Used 2015 Hyundai Sonata Sedan Consumer Reviews
Driving Pearl Baby
We have had this car a little over a year now. We bought a loaded, every bell and whistle available except the 2.0T engine. We purchased certified pre-owned in pearl white metallic. The car was sitting on the lot with a couple other Limited CPOs that were the same price but either ugly color or lacking all the extras. I have not had one day of troubles with this car. We went from an Elantra GT to this for the extra luxury. The visibility is way better, the ride smoother and we love all the extras that were not available to us in previous cars. The large gas tank allows for long highway trips, and we have taken a few now. The acceleration isn't screaming, but it is good enough to get up to highway speeds with no problems at all. My only complaint is about the gas mileage. I'm barely able to get 22-23 mpg around town. Could it be long red lights? Anyway, we love our Pearl Baby and hope to own it for a long time. 8/8/2019 update. Have now taken a couple of more road trips and Pearl Baby is still driving beautifully. To get extra acceleration I have put it in "Sport" mode on many occasions. The fit and finish is still one of the best ever. No squeaks, rattles or other weird noises. The cooled/ventilated seats have been wonderful if the car has been sitting out in the sun. 2/08/2020 update. Now after 2+ years, still loving Pearl Baby. The only complaint is the drive mode selector when turning on the car is supposed to be "Normal" but intermittently starts out in "Eco" instead. Not a problem, but a minor annoyance. I would love to use the panoramic sunroof more, but the glare washes out the dashboard. So we only use when the sun is low or at night when warm enough. With this being our second Hyundai, we are sold on the quality, ride and value. Will definitely consider as my #1 pick for any future vehicles.

very good car
i returned my 2013 sonata from lease and got another one. 15 sonata is little bigger and more comfortable and better mpg. one thing i did not like about 13 was all the blind sights but they fixed on 15. i have 10 thousand miles on it already and and this one is giving me 540miles per a full tank of gas and not as sporty as 13 but it is ok.

Very good spacious sedan
I bought my Sonata with 37000 miles and it is currently at 100000 miles. The Sonata offers one of the best interior spaces compared to other comparable sedans. I would rank it next to the Camry and Accord for reliability. The car drives well and does everything you would need from a sedan. The first complaint I have is that the transmission started to have a hard 3-2 downshift around 47000 miles. Hyundai changed the whole automatic transmission under warranty at no cost. The next downside that can be avoided with proper maintenance is the carboning up of intake valves. I run a carbon cleaner through the PCV valve every year and I have no check engine lights or performance issues. I also change my oil with full synthetic Castrol oil and run a fuel cleaner every 5000 miles. The car burns about half a quart of oil every 2500 miles currently which I top off. I also change the cabin and engine air filters every 12000 miles. There is an issue with the stop lights burning very frequently. I would recommend doing an LED conversion. The car is still 99% capable of doing what it did when it was new.

Troublesome
I am aware that many praise this car, but many don't tell the issues. Of course you already know about the engine problems. But there are actually more problems. There are also VCM problems, oil consumption problems, and more importantly the 2015-2016 cars had a faulty oil plug at the CVVT system which will damage the CVVT sensor which in turn will damage the timing chain. Hyundai is quoting between $1500 and up to $4000 repairs depending on the damage, and it usually happens out of warranty. Other problems, my hood struts failed after 5 years, the leather seats are hard on long drives, the panoramic sunroof has poor tint to block the sun heat and also the shade must be fully opened to open the glass even just a little : basically you will bake in the sun if you want to crack the glass open. There is limited headroom for 6ft drivers. The 17 inch low profile wheels are very harsh and you cannot install 16 inch wheels because the brakes are too big. The 17 inch Solus tires also become very noise early in life. The radar units are very sensitive to calibration error and extremely expensive to replace. The parking sensors have fragile brackets and cost $400/unit. Poor resale value. As you can see, Hyundai has still a rather long way to go. I would recommend going for the base model with 16 inch wheels.
Long term review (1year/14000 miles on vehicle)
We've owned this car and I wrote an initial review after looking at a mazda 3 and 6, ford taurus and a Genesis Sedan. After having this vehicle for over a year and being able to drive it daily and learn it's functions I can really say this car is a solid buy. Living in a freezer 7-8 months out of the year this thing has really performed with only very minor gripes about it and they really boil down to the way my kids treat this vehicle. EVERY function of the car still works with no broken knobs or funny noises and the car is still in "one piece". There is the normal wear and tear that any interior has but it's dealt with my family very well, with all aspects being able to hold up and stay clean. My 3 girls have a problem with keeping their feet off everything and as a result I have to constantly wipe down the interior and clean scuffs off the outside but these are things that life throws at you. Other than having the car serviced at regular intervals nothing mechanically has broken in the car to to have it repair and the dealer has always been courteous to us upon receiving the vehicle and we'll more than likely go through them when our lease is up to look into another vehicle. Gas mileage is still the same as when we bought it, with 27ish mpg's combined driving and premium fuel every time we fill. I have noticed the tires starting to split on the sidewall and will have this remedied through our dealer as it's covered under warranty. Overall if you're looking for a solid vehicle (even used) I'd look at one of these. Fully loaded you won't be disappointed as there are only a small number of models that supersede the Sonata within the brand.
