Great Car
I have 1,000 miles on mine and it is fun to drive. Averaging 35 mpg. If you want speed don't buy the car, wait for the turbo. Otherwise, it handles great, lots of amenities, looks awesome, and lot of room for a small car. I went from an Acura TL to the Veloster. Miss the TL's hp but love everything else about the Veloster.
The Veloster is my favorite car yet...and I've had 20!
I traded my 2011 Fiesta with Dual Clutch Powershift for a Veloster with Dual Clutch EcoShift. The Fiesta was very clunky at low speed and my commute is a lot of crawling at less than 5mph. However I really like the idea of a Dual Clutch so I tested the Veloster and I can tell you the difference is astounding! The Veloster Dual Clutch Transmission is smooth, quiet and seamless...even smoother than many conventional Torque Converter transmissions I've driven. A lot of folks talk about the Veloster being slow...well that's a subjective opinion. It's certainly quicker than the Fiesta and while it's no sports-car it certainly gets up to highway speed quickly and without drama in my opinion.

More than I expected
I just bought my veloster 3 weeks ago. Unlike most people who have reviewed the car, I was looking for the baaase model. Which ended up being more difficult than expected. The reason for me wanting the base model was because of a tight budget, and knowing that the base model has more features than some mid level to higher end models of other "cheap" new vehicles. It drives great. It is sporty. It's not fast. But it also doesn't leave anything to be desired if you're commuting in it. It goes up hills and passes on the freeway just fine.
Buyer Beware
My husband bought the Veloster in 2012. He needed a car that had good gas mileage but with a somewhat sporty look. To give you an idea, next month will be a year and it already has 25k miles on it. Long story short within one week the car died, antifreeze everywhere, and they had to replace the gasket. It started shaking real bad and Hyundai did not want to let us trade it in. We went the BBB route and did not win. Took it in recently for FOUR recalls..the sunroof is known to shatter at high way speeds, the rear calibers had to be replaced and were a safety issue, the mileage was misadvertised and now we get a refund check for mileage every so often Buyer Beware. Run as fast as you can.
MY FAVORITE WORK OF ART
During my new car search, I read many reviews/articles comparing the most efficient gas sippers. The Veloster was not mentioned. Why? Perhaps the Veloster is so beautiful and fun that it seems more natural to compare it to sports cars. But the Veloster is not a sports car; it is the coolest economy car you can buy! The Veloster offers generous features and quality for your money. However, it is the car's sexy and innovative design that sets it apart. The Veloster is BEAUTIFUL! Strangers frequently approach me with compliments about my car's appearance, wanting to know more about it. I enjoy looking at my car as much as driving it. Like a work of art, the Veloster lifts my spirit.
