Gary and Sandy's Toy
We really love this car. Very reliable and comfortable. Get one, you'll love it!
Review
The Elantra is not a reliable car. It was at the dealer every other week for transmissino problems. The car has died on the highway and hyundai did nothing for me. I had to wait 2 hours for their tow truck to get me and they didn't even give me a loaner. I am very disapointed with this car.
I Makes a lot of sense
I love my Elantra! For the price you cannot find a vehicle with so many standard features. I also shopped the Honda Civic and when comparing apples to apples, as far a features were concerned. Plus the Warrenty! It made more sense to get the Elantra. I am getting great gas mileage (38 HWY). After 6 mos realized I do have rear cup holders.
Great college car
All around great car for college students or those on a budget. Outperforms a Civic and for thousands less.
Nice Auto
Was very worried about buying the Elantra giving the fact that Hyundai has had so may problems in the past. I am impressed. Have put 2k miles on the car so far and not the first problem, and the price was great, under 13k.
Pay now or Pay later
We bought the Elantra VE because it handled well on a test drive and we seemed to be getting more for our money, however over the past five years we have spent $8000 in maintenance and repairs. The key fobs wore out in less than two years rendering the alarm system useless. Every problem has been solved on the second visit, not on the first - so we have paid twice to have each problem fixed. The brakes always squeal, the rubber door seals eroded away in less than a year and the fuel system has been cleaned twice. We may have paid less for the Elantra than other 4-Door sedans, but we spent it on repairs over the past 5 years. Our advice - buy North American and pay the extra 5- 8 K up front.
Few repairs after five years
Originally, it cost $14,000...it now has over 87,000 miles, with only minor repairs. Original battery lasted me to the 80,000 mile point. The windshield got a crack from a thrown up rock on the highway at about the 60,000 mile point. Now, at my last inspection, the brakes barely passed, and I'll need to have them worked on soon, but not bad for this age and mileage. I would buy another of this model.
80%
I seem to have had the same experience as Mrs Barrett. Bought @ 25,000, currently @ 85,000. I run synthetic oil, keep up all maintenance religiously, and overall take care of my car. About 1000 miles ago (2 month.), I was driving home from work and my radiator reservoir tank blew a leak. It scared me. I was on cruise control late at night and suddenly I hear a loud POP and I see steam escaping out of the back of the car. The next day, and $500 later, I have a whole new radiator (reservoir tank alone cannot be replaced w/o changing the radiator!).
Awesome
I like everything About it. It's the best car for the money!
Nice
This is my second Elantra, I had a 1999 model, I am very please with the car, I would recommend to anyone. It is a very nice car, I feel this maker would eventually capture the US market based on warranty and quality.
Replacement Elantra
After losing my 2000 Elantra to a wreck in which it was totaled; safety features worked like a charm. We walked away with just bruses. We looked at other cars in this class and none could be had with these features even for alot more money. I had 96000 miles on the 2k Elantra and had no problems at all and it still ran like new until stupid me ran off the road and front- ended a telephone pole, witch I snapped off.
the best
no wonder the elantra is one of the best in its class, if not the best. It has lots of room, a powerful engine, a smooth ride and the best price, off course. I own a 2001 for almost two years, 30 k miles. I love it more every day. Thanks Hyundai
pleasantly suprised
There usually is a catch to unbelievably low sticker prices. Not this time. Although I expected the standard features and read the good reviews here before buying, I was pleasantly suprised by the steering and shock absorbsion. Even with the auto transmission, the car climbs very steep hills easily. More suprising was that it handles rough roads more comfortably than my American make (2001) minivan. Handles the curves very well and has good acceleration.
VERY DISAPPOINTED
I bought this car in 06 with only 15k miles on it so it was like brand new. I bought it because of the reputation of reliability, quality and gas mileage. But right at 50,000 miles in the middle of a road trip, my radiator suddenly cracked without warning and all of my coolant leaked out on the spot and my engine overheated. It all happened within 60 seconds at a stop light. I ended up stranded for 4 full days. Finally the dealership discovered the cracked radiator. No one can explain why that happened. I have kept impeccable care of the car. In fact I checked my coolant levels etc before I left on the trip. All was fine. It cost me over $1000 and now I am nervous to go on a trip!
100 percent satisfied
Had this car almost 2 years. Wonderful car. No problems, just change the oil. Rides and handles well. Great car for the money. Thousands less than Corola or Civic with equipment thsy do not supply, like traction control, heated outside mirrors, drivers seat fully adjustable for height, std side air bage, sunglass holder.
Matty's Elantra
Buying my 2002 Elantra was the best dicision I could have made! For a small car, you cannot compare the ride comfort, standard features, warranty and price to any other foreign small car. When I searched for my "perfect" new automobile I never would have thought Hyundai...The warranty attracted me, I drove one and was so impressed I wrote my check the moment my test drive was over! I have driven over 26,000 miles in the 9 months I have owned the Elantra and not once has it skipped a beat~! AND you cannot beat the warranty!
Reliable and Affordable
I bought this car new in 2003. It is the base model GLS. It is not fancy, it's only a 4.0 cylinder, but it is very reliable. It now has 105,000 miles and has not needed any major repairs and still running great! I'm looking to get a new vehicle and after the experience with this one, I'm thinking it will be another Hyundai. My husband bought a 2001 Ford Taurus in 2003, when I got my Hyundai and has had all types of problems with it.
GREAT
great car! what else can I say?
Great Car for A Great Price
We test drove 4 other vehicles (Mazda, Nissan, Ford, Honda) and this vehicle stood out best among those. We are very satisfied so far. We feel like we got in on a good deal while the price is still right. FOR THE PRICE ITS A STEAL!
2003 elentra
Car was purchased new. It can handle quite a lot: I had several huge people in my elentra when I struck the mother of all potholes traveling at a high rate of speed on the God forsaken streets of Brooklyn NY, I really thought at the very least there should have been casualties but to my amazement the car was not affected in any way. Another time my father had a huge accident drunk driving accident, it cost so many thousands to piece the car together everyone suggested the car should be scrapped yet the insurance carrier insisted it be repaired. To my amazement the car still rides well after massive cross- your finger type of repairs.
Whistleing Hyundai
I like my new car but it whistles in a crosswind on the highway. Dealer is still working on it. Other than that I am very happy with my Elantra.
A great value
$13,250 total out the door for '02 Elantra GLS! AT, Power everything, spoiler, CD, & moonroof. You can't beat that price for any other brand new car. Plus complete bumper to bumper warranty. This is my first inexpensive car and Hyundai exceeded my expectations. I got a great deal! Grab one too and share the joy.
bumper
this is the car that you can prve against crazy drivers, if they try to hit you for the bumper in the rear they gonna cry after that
Torture your BMW-owning friends
I've put 2,000 miles on this spirited five speed and couldn't be happier! The gearbox is smooth, the engine peppy, and the handling surprisingly agile. I'm 6'2" and fit comfortably in the leather seats. The stereo is very good and the instruments are laid out perfectly. My BMW 3-series owning friend hates it when our friends tell him how similar our cars appear to be!
Worth the wait
My wife and I have wanted an Elantra for four years, we finally bought a new 2003. It has a silky smooth 5 speed manual with 16 valve DOHC 2.0 engine, excellent comfort and ride. It replaces 1994 Hyundai Excel with 191,000 miles as the main car. I will be buying a replacement engine for the 1994. We love those Hyundai's, reliable, dependable and inexpensive to keep.
Best car in its class!!!
So far I have this car for 1 year and it has 35k miles. I haven't had one problem yet. i love this car!! When i see a civic or Corolla I just smile and push the gas pedal! You can't get a better deal at this price. It's a great car all around!
great ride
i average about 30,000 miles a year and i have not had any problems with this car other then a thermostat at 75000 miles and oxygen sensor at 70000 miles, i live in the north east where we average five to six feet of snow a year and i never have had a problem in the snow till start driving in about a foot of it, and that's with two rear tires that wont pass inspection now
good car bad service
been to shop twice and problem still exists
My Hyundai
I always used to drive Ford. Then when I needed a new car this was in my price range, I wasn't sure if I would like it at first. I am so glad I bought this car. With the price of gas, you can't beat the mileage this car gets and also how comfortable this car rides and drives. My parents would never buy a foreign car, but they fell in love with mine and they are looking in to it. I would definately buy another Hyundai.
Can't get more for the money
It's a new purchase, and after only a few days, I couldn't be more pleased! Everything is above my expectations.
BEST CAR I'VE EVR OWNED!!!!
I can honestly say that this is the best car I've ever owned. My 2001 Elantra has 35k miles on it and I haven't had one problem with it yet. This car runs like a dream. Everytime I get in it I just smile, knowing that I got the most bang for my buck. It's true, when you choose Hyundai you win!
Excellent value, very reliable
This has been an excellent car, the price and warranty are what got us looking at it initially. We've never owned an import before, but now I'd definitely buy another Hyundai. We get 32-34 mpg in town, 40+ hwy. Gasoline with very high ethanol content does reduce MPG somewhat, but it will do that on any car. The only expense other than regular maintenance items was a battery. Plenty of interior room, upholstery still looks like new. PW, PDL, A/C, power mirrors all standard. Dealership was very determined to keep customers satisfied. We are very pleased with our Hyundai.
Nice Bang for the Buck
This is a very attractive car that looks like those costing way out of it's price catagory. It is a very comfortable car, nice to drive on trips or just around town. Very roomy, for both front and rear seat passengers and great trunk space. A very nice small family car. Super warranty - good piece of mind and a car your are proud to pull up in. It just looks good and you will like the way you look and feel inside.
Love it!
I am delighted with the amount of car I got for the money. I shopped very carefully for 3 weeks and I know I would have had to pay at least $2,000 more for an equivalent car. I love the solid ride. Everything is high quality and well designed. This car was for my wife. I am going to buy another one for myself..........
Satisfied but not ecstatic
I had to have the starter replaced. This was covered under the 5 yr 60k warranty. The roadside assistance program works.
Not pretty but very fuel efficient!
I have had this car for a little over 2 years now. It has 98000 miles on it and have never had a single problem with the car. The gas mileage is excellent! I always average 31 mpg! I would recommend this car for anyone who doesn't want to spend a bunch of money with upkeep and gas!
New Elantra 2003
My 2003 elantra Having 60 series 15 Mich tires front and rear Stabilizers bars and 2.0 Liter engine Makes for quick and easy Back road driving. Yet with the 4 speed automatic trans turning the motor about 2200 rpms at about 65 mph has got to be more than 33 mpg highway mileage and having a ten year 100,000 mile warranty and 9990 price tag what else can you ask for.
Well worth it
This car was a second car for our family (two kids 1&3) Wife has a MPV Van (hate it) and I replaced my 300ZX Conv. as my main car. Everyone fits well in this car--for a small car lots of room, car seats--toys and the trunk holds must haves on a weekend trip. I drive the car 40 miles a day to work and have had no problems. I enjoy this car...and don't get killed when I make a payment.
Best Car Ever
Bought new out the door for 14K, pretty good. I've only done routine maintenance, the car has never had a single problem. Most trouble free car I've ever had. An unassuming simple car but a little nicer than "basic transport". Always gets 30+mpg. Even got 38mpg between Reno and Sacramento (all downhill LOL!) Commuted in Colorado going 40 miles each way from 5000ft to 8500ft elevation each time. Sub zero weather and never garaged. Someone ran a red light and hit the side from drivers door forward at 60mph - totaled it. My daughter who was driving and my son the passenger walked away with only bruises and sore muscles. Now looking for another Elantra to replace it.
Hyundia Elantra
Interior is very comfortable. All gauges are readable and the seats are the most comfortable I've used for long drives. During a trip from Virginia to Texas the vehicle produced around 36 mpg and with two children the back seats were roomy.
Car Has Poor Review
My transmission fell out of the vehicle 10,000 miles after i bought it. I have had nothing but problems with it. DO NOT BUY ONE...THEY SUCK.
Ultra-Reliable, Great Purchase
Bought this car in 2007, so it was 4 years old with about 70K kilometers on it. So far, there has been NO major work needed. This car starts immediately in -40 degree Celsius weather, a better track record than our 2005 Volks Jetta which needs to be boosted at least twice each winter. This car is pushed really hard with many road trips carrying full loads. Fuel economy is better than our other car, so we take this one on long road trips. There is no a/c, no power anything, but that means that any repair costs are much lower. We're having issues with the wiper motors right now, but we live spitting distance from freight trains, so there may be tons of dirt. Overall, I LOVE this car.
Real gem!
A peppy little car with lots of get up and go. Love all the places to put things. Love keyless entry, too. Good air and heat system. Disapointed in the 'too-much-work' tilt steering wheel mechanism, but otherwise very happy with this car.
What a great ride
I love my car!!! It drives great and I have never had a problem with it. The people at the dealership call to remind me when I am due for tune ups, oil changes, and regular checks. For the price this car is fabulous. It was definately a steal.
Wow
i love this car. I never dreamed i would drive a hyundai, but so far it is a great car! It is smooth, safe, comfortable and the warranty can't be beat.
Round Two
Wow! That is all I can think of when driving the new Hyundai. A comfortable ride for long distance driving that is easy on the gas but carries the power to accelerate to pass as well as handle any Interstate speed while being fuel efficient even with California smog equipment. The adjustable driver seat allows you to be comfortable any time. Outside, the car is just the right size for parking in tough places.Inside, the 2003 model is roomier than our older 2000 trade-in. Trading in the old Hyundai for a new one was not so easy. There wasn't anything wrong with it except we had put a lot of miles on it. In fact, we liked Hyundai so much we bought two of them this time!
Love It
Bought new in '03 and now has 117,000 on it and still runs and drives great. Have had zero problems other than the typical eating of tires and the head and tail light headaches. Has been the most reliable car I have ever owned. Also, hit a deer at 55 mph and the front end held up incredibly well, just replaced the grill and hood after about a month and looks and runs great still.
Good little car
$12,008 total price. $1,000 under invoice. I am very pleased with the quality and the features compared to the price. Plus a great warranty. Peppy little car. I've put 17,000 miles on it in 7 months over rock roads. I had two problems, a defective throttle sensor and 7 flat tires. The dealer repaired the sensor. No charge. The flat tires came from nails, probably due to the miles on rock roads. The gas milage could be better. I've averaged 24 mpg but it has been decreasing steadily. On recent tanks I've only been getting about 22mpg. For this size car I expected better. Overall I'm impressed. Would definitely consider other Hyundai models.
Great car for my daughter
Purchased car for my daughter with 61,000 miles. Car now has 138,00 miles and going strong. Car is dependable beyond expectations. Only routine maintenance has been done on car. Car is comfortable to drive with good acceleration for a 4 cylinder. Good gas mileage.
I love my car
I bought my car brand new and have had all required service completed as suggested. To date I have had no problems with my car. I have 84 thousand miles on it and hope it keeps on going. My next car will most likely be another Elantra or a Sonata depending on cost .
