I was looking for a car with upgraded technology- My must haves were Back up camera, Navigation, lane change alerts and heated seats. I got the best of all of these along with dual A/C which means I can stop arguing with my spouse about the interior temperature. I cannot believe we got all this in an Elantra! This is my 3rd Elantra (2008/2012) and I honestly wasn't going to get another until I saw this beauty on the lot (shimmery beige). My 2012 got horrible gas mileage, so i wasn't expecting much. To my amazement, I have been getting 33-35 mpg every tank, so that is a mix of all driving. I don't gun it to accelerate, but my husband does, so it is truly a combination of all driving. This week, 35.7! I am not reading the MPG that is on the screen, I am calculating it when I fill my tank, based on miles i drove, so it is completely accurate! It took me awhile to figure out the navigation, but it high quality and great graphics. My only tiny complaint, is that the screen is so sensitive, it is not easy to touch and scroll. I still haven't gotten used to that. It has way better acceleration than my '08I have never been happier with a car. Definitely a "BUY!"

Doesn't feel or look anything like old compacts

First thing is the SE trim is amazingly well equipped inside if you add the tech package. This is the best infotainment I have seen in an economy car or really any luxury car that was 2013 or prior. Large prominent full color display with seemless Pandora integration using Bluetooth or Android auto. Full phone navigation on the display is great as well even if potentially buggy depending on the phone. Cloth seats in 2017 models have come a long way even in the last few years. Usually cloth looks cheap and a little out of place. In this case the cloth looks durable and we'll suited to the clean new look of the car. The patterns are taste full and sharp while the added leather center console and wheel on the upgraded SE make the overall interior feel rich for such a budget car. The base sound system is also surprisingly punchy. My wife's 2013 sonata standard system doesn't have nearly as much body or as clear highs. The sound may not touch a premium set of speakers, but having turned down the limited trim with its upgradable speakers I have to say I am plenty happy with the base system. It seems like they must be pushing more wattage than older base head units because it gets loud enough to make your ears ring with only minor distortion. It reminds me of the difference of adding aftermarket speakers and a custom head unit without an amplifier. So better than expected. This car drives a lot more like my 2013 sonata with better electronic steering, than what I used to consider a compact car. I really happen to love the new feel of their steering and also the very quite ride compared to older models. I feel like the car has plenty of power especially in sport mode. I have no doubt a civic especially a si would destroy it but my car only cost 18k after tax and tag and both base packages with the base trim. Honda doesn't offer any breaks to compete with that price. Though I will say the car can cruise at 80 to 90 and still feel smooth and ready to go. Sport mode gives you passing power enough to feel confident in normal city driving so you are not a punching bag. The only time I would want more passing power would be to drive like a jerk. The car also feels very solid on high speed banks. Overall this is the most refined budget compact car I have ever driven. I also find the new civic extremely appealing but the price on the hyundai is infinitely better with all their incentives.

The new 17 is better that previous model

So I drove a Silver Limited the other day, I have to say it drives and feels way better than either my 12 or 13 limited. It does feel more like a luxury sedan. For people who say the looks are not as good go see it in person, after the test drive I parked it next to my Silver 12 limited and I can say the new one is more attractive. The side view is similar but the new one is slightly more aerodynamic looking. The front end looks a lot better and the rear end looks wider and slightly better. I am not going to jump in right away but I may trade one of our cars for a new one.

This is one fine car to drive for comfort and handling.From the very nice seating to the fine quiet ride, the limited Elantra is always an enjoyable ride, on city streets or highway driving, its a great enjoyable ride.The gas mileage is 25 city 39 highway and very good performance.Very quiet and a very solid feel over all kinds of roads.Visibility and safety are great and the radio really sounds high end.There is a roomy and comfortable rear seat thats easy getting in and out.Steering is also an improvement over earlier models which gives me a confident feel.Overall for the class I think this car ranks right at the top.

Amazing value in a car!

This car is quiet, nimble, conservative yet athletic in its styling, intuitive and perhaps better in fuel economy than its ratings suggest. The overall fit and finish feels expensive and there is a feeling of safety and reliability conveyed. I have the base Limited PZEV model (NY). If I wanted to hire lease payment there was an additional technology package in ultimate package that would have taken this vehicle over the top for me. But hey, we all have a budget. The ride was second to none when compared with others in its segment and despite the slightly dated torsion beam suspension in the rear rather than newer multi-link suspension technology, this car floats! Let's not forget as well that even though this car competes in the compact segment, the 2017 Elantra qualifies as a midsize sedan based on its interior space. Engine pickup is actually not disappointing and feels appropriate for this segment. Want more zing? Pop it in sport mode and you've got more than enough power to giddyup. The steering also tightens in this mode for a better feel around corners at higher speeds. The Limited trim was my favorite by far and dressed out the car quite nicely. Gotta love the 17 in. "Ninja wheels," as I like to call them. The SE trim, however was unexciting and the wheels just didn't do it for me. A disappointment in the Limited model came when discovering that the moon roof did not come standard as in even the second tier trims of the all new Civic. Hyundai promised new trims will be available later. The Hyundai entertainment system lacks text messaging, which can be frustrating, but all models of this year offer Android Auto and Apple Car Play. (be sure to close apps you're not using or it will be slow). Support for Android Auto was was actually high on my list when shopping to replace my 2013 Corolla. Hyundai blue link allows you to start with climate control, unlock, lock, toggle horn and lights and more with it's connected package, which is free for a year and the remote package, which is $75 your first year and 99 after that. Hyundai blue Link app also supports smart watches. These are great features but it is disappointing that there is no remote start on the key fob itself and it is only available through blue link or having an optional remote start added requiring a second key fob. There's also no option to just purchase the package you must have connected package (roadaide assistance, SOS etc.) which is another hundred dollars if you desire the remote package. Want OnStar-like navigation and support? Throw another "hundy" at Hyundai. As far as convenience goes, when approaching the car if it has been locked, the door handles light up, assisting you with getting into your car without damaging it and giving the driver a feel that the car knows him or her. Also, there is a smart trunk which opens when the driver stands behind the trunk with the key fob for more than four seconds with the doors locked. Very very handy! Is it the most full-featured, bells and whistles car out there? Well...no, but it sure does compete and offer amazing value and quality. Every car has pros and cons and there is a very high probability that this car has just the pros you're looking for.

I had my heart set on a Toyota Corolla. I visited a nearby Toyota dealership and met with a salesman who never called me back. I phoned a second dealership and the salesman told me to come in on Saturday - only to find out when I went in that he sold it to his MOM! Whaaaat? So since it wasn't working out for me I decided I had to consider a different car. Honda is very nice but I could buy close to the same thing from Hyundai for $1000 less. My 2012 Ford Focus Titanium was totaled, and I knew I couldn't purchase another because the transmission made an unattractive sound (we called it the car-fart sound) and Ford is facing a class action suit regarding the unattractive sound (transmission). It had an awesome ten speaker sound system which I miss, and I thank God and the air bags that that protected me from injury. I have emotional baggage regarding Mazda. Their "soul red metallic" is far richer than Hyundai in scarlet red pearl, but I simply cannot have a Mazda in my life. The small sedan Chevrolet never appealed to me. So I decided to look at...Hyundai. Three people where I work, all in management, drive Hyundais and are satisfied with their cars. Most important to me was getting a pretty red, a sedan not SUV, small ,but not teensy, highly reliable, good mileage, and most of all, heated seats. I test drove a 2017 Hyundai Elantra Limited and, surprisingly, I liked it. The ride is remarkably smooth and quiet. The Elantra is quiet, and over bumps it's soft and smooth, without bounce. An article in the San Diego Union-Tribune explains it well. It says the Hyundai is "bonded with aircraft-grade glue — 390 feet of the adhesive compared with about 10 feet in the previous model. The result is a snug cabin, reduced vibration and a stronger foundation to hang the suspension for a more-planted ride." I bought it two months ago and am pleased with the purchase. The seat gets nice and warm even on my back. I see I will have to pay for the Bluelink after 12 months and I am still learning all it does, but it's nice being able to turn on the car and A/C from afar. I can see the text on the LCD screen without reading glasses well enough, and the touchscreen responds better than the one in my Ford Focus did. My husband got me a little clippie thing to attach my iPhone to the air vent and it's easy to use the Bluetooth navigation that way. I figured I don't need nav in the car since it's on my phone. The only thing I wish I had is the upgraded sound system. The regular sound system is okay, but I like to feel my music so I miss having decent bass. The car comes with quite a few zoo-zoos and wham-whams like the back-up camera and a warning sound if a car is too close and the free roadside assistance for five years doesn't hurt my feelings either. I thought that Hyundai was sort of a weird car, but it's not weird. It's a good car! The 2016 Toyota Corolla I test drove was plain by comparison. I will update if I have any problems with it. Update 12/27/17 - It's been one and a half years. No problems. We change the oil periodically and put air in the tires sometimes. Even my husband will drive it now because the truck gets terrible mileage. He says I get 35 mpg. When my hair is up it's hard not to bump my head getting in and out which I admit, is irritating. The heated seats are WONderful. My husband got me some great sounds installed so I have plenty of bass now. The one thing I am unhappy with is that after one year you must pay $200 to use the BlueLink. Yeah, you can pay $100 for partial access which does not include the nice amenities. Or you can pay monthly. But whatever, it's $200 to use BlueLink for the autostart feature, and to heat or cool the car before getting in it. Whose idea was that anyway? They ought to be fired. I would rather pay an up front, one-time fee because the car IS mine. Anyway, it's two hundred dollars every year to access the amenities. What am I? Rich? I don't think so. Am I driving a Tesla? I don't think so. Update: 12/28/19 - I'm still super happy with this car. Oil is changed every 5,000 miles and she has 50k on her now. My husband puts Mobile synthetic oil in it. A ginormous dust devil blew across the road and ruined the paint on one side in three seconds. Insurance got me a new paint job. We're careful in the rain because the tires are so narrow they make me nervous. They don't feel very grippy. The running lights on driver's side are out and we need to get that fixed. We drive her every day. She's never broken down and that's very important.

I wanted a car with better gas mileage to replace my old 2003 Sonata. However, I also wanted a car with some creature comforts and not just a plain small econo-box. I started looking about a year ago and checked out all the 2015 compact cars. They were okay, but they all lacked the look I liked or the interior was wrong for me. I read the previews about some of the new models and since they sounded promising, I held off buying any of the older cars. Finally the new 2016 Honda Civic and Chevy Cruze rolled out. They received good reviews and the Civic received raves in some places. The prices for the upscale models killed them for me though. I wanted something nice, but not one that would drain my wallet to get one. I finally decided to check out what Hyundai was offering. I had not realized the old Elantra had been completely replaced by a new 2017 model year design. When I came across that news, I was interested to say the least. Hyundai always offers great features, long warranty (I already knew that from before), and decent prices. So I checked out the early reviews and they were positive to very positive, putting the Elantra in the top tier of compact cars. I then saw that Hyundai had a bunch of rebates in effect so I jumped at the chance. I had the find one in the color and trim and I wanted - Mineral Beige in Limited trim - hard to find. But find one I did and took it out for a drive and said to myself, I glad I held out as this is the car I wanted. I bought it right then and there. Pros: Excellent looking car. I think it looks better than most competitors in the class. The 17inch alloys are nice and makes the car distinct. Very good gas mileage. Most of my driving is highway with some city mixed in and I'm getting 39mpg combined. Ride is composed, with good road feel. I would have preferred a little more give over bumps, but that is personal preference. You can corner going fairly fast and the tires grip well even though the car is not marketed to the performance crowd. Very little wind noise and engine noise. 147 horsepower is more than enough in this car. It passes on two lanes fast enough to hit 90mph before you know it. The leather seats are comfortable with really good side bolstering and with the power driver seat and tilt/telescoping steering wheel, it wheel gives me an excellent driving position. Excellent blind-side traffic detection and cross-traffic detection when backing up. These are must haves when buying a new car and Hyundai's version works really well. Back seat room will be fine for most people and the seats are nice for the class. The AV Media and Radio system is nice. Upscale and works well with plenty of features for the Bluetooth and Wifi users. The standard limited trim has plenty of goodies for most people unless you really want rear heated seats and adaptive cruise control and other high end extras that you are willing to pay more for. Cons: Could have used more soft-touch materials on the door. The plain plastic around the power window buttons detracts from the experience in the limited trim. The trunk is a little small, but this is a compact car after all. The tires are noisy to my ears and intrude into the cabin. I wish Hyundai would have done a little better here. No remote start on the control fob. You have to use the Bluelink cellphone system and pay for the previlage to start remotely. You do get other features if you pay the Bluelink fee. To get the Homelink system with programmable garage door opener you have to add the extra technology package. The package includes other major goodies that some people will want. You can add the Homelink rearview mirror later on as an accessory, but I wish that had been part of the standard limited trim. Overall this is a five star car. Hyundai has really elevated the Elantra in class for 2017. If you don't need the a Sonata size vehicle, you will want to take the Elantra for a test drive and see for youself. Treat yourself to the Limited and you will not be dissappointed for years to come in my opinion.

Really like the new Elantra

The Elantra is probably the best bang for the buck as far as bells and whistles are involved. We got ours for 19k out the door. The infotainment system is great. Sleek styling and easy to use. The 6-speed auto transmission shifts smoothly and on time. Gives you 40 MPGs on the highway. The ride is comfortable with a little wind noise. Plenty of room in the back, as opposed to the Corollas. This is a great family sedan.

The Small Car of the Future

Originally I was looking at A Toyota Prius, because of the mileage. However they were out of my price range. I started looking at the Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Toyota Carrolla, and Nissan Sentra (No KIA's, don't like their styling). Other Brand cars left out due to mileage ratings.. After looking, and driving these cars, I settled on A 2017 Hyundai Elantra Limited for its styling, mileage ratings, smooth ride, and good interior setup. The car has a leather interior which is very comfortable. The setup of the interior is very nice, with all the controls within easy reach. The second day we had the car, we headed out on a small trip (265 miles round trip). The ride was smooth, except my wife said the front passenger seat had too much vibration to it (I will have this looked at by the Dealership). I felt very comfortable during the ride to and from our destination. The mileage was great. I averaged 44.5 MPG going to our destination, and then with driving around the Wildlife refuge (start and stop many times), we ended up for the whole trip with a combined mileage average of 42.3 MPG. I have repeated these numbers time after time going to and from work (30 miles each way. I travel about 24 miles on the freeway, and 6 miles in city. They had a great price, and the dealership was willing to come down substantially on the price. I found this very good, since their main concentration was selling their prior years stock of 2016’s. The experience with the salesman was great (His name is Woody – Streetsboro, Ohio). I would definitely buy a car from him again. I will end this by saying I look forward to getting in this car and driving to work every day.

VERY NICE CAR! Younger people don't know that in the 70s 80s that small cars had no options to speak of .A/C was a huge option. No power windows ,door locks ,cruise control etc.... My first new car was a1979 Toyota Celica. Those were great cars and sold like hotcakes! Little 22 r 4 cyl 5 speed stick and dealer added Ac. Hp rating 91!! Oh and Manuel steering. Loved it! Drove it everywhere including 3 trips from so cal to the east coast. Up mountain roads, no problem fast forward to 2016 and people bemoan a compact with only 147 Hp. Really? And all the options any one could want. And reiewers complain it has a little wind noise,some road noise. They do know this is a moving car right?. And some say it rides ok at 55 .please it drives just fine at 80 85 mph all day long! It sure does on my trips to Vegas and back! In this owners opinion, it is an awesome well equipped comfortable competent car, an economy car that's light years ahead of those that came before them. Not one thing that man ever built is perfect. Just buy it. Enjoy it take care of it.and it should serve you well for many many years. Update, Have 23000 miles on car now, has been absolutely trouble free, I am very pleased and satisfied with it. Comfortable, spacious, Iam getting 29 30 city, 38, 39 highway, at 80 mph .I HIGHLY recommend this car.

Hyundai Elantra is like a shrunken Sonata

The Elantra is a great basic compact automobile. I think it looks and performs better than other makes in this class. Rides quietly, handles well, very good gas mileage, comfortable and controls are laid out well. Front bumper is low to the ground and can get dinged if you are not careful when parking.

2017 Hyundai Elantra ECO - A mixed bag review

The biggest thing I would tell anyone looking for an Elantra is that tall people need not apply. I am 6'1" and I have a hard time getting in and out of my ECO model. We also had an issue after two months of ownership where the car just suddenly died in our driveway. The car was in the shop for almost three days when they finally discovered that the battery connections were not correct and the issue was fixed. A final note is that the transmission hesitates (at times) in first gear and when you need to get going in a hurry, expect to have to press the gas pedal harder to get started. For the positives, I love the blind-spot monitoring system and the infotainment system, Gas mileage consistently delivers above the EPAs listed numbers. Four adults fit fairly comfortably (with exception to my earlier comment about being tall). My ECO has plenty of power to go over Utah mountain passes even loaded down with four adults and a trunk full of Costco Supplies. 11 month update as of 9/7/2018: I now have 13500 miles on my Elantra ECO and I am taking the vehicle in next week to have two issues addressed. First, the transmission continues to hesitate at times when starting from a dead stop. Second, the brakes stated squealing a couple of weeks ago. Shouldn't be happening on a vehicle that I have owned for 11 months. On an additional note, the dealership that I bought the Elantra a year ago was bought out by another company and I did not have a good experience with them trying to schedule my second maintenance appointment. My appointment next week is closer to where I work as opposed to closer where I live and is the same company that does maintenance on my Honda. I am hoping that they will do a better job with helping resolve issues. The technician on the phone was very nice today when I set up the appointment. We will see how it goes. Update as of 3/10/2020: Tires are about worn at under 40,000 miles and will be replaced soon. AC is not working properly on the driver's side control and defaults to auto defrost mode, unless the temperature is set to "Lo". Passenger climate control is not affected. Gas mileage continues to be above average for highway driving situations. Had my right rear passenger window blow out for no known reason while driving down the Interstate two months ago. Vehicle does have good torque and power going over mountain passes. Still a mixed bag. The vehicle still hesitates at lower speeds but not as frequently as before. Still a mixed bag after 2 1/2 years of ownership.

First Hyundai

I wanted to trade in my 2011 Kia optima which had 97000 and not one problem. The only thing I did was fill with gas, change the oil every 5000 miles and buy one new set of tires. I took a civic ex home one night for a test drive And did the same with an elantra se with popular and tech packages. The civic was nice and the dealer was very easy to work with but the civic just didn't fit me right. I could not get in a comfortable position. It was a great car and the CVT wasn't bad. How can they make a car without xm though? There are no incentives on the civic and the dealer can only discount so much when they are selling like hotcakes. I went back to Hyundai to drive a limited with no extra packages. I knew I had found my next car. It has everything I need and want and nothing I don't. The ride is so smooth and quiet. Very impressive. The six speed transmission is really nice. They say the power is "lacking" but I think what that means is that the mazda 3 has more power. This is a compact car. The power is more the adequate. I ended up getting around 3800 off sticker plus .9 for 60. I felt this was a really good deal. This car is not selling well so the dealer has to be aggressive. I would highly recommend you test drive his vehicle before buying another.

I have been driving my Elantra Limited since July 2017 and I am very impressed. This car has the ultimate package with auto stop, lane sensor warnings, 17 inch tires, interactive cruse control and blind spot radar. The gas mileage is fantastic! I get between 33.5 mpg and 44.1 mpg. I once drove 50 miles at 65 MPH (cruse control) and got 47.1 mpg! This car has only been to the dealer once for a recall!! The quality thus far perfect! 78,957 miles and runs great!

I bought this 2017 Hyundai Elantra SE with the popular equipment package. I have owned this car for almost two years, and love the 100,000 mile power train warranty. Other things i love about this car is it has apple car play, which i use extensively! One thing i find annoying about this car is its 2.0l Atkinson cycle engine doesn't have good low end torque at the bottom of the rev range. I have to get the rpms around 3-4,500 to use the torque. One thing that offsets this annoyance is the sport mode feature. I use this mode when i want more get up and go. For instance passing and merging on the highway is so much easier with sport mode. i don't use eco mode that often, since I don't think it makes much of a difference in my fuel economy. I really want the Elantra Sport due to it having more torque and horsepower. Overall, i enjoy owning my 2017 Hyundai Elanta.

I have had this car for over four years and it is hands-down the most unreliable car I’ve ever owned. There’s literally always something wrong with it. I hate it so much I’ve started leaving the doors unlocked in hopes someone will steal it.

Ultimate test: Round trip from Tulsa to Las Vegas.. Dove it a total of 2500 miles, flawless, no issues. Comfortable, and did close to 45 MPG average. Drove though a winter storm in the mountains of New Mexico and although it was scary as hell at night, the little beast performed very well. I love all the features included in the Value edition and the MPG. Very easy to drive in town through stop and go traffic, especially through the Tulsa streets which are full of potholes. The looks are growing on me, in the beginning I thought it was kind of bland, but it really is a nice looking car, it is classy looking and doesn't look (to me) like an economy car, but more like an upscale-sporty sedan. The design is similar to the Sonata's and it has reminiscence to Audi's due to both sharing the same designer. Overall this car is a great value, it's safe, reliable, well built and economical.

I recently purchased a used 2017 Hyundai Elantra Limited Ultimate. The price was very fair for a car with every available option. I have been getting 35 mpg around town and low 40's on the highway. I am very comfortable in this car and it is bigger inside than you might expect. The front seats are quite good and the interior materials are very acceptable. Some hard plastics but not unexpected for the money. The electronic safety gizmos work very well and are easy to understand and operate. The lane keeping assist will actually steer the car to the middle of the lane if you don't do it yourself when you feel the wheel alert you to correct. Every car represents certain compromises and the Elantra accomplishes these in a very acceptable way. Some may complain that the car is not fast enough and doesn't handle like a BMW but it performs admirably. There are a lot of fine in this segment and the Hyundai is clearly one of them. This car also has an exemplary repair record and cost to own. One year Update: My opinion and appreciation of the Elantra's virtues remain unchanged. On a recent trip trip from Chapel Hill, NC to Alexandria, Va the car averaged 44.1 miles per gallon. No repairs or maintenance has been required. I also recently purchased a Sonata which is a little larger and nicer than the Elantra but the family lineage is quite strong. I will write a review of the Sonata shortly but my comments will probably be very similiar.

Fun Elantra Sport Turbo

This car is awesome. It looks beautiful, runs great and handles really well. With the high strength steel and added glue along with the Turbo and rear wheel independent suspension with much better dampening I think it is the best car Hyundai currently makes. I'm getting about 30 mpg on three tanks of regular. It's pretty quick but not as fast as the 2014 Sonata Turbo I returned on lease. But its body structure is a lot quieter and stiffer than the Sonata. It handles well in the corners and felt really composed during a heavy rain storm. The Tech package is worth the money and I am enjoying the Sunroof and nice sounding stereo, though I do turn it off every once in awhile because the car sounds so good.

Leased this car 7 months ago and I absolutely love it! Great value for a great price. I have the SE, so it doesn't come with all of the bells and whistles (i.e. bluetooth, back up camera, etc.), but that doesn't matter at all. Both the front and back are extremely spacious, and I can tell you that both the front and back seats are incredibly comfortable. All of the controls and devices are within reach, and the lighting (both naturally and artificially) in the car is sufficient. The stereo system is crisp, clear, and easy to navigate. As far as performance goes, this car does surprisingly well. The engine is powerful yet soft--it isn't noisy from the outside nor the inside, which helps with hearing the radio, fellow passengers, and emergency vehicles. Steering is sharp and takes little effort, and the turning radius is above average. The car handles bumps very well, and the braking system is superb. As far as acceleration, the '17 Elantra SE starts out normally but quickly picks up speed as you move into second gear in regular mode (my SE is an automatic). In addition to regular, the SE also has an eco mode (for saving gas) and a sport mode (especially useful for 0-60 highway merges), which, again, plays into the great value-great price mantra. The outside lighting is perfect--the headlights provide great visibility and the taillights are both easy to see and are really sporty looking (look up some pictures). I recently drove my Elantra SE in the snow, and I must say that this may have been the thing that impressed me the most. The car cuts through the snow like a knife; the tire grip is better than some snow-ready SUV's I've driven. Obviously, it's not going to cut through 6+ inches of snow, but for accumulations less than this, blow-over snow, ice patches, and small snow/ice piles, the Elantra SE passes with flying colors in my book. There are only two "cons" that I might see with the car: 1. it sits pretty low to the ground, so it's sometimes a little hard to get into if you're a tall person and 2. it tends to get blown around more than the average car during a windy day on the road--but you can control the car just fine. Seriously though, if you're looking for a compact car with great value, comfort, and safety, you'd be unwise not to consider the '17 Elantra.

The value on this vehicle is amazing, very easy to drive and comfortable. I work For Hyundai and to be honest i never even considered owning one until I took a customer on a test drive in the 6 speed manual. I was hooked. The ease of shifting and how simple the SE is. I was looking to get into an SUV or something a little bit Larger but I ended up loving the Elantra. the 10 Year 100k Mile Power-train warranty keeps maintenance simple and the 5 year 60K bumper to bumper makes it even better.

After owning this car for two years, here are the things I'm pleased with: great interior and exterior styling. Quiet smooth engine, good power, amazing gas mileage (42-43 mpg on the highway) loads of features, incredible rebates to bring down the price, love the heated seats, transmission is superb, handling is excellent for this price range. Negatives: bucket seats are extremely hard and uncomfortable, bottom seat cushion is too short from front to back (doesn't support things enough), leather steering wheel is very slippery when new, sunroof sits back too far, can't see the sky unless you tilt your head back, volume knob and up/down volume controls on steering wheel are slow to respond, very quiet in general but some tire noise gets into the cabin at highway speeds. I wish the speakers put out a better quality of sound.

I have completed just under 1000 miles in my new 2017 Elantra Sport manual transmission and I can honestly say that I love it. My prior car was a 2013 Sonata 2.0T and I was a bit concerned moving into the Elantra Sport for several reasons. First, it is a smaller car. Second, the Sonata 2.0T was a wolf in sheep's clothing as far as acceleration. My concerns were unfounded. The Elantra Sport has plenty of room, especially in the front seats. The leather bucket seats have excellent support and are quite comfortable (I am six foot and 215lbs). The acceleration in the Elantra Sport is well above average. I certainly haven't been in any situation where the car was under powered. Finally I am getting about 31 mpg in a mostly suburban driving environment - much better than I was expecting and a significant improvement over the Sonata. I highly recommend this car!

Before my Elantra Sport DCT, I was driving a 2014 Mazda 3i Touring 6-Speed, which was a fantastic car to drive. It didn't have many features but just knew how to put the smile on your face. Sadly that car was totalled in early 2017, forcing me to find another vehicle. I had heard the Elantra Sport was coming so I immediately went searching (having been working for Hyundai for 5 years now) and came up with my Electric Blue 2017 Sport Pkg 1 (no Premium Pkg). I wanted the manual transmission but my dealer(s) all said they didnt have any (which was a lie as the next morning I went over to the sister store to my local one and they had 5 in stock that had been there for days), so already the experience wasn't great, having been lied to and put in a car I didn't necessarily, whole heartedly want...and this was just the beginning. Within the first few hundred miles, the Dual Clutch automatic transmission started jerking and kicking a bit but I knew since the car was new, I figured it was just the transmission breaking in, but it progressively got worse, so I put the car into service which turned out to be a total farse. Time after time I was told there was nothing wrong with it, saying, and I quote "that's just how it behaves..." but it simply got even worse over time (stalling out, jerking around, poor acceleration or losing power altogether). After a call to Hyundai USA, they had my car put into another dealer's service shop, where I was told the transmission needed a reflash (at 5500 miles now). Got it done and that seemed to work...for about a month, then it did it again, but this time it was more intermittent than before, so I continued to drive the car just as it was until my next oil change (now at 10K+ miles). After a check over, the tech said nothing was wrong, sent me on my way and left me clueless if my car was broken or if this really was the transmission's normal behavior. Fast forward to January 2019, the car has seen the shop 8 TIMES and no actions taken by Hyundai to repurchase the car after all these constant issues. Reason being? Apparently Hyundai's wonderful technicians (as they say) were not writing up the RO's (receipts) for my service work, so therefore Hyundai wasn't seeing all these issues that were consistently occurring nor had any documentation to prove it. So now at 32300 miles, I'm still having stalling, sputtering, and overall garbage performance from the car and still the company refuses to fix it properly..and this is just the tip of the iceberg. Other issues? No power seat so my back is getting demolished (had back surgery in 2009 after a 4 car accident that put me in the hospital for a good while) and I cant drive it for more than 30 minutes without my legs going numb-ish. Had the touch screen radio go out a couple times/ back up camera spazzed out (green screened) which was fun to watch for awhile and above all, the factory Hankook tires are ATROCIOUS on road noise and ride so prepare to be deaf when you get out of the car after a sizable drive. At this time I am stuck paying $500 a month for a leased car I don't want, that has depreciated like a ROCK (now worth $12K after my $26K+ purchase price), and one that has cemented my notion that I will NEVER buy another Hyundai product again (have had 2 so far). Currently shopping for a 2018/ 2019 Toyota Camry SE/ XSE (had a drive in one already and LOVED it). It may be a fun car to drive, but in some slightly reworked words of the great Jeremy Clarkson..."Hyundai can make a car as good as it can be....briefly".

The car looks very sharp, and the gas mileage constantly returns 30-40 mpg. The warranty is great too; unfortunately I have had to use it several times. Every one of the door locks have stopped working at different times, requiring eight separate trips to the dealer (one for initial diagnostics and to order the part, and one to replace the part). Things got so bad with the rear doors that they actually had to cut the interior door panels off to get the doors open. Without the warranty, this would have been a huge repair cost. Next, the heater was initially horrible. I could drive the car for an hour and the heater will still blast lukewarm air. Thermostat was replaced, coolant was flushed, etc. Finally this past fall I was able to get a computer update that magically fixed the heater. The ignition coils in this car also all had be replaced before 50k. This again required two separate trips for each coil. After the 2nd coil failed, Hyundai refused to change the remaining two coils at the same time, so when they went bad I changed them myself. I’m nearing the end of the bumper to bumper warranty and have zero intentions of keeping the car when the warranty expires. If you are looking at one of these cars, I would definitely do your research. The problems I experienced are quite common. An update a year after the original review. Car now has 77k miles. Past the bumper to bumper warranty. Had to replace all four ignition coils and replace spark plugs at 72k due to misfires again. Hyundai has extended the warranty for the door latches; my passenger rear door does not open from the inside or outside. My air conditioner has a leak inside the dash, so the vehicle is without air conditioning. I do not drive hard, nor fast. I’m a stickler for vehicle maintenance as well. I am not happy with how the vehicle has lasted and can not recommend anyone purchasing one that does not come with a warranty. It still gets terrific gas mileage, but if the vehicle market was not so bad I would not still be driving it. Update; 83k ignition coils started to fail again. Dealership had no way to open the rear door that was stuck and Hyundai refused to pay to have the interior door panel ripped apart and replaced. Received a notice from my insurance company that because of recent events regarding thefts, my premium was jumping. Scheduled the car for the theft recall, but unfortunately while shopping a few days before I was to bring the car in, some nice people decided to break into the vehicle and steal it before literally launching it off a bridge. I guess that was one way to solve this nightmare. I will never buy a Korean car again. Good luck to anyone that buys these things used. Expect to fix a lot of things that don’t normally break, or have some teenagers attempt to steal the car from videos they saw on TikTok.

Outstanding value at ACTUAL selling prices, which was ~US$3800 lower than Civic Touring in my case. Not including the extra $$$ the Honda would cost to extend the warranty to 5 years like the Hyundai. The Limited trim level (especially with options) seems like a much pricier car. LOTS of features unique in the class- like memory driver's seat, turning HID headlights (great feature!), and nifty 'welcome lights' in the door handle. Height adjustable passenger seat, which I really like. Ride and noise level very good for the class. OUTSTANDING brakes (which car magazines also write about). More opening feeling front cockpit than competitors. I'm 6'1" and have plenty of front leg room. Rear seat wider than Civic, but with a bit less fore-aft leg room. Fun to drive, although steering not quite as sharp as top-end Civic or Mazda 3. Despite 3 mo of Midwest winter potholes (horrible this year), the car has been rock solid with NO squeaks or rattles. Mileage beats EPA estimates, with an honest 40+mpg at 70+ on the highway. The only criticism I have is that power is mid-pack for the class. No drag racer, but easily keeps up with urban/suburban commuter traffic. Update at 8k miles- Still trouble free. Ave actual 37mpg in mixed driving (2/3 highway, 1/3 city). Update 13k miles- No issues. Still looks brand new in and out. Honest 40mpg highway. Near luxury car features in Limited trim have been great! Update 20k miles- Still trouble free & looking mint. Rides solid with NO squeaks or rattles. Latest Midwest highway trip 42-43mpg round trip at 70-75mpg. Update at 27k miles- Continues trouble-free. Solid ride. Limited's leather interior showing minimal wear- still looks showroom new. Mileage still easily beating EPA rating by 10%. Update at 50k miles- Replaced a coil recently to smooth idle a bit (literally 10min job (watched Youtube videos) with US$27 part), and replaced spark plugs (as I do ~50k as maintenance; plugs looked near new FWIW). Otherwise continues trouble-free. Engine uses NO oil. Interior still looks near-new, and Limited features (memory driver seat, adaptive cruise control, etc.) are unreal in this price class. ACTUAL highway mpg (miles/US gal used) ave 40+mpg (Midwest highways, no wind)- literally cheaper than charging a Tesla (Supercharger) on Midwest interstate trips!!! Update June 2025- Still running trouble-free. No better daily driver in its class. And super easy car for DIY maintenance.

It is a Hyundai and if you have Acura or Lexus expectations, you will be disappointed. If you are looking for a competent, well equipped vehicle that is suited for long and short drives then you won't be disappointed. I drive 1,000 miles a week and love the Elantra. It handles the highway with ease, greats great fuel economy, and is very comfortable for me. Cons: OEM Nexen tires on my limited edition Elantra SUCK. They are the worst tires I have ever ridden on and are ok in dry weather but dangerous in rain or snow. Power is a little anemic especially at 7000 feet where I live (we lose 20% horsepower at our altitude). Vehicle easily cruises at 85-90 mph once it attains speed. Engine is VERY quiet and so quiet that my wife has forgotten to shut it off a couple of times. Seats are comfortable for me so no complaints there. It could use a little more power but when I'm feeling the need for speed, I hop into my Santa Fe Sport 2.0turbo which is a sleeper. Great vehicle and I really like it and think the average buyer will be impressed.

I absolutely love this car. I've had two Elantras and a Sonata in the past but nothing more recent than 2011. This vehicle outclasses them all, as well as the Lancer I bought in 2015 for about the same price as I paid for this great car.

I've been driving the Elantra Eco for a little over 30 days. I felt in love the first time I drove it and each time since then. I look forward to the next time I get to drive it. Perhaps it ought to be noted I'm coming from a 1999 Camry to this 2017 model. I'm still playing catch up on the modern conveniences, but if anything it makes driving easier and for sure more fun. I did test drive the Kia Forte, Mazda 3, Honda Civic and Fit, Toyota Camry, Corolla and Yaris before I tried the Eco. I'm used to the roominess of a Camry and is about the only thing I'd downgrade on the Eco, but compared to all other cars I test drove, it's on par with those. Technology it is on par with Kia Forte and above all the others I test drove. Steering and road handling are very good to great. I think the only thing I'm noticing slight issue with is MPG. I'm currently averaging 33.5 mpg, but some of that is me idling the engine while I figure out the new tech. I also drive more in city than on highway. Whenever I go on highway now, I go into Sport mode and love the extra pickup. Anyway, the main reasons I picked this vehicle were: economical value, technology / CarPlay, mpg, comfort/handling, and reliability. Oh and I love the heated seats. I think this car delivers on all fronts and really would be surprised to see it not get Car of The Year type recognition

We have had 8 Hyundai’s in the last 12 years. Three of those have been 17’s limited edition. We love Hyundai’s and the 17’s have been particularly problem free. We had an issue with the driver’s side visor but that was easily remedied. My son was in an accident that totaled his 2017 Hyundai and we are getting ready to send him another. The other driver hit him almost head-on and we are grateful he came out of it with only bruises. We are buying another 17 for ourselves this month. 17 was a good year for Hyundai.

Update after owning 2 yrs 3 mos - Absolutely love my car. I put General Altima RT43s on at about 17000 miles and they've been awesome. I've adapted to the lack of usable storage. The trunk, though, has caused me some grief. The opening is so narrow that it's hard to get things in (other than grocery bags), although it's a nice size-trunk. I would still recommend this car to anyone, especially this Value Edition model. My earlier comments about the sunroof and backup camera are no longer an issue. The backup camera is fine, it just took getting used to and remembering to wipe it off when it rains or snows. I was just spoiled with the GT features..lol. A friend of mine bought an Elantra based on my love for this car and after 1.5 years, they are quite impressed with it over owning Corolla's for years. Update after owning nine months - I still love this car (still the love GT more, but...). I am impressed that I haven't had to replace two of the stock tires and I have 8,000 miles on them. Each of my other Elantra's needed all four new tires within a few thousand miles. My biggest complaint remains lack of storage. The door pockets are useless - if you put anything in them, good luck getting it out. The center console doesn't hold much because it's not deep enough as in other vehicles. I no longer run the car in ECO mode; Despite living in very hilly Pittsburgh terrain, I'm getting better gas mileage without it. One frustration remains that running in Sport mode does not stay set once you turn the car off. I've owned my car for a little over three months and this is my fourth leased Elantra (2011, 2012, 2013 GT and now this one). We also own a 2014 Sonata. The first thing (besides the body style) that I am impressed with over the 2011 & 2012 is the ride and handling of the car. I was a big fan of the 2011/2012 body style, but hated that the back end would "jump" over any little bump, despite different sets of tires. The 2017 is wonderful and feels much closer to the Sonata . I wish the Sport mode was set at the steering level like the GT and that it had a separate "ECO" button. Instead, I keep this one in ECO for gas mileage rather than Sport which handles better. My biggest complaint is with the storage (or lack thereof). The earlier versions, especially the GT, had massive amounts of storage with a deep closed middle compartment and wide areas along the bottom of the doors. The design of the new one is difficult - there is one little area which slants downward and is located behind the shifter and under the heating/ac controls. A USB and aux are smashed between two charging ports and every single time I try to put a cord in, I end up hitting the AC button or the defrost button. The large middle storage area is now only a few inches deep and doesn't hold much of anything; the side door pockets are almost worthless because you can't get your hand down into them to get anything out. I'm also having some trouble with the App screen where it freezes up for indefinite amounts of time (I have not yet taken it back to the dealer since I only have a little over 2K miles on it). The only way I can change the station is to use the up/down button on the steering wheel. My only other complaint is the heating system - it takes about 30 minutes to get warm and the air comes out of the defroster regardless of what I have selected. This makes wearing contacts impossible because it blows right in my eyes. Now that I've complained, let me say that my favorite feature is the notifications in the mirrors when a car is in my blind-spot or gets beside me. This is such a fantastic feature & should be standard in every car. Oops, I have one more small "whine" and that's the backup camera. In the GT, it was covered so I could always see out of it AND it was easy to read and accurate. The backup camera in this car needs wiped off daily, if it rains it's useless, and the accuracy is so bad that I can't depend on it. Let me add that I am not one who uses the camera's to backup, but rather as a guide. The outer "blue box" indicating that the car is straight can be misleading as well. I will say it's nice to finally get a new Elantra and not have to replace the tires within the first few thousand miles which I had to do on the others. I'm very grateful that there are not low profile tires on this model. So while I love this car and overall it's a fantastic value for the money, I would go back to my fully loaded GT if they could load it up without the low profile tires. What I wouldn't do for the panoramic sunroof again vs the little bitty sunroof I now have which, for some reason, even though it's closed, the display in the car will sometimes beep and show me that it's open. I feel I should also add that the little quirks are personal things for me and I would still recommend this car to everyone. Here's hoping for an awesome three years with it..

This is my sixth hyundai, three sonatas limited and the last three elantras limited. The technology in this 2017 is unbelievable that generally only is in a $50,000 vehicle. I also own a chevy Silverado ltz loaded and stickered for $52,000 and it still doesn't have all the toys my elantra has. GREAT CAR

What a difference 30 years makes

In 1986 Hyundai introduced the Excel. It was cheap. It came with automatic transmission, air conditioning and a radio. Basic transportation for $5k. They were made in Korea and I had to wait weeks to get one. What a piece of junk. That car almost put an end to Hyundai in the US. We take for granted reliable cars today but Hyundai was a junk car and that stigma lasts to this day. No more. First my personal opinion. I don't like Korean cars. They are disposable transportation appliances. As they age they become unreliable. So my daughter wants a new car. After learning on a beater. So we shop. I advised her that this is the kind of car you lease. It's a transportation appliance. So she leases this one and I have to say it's a nice car. Roomy and good on gas. Power everything. Quiet ride and engine. The radio connects to her iphone easily and it sounds good. It includes oil changes and washes too, A good deal. Now time will tell if it holds up to a 20 year old's hard driving.

Had this car as a rental for a week and loved it. Had a nice interior, very easy to match up Bluetooth, got good gas mileage, lots of tech, just a great small car all the way around. Loved it much more than the new Corolla and much more than the ugly Civic. The only thing I didn't care for was the road noise. It just seemed alot louder than my old worn out Corolla. If it weren't for that I might consider trading in for one.

Big Car Like Ride and Quietness

I travel alot and rent cars alot and I was truely amazed by ride comfort and quietness of this 2017 Elantra. On Portland, Oregon's coarse and inherently noisy freeway road surfaces the ride was remarkably free of excessive road noise and vibration - definately better than any other midsize car I have driven (Corolla, Sentra, Focus, etc). The front seats were larger and better padded than any of those other cars too. And the front seats felt roomier (I'm 6'2" and 250 lbs and did not feel cramped). The instrumental was more complete (gauge type tachometer, engine temp, fuel level). The engine is so well insulated against noise that it's barely audible when accelerating moderately around town. The car was easy to control at freeway speeds even during 30-45 mph crosswinds. The suspension soaks up sharp road bumps well without the uncomfortable stiffness of most new cars nowadays. I used to think the Toyota Corolla was the most comfortable and refined Asian midsize car, but the 2017 Elantra has clearly surpassed it - and by a long shot.

Decent car for the price

The acceleration with the turbo is jerky/cuts out. That is very annoying. Happens around 2000-3000rpm mainly. The consensus on forums is that its the way the car is tuned from the factory causes the wastegate dump to open and close to frequently causing the acceleration to feel like it drops out for a split second many times in a row. 7 speed gearbox is decent but shifts awkwardly at times. Exterior car looks great. Interior is awesome. Seats are comfy, dash layout is great. Dual AC works perfect. Ergonomics of everything fits well. The look and feel of the interior is very Audi-esque which I very much like. Passenger side door handle seems a little loose. Had the car for a month and a half. Overall satisfied. However would like the acceleration issues fixed. Entertainment system crashed and rebooted itself last night. Hopefully that doesn't become a regular thing.

2017 Elantra Limited . Originally I was seeking a SE model but found a dealer that gave me the Limited model for the same price I was going to pay for the SE . It's best to shop around until you get what you want. Make sure you get all the incentives available too, then dicker a bit.

I wanted an economical car with good gas mileage and would have gladly sacrificed for my daily commute of 100 miles round trip. I have exactly what I wanted but with all the extras and technology I never expected for the price. I love driving my car. It averages 32-33 MPG at the pump- the readout on the dash says 35-37 MPG average.

After owning 6 (5 new, 1 used) Prius hybrids in a row, I got a 2017 Elantra Eco that gets 43 to 48 mpg on interstate driving compared to 40 to 41 mpg on my 2012 Prius V wagon. I still use the Prius V around town but I prefer the Elantra for highway driving, where the Elantra is much quieter and has so much more power that makes the driving so effortless and comfortable. The Prius V is a bigger vehicle but it is underpowered for the highway and there is very little reserve power for passing or going up long uphill grades which makes driving more of a concentrated effort. The Elantra's small 1.4 liter engine has less power but the turbocharger gives more torque over a wide range that lets it outperform the normal Elantra 2 liter engine with more power. You can feel the pulling power of that torque in normal driving without the engine screaming at high rpm so you hear less engine noise as a result. I rented a 2017 Toyota Prius Three for a day and averaged 49.95 mpg over 470 miles. My Elantra Eco averaged 43.55 mpg over that same route. That is too small a difference to justify the $8000 premium for the Prius which was noisier than my Elantra and still underpowered for passing and long uphill climbs. Over 100000 miles, that is a saving of 294 gallons. Even at $5 per gallon, that is only a $1471 saving over 100000 miles. You would have to drive the Prius 543848 miles to break even with the Elantra Eco--that is to say that you would never recover the higher cost of the Prius by fuel savings over the Elantra Eco. My Elantra Eco was discounted $4000 below MSRP, a very common discount from Hyundai. I never received more than a token $1500 discount on one of my new Prius hybrids--I paid full retail for all the other new Prius hybrids. I am a retired petroleum geologist and I am convinced gasoline prices will not even come close to $5 per gallon in the next couple of decades because of the wealth of shale oil available in the US and around the world. If we do have to pay more than $5 per gallon, it will be because of currency collapse, when the world loses confidence in the dollar and commodities such as oil suddenly become more valuable. I do not plan to buy any more hybrid vehicles and electric vehicles will have to be comparable in price to gasoline powered vehicles to be of any interest. December 2018 update: Odometer 10548 miles, average 43.78 mpg, mostly highway driving. Low of 34.66 mpg for local driving (not stop and go commuting at high traffic rush hour), high of 59.21 mpg on a test of steady highway cruising at 50 mph and 54.29 mpg cruising at 65 mph on Interstate 5 in California when there were no accidents or heavy traffic slowdowns. This car continues to impress me, not only with the high fuel economy but also the quiet and effortless highway driving. There is more than ample emergency reserve power even in Eco drive mode--you just floor the accelerator and the transmission will downshift one, two, or even three gears in quick succession giving you about 20 mph speed increase in about 2 or 3 seconds all without any big roar from the engine. The Android Auto allows me to use my 4G phone as my GPS navigation system on the 7 inch screen on the Elantra's dashboard while also enjoying music streaming through my phone and playing through the Elantra's excellent speaker system. This is a real hidden gem of a car. December 2019 update: Odometer 13662, cumulative average 43.21 mpg. My wife has been using the car for local shopping trips of 5 to 10 miles and I let my daughter and her boyfriend drive to San Antonio so the last 3 fill ups averaged only mid 30s mpg. They obviously don't know how to drive for best fuel economy. Hyundai updated their Android Auto and my smartphone was not able to display on the car's touchscreen. I took the car in for normal service and told the service advisor about the Android Auto. He checked it out and agreed to the problem but surprised me by saying he ordered a new radio under warranty and about a week later he called to schedule the radio replacement. A free new radio to fix the Android Auto on a two and a half year old Hyundai--now that is what I call excellent warranty service by an automobile manufacturer. Hyundai keeps looking better and better to me. I am telling my daughter to seriously consider buying a Hyundai or Kia new vehicle when she's ready for one. December 2020 update: Odometer 15245. Very little driving due to Covid 19. Cumulative average: 42.3 mpg. No long road trips so mpg continues to drift lower. The car continues to impress with its quiet, smooth ride and effortless power for freeway driving. I still see no reason to ever go back to a hybrid vehicle, especially with my very low driving miles per year.

Purchased 7-16, 18000 miles to date. This sedan is considered rather base transportation, but it certainly is more than the price perception. Build quality is excellent, fit, finish is all could ask for, it's not a Lexus... Performance is good, engine rev's willingly, auto auto trans is terrific, and get's the most of the modest HP, Gas mileage is amazing! In town mileage is 34-35, mixed 38-40, trips/only fwy 44-47. Have taken 3 long vacation trips, lots of hilly passes, 47 MPG was the norm, fully loaded. Trans again offers three modes, all increasing response, eco, normal, sport. I use eco 95% of the time, plenty of power... I really like the body style, not too space ship, the style will endure for me.

A Solid "Assembled in USA" Car :D

I have had this Elantra now for a little over a year (Purchased it on 06/30), and I must say Hyundai has stepped up their game. I recall when they were disposable products alongside KIA. Understand that this is NOT a sports car, the steering is light, and I was not used to that at first. Additionally, the Drive Mode, one of them being "Sport" is a joke. I guess it is for those who have not driven cars w/better handling, and assume that this is what "Sport" is like? I tried it just once, and it felt like I had four flat tires. Besides that, what can I say other than it is your basic car with nice creature comforts. I have the SE w/the Popular Equipment Package, and that is all you need. It is probably the best bang for the buck, purchased it as a CPO for around $13K. Looking at the spec sheet, it comes off sounding like it is a reliable vehicle, w/a naturally aspirated 2.0 l 4-cylinder (Multiport Fuel Injection, no carbon deposits on the intake valves) coupled w/a 6-speed automatic (None of that CVT or DCT crap), in which it is, but of course, in my time of driving it, I had an incident that should be mentioned. I had a Cylinder 3 Misfire, and that was taken care of under warranty. Another issue, unrelated to the mechanics, was the paint. It started chipping on the hood. Fortunately, I got a touchup paint pen from the dealer, free of charge, and it was fixed. Now, that should not deter you from looking at this vehicle or other Hyundai products. In fact, my mother is looking to replace her '09 Murano w/a new Kona. So, looking at everything that this car offers, I am extremely happy, and you will be too. Oh, did I also mentioned that it was assembled in Alabama? Very nice!

One of my specs when car shopping was it NEEDS not less than 35 mpg. Since I bought this a month ago, I've been to Tn and back with a total mileage of 1950. Most fill up worked out at 40 mpg or more. My last fill generated 44 mpg. My previous car gave 27, so this is quite impressive. This has ample trunk space, great a/c and the front seats may not be fantastic, but they are very sufficient. I plan on owning this car for 20 years.

cheap reliable transportation without alot of unneeded extras. traded a 2015 mazda 6 for this, had some doubts but quickly overcame that problem. now onto the details. PROS: -sips gas with it 6 speed automatic,(7speed is also available on other models) which so far, i am getting nearly 35 mpg (A/C OFF) in the city. the transmission has 3 settings, standard ECO, and SPORT. ECO is what is getting the better mileage so far. -the ride is firm but not uncomfortable for what you are paying for. road noise is a bit of an issue on rough surfaces, otherwise things are pretty decent. -the interior is well appointed and this model has the basic package with a hands free phone radio. seating is comfortable and will not have your bum feeling like you sat on bricks for a week. -engine noise at idle is nearly inaudible, the small but capable 2.0 litre packs a punch and gets the job done but keep in mind it is a basic engine and you will not be winning lemans with it. CONS: update to some noise issues, the hubcaps rattle like crazy. i looked into thos a bit more and they are mere plastic slapped on the wheels without a tension ring to snug thing up. looks like i am going to be opting for some custom wheels. -rudimentary audio system, seems that 80% of the radio's sounds are through the front door mounted speakers and this is very obvious. i am not sure if this is normal or is the radio broken? i have a ticket open with dealership to get this addressed. -lack of disc brakes on ALL wheels. you get a sudden quick sinking to the rear when you let off the brakes. could this be due to the drums?? not sure... Now i wish hyundai would get with the program and offer standard discs all around on ALL MODELS and stop with 1930's technology. we pay alot for our hyundai why skimp on what matters?? -i mentioned road noise above in pros it is tolerable but on unmilled surfaces this gets annoying quickly. SUMMARY: the 2018 elantra SE is a good back and forth car for daily commutes. with hyundai's unbeatable 10/100,000 mile powertrain warranty you can not go wrong here. reliable to no end indeed. the vehicle is probably ok for a few short trips or quick escape for a weekend. if you are driving 2 hours or less. for first time financers this would be my choice, as well for young couples minus any children. OVERALL: i opt to purchase base models for price and longterm reliability. this was no different, i have no use for infotainment and an electronics overload headache. all that stuff is expensive to fix after warranty. hyundai wants too much money for what you are getting. this model of trim and appointments will lead to some disappointments, and quickly. the car has drum brakes in the rear and this should be discs. audio system is far reaching and left wanting. comfort is in reach but not what i would use for vacation. the price should be much lower on this model starting in mid $17,500.00 and NOT $20,800+ range. sorry hyundai but you overpriced this way too much. i stand by this comment after 9 months ownership, the car costs too muh for what you get even on a base trim level.

Paint on my 17 Elantra started to peel at less then a year old and now more panels are peelin at less then being 2 years old. Hyundai refuses to repair my defect because of being past 36000 miles. Even though the car started to have the problem well before that. Would not recommend purchasing a Hyundai product. I was forced to have the whole car stripped down to bare metal and repainted to make sure the vehicle would not continue to peel. Due to a flaw at the factory when the car was originally painted. Obviously Hyundai does not care about customer service and I will never recommend anyone to purchase a Hyundai product. No will I ever own another Hyundai product!

Don't buy unless live in Florida or Texas

If you live in Midwest be aware of the joke they call a heater. Not only can you operate the heat on low or 2nd to low. Even after it idles for 45 min still won't clear windows off sure can't use defrost and floor heat. Bad part is Hyundai is aware of this issue and admited it to us. But won't fix it instead told us it is up to there specs. Told us run it on low or second to low and use your seat warmer. That was from Hyundai Corp in which plain and simple doesn't care. Do not buy an Elantra unless you live in Arizona, California or other year around warm states. Their Corp no problem to big or small complaint is our job to help or resolve is a joke. Stay away. We had 5000 miles and luckily another dealer bought it back and we bought different car. Needless to say Hyundai Elantra is junk. Took a big hit financially when different dealer took it in trade for a new car. Frost bite not in our future. Hyundai customer service/corporate is a joke.

Extremely Impressive for a "Compact Economy Car"

Traded a 2014 Sonata SE with sport and tech packages, which was a great car, no problems for a 2017 Elantra Limited with Tech and Ultimate packages. This is a totally new Elantra from the 2016 and I think Hyundai hit a home run. Had our choice of blue/black or red/beige. The blue was a March 2016 man date with 95 miles and looked abused and demoed poorly with sluggish acceleration. The red/beige was a July 2016 man date with 8 miles and demoed great with spirited acceleration and looked beautiful, and was very clean and still had new car smell. So we went for the red. Very impressed with the quietness for such a small car (aircraft grade chassis adhesives.). Very impressive for a "compact economy car". First tank was 36 MPG. Great nav and entertainment on the sharp 8" display. Incredible Infinity audio system, best since our 2007 Nissan Rockford Fosgate. No CD, so we'll have to transfer our music. Beautiful interior with dash setup same as new Sonata. They separated the climate control display and outside temp display from the LCD, good move. Got the Continental tires instead of the Korean ones, don't know, but I'm assuming they're better. Drawbacks are steering is a little compact-ish, just a little stiff and pulls slightly side to side on uneven roads curvy roads. Also, the suspension, which is actually pretty firm, but it will waddle a little on the road and in parking lots with sudden direction changes. These are my only complaints, which are minor. And I'm comparing it to the Sonata with the sport package the drove like it was on rails. And the Elantra of course is more comfortable and quiet. Quality, fit and finish is impressive. Only exception was the RR door which is sticking out very very slightly on the latch side. The 1.6L engine runs great and has decent power, and has multi-point fuel injection, which is much preferable over direct injection (the 2.4 GDI Theta II direct injection on the Sonata has a recall on it). The 6 speed auto is extremely smooth. New exterior styling beautiful, toned down a bit and more European. Excellent nav, audio, interior (obviously some hard plastics), beautiful leather seats, blind spot monitoring, lane departure, adaptive cruise, auto dimming RV mirror with homelink, heated F&R seats, power driver's seat with 2 memory settings, rear view camera, sunroof, auto opening trunk, what can I say? After $6500 in rebates and discounts, it's like a mini luxury car for 21.5 K. Perfect for my five foot wife. Did immediately install a K&N air filter which gives you a couple of extra horse on the 4-banger. Here's hoping no serious recalls on the engine or anything else. These new cars are so high tech you never know.

I’m a big guy, over 6 foot, around 300 pounds, and this car has plenty of room. I bought the car new with 3000 miles, and a year and a half later I’m almost to 60,000 miles. I have had no problems, the car still averages between 36 and 38 miles per gallon, and it has all the technology I’d ever want. Update: The car now has over 130,000 miles and the only thing I have ever done is changed the tires and oil. Still gets well over 35 mpg and is comfortable. Update: still love it. Now close to 150k miles and has never been in the shop. Still gets 35+ mpg
