!
Thanks to LS400's popularity, the Q45 looses its value very quickly. Bad, if you are interested a new Q. But a 3 yr old Q is a great bang for the buck compared to LS. Super Quality/reliability & comfort. Like all luxury cars, maintenance is expensive. If you can find a reliable independent technician, thats the best way to save money. Most important, doing proper and regular maintenance (like fluid exchanges etc.) can keep the car trouble free for years. I have friends who owned early Qs for more than 300K miles!!! Excellent car for cruising. No stress driving for thousands of miles. Just the best used V8 u can find out there.Good luck!
11 yrs old and 170K miles, runs great..
Hope this helps with those questioning Infiniti Q45 reliability. I have owned this for 8+yrs now, the odometer reads 170K miles. The only parts needed replacement were alternator ($300) and an ABS relay ($25). All else are running flawlessly and my mileage is between 18-21 mpg (within specs). Can't be happier - I hope I can run this for another 5+yrs. Maintenance is simple: Flush all fluids (AT, PS, brake, differential, coolant) every 2 years - doesn't matter mileage or usage. Your vehicle will remain gold. No need to do 30k/60k etc, which are primarily inspection-only.
Ignition Coil Problem or not?
Have driven my Q45 for 6 years without any problems. Last January, it started misfiring while idling in gear. I have had it to 3 different shops and replaced plugs with iridium plugs and a couple of ignition coils #4 & 2. I am still having the same problem after all of this work.
The Best Car I have ever Owned!
I've owned this 1997 Q45t for over 10 years and except for normal wear items, tires, brakes, etc. it has not cost me a think to maintain. I just had it at the Dealership to have one of the Exhaust System shields removed because it had come loose, no charge and the service manager said they had customers with the 1997 Q45 with 300,000 miles on them. I have 130,000 and it still drives like new. My other cars for 40 years have always been Corvettes, but I enjoy driving my Q45t. When I bring my Q45t in for service I always get a free loaner, a new G37 which is also fun to drive, but I'm always happy to get my Q back.
Nissan-New Yorker
I love this car, it's not as common as the Lexus 400's that seem to be around every corner.
SMOOTH
We bought this car after selling our 1993 Q45... (tired of the repair bills) Although not as "Sporty" as the '93 it is much more plush in comfort and ride. It still scoots when you floor it but because of the softer ride it just dosn't seem as fast. (it actually is real close) The great thing about th '97 on up is they seem to be much more reliable. except for oil changes we have had to do nothing..For what we paid ($16,500) we could have got a new Civic but I think the ride/comfort is just a little nicer with the Q.. Overall a great Car
1997 Q45t
This is the best car I have ever owned, it has not cost me $1 for repairs of any kind. I have only done normal maintance, oil, tires, brakes, etc. My next car will be another Infiniti, a Q45 and a G35 coupe.
Sofa on wheels
It's so quiet and comfy it feels like you're in your living room cruising at 95 mph.
Infiniti Q45---THE BEST!!!
The name "Infiniti" says it all: they last forever and hold up for infinity! This is the best pre-owned car I have ever had over the past 40 years. It looks & drives like a new car with many advanced(for 1997) luxury features that make it a pleasure to drive on long and short trips. These are "stealth" sports cars designed to look like pure luxury cars...it gets down the road fast and handles like a sports cars while maintaining the look and feel of a luxury sedan...I love my Q45 and suggest that everyone try one of these fine cars, that is, if you can find one, they're scarce & their owners seem to hold onto them forever---which I can now understand!
sshhh!!.......it's a secret!!
I bought my 97 Q45 in near perfect condition from a Cadillac dealership. It needed an alignment and two new exhaust tips. The dealership replaced a pulley and one of the belts. the ride is extremely comfortable, and the power is exhilirating! Mechanically, the car has performs soundly. For a car that is 7 years old, the interior has held up incredibly well. All of the buttons, knobs, etc. are still in perfect condition. All of the creature features perform admirably, except for the driver's seat lumbar control. TIP: Nissan can perform the regular maintenance on Infiniti cars/trucks...usually for less.
Lexus stole my review
I can't believe it, shortly after writing a previous review of my Q45, Lexus came out with a TV ad about a family in their living room cruising at high speed. Talk about stealing ideas.
Excellence
My Q45 is outstanding. I love the vehicle without question. The enginering is awesome. I feel my car is the absolute best.
Excellent Luxury Sedan
Great Car - A little dowdy in styling but powerful, reliable and extraordinarily well-built. 9 years on and it still drives like a brand new car.
Simply Fantastic
I purchased this outstanding vehicle nearly a year ago and have enjoyed quiet, trouble free, luxurious motoring ever since. The car is great on long trips up to see mom-a 5 hour drive-not a problem in the Q. Set the cruise control and pack your cd's for the premium Bose stereo and your off! The powertrain of the Q is incredibly smooth, quiet and efficient. I've driven my dad's S-class Mercedes and detect no discernable difference. The Q actually handles very well for a large sedan also. The best part of the deal was the price-I purchased my black 97' in pristine condition for 9500$! Unfortunately, I wasted money on the 4- year extended warranty-not necessary, but I was terrified after owning a caddy sts.
Great touring car
We use this car for daily commute & for cross country. We have put 55K in 2.5 years and it is at 92K as of now. Just follow regular oil services like flushes etc. and the car will run 200k+ no probs. We drove 18 hours at a stretch on this car but we weren't tired. So comfortable, smooth and quiet with lots of power. A very very good used luxury car.

Good looking and Reliable
I love the looks of this car. I looks good from every angle. Almost trouble free. I think I'll keep it for a long time before I get another car because the combination of look, uniqueness, quietness, smoothness, and reliability won't make me bore of it any time soon.
This car is not a lemon, its a grapefruit
I purchased a q45 with 88k . .I have some costly repairs.which include a power steering pump, rack and pinion, ac compressor, right from spring that cracked, radio will not turn off (kills battery) crank position sensor changed. knock sensor code. Put in shop came back one cylinder not firing I don't know why. I have had it. I got an offer from "buy any car" for $250.00 I have decided to keep it and wait until it doesn't have to pass e-check and drive it with the engine miss.. .
Outstanding car
Nothing but good review about the Q45. Mine has 160,000 miles now and it still performs like new. The engine still smooth and quiet. I put a set of springs and wide 18" rims/tires and it handles like a sport car. Still LOVE it after 3 years. Maybe even more.
