Great little SUV
I traded in a 1999 Pathfinder for this used 2005 Tucson. So far it does most of what I expected it to do. I did loose some cargo and tow capacity with the trade, but the extra MPG makes up for it. It could have more road handling. You don't want to push it too hard into the corners. The stock stereo had to go. I couldn't hear it on the freeway if all the windows were down. The tie downs in the back could be a bit stronger or moved off of the cover.
I like it....
I just got my Tucson and i love it! I do agree with everyone about the get up and go on it. It could be better. Other then that it is perfect for me. I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee before this and i am happy about my new choice.

Best Compact SUV
Excellent compact SUV. More room than a RAV4. More features than any of the other compact SUV's. Easier to drive on the road than a Jeep Liberty. Off road capabilities? Don't know and don't care since I stick to paved roads. Love it and am still very happy with the purchase four months later.
Buy this SUV
This SUV is great. Good gas mileage, rides like a very expensive car, awesome 6 cd stereo, heated leather seats my wive loves, plenty of head room, six air bags, stability control, abs brakes. This SUV has it all for only $ 20,000. I truly recomend this SUV
Definitely a nice looking SUV
I have had my Tucson for about 2 months now. I have no major complaints but also on the other hand no major excitements. It is my first new car purchase and I was impressed with the warrranty and safety features. I do love the way it looks though. I just recently go my two front windows tinted to match the privacy glass in the rear of the vehicle and now it looks absolutely stunning.
Neat SUV
We've only had the Tucson for a few weeks but really like the way it drives. The interior is roomy enough and the seats are comfortable. Mileage is decent in comparison to larger vehicles. Recommend it to others!
Tucson is a Star
I love my new Tucson for so many reasons, but I don't have time to list them all! 1. Price 2. Excellent warranty from Hyundai Motors. 3. Comfort 4. Style and color (mine is a light aqua). 5. If it were a new Mustang which is what I was looking at before this, I would have had to worry about it constantly (dings in the parking lot, for instance), but since it's not a Mustang, I'm not as worried. Just for going to work and shopping, it's perfect!
Great vehicle for the price !
Being a "Toyota Family" for the most part, I decided to go test drive other SUV's and compare some of what the market now has to offer. I was impressed with a few, (the CRV, the RAV-4, and Highlander) but most rides were let downs to my expectations. I have to be honest and say I was pessimistic stopping in at Hyundai to test drive the Tuscon. I took a look at the standard equipment on the vehicle and was shocked to see side curtain airbags as standard equipment. Then after taking it for a test drive and discovering that although the power was not great for the 4 cylinder, it was okay. It must have been. I went home that night and did my calcuations and found that Hyundai was best for my wallet.
Loyal Hyundai owner and sales rep.
My family and I have owned Hyundai for years and will continue to do so because of hyundai's reliability and quality. The Tucson just sells its self do to the standard features you normally would expect from a vehicle several thousand dollars more.
Excellent
This is my first new car, and I love it. I started looking at the Santa Fe, but then I saw the Tuscon and I loved it. It drives smooth, great on gas and is a pleasure to own. If you are looking for a compact SUV this is it!
AWESOME!
I absolutely ADORE my Tucson! I bought it in Dec 04, and I'm still infatuated with it. When I bought my Elantra the "honeymoon phase" lasted about a month. Hyundai improved their quality and performance by leaps and bounds between 98 (my elantra) and 04 (my Tucson). I've actually been stopped by several people (at the gas station or parking lot) who were really impressed with it-and shocked to learn it's a Hyundai.
No longer a Ford person!
After 22 Fords in last 30 yrs - first non-American car. I love it - take it out for no reason. Just love the way it drives!
Great Deal
I love to drive, so I was picky about the pick up power and handling. I love the shiftronic transmission. I like the looks. Plenty of room for family or friends, and all your stuff. But why I decided on this over others in its class was the fact that the Tucson had all the amenities of the other vehicles, at a better price, with a better warranty. What more could I ask for?
Fun and Flexible
I have had my Tucson for about 2 months now, almost 2,000 miles into it I have no complaints. It is well put together, handles very well and is both fun to drive and flexible in carrying items. The second row lays down quick and flat, not having to fool with the head rests is a plus. I do wish it had a 5 speed auto instead of the 4 and I would like a bit more horsepower, but then again, with gas at $3+ a gallon, maybe not. It is certainly agile enough, I pass easily on the interstate and I enjoy the sound system (I have the LX). Overall when people first hear I got a Hyundai, you see surprise on their face, and you see it again when they see it and especially when the get in it. VALUE+
Fun Ride
Very nice Vehicle.Rides well, looks good and I am very happy with it. Also dealership seems very responsive.
Wow! Way to go Hyundai!
We purchased our new Tucson on 4/10/05. And all I can say is WOW! This tiny vehicle is big on the inside, and small on price. We traded in our 2003 Elantra GLS GT and we are completely satisfied. I was already used to good pick-up and power from having the GT,but I didn't think they could do better. We live in the Mts. of PA and the Elantra never really handle the inclines that well, but the Tucson rips up the road without a problem. Previous reviews about the Tucson that said the gas mileage was not good, but I disagree. Gas mileage is comparable with everyone else. At today's gas prices all gas mileage seems bad. We've had it for 4 days now, and put on 800 miles. I love this car.
2005 Hyundai--My First SUV
The Tucson handles well and has a very short turning radius, which comes in handy in parking lots. It also will fit into those compact car spaces. It accelerates very well and gets up to highway speed quickly. I hae the 4 cylinder, smallest available, front wheel drive, 5 speed manual transmission. I'm averaging between 26 and 30 mpg, combined highway/city. This will probably be the last new car I buy and this is the 3rd Hyundai that I've owned and have absolutely no complaints about the product or the service I've received from the dealership. They will and do go the extra mile.
Exciting Vehicle!!
This vehicle is fun to drive. Although you're high above the ground it feels like you're driving a car. Nice design and cheaper than all its competitors...more for the buck!!
Hyundai is here to stay
This is a great little SUV. So roomy and comfortable seating too. The warranty is unbeatable and proves that Hyundai is confident in its product. The standard ammenities that it comes with just surpass all others (cd, 8 airbags, heated mirrors, back defroster) just to name a few. The gas mileage is average for an SUV. Not great, but then again your not driving a compact 4 cyl car either. The dealership I dealt with was wonderful- not pushy or high- pressure. I foresee many Hyundai's in my future. Actually have my sights on the new 06 Accent.
Ho Hum Hyundai
My wifes 2000 Accent got wrecked. It was a good car and she'd been asking for an SUV. Because of the reliabilty, service, functionality and fuel economy we had with the Accent we bought a Tucson. We went with the 4cyl because of fuel economy. Hyundai says this engine gets 27mph on the highway. Don't believe it. In a 5000 mile round trip from Florida to California we averaged 20mph at 70mph using the cruise control. My pick-up gets bet mileage that that. The service department overfilled the oil as if it were the 2.7 V6 and then scarred up the dash when the CD player had to be replaced. They also broke off the rear window whiper. Its mount is made of cheap pig- metal.
build quality
over all the vehicle is find except to much road noise coming into the vehicle. the car rides nice and makes me less tired when driving long distances. if the vehicle had more less noise coming for out side i can hear the radio more better than to have to turn it up more than like to. but over all the vehicle is great to drive.
Still Happy After 4+ Years
The 2.0L GL is my wife's daily driver for the past 4+ yrs. Other than regular maintenance, no major issues. We've put 85,000km on the car, incl. a couple of big road trips to the east coast. Gas mileage? 20/25 city/hwy is respectable for this class. For the price? This car has turned out to be great value.
Great Little SUV
Overall love the car, love the 6 year bumper to bumper, though don't think we will need it. Great pick up..a real surprise. We looked at a lot of small SUV's. This was the one for us.
My Tucson
I have been followng this car since it was intorduced ant the 2004 Auto Show. I knew all that was to know about the car before it hit the dealership. When it finally arrived I was at their door. Bought the car on the spot. I love it and would recommend it to anyone. By the way......I also own a Santa Fe. Two fantastic cars.
GREAT VEHICLE!
I knew this was the vehicle for me as soon as I sat in it. I have only had it for a week, but I couldn't be more satisfied. The vehicle is loaded, great sound system, the ride is smooth even at high speed. Spacious, comfortable, best of all affordable.
2005 TUSCON LX
I was tired of taking my old SUV in repeatedly for the same problems. When I test drove the Tuscon, I was thoroughly convinced. With the V6 it has pep and the electronic stability control has it gripping the road securely and maneuvering like a much smaller vehicle. It's fun to get in it and just drive. It also came with standard ABS brakes and 10 airbags adn a super warranty. Being a sports Mom, it has the room to carry the bat bag, Mom's chair, a cooler and still enough room to carpool 3 teenagers to the game. The controls are well located and easy to see and operate. Love the chunky look of it too! While I've only had it a short while, I am enjoying it immensely.
Now we have 2
I got my Tucson after months of shopping and comparing. It is a pleasure to drive after my previous Toyota. I could tell by the look in his eyes the first time he drove it, he was in love so that when his car was totaled 2 weeks later. He went and got one. Now we have a blue and a red Tuscon.
Nice Little SUV
We really like our Tuscon. Good styling. Fun to drive. Only thing I would like to see improved is more quality and detail on the interior. There is too much plastic. We like the standard features which are extra on other vehicles.
Florida trip
We purchased and drove our Tuson 1400 miles before we drove from Des Moines to Tampa. Driving to Tampa at an average speed of 65 to 70mph we got anywhere from 22 to 24 mpg, I hope to get at least 26 as it gets broke in. We are extremely pleased with the amount of interior space and with the quiality of the workmanship. The six cyl seems to have all the power we will need, I don't believe the engine is as quiet as a Highlander but then look at the difference in price and the warranty.
Driver Comfort
I looked at the entire SUV market with the main goal being driver comfort. I suffer from low back pain daily and the Tucson seat was perfect. The added ease of controls complimented the seat. The vehicle handles great, is easy and fun to drive. The warranty cannot be ignored, and the dealership was very helpful. This has been my best purchase of a vehicle in 20 yrs.
Best Compact SUV
The Tucson is the best compact SUV I've driven, and I tested the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and the Jeep Liberty. While not a sports car by any means, there is adequate power with the GLS 2.7 engine. I'm getting about 20mpg on mixed highway/city driving...not to bad for the first couple of tank fulls! Cargo room with back seats up is adequate. I think Hyundai has a real winner with this car.
Makeup in the dark?
What I really miss is lighted vanity mirrors. Also, I was told that my vehicle had a better cabin filtration system than my 2002 Honda Accord (which had a Hepa filter). When I started sneezing and detecting a strage smell, inside my Tucson, I had my husband check the filter.....SURPRISE...The slot was there, behind the glovebox, but there was no filter! The dealer ordered one for me and then tried to charge me $90.00 to install it. The gas milage is also not good. This baby is cute but rather expensive to maintain.
My second HYUNDAI
after 2,000 miles no comlaints. petrol consumption high..good value compared to rivals.
An awesome, awesome vehicle!
I no complaints about the Tuscon. It is comfortable, very smooth ride, and the V6 performs very well. I bought this SUV because of the excellent 10 year warranty, the 5 year roadside assistance, the sporty styling, dual exhuast and it's "bowed up" stance. It looks like it is ready to rumble! My wife loves the car as well. The engine compartment is extremely simple with all of the fluid dipsticks color coded and easy to check. There are so many standard features available. Other manufacturers charge for what's standard on this vehicle. So far, I am very, very happy with this Suv!
Disappointed
Purchased the vehicle two months ago and have put on 10K miles. We are disappointed greatly in the advertised mpg, should avg 26, we currently get under 20 100% highway which is a decrease from mpg at 5K. We also recently test drove a 4 cyl Mazda 3 and found that it had more pick up and smoother transmission than the Tucson. For others comparing SUVs to this vehicle, you may prefer this to a larger SUV, but overall I am disappointed in the engine performance and handling. Does have some nice interior features and shorter length is good for parking in crowded lots. Based on other feedback and reviews, I believe there is an inconsistency in the manufacturing of this vehicle.
good product, bad performance
would be a great product if they could get a larger 4 cylinder, and a little bit more comfortable seats.
My New 2006 Tucson
Just bought a new 2006 Tucscon, Alpine Frost. Love it! Other drivers stare at my cute new car. Drove my baby grandson, daughter & son-in-law up to visit my elder daughter & family in the Tri-Cities area two days after I bought it. The Tucson drove great! I am very impressed with its stability around curves and the way it holds the road. Very comfortable drive. I haven't had a brand-new vehicle since I bought a new 4-dr Datsun in 1965.. This little Hyundai is so sturdy and so well made, I know I'm going to love it the more I drive it. I'm retiring this December and look forward to traveling between grand-kids... even in the winter! I just don't think you can go wrong with this car.
tucson
Style and features are excelent comfort is good but gas milage for the 6 cylinder is about 18 mph
Great SUV
Overall I love this vehicle. Have not been able to get the gas mileage promised. I have averaged 21 mph on hwy. (V6 engine) (although I do have a lead foot) But much better than my Durango I traded. I have been very happy with my vehicle so far.
A step up!!!
I am a fairly young drive, 25 yr old female w/ no kids:) i bought this car bc i was looking2step up from a car..my previous car(the 1st car i ever bought,&brand new at that)a 2000 dodge neon was turning into a heap of junk.i would never recommend Dodge2anyone, esp the dealer in countryside,IL.i got rid of that car when it was slightly less than 5y/o&had a broken sun roof, bad belts, brakes were going again, radiator probelms, the list goes on.this Tuscan is a dream,i love the V6, good kick 4 expressway driving, i just love it.the dealership was very friendly!!I get about 18 or19 mi2the Gal in city.better on exprsway, i am a big city driver since i make a lot of home visits4my job.
Lot of Fetures for the Price
Since this is my first experience owning an SUV I wanted to be sure I chose the right one. After doing alot of research, I have to admit I am thrilled with my Tucson GLS. It has many standard features that everyone wants in a car. Most importantly the EBS(helps eliminate rollovers) and the side airbags.
Love It!!!
I would not buy anything but a hyundai! Both my wife and myself own Hyundais. For the money and the 10 year 100,000 miles you cant beat it!!!!
Can't Believe I Bought a Hyundai
Took delivery July 1 and already have 7500 miles. Was a little nervous about buying a Hyundai and for several weeks I was too embarrassed to admit I owned one. Then I realized. This is a great vehicle! Gas mileage is averaging 18- 20 and I do a lot of highway stop and go. Car is tight, no rattles. Engine has good pickup with a nice roar. 6 Disc CD doesn't put out enough volume but will have the dealer check it when I go in. Some luxury touches are missing like auto up and down windows, auto open sunroof, auto dimming rear view mirror, but hell it's a Hyundai not a Lexus. Car does have a huge blind spot so you can't just rely on mirrors. All in all a great vehicle and I do highly recommend it.
Excellent
Terrific SUV! Great handling, very comfortable to drive, and looks good to boot. Gas mileage is good. I took it on a vacation and was very comfortable in it as was my 7 year old son.
My Hburg Tucson
We spent apporximately 2 month researching the purchase of a small SUV and everything kept pointing to the Hyundai Tucson. Purchase was based on price, appearance, and most of all safety. We compared this to the Subaru, Ford Escape, Mercury Mariner and several other types and ended up purchasing the Tucson, GLS V6 4X4. We love our Tucson and the way it handles and the comfort.
Tuscon is a good buy
The Tuscon is a well designed SUV. Good safety features such as Electronic Stability, and Air Bags all around. In 2 wheel mode power will transfer to the rear if the front tires slip. A button puts the car in full time 4 whl drive. The car calls for regular gas however I find that it is more peppy with premium. Handles great on and off the highway. Handles great at high speeds; road noise low. Rear seats fold flat along with the front passenger seat. Can handle an 8 ft piece of lumber with the seats down. Excellent sound system. Only negative thing to say is gas mileage. I get 14 to 15 locally and 20 on the highway. The more heavy footed you are the worse your mileage will be.
My Baby!!!
I bought my Tucson on April'04, since then, I've put 6K miles on it with no problems. After reviewing SUV's for months, I was undecided between the Equinox, the VUE and Tucson; fortunately, I think I chose right! Even though I haven't had the opportunity to test the 4WD, it seems to be a very solid vehicle with nothing less that good safety features. The vehicle has a decent gas mileage, but the engine could be more powerful; may be they can design a 3.X one able to jump over the 210HP.
My new Tucson
Overall, I am very pleased with the Tucson. This is the 4th Hyundai I have purchased new. I like the interior and exterior styling. The sound system is above average.
A nice SUV
It's Big on cargo area (bigger than the Santa Fe). I've driven this Tucson to Scottsdale, Az., Las Vegas, Nv. (twice), Big Bear, Ca., and had no problems at all! It's a wonderful vehicle for the two of us but it can haul kids too! I've done routine maintenance like changed the oil and had my auto mechanic check it out... there are no problems with it. We're pushing 12,000 miles already and bought it in May 2005. There are only two things I would change or make better... #1: Make the Hood a little more aggressive looking and ... #2: put in an extra gear when it is downshifting from overdrive. The next gear down is too low and makes the engine rev too high.
First Glance
What's this poor gas mileage? Got 26.3 mpg on the first trip of 320 miles! Sound system is great - cruise control is tight and the ride is solid. It's just fun to drive and I've been doing that for over 45 years. What used to be extras are included - heated outside mirrors, fog lights...and what a warranty that includes roadside assistance. Seems impossible to beat or even come close!
