Fishtailing

I had to brake for not just one but three deer standing in the road way at 3 am on a dry day, no ice or anything on the pavement. I applied the brakes firmly did not slam on the brakes in a panic mode. I applied gradual and firm pressure to the peddle. Result was the back end fishtailed erraticly and made me feel like I was going to lose control of the vehicle. I did not like the feeling at all. This car gets great mileage and on has 50,000 miles on it despite being a 2011. The back end of this car must be to light. I can think of no other reason. Why it would respond the way that it did.
