2016 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 4dr Sedan AWD (3.8L 6cyl 8A)

Most comfortable and capable sedan I've ever had. This is the 3.8 AWD model with all options (Ultimate Package). We got the Genesis in late April 2016 and due to several unusual events have put quite a few more miles on it than I expected (8023 miles) . Many have been highway miles with Adult rear seat passengers on long trips in hot weather. That has given me a chance to really get a good feel for it's capability. I love this car, it's extremely quiet and comfortable for all occupants especially on long trips (over 900 miles in one day). The options work together extremely well and driver fatigue is a non-factor. The dual zone AC works very well for the passengers each can control the settings as they wish and the rear air is very effective in hot weather. The driver aids are spot-on, I love the adaptive cruise control, blind spot detection, the automatic and speed sensitive wipers, and we've use the Blue Link quite a bit. The ability to control the driver interface features (Nav, audio and media input) from both the console as well as the touch screen and many features from the steering wheel is very effective, I think it's a Genesis exclusive. Using regular gas and the multi-access driver interface (as well as the price) made the Genesis stand above the Lexus GS for me which was runner up. We've averaged about 24.7 mpg overall to date. I drove just about every vehicle in this class (much to my wife's annoyance) before I selected the Genesis and have absolutely no regrets. No maintenance history to report so far, just coming up to the first oil change. If your in the market for a comfortable large sedan you can't make a better choice than the Genesis.

Nice Car But With Irritating Whining Sound--Update

January 2018 update: I followed through on opening a Lemon Law Case with the Better Business Bureau (BBB Auto Line) and followed all the required procedures to the "T" all the way to and through the arbitration process. Since the case was heard remotely, i.e., the car was out of state at the time of the hearing, the arbitrator could not personally drive the car to evaluate the noise complaint. The BBB Auto Line Representative dispatched an independent expert to my out of state location who drove the car and submitted his report to the arbitrator. The independent expert, who had over 25 years of mechanical experience, heard the whining noise as described in my complaint immediately upon decelerating and even identified the probable cause and location yet the manufacturers traveling engineer and dealers service team could not! Long story short: I won the case and Hyundai had to refund the full purchase price and take the car back as a lemon. It was hard for me to believe Hyundai would rather put a long time loyal customer through this laborious and time consuming process and ultimately have to refund the full purchase price of the vehicle instead of simply replacing the transmission. Perhaps they thought I would just give up and not follow through to conclusion. They picked the wrong guy for that! Here's the clincher: After an extensive test drive of a 2018 Genesis G80, I bought it. Crazy? Time will tell but this one has absolutely NO whining noise at any speed! July 2017 update: The noise persists! After repeated contact with the dealer and Hyundai Customer Care I was finally able to convince them to have their traveling engineer drive the car and assess the noise. After he drove it, he authorized replacement of the differential! Great I thought...until I drove the car after the repair because the noise was still there. I decided to open a case with the Better Business Bureau Auto Line. One of the procedures using the BBB is that I have to send a Motor Vehicle Defect Notification Form by accountable mail direct to Hyundai in California. They, according to the instructions I received, have to contact me within 10 days after receipt of my form to schedule an appointment for a final assessment. They didn't contact me. I notified BBB Auto Line of that and they reopened the case. To make a long story short(er), I and the car are now in Virginia for the Summer, the noise persists to such a point that I want to park it and not drive it. Hyundai is not being very responsive and I'm losing hope that this whole process will come to an end before the warranty expires. Is this a lesson learned? Definitely for me! One of the nicest looking and comfortable cars I've ever owned. However, I have one major concern. When I test drove this car I admit I was distracted by the comfortable ride, all the gadgets and technology and wasn't specifically listening for strange noises. Who would expect to hear any noise while driving the flagship model? My bad! After a couple days of driving the car with the radio on, I took it for a drive one day and for some reason, I didn't turn the radio on. During this trip I heard this strange "whining" sound that appeared to be coming from behind the drivers seat. At the time I first heard it I was decelerating from about 45 MPH. The noise persisted until I reached 35 MPH then is stopped. Thinking I was hearing things, I drove on a smoother road up to about 45 MPH then decelerated. The noise was immediately noticeable again and continued to 35 MPH. OK I thought, this was a very expensive car...the most expensive car I've ever owned and I have a "whining" noise? Seriously? I took it back to the Hyundai dealer who test drove the car and came to the conclusion that the noise was "road noise" and was "normal." This diagnosis was based on the service manager driving another Genesis (same year, make and model) and hearing the same noise in that car as well. You cannot hear the noise if you're in the passenger seat. I thought, wouldn't you hear "road noise" on either side of the car? Not being satisfied with the dealers response I contacted Hyundai Genesis Customer Care. After several phone calls their final decision was the noise was "normal" based upon their reaching out to the dealer who relayed their same car test drive theory. Of course Hyundai Customer Care was not about to go against the dealers diagnosis. While I am impressed with the Genesis, I am disappointed that I paid for what I thought was going to be the best car of my life: quiet, comfortable and full featured and got a car with a very distracting "whining" noise. Over the years, I've owned no less than five Hyundai models (XG-350, Santa Fe, Sonata, Tucson, and now the Genesis. I have never heard a similar noise from any of the previous Hyundai models...until I bought their flagship model. Unfortunately this will be my last Hyundai!

I love my new Genesis!

I test drove several cars before I chose to lease my Genesis. I was looking for a reliable four door sedan that had a great ride, was comfortable (I'm a big guy!) and had all of the latest technology. In addition to the Genesis, the cars that I test drove were the Buick Lacrosse, Audi A6, Lexus GS350 and the Infinity Q50. All of the models had most of the features that I wanted and were in a similar price point. I was surprised at how nice the Lacrosse drove but it lacked the leg room that I desired. The Genesis was the second car that I drove but prior to stopping into the dealership, it wasn't high on my list because....well it was a Hyundai and I didn't know much about the product! I was first taken by the styling of the Genesis and noticed that it was a high-end looking vehicle. After checking out the interior I was impressed by both the comfort of the seating as well as the layout of the instrument panel. When the ignition was turned on, the instrument and touch screen panels blew me away with colors and sound and I have to say, it brought out the inner kid in me! I just couldn't wait to see all of the things that it did! The test drive was also impressive, although the gas pedal was a little stiff, the car handled very well. The car really sold me! Next, I drove the A6 which was high on my list for its styling and reputation. After test driving the car, alhough I felt like it was a high performance vehicle, I just wasn’t as comfortable in it as I was in the Genesis and the instrument panel wasn't as impressive either! Next, I drove the GS350. I felt that the exterior styling wasn't as nice as any of the previous three cars that I drove although the comfort was great, it had the features that I wanted and the interior was well appointed with a wood grain finish. It was a very hot day when I test drove this car and the wood grained stirring wheel was almost too hot to hold on to. I much preferred the leather steering wheels found on each of the other cars I drove! The last car that I test drove was the Q50. It was a cool car but I was just too big for it! During my test drives, I found myself comparing each car to the Genesis and in the end, the Genesis was the right car for me! The sound system is awesome, I love the heads up display as well as the 9” touch screen that is very easy to read and use. Now that I have had the car for a month, I still can’t wait to drive it each day!

Hyundai's Head-Turner!

Hyundai came a long way since their introduction of Genesis model and at some point they must have invested enough efforts to get it to stand out the way it does today. Genesis kept grabbing my attention on the roads in passing. I just couldn't look away trying to recognize and confirm if I was looking at Hyundai or some other super expensive brand. I eventually took the time to drive one and was instantly impressed. I've driven most luxury brands out there, owned an MB S550 and E550, BMW 750Li and 535i, and a Lexus LS430 and 460L, so the last thing I expected is to be captivated by design, feature set, or driving dynamics of a Hyundai. All that said, while not without cons the Genesis really stood out as a complete package in luxury sedan market with significantly lower price tag. I ended up buying a 2016 V6 with Ultimate package and so far I'm super happy with it. I can't comment re. reliability aspect as this is my first Hyundai and I only owned it for about 3 weeks and 800 miles now. I test drove the V8 as well and while its performance is very impressive I wasn't ready to sacrifice the MPG given that the V6, while won't leave you breathless, has plenty of power. Since for 2016 Hyundai also changed the Genesis emblem on the back (optional dealer installed feature for 2015) I have people approaching me on the daily asking what the make and model of this beauty is, confusing it with other badges :). So here goes the summary: Pros: Quiet and well handled ride. Very little road noise and nicely hushed wind noise. Very nicely controlled steering. Very well equipped with Signature Tech OR Ultimate packages with lane assist, HUD, adaptive cruise, and auto hold features that actually respond in a smooth and controlled manner unlike some other brands out there. Window shades on rear and side glass is a nice add-on. Very nice sounding stereo. Nicely laid out instrumentation and controls and very easy to use intuitive software (dash and main screens). VERY comfortable heated and cooled seats that adjust every way possible. Impressive fuel economy for a 311hp V6. I average 20-22mpg in mixed driving so far, and I'm on 'Normal' driving mode, which could improve with 'Eco'. Roomy Cabin with plenty of leg / head room even for taller individuals beyond 6'. Very cool looking and functional pano roof. Cons: Remote start available ONLY through Bluelink subscription is just dumb! Can't phrase it any other way, sorry. The feature should've been included on keyfob independent of any additional subscriptions as every mainstream (not luxury) vehicle offers it at this point. Side mirrors are mounted pretty high up and can block visibility into turns. It would be nice if the HUD could auto adjust its brightness for day/night operation. It's adjustable but not variable for day/night operation so I have to constantly adjust it. I'm not sure why some driving and comfort settings can't be saved, like cruise control distance or seat heating / cooling, which have to be setup from scratch after every engine restart. (I'm pretty sure the cruise control issue is resolved in later models software, which brings me to my next and biggest gripe...) !!! - Still No software updates for 2016 model with Ultimate package (9" Navi screen). As admitted by dealer and confirmed by manufacturer on multiple occasions now, the model in question was part of limited distribution during Hyundai -> Genesis brand transition, and as such, there was no further software released post rollout. What that means is that while there are $15K Elantras out there with Apple car play and other cool features, I still can't get any of that on my $50K+ Genesis :( - very disconcerting to say the least. That's about it for gripes!

Kudo's to Genesis!

David, 06/26/2016

I'm an admitted caraholic, having owned 6 cars in the last 7 years. The last car I owned was the 2012 Genesis 3.8 Sedan (a great looking car indeed, although not as refined as the new generation) and traded that in for a 2016 Genesis on a 36 month lease (mainly to keep me from changing cars every year). I literally did not even test drive the 2016 Genesis before I got it, but I did my research and I am 100% SATISFIED so far. I may even keep this one after the 3 year lease is up. It's that good! I got the black/black 3.8 V6 Ultimate package (that's fully loaded). Lease came in just over $500/month. I had the dealer re-badge the trunk with the Genesis "wing" emblem. Looks extremely sharp in my opinion. I'm also all about luxury and comfort and this is one area the Genesis excels in. The first time you sit in the contoured, leather seats, you're cradled by a multitude of support and comfort. Being tall, the leg extender gives me that extra few inches of support while driving that makes commuting much more enjoyable. I also love how the seat side bolsters contour to your exact preference. The controls and nav screen are all within reaching distance and easy to navigate (it's not too complicated but gets the job done). The trim and finish are spot on with Lexus and other luxury brands. The real wood is a beautiful touch. The driving experience is very quiet and you basically feel like you're driving on a cloud, easily gliding over most road bumps with little awareness of them being there. All in all the comfort factor in this car is top notch and makes commuting to work more enjoyable. I drive on ECO mode mostly and the gas mileage has been around 22MPG combined. The tech in this car is all you could ever want. I think the heads up display is spot on and of course the digital display on the drivers console is well illuminated and love the features and colors it offers. I use the cruise control quite a lot on commutes and LOVE the full stop/start up feature of cruise control. Basically this car has all of the key amenities I could ever want. I also have the BlueLink enabled, however I'm not 100% sold on it as I don't find myself using it all that much. The overall design of the car I think is uniquely Genesis and elegantly done. All in all if you're in the market for a luxury car you'll appreciate the features, sophistication and certainly the value that Genesis brings to the table.

I sold my supercharged Audi A6 to buy this Genesis. While I think the car has plenty power for daily driving, I feel like this car really should have a turbo or supercharger for more low end torque like the Audi. I know it would add more cost, but at least make it an available engine choice. Thats the only thing I can really think of as a "con" for me. The rest of the car is amazing. Quiet, smooth, comfortable, and very attractive. I also like that the interior room it affords a family of four, much more than the German rivals. IMO, this car is the perfect blend between Audi, BMW and Lexus. It looks European, but its quiet and smooth like a Lexus. So far I am thrilled will the purchase, first time in a long time that I don't have buyers remorse:)

Watch out for Hyundia!

If you like Hyundia cars, beware of their practice of not pointing out how some of the features work. If you want remote start, understand that the only way to get it is through their 'Bluelink System". When you buy the car they give you 90 days of Bluelink for free. After that it cost over $300.00 a year to keep all of the functions active. There is the basic Bluelink connection, which reports on car status and tells Hyundia if the car is in an accident. Next there is your remote start capabilities and a couple of other functions you can do. Last there is the voice active navigation system. If you want the remote capabilities you pay $99.00 plus tax per year and if you want it to work then you have to pay another $99.00 plus tax per year for the basic package. The turn by turn voice activated navigation adds another $81.00 plus tax per year. I bought my Genesis in October and in November I was notified that there is an update to the on-board navigation system for $219.00 plus tax. I highly recommend that you read all of the fine print before you purchase any Hyundia.

I've had over 30 cars since 1965, many brands, many models. In 1990, I test drove the Infinity Q45, I was so impressed with the Q45, I traded in my 1988 Cadillac Seville. Unfortunately 1990 was first and last year Infinity made that model with that horsepower. I have leased numerous cars since then, and have never enjoyed a car as much as that Q45, until I test drove the 2016 Hyundai Genenis Sedan. This Hyundai Genenis surpassed the Q45 I truly enjoyed, and delivers fuel economy that is unbelievable, and it runs on regular gas! The 500 series BMW is close to the comfort level of my Genenis, but for $20,000 more, its no contest. Hyundai is the definite winner in every category.

AWD Genesis Ultimate

I am a third time Hyundai owner (2012 Genesis 4.6, 2014 Equus Ultimate) and now 2016 AWD Genesis Ultimate. First Genesis was great, no issues, put 80k miles on it, Equus had some issues so traded in for the Genesis Ultimate. Bought white with black interior, windows tinted, car really looks hot. For the price after discounts, a compatible BMW 535 was $20k more, Lexus GS350 was $10k more; overall the Genesis has more features and drives similar to the others. Love the fact we may have CarPlay added and all of the toys are top notch. Starting car with the Apple Watch is fun and now you can turn off car as well with the app. Treated by dealership very well and they have always had nice loaners for me. Equus was a lot of fun, kids loved the TVs in back and the reclining sets, but mostly I am on the road for business so I find the drivability of the Genesis much sportier.

Owned a 2011 Sonata before this car. I was really happy with the entire Hyundai experience. The sales people were not overly aggressive, lots of car for the price, reliability has been fantastic... I wanted to "step up" my car game a little so it was not hard for me to try Hyundai again. I absolutely love the design of this Genesis. It's a luxury styled sedan but with some sporty stylings. The interior is fantastic. I am above average in height (6'3) and this interior leaves plenty of room for me. The seat adjustments are great. Most cars in this class are going 100% digital including the gauges but I don't mind the traditional ones here. They look fine and there is a nice LCD screen between them for additional information. The multi media head unit is a nice upgrade from where the Sonata was with a lot of features including Siri and Google. Bluetooth works flawlessly with my phone. The base model was loaded and is a great choice but i bumped it up to the Signature package which includes the panoramic roof which is very nice especially at night. All interior lights are now LEDs. Seats have heating and cooling. EDIT: Recently Hyundai made an upgrade available for Apple CarPlay which was not included when the car was originally purchased. I use Apple products so it was a nice free upgrade to get and was unexpected. It has worked flawlessly with my iPhone and does give me more features than before plus it does offer a lot more handsfree features. I love the little touches and attention to detail such as when you get out of the car at night the Genesis logo shines on the ground on either side of the car in LED lighting. Might sound dumb or pretentious but you know you would like that. As I am still learning all the tech I do have one con. The rearview camera. The quality is ok. Not the sharpest. It does have trajectory lines and even can turn down to look straight at the ground for that extra inch but for some reason there are no front or rear sensors on this model. You have to get the Ultimate package for that which I feel at this price point it should come included. I also agree with one of the other reviewers that it should include remote start (although I don't have much of need personally). Having to subscribe to Bluelink for that just seems like a bad move. Of course driving it is important too. I was surprised by the power of this car. It really does have some kick to it. The Sonata had fairly decent wind noise reduction but this is far superior. You can whisper in the car going 70 and hear a pin drop. Might not be the quietest overall but it is definitely the quietest car I've ever owned. Very smooth ride. It does not drive like a BMW but I like to drive luxury type vehicles in chill mode. Although I feel like it leaves just a few touches out from it's competitors, I feel like they will only get better as they transition into it's own brand and would recommend them to anyone. Hyundai has really made itself a real competitor.

The car is almost perfect. The minor complaint is the ac control should be below the radio control. (Like I said, minor). The comfort, control, acceleration, quite cabin, radio, materials, are everything you could ask for. If you would be willing to pay 15k-20k more for a BMW name plate, consider giving that money to St Jude's Hospital, and enjoy your new Genenis.

This is my first Hyundai ever! I've been driving Mercedes (E-class) for the last 10-years and I cant say enough good things about Genesis. First the value is amazing, I didn't want another $700 lease for 3-more years, so I'm driving a car that has real leather, full power, every option I need (and more), regular gas, cheap oil changes, diamond white paint, panoramic roof, and all of that for $399 a month with $399 (first payment) due at drive-out, didn't even pay sales tax! The new 2017 MB E350 would be at least $800 a month right now. The ride, road noise, and comfort cannot be beat and I'm 6'3". I've had it only 3-weeks so far and my only complaint (which I knew going in) is the car has a vibration when sitting idle or at a stop, I'm told this is normal and due to the fuel pump being mounted on the top of the engine and could get better when engine breaks in. I notice it more when the air conditioner is set to low and the fan on a moderate speed, but I live in Houston so that will be most of the time. I have searched the internet for recalls or forums talking about this issue, but cant find a single mention. I also have to note I drove the 2017 Genesis G80 (exact same car) and it too did the same thing and probably a bit worse so I'm resigned to the fact that's just how they are designed and for $3,600 less a year in payments I'll live with it!

A Bentley done by Koreans

"This is the 31st car I've owned or leased and I ALWAYS do extensive research. My Genesis 3.8 RWD can only be described as "Spectacular". If the Koreans built a Bentley, this would be it. I didn't opt for the V-8 since I've got a Corvette in the garage and don't plan on stop-light drag racing. Other than that my car has every option and is by far the most pleasurable car I've EVER driven. The sound system (also found in Rolls-Royce) is better than any I've ever heard in a car (or at home for that matter). I don't know what options could possibly be desired that aren't present in my car. Black Ash wood is utterly beautiful as is the ivory leather interior. Seats are better than any car I've driven including Volvo (which I would have rated the best previously). In GA we don't really need all wheel drive so mine is RWD. Performance, ride and braking are exceptional. The level of sound from outside is about non-existent. Benz & Lexus could learn from the sound-deadening techniques that were used on this car. The gas mileage is about what I'd expect from a 4100 pound car in town. On the freeway it's approaching 29 MPG. Dealer experience was also excellent - internet price quoted was right on the money with no nasty surprises when I went in to pick up the car. Genesis has hired the leading designers from both Lamborghini and Bentley this year. These guys are VERY serious about conquering the luxury market and the Genesis brand will be a force to be reckoned with both now and in the future."

2016 Genny 3.8 Tech RWD is a price performer

I leased my Genesis 6 weeks ago on a very attractive 36 month/15K mile program. With dealer discount, competitive coupon and $3K lease cash, I was able to knock $7K off the $47K sticker price. Compared with Lexus or the Germans, an incredible value. Most of my research was online and via a major consumer magazine. My main focus in evaluating cars is value for the price, with safety, fuel economy, driving experience and luxury as secondary goals. Though I could afford it, I can't justify Lexus' price premium and don't dig the lack of driving dynamics. I'll never have another European car. So that leaves only a few choices. Coming from Acura, this is a real step up. Very impressive exterior styling, interior comfort, drivetrain, ride, handling and technology. For me, the 3.8 Tech is the sweet spot of price versus goodies. That last $3500 of MSRP for the Ultimate trim level did not make sense to me. My car had a serious fuel system issue at 225 miles that required 3 weeks to diagnose and fix. The dealer provided me with a brand new 2016 Genesis Tech as a loaner. Mine does seem fixed and it is hard to stay mad at this great car. I am glad it's a lease though. If I still love it in 2019, I can buy it for $25.5K plus tax. Pros: --Drop dead gorgeous on the outside --Serene and very lux on the inside --Major oomph in the V6, on regular gas no less --Decent fuel economy, 22 in mixed driving, high 20s pure freeway --Love love love the smart cruise--it starts and stops by itself in heavy traffic --Auto Hold is a cool feature --Autonomous Emergency Braking (see below), blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert --Comfy and very adjustable driver's seat with ventilated leather --Great color flat screen display and pleasing instrument cluster with nice switches on the steering wheel --Composed ride and predictable steering --Real-time traffic on the nav, essential for SoCal driving --Very good (though not great) Lexicon sound system --Big trunk Cons: --Ugly front grille --Autonomous Emergency Braking alerts too late --Horrible voice recognition --Wimpy steering wheel, should be thicker --Confusing controls and odd layout --Hyundai service department--it's not exactly a luxury experience --A new car should not have a fuel line/fuel pump failure at 225 miles! Overall, despite a bumpy start, the Genesis 3.8 RWD Tech sedan is the best and most refined car I've enjoyed in 40 years of driving.

UPDATE 2016 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 (27K miles) - after nearly 6 years with this car it's proven to be a reliable car that seems to keep getting better. It's my wife's daily driver now that I've been through a 018 G90 and just picked up a 2021 G80 3.5T Prestige. Genesis reminds me of Infinity and Lexus who over-engineered their early entries. Why did I go back to an 80 after owning a 90 Ultimate 5.0? Great value, the new M platform and see above! The car is still tight, a pleasure to drive and yes, people still ask if it's a Bentley!

Brand new Genesis

I took delivery of my new 2016 Genesis just three days ago so this is more about first impressions rather than a full review. Mine is the 3.8 with the Ultimate package, all the toys. The Genesis is a wonderful package of technology, safety, and quality wrapped in an easy to adjust package. The car drives and handles perfectly. The technology and safety features are what drew me to consider a Genesis. I came from a hybrid Toyota Avalon Limited that got great gas mileage, but was well behind the curve as far as technology and safety. Toyota does hybrid well, but I wanted features such as the dynamic cruise control, automatic emergency breaking, lane keeping assist, and so on. The Genesis delivers these, they work exactly as advertised and exude confidence when driving. The 9.2 inch screen for the nav system is as good as any I have seen on any car. I love the heads up display. The Lexicon sound system is far better than any I have heard. The only suggestion I could offer is to add a little more up-down range to the front power seats to make my wife a little happier.

bought the car for my wife 18 months ago and she tells me often how much she loves the car and how good the car makes her feel. We love this car. So quiet in the cab all around performance is awesome. nothing bad to say other then the fuel mileage could be a little better. Around town about 14mpg maybe even less.

Excellent car. 3.8 provides great acceleration. Transmission is smooth. Very quiet ride. Interior amazing and safety tech is excellent. Nit picking only real issues are the lack of a remote start on key fob (can pay for Bluelink service and use smartphone for remote start function) and the auto high beams need to be reset with each start up.

After owning a 13 genesis coupe r-spec I was sold on Hyundai, I actually loved that car, had it for 3 years and then someone rear-ended me and car was totaled. Time for new car, I wanted something bigger as I'm getting older (37), plus I still have 06 gto, so genesis sedan was one of my choices, but after the test drive and going back and forth with the dealer about the out the door price, I walked out and saw a 13 cts coupe, which I always like the style of, and bought it, 4 months later I went back to the different dealer and cadillac was traded, as I hated that car, I know people still look at the brand names, and try to look down at the hyundai still, but I've test drove new cts, and genesis, done extensive research, and sorry but that cadillac cts has nothing on Genesis. One option that I liked more in the cadillac was the 2.0L turbo which gave you better gas mileage, other than that, seriously nothing. My genesis has a ultimate package, and amount of little things they packed into the car is mind blowing, I knew I don't like cadillac after few days, it's been 3 weeks since I own genesis, and Im just looking for driving it, it's that goood.

Owned the car since Oct. 15 (you said the 16 and 15 were alike) and very pleased with the purchase. Outstanding value when compared to C class Mercedes, 3 or 5 series Beemer, or the aging Lexus. Sold an Avalon which had given us superb service but the dealer service was deteriorating and I think the new Avalons are homely. The Genesis has excellent acceleration from 55-60 to 80 to get around on 2 lane roads, handling is good/adequate for a larger car and highway comfort approaches sitting in my living room. I think the trunk is a bit small and the automatic trunk opening doesn't always perform well. Gas mileage improved about 1mpg when broken in but you sure wouldn't buy it for economy although compared to the Infiniti and Maxima, you use regular gas vs. premium - big savings.

Wonderful Car, Except...

My 2016 Genesis has 60,000 miles, and it replaced a 2015 Genesis with 25,000 miles, so I can speak to long-term ownership. This is a very comfortable car, with excellent driving manners, comfort, and performance; all at a great value. The number of standard features is impressive, and is how all luxury cars should be. I looked into a Lexus, before buying my Genesis, and couldn't believe all the expensive items that were not standard. Furthermore, the cost of maintenance is very reasonable, even lower than my wife's Honda. While it hasn't been needed, the exceptional warranty offers peace of mind. Although it may seem minor to some, my major complaint regarding this car is the persistent squeaks, creaks, and rattles... mostly coming from the panoramic sunroof, but also from the dash area. They occur mostly in cold weather, but for me they ruin what is otherwise an exceptionally quiet and comfortable car. The dealer has "lubricated" the sunroof, but this is only a temporary fix. If it weren't for this, it would be a 5-star review. Lastly, having been hit from the rear by a dump truck (totaled my 2015), I can speak to this car having excellent crash worthiness... I had zero injuries, not even soreness.

I Chose the Genesis Over BMW and Audi

I could have bought anything, and after test driving the Genesis, I fell in love with the car! For the price, it offers everything BMW and Audi offer BUT oil changes are $80 instead of $300. Maintenance is affordable. It has 311 HP, handles like the BMW, and is wonderful to look at. Interior wise, it couldn’t offer more, from heated and air conditioned front seats, to a panoramic sunroof, and every safety feature imaginable. It also has a Lexicon sound system, only found otherwise in a Rolls Royce. America, wake up and buy this car! It’s everything you wanted in a BMW and Audi, but affordable to buy and maintain. Every time I drive it I can’t believe what a wonderful car it is.

The Genesis runs smooth and quiet and a pleasure to drive. Definitely worth the money. However, the bells and whistles takes getting used to because the navigation is tricky , the side outside mirrors takes time to get used to, the dash board controls needs improvements. Before leaving the dealership you need a good lesson on learning the electronics.

Have had the car for just over one month with nothing but high praise for comfort, driving and handling (one snow storm with the AWD system and flawless). Everything is great, but the one thing that stands out is the quiet cabin. At a sustained 80 mph there's no wind or road noise to mention. The 311HP engine puts out more than enough acceleration and cornering is solid. The seats are extremely comfortable and there's ample head room in both front and back. If I had to pick one thing to complain about it's the headrest in the rear middle seat; it somewhat obstructs my view out rear view mirror. I'm sure the headrest comes out, but haven't felt the need to figure it out. My first Hyundai and definitely not my last.

Just an update as I I am coming up on 3 years. Still my favorite car ever. Not one problem. I love driving this thing. Original review: I moved to a Genesis after owning Infiniti. I think the Genesis is a better car than the Infiniti in just about every way, including the dealership experience, all at thousands of dollars less in cost. I managed to get my Signature edition for the price of a base model. Great ride, smooth transmission, plenty of power in the v6, very quiet, lots of headroom and legroom. The only nits I can pick are that the brakes are rather soft and need to be applied earlier, and the automatic windshield wiper goes way too fast for the amount of rain. Other than that I am simply loving this car. Get lots of looks and questions about what it is, especially since I changed out the Hyundai flying H badge on the trunk for a KDM Genesis wings logo in back.

Being an avid car owner, this being my 26th vehicle, I can say it beats all of the others by a very wide margin. I have owned just about every make on the market and Hyundai doesn't disappoint at all. This car punches way above its weight class at a fraction of the price. Stylish, roomy, quiet, comfortable, and I still get 24+ mpg's average out of a large sedan. This Genesis has all of the bells and whistles that many other manufacturers have only a few of. If you're looking for an amazing car that can save you THOUSANDS of dollars, then check out a Genesis today!

I enjoy the smooth ride and power of the car. We just got back from a family road trip. So far, we have no issue with the engine. However, we had to replace the second time the strips on top of the car from the outside. They don't seem to last long. The paint was peeling off. The first time, it was still in the warranty, but the second time, it was not. I think they used a cheaper paint for this part. That's my only disappointment about this car. Everything else is perfect. We have had this car since 2016. Surprisingly, the engine still runs very quietly. Sometimes, I couldn't tell if it was on or off. Today is Jan 5, 2025. I have had this car for almost 10 years. The Genesis is running as quietly as a mouse. The ride is smooth, and the engine is nearly silent. Performance-wise, I have no complaints. However, Genesis should improve the exterior, particularly the paint, which has started to chip or fade in recent years. The interior still holds up well.

Genesis of Genesis

Have leased the car for about a month and driven it only about 500 miles. It is a big sedan, on the style of an S class or a 7 series, more than a sporty car. It is very comfortable and I really like the climate control and the optional seats with the cushion extender. The seating position seems low, having driven an SUV for the last 8 years. The belt line for the window ledges is high, like most modern cars. Acceleration and braking are excellent, even though this is the 6, not the 8. The suspension is very comfortable and more supple than I expected with the 45 series tires. The Signature package is a must, the sunroof and blind spot monitors make it a luxury car. I also got the tech package, but I'm not sure the leather upgrade and auto braking are worth it. Fit and finish is impeccable. I would be happier if it were somewhat smaller for maneuvering in the city. Definitely worth every penny. I can't comment on service, durability or such, because it's brand new.

Owner since February 2016. Absolutely not problems. Car is a definite head Turner. Mileage is 23 mpg overall. Not bad. Car uses regular gas. It is a solid and heavy luxury vehicle. Safety is number one. It has the excellent road feel. The I interior is first class-real wood dash and no plastic, only metal. The leather is superior quality. The sunroof is the entire roof! Awesome! 300 horsepower pins you to your seat and sounds so good. This car has everything. Ever the underside is completely covered with what looks like a solid wall to wall carpet for super sound and aerodynamics characteristics. Incredible! This car should probably cost twice what I paid for it! Wow! Is all I can say about this car. Edmunds saved me several thousand off the sticker price, too.

I had two Equus before buying the G90 5.0. The G90 is a great car, nice appearance but terrible ride. IT BOTTOMS OUT with nothing in the trunk with or without someone in the back seat. I take business clients out in this car and they all think it is a fantastic car until we hit the first bump. I WILL NOT PURCHASE another one for that very reason. I have brought this to the attention of the dealer and they confirmed they have had other complaints and promised to contact Hyundai with NO RESULT!

I love and read about cars like religion. I might now be able to buy a Series 7 BMW or an S class Mercedes, but I have had the luck of by chance landing in the cabin of this new Genesis 3.8 RWD. I have NEVER been a fan of Korean vehicles, but I take my hat off to the people who designed this vehicle. It is a lot of car for the money. It drives very nice, it has acceleration. I was able to purchase this vehicle thru a lease promotion and man am I happy I did. If this company has plans for keeping this vehicle as practical and refined as the one I own now in the future, then I will a loyal lease client for many years ahead.

This is a really comfortable car with great electronics. I bought the car with a Tech Package since until the 2018 models, the Ultimate package does not have Android Auto and that was a must-have for me. And it makes all the difference in the world. The pickup and handling is nowhere near an Audi A6, but once it's cruising, there is no difference. The handling on the Audi is sporty, but I actually prefer the handling on the Genesis. It's a lot smoother and feels more luxurious. The ride is very quiet. The seats are comfortable. Adaptive Cruise Control takes some getting used to, but it's great once you do. Great warranty. About the only things I'd say are cons are fuel economy (most likely because the car is so heavy) and weird packaging of options. No steering wheel and back seat heating except for the AWD model. 360 deg camera only in European models. About the only thing I really dislike is that you have to buy a $200 year Blue Link subscription to remote heat the car. There is absolutely no reason why this can't be done technically through direct Wifi connection. Or through the remote.

I have owned my Genesis now for over two years, have 27,000 miles in it and like it even more than when I first leased it! It is truly a luxury car in all ways. Fit and finish have stood up over time. It is powerful and responsive and therefore fun to drive. It is also quiet with an excellent sound system and even though now over two years old has the technology only added recently in other makes. Smart Cruise Control with Stop/Start, Lane Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Apple Carplay, etc. I can't recommend this car too highly!

Bought this car after seeing them on the freeway and after experiencing a test drive. Fit and finish is incredible and the look is unique enough to look classy and not boring like all the different variations of the Audi, BMW and Merc's. I am glad I opened my mind to something new and I have not been let down. Looking forward to any added benefits of the Genesis brand at regular Hyundai dealerships.

Lots of miles on a 2015 Tech Pacakged Genesis

Drives very well and accelerates. The 3.8 is plenty powerful. The ride is quiet and a nice blend or sporty and cushy. I've had three problems. 1 Visibility: at 6 ft 3 in the A beams are too thick and can easily obstruct vision at corners from my height. 2. The driver seat cushion deteriorated (I'm 225 lbs?) and was replaced on warranty. Lastly the car had a smokey smell that lasted 90 days at the outset. Beside tires and oil and filters...I've spent virtually nothing for maintenance and am approaching 65K miles. I leased enriched to 25K mi per yr. and so will be turning it back in or buying it a $19.6K residual which seems to be a little pricey for the 75K miles it will have. Still, it has been an excellent value and I'd recommend it to others especially tall folks as it offers just a little more room than other sedans which makes a big difference. I generally agree that the Hyundai/Genesis Dealer network is still weak and holds the brand back some.

THE HANDLES ARE HORRIABLE

I've had my Genesis 2016 for less than 10 months. First handle to brake off the car was the rear left passenger door. Now the other passenger door handle has broke in half when I gently opened it. I didn't yank on it, or try to open it when it was locked, I was just opening the door to retrieve my umbrella, and it broke off. it must be a "flaw" in the car. First of, they are PLASTIC, and for a 45,000 vehicle they should be made of metal. My Hyundai dealership is the worst. Each time I had to get a new handle, they never have them in the parts department, REALLY? With this obviously being a problem with this car. So it took both times over two weeks to 3 weeks to come in. Then they call and tell me it has to be "painted" to the color of the car, that he said would be another 4 days. Come on, have the parts in stock. That's the Wallace Hyundai in Stuart Fl. I love the car but think they need to reconsider how to make better handles that last for them.

remote start issues

To me a $53,000 car should have a key fob with a remote start button on it. The least expensive cars have it and you are forced to buy the blue tooth option to be able to start the car remotely. I new this when i leased the car and was told how great it was and that's my complaint. I have two homes one in the city and one in the country in Pennslyvania. If you are in an area that does not have cell service, your out of luck. That's not good on those cold Pa mornings and evenings. I had just got the car and bragged how great it was to our friends on our way to dinner but remotlely starting the car so it would be warmed up didnt happen and rather imbarrassing to say the least. Also in an office building and they don't provide wifi you out of luck.Thirdly if you don't use it within a few days you must reprogram the system all over again. My 2013 Lincoln MKZ I was able to go to the window on both homes press the remote start button on the key fob and it would start right up and be nice and warm or cooled in just a few minutes. Very poorly thought out by Genesis And I Know for sure I wont lease another Genesis

I have been given many, many compliments on my Genesis. The beauty, the ride, you name it. This vehicle should be listed as a luxury sedan because it's not just any sedan. The drive is so relaxing while enjoying it's beautiful interior, the Genesis takes it to a whole new level. I'm looking forward to my second Genesis. Two thumbs up for the Genesis!!

I was happily putt-putting around town in my Kia Soul Bae, when at age 70 I decided it was the time in my life for a fancy car. I thought the Genesis sedan was beautiful....so I tried the three year lease. Buyers remorse: Yes! For me, it is simply too much to learn. The manual might not fit into the Library of Congress. For instance there is a very thick "quick guide" to the navigation system that supposedly simplifies a "Gone With the Wind" full size navigation system guide. The day to day operation of the car presents some challenges as well. Getting in and out is a struggle...and I'm a short 5'5". The driver side mirror doesn't re-adjust properly after you reverse it out of the driveway. This is an intermittent problem, but more often than not You have to manually re-set it up to its proper position. Cracking the door open in order to turn off the engine without wasting battery is an odd procedure as well. On the plus side, the lane departure warning and other safety features are a delight, as is the cruise control. The stop and hold and ECO controls are wonderful too, but you have to re-set them every time you start the car. Stuff like the automatic trunk opening are silly and unnecessary. If you go around the back of the parked vehicle with the keys in your pocket it pops open whether you want it to or not. Bottom line, the Genesis is a wonderful vehicle, but for me it is mentally exhausting to operate. Love the Hyundai and Kia brands.....so when this lease is mercifully over...maybe I'll go back to the Kia Soul....with all the trimmings.

Total misrepresentation of features

Buyer beware! I received a brand new, fully loaded 2016 Genesis with every possible feature -- I purchased 48 months (my term of my lease) the "BlueLink package. I received "updates and download" information in my e-mail and my car is trying to "automatically sync and download updates and apps". The navigation system that is in the Genesis does not allow this update and download App feature as indicated when I received the auto. The screen shows a place to "download" and "Update" - instructions sent to "Sync" to my android phone -- yet it is not possible. Dealership said they are "working on it" and they hope to have an answer "soon". I am looking to see if there is a class action suit that will be involving the 2016 Genesis. It's a beautiful car, lots of features - everyone loves it until they get in and hear the recording "your updates failed, would you like to try again?" Just be careful! I believe this is a liability hazard and don't trust the "safety features" on the car as a result of this failure. Not good for a $50K plus car!!
