A pleasant surprise.
The test drive on the ‘23 Tucson Hybrid Blue Impressed me. I’d been driving a ‘15 Toyota Venza, a super reliable gas guzzling SUV that had a clunky ride and handling. In contrast, the Tucson Hybrid was much quicker, handled and rode like a higher end sedan and despite having smaller exterior dimensions, had as much interior space for seating and cargo. We bought the car and after admittedly only 7K miles, the less expensive Blue more than lived up to the promise of the test drive. Impressive throttle response and a smooth, quiet road vehicle. We get 35-38mpg on the highway so long as we hold our speed around 70mph. We do a bit better than that in the city running errands. No problems at all. Two minor negatives. I am not fond of the button-controls for shifting (though I’m used to it by now) and the car came with no spare tires. I managed to get the donut spare that the non-hybrid Tucsons come with on EBay (the wheels are the same size so it works). I haven’t needed it yet, but I’d advise anyone who buys a vehicle that comes with no spare tire to do what’s necessary to get one.
