I have been through a few new SUVs over the past year trying to find that one that fits me best. It seems that many manufacturers are having trouble getting their new 8-speed transmissions shifting smoothly and predictably. The 2019 Santa Fe XL uses a tried-and-true 6-speed with a torque converter that doesn't lock as soon as the vehicle moves (it does lockup at highway speeds, which is appropriate). The shifts in the Santa Fe XL are barely perceptible, unlike all of the other new vehicles I have driven over the past year. It also doesn't have the gimmicky auto engine start/stop feature that manufacturers have installed for gaming the EPA fuel economy test course. Make no mistake this "feature" does not save most customers money on fuel, but makes the car company's CAFE numbers higher which was the main goal. Also, it will put greater wear and tear on the engine, starting system and battery. Hyundai did an awesome job with the Santa Fe XL. It is a shame 2019 is the last year for the Santa Fe 3-row (it's being replaced by the Palisade).

Traded RAV 4 and love it the way more!

This the car you can get the most for the money! V6 great acceleration engine, interior is like super expensive cars have two tone very practical panels and yet in budget! Acceleration, break, stability-all works great. Were long waiting for new RAV 4 but after 2 test drives made decision that for the price car was way too cheap made with cheap materials and poor performing engine. Love this car! Drove in heavy flooded road at nigh in storm-excellent!. Roomy inside! 2rd and 3rd rows can make huge cargo space when down. Fuel economy is in fact better than declared. In measurements through fixing miles between fueling it was showing not less than 28mpg and this is partly in the city even! Mostly highway trips were behind 29! As already said two tone durable materials interior, comfy seats(of course electrical). great sound system, stability, cargo rails on the roof. adequate position of storage and etc. climate control for all zones, middle console for rear seats, auto lights end etc. Pretty good for the price!

Still like the vehicle and still no issues with it only had it back to the dealer for regular maintenance and have about 29000 miles on it. UPDATE: Nice car 7 passanger AWD V6 almost 300hp great power plenty of room for 7passengers comfortable interior gets 25 to 27 mpg on highway tows up to 5000lbs. Bought new in late 2018 other SUV,s equipped similarly were listed at time for at least 10,000 more than we paid. We have had Hyuundai's since 2006 and never had any major problems with any of them.

Leased our 2019 SANTA FE XL that was a service loaner with just over 4,000 miles on it. It now has 28,000 and is running great with no issues or repairs needed. Nice car to drive which handles, stops and rides great. We also besides around town drives have taken a cross country trip from Colorado to New Jersey and back with no issues and very good gas mileage. Would recommend this car to anyone.

2019 SF XL Ultimate Ltd - Awesome!

The 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe XL is a very comfortable and quiet vehicle. My wife and I are impressed at how quiet it is on the highway with a strong engine for effortless passing or getting up to speed quickly. We have the Ultimate Ltd with all the options available in 2019. All systems work well and the various camera views are quite handy. No complaints, just very satisfied.

Our second Hyundai. Great SUV with an abundance of cargo space with 2nd and 3rd row seating folded down. Peppy engine, transmission needs an extra gear. It bogs down about 1200 rpm. Hyundai continues to cheap out however. The SE should include electronic rear gate and some of its safety features as standard. Are 19" rims too much to ask ? Not paying 3600. for this. Dash still looks like cheap plastic. Fix this, and youll have a contender.

Foot Pedals

Kristi, 04/20/2019
2019 Hyundai Santa Fe XL SE 4dr SUV (3.3L 6cyl 6A)

I love everything about the car with the exception of one major thing. The gas and brake pedals are designed so that the bottom of the pedals are attached to the floor board. This is not something that I would ever consider when purchasing a vehicle. This design causes my right leg to ache and tingle when driving. If you rest your heel on the floor board, the pedals are angled so that you have to tilt your foot up which is unnatural. Instead of being able to push the pedal down, you have to push the pedal forward, again unnatural. There are numerous seat settings and I’ve tried them all hoping to find a setting that would address this issue. Unfortunately, I have yet to find one. I am 5’3” and I’m not sure if it’s because I’m short or if it happens to everyone no matter your height. With this being the case, I HIGHLY recommend that you test drive the vehicle for a long period of time before making your decision. Test drive in traffic so that you have to use the pedals more and can see how they feel. I would have bought this car time and time again however, not anymore. There is nothing worse than driving your car and being in pain and unfortunately, I can’t trade because it’s too new. I hope this review will prevent this from happening to someone else.

Love the car but Hyundai should dump Bluelink.

I have a 2019 Limited 4 cylinder AWD. Love the look. Love the ride. Acceleration fine for me. Safety features are fine. Most everything is intuitive after learning. Windshield wipers are bad. They miss clearing a whole section in the middle of the windshield. Blue link starter app doesn’t always work, bad since they eventually want to charge for this. Cup holders in doors are pretty much worthless. The ones in my 2010 Sante Fe were better. Update I bought new wipers from somewhere other than Hyundai and they work better. I am still upset about the app with the automatic start not working it was high on my list of needs. I went the whole first year with it not working 50% of the time. Then a tech talked me through reconnecting my phone and it worked better for a while now I’m back to intermittent success and failure. This is why I lowered my rating to 3 stars. I still love everything else as I said before. Review update 2022. I still have a love hate relationship with Hyundai. I love the vehicle and have had no problems with it. I was supposed to get three years of the app that starts the car which is with a company called Bluelink. I believe that Hyundai contracts with them to run the service. As I said in my original review the remote start did not work was unreliable for the first two years. They did fix it by the third year but now they want me to pay $20 a month for the service. All I want is to be able to start my car in the winter as I live in the north country. Bluelink requires that you pay for all of the services in order to get the remote start. For a senior citizen on a fixed income it’s too expensive. The Hyundai Santa Fe I purchased is a great vehicle for someone who has enough money to pay for the Bluelink service. But I will not be able to buy another Hyundai if they don’t offer a start option on the key fob. I’ll pay for it upfront but I can’t afford to pay $20 a month. Five stars for the vehicle 0 stars for Bluelink. 2023 update. I dumped bluelink they finally got it working but refused to give enough credit for the two years that it didn’t work. I had a key fob remote pu on by a Hyundai approved technician. It works great. Now my only complaint there is no heated steering wheel and the heated seats don’t go on with the remote start. The seat belt is set back too far it’s hard to get it on. I’m older and it’s hard to reach. THERE ARE NO MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE SO FAR. l still love the car. I raise the review to 5 stars because without the bluelink othe issues I mentioned are relatively minor. Update 2024 over 100,000 and still love the car, great gas mileage, 30 mpg on trips. Automatic starter I had put in still works great especially in winter months. No major problems with Vehicle.

Bought a 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe XL brand new, with extended warranty. Did not know beforehand GDI engine in Santa Fe had history of failure in their 4 cylinder vehicles. At 130000 miles car just stopped in middle of road. Complete engine failure. Turns out the metal in those GDI engines does not react well with oil. Little shavings come off until engine fails. The 4 cylinder vehicles had a class action lawsuit against that engine and won. Our Santa Fe is a 6 cylinder and not covered by the lawsuit. Hyundai wants 10000 dollard to put a new engine in the car.
