Collision Avoidance Random False Alarms
This is a great car overall, but what Honda tried to do with the Collision Avoidance system doesn't work. They should at least give you the option to turn it off because I have random false alarms on this system about every day - especially on two lane roads.
Bought a Pilot Elite over an Acura MDX
Top trim compares very well to Luxury branded SUV's. The seats are comfortable, the ride is quiet and predictable, braking smooth and the engine has plenty of power. Carplay works well and the volume knob is where it should be. The heated rear captains seats are nice but the heated steering wheel and ventilated front seats are amazing. 590 watt sound system is impressive. Lots of storage, good visibility. Have not used the collision avoidance features thankfully but the adaptive cruise works as advertised. The Pilot is understated luxury.

Rice crispy speakers and scary ACC
First time I've written a review, but it needs to be said. This is our third Honda and it will be our last. I will give the car two "pros" we love the space and ride quality of our Pilot. It is a great family vehicle. Good stops there! Bad: The collision warning system is TERRIBLE. It goes off under normal drive conditions all the time. BRAKE! BRAKE! and there is not another car in front of us. The speakers pop and crack all the time. If we use Apple car play the infotainment system freezes up, goes blank, restarts, etc. Got online and found that it is static build up on some of the components. Quick battery disconnect and it should resolve, NOPE! still happened. It is dreadful! Also, the adaptive cruise control is very "touchy". If you are approaching another car on the road the ACC will brake HARD! I've adjusted the spacing allowed between cars to give it more time to slow down and that did not help. Runs up and slams on the brakes. We traded in an 2016 Odyssey we bought new. It had its own laundry list of issues! I think Honda has lost a lot of its quality. Honda motors will last forever, but they better get the electronic systems under control. Rented a Nissan Pathfinder and I can tell you it was night and day difference in the ACC and infotainment system. Come on Honda!

Do you like Rice Krispies?
2020 Pilot Elite. SUV has an inherent electrical problem which causes a terrible Snap, Crackle, & Pop noise. This noise occurs regularly but is yet intermittent and even persists when radio is off! You simply cannot get away from it. We are about to take it to the local dealership for the FIFTH time!!! They don’t know what it is or how to fix it! Had my father speak to a Honda dealer in another state (NJ) and they also admitted they don’t know the fix. Complete trial and error process. Google the issue for yourself but stay away from this turd of a vehicle. 3/9/22: 2020 Elite has been at dealership for a approx combined 60 days. Popping & crackling EVEN WHEN RADIO IS OFF! Entir info system randomly going blank and coming back on. After 5th time, they Finally fixed it (I think). We’ll, not actually fixed, just minimized to when using Bluetooth. Was told this week there is no known fix…they’ll let me know!! Actually said “turn off Bluetooth on my phone”. Wow! No financial relief. When I asked about replacement vehicle they said “not going to happen.” It’ll be 2 year in May, 2022…about 18 months of electrical problems. I’ll never buy a Honda again. Stay away from this turd.
Brake sensor touchy
The brake light comes on sometimes when cars coming opposite direction not even in my lane or close then wheel vibrates. Took off the lane thing cause sometimes when moving over to another lane it would come on. Have to turn fan all way up to cool off the car when it’s 95 degrees outside. Steering feels loose. Other than that like the car.it is longer but not as wide as my 2009 pilot was.

Honda Pilot Touring
This is the roughest riding vehicle I have ever owned. If you like to ride in a wagon , it is your vehicle. Everything else is fine. Controls and seats are fine. It also have great breaks. I know. My wife has tried them out. Believe me. Wish I could be able to pick the family vehicle. For the ride I would buy a ton truck. Just as rough.

Do Not Buy
We purchased a new 2020 pilot touring edition in May of 2020 and have been experiencing problems since August of 2020. Loud cracking sound, screens going black, hands free not working, it is a nightmare. Even if you turn the system off the cracking continues because the car is on and the system has power. There is no way to make is stop! In August 2020 they completely rewired the audio, video and electrical and said it was fixed. In April 2021 it started, again. Now they tell me it is faulty connectors, but the connectors are on backorder. The fact that the sales teams are selling these cars, knowing about this major and possibly dangerous issue is a crime!

Everything we wanted
Has all the features you will need! Feels a little smaller than our 2012 Pilot but that is okay. If Honda would include better floor mats, a retractable cargo cover for the back, and cargo net it would be perfect.
Great suv
I took delivery of the Pilot 3 months ago and haven't driven it enough to get used to it until a recent trip to Washington DC. This is the first vehicle I've owned with drivers assistance and I can't believe how nice it is. The lane keep, and the radar cruise control make driving much easier. The Pilot feels very stable at highway speeds the ride is excellent. The visibility is one of the reasons I chose the Pilot, it has great seating position. What really blew me away was 32 MPG in a 8 passenger all wheel drive powerful vehicle at high speeds. Better than advertised. It's been 1 year and I couldn't be happier with the pilot. We towed a new camper we bought with no problems at all. The reverse camera with 3 different angles was perfect for backing up to the hitch and the Pilot was pre- wired for the brake controller.

My pilot has 4000 miles and all on a sudden hear noise from the entertainment system, rear entertainment system stopped workin, bluethoot doesn’t work. This is just so frustrating. How honda can sell vehicle with these known issue. Could anyone share your experience whether honda knows how to fix it. What honda had done for you? I am thinking to go on lemon route but not sure how?

Horrible !
I have the 2020 Honda Pilot black edition. From day one I have been complaining about electrical problems. No one believed me about the popping noise everything turns on electrical . I have been dealing with this for a year and a half . I bought this car in 2019 . Finally a few months ago Honda starting replaced the censors .but what a joke that was . It’s not the technicians fault it’s Honda’s ! Been their 3 times in the past 2 months and still does the same thing . This needs to be fixed ! They need to recap the whole damn car before someone gets seriously hurt ! I’m terrified my car will catch on fire with all this electrical problems
Snap, Crackle, Pop!
I purchased a 2020 Honda Pilot Elite a year ago. After having owned a Honda Accord for 12 years with NO problems, I wanted to replace it with a little larger Honda. After a few weeks, I began to regret my decision. Of course, it didn't handle like my Accord, but then it was a much larger car. On windy days, it feels like the wind will lift this car off the road. The phone link in the car is terrible. From the beginning, I was constantly having to repeat myself because people couldn't hear me. The real problem started about a month ago. I started to hear a crackling sound on the windshield that sounded like rocks hitting the windshield. Then, after a few weeks, the sound progressed to where It sounded like a popping noise started on one side of the windshield and went to the other side, then started all over again. The audio goes out and there is no sound coming from the radio or phone. My car has been at the service department of the Honda dealer who sold me this car going on 3 days now. They attempted to fix it, but called me at the end of the second day and told me it was still doing the same thing. After reading everything on this website, I am afraid it will never be fixed. Now that a year has passed, I can no longer use the lemon law. I am so disappointed with the amount of money I have spent on this car and the results I have gotten.

Really wanted to like this SUV...
I really wanted to love my Pilot. I have driven many different 3 row SUVs, and I thought I would give Honda a try as it had a reliable reputation. I will never buy a Honda again. I had this SUV in the shop no less than 10 times in the first year for random shaking, but also like many have mentioned, the screen and radio made popping noises continually. Took it in and said it was fixed, to only come back a few weeks later to having to fix it again. The whole speedometer went out many times. It is scary when you are driving on the highway and everything just blacks out for a few minutes. This is unacceptable. There was no long term fix from anyone at Honda. Ridiculous. Also, the "safety" features were way too sensitive and annoying. It beeped too much all the time for no reason. Passengers would comment about the beeping all the time. The safety features were super sensitive, but then realized there is no rear backup assist with beeping? Only noticed if a car is coming back. Doesn't beep if it's a person, child, or anything close to the vehicle. Traded it in before the warranty is up, so I am not stuck with this lemon. Just plain awful.

Don't buy this vehicle! Or, perhaps Hondas.
The Honda Sensing features are bloated unnecessary garbage. With fewer than 4 years on the vehicle, the forward-facing camera has failed, and the dealership wants $1,700 to replace and calibrate it. Of course they insist they can just disable it - because safety, right?! It's strong-armed robbery to force a feature on you that you don't want, make its completely unnecessary functions irrevocably hardwired, and then charge you a fortune when it inevitably fails. Also, the trim, in this case, the sun visors are of inferior quality. The driver's side visor has literally split in half along the seams and, of course, no longer does its job. ($300 for a new one.) I'd like to ditch the car, but no one's going to want it with these two relatively minor, but very expensive fixes hanging over their head. Thanks Honda!

Almost a luxury car
For the first time in my life my family and i have bought Honda; a Pilot, a Passport and an Accord. This has been in the last eight months. Having been somewhat of a car snob; BMW, Cadillac ,et-al, I'm convinced these three models are the best. Performance, handling, drive comfort, passenger comfort, electronics, and safety features....We love em. Our six year old granddaughter "loves the Pilot."

Love my 2020 Pilot EX-L
I love the exterior and interior of my Pilot. I compared it to other SUVs and this was the best fit for me. It’s smooth! So smooth while driving! Excellent ride! I don’t have use for the 3rd row, so I folded it flat. Plenty of room for everything from grocery’s to plants or bushes! I bought mine new several months ago. First new SUV I've ever had . I did have a used one in excellent condition, but a different make. Love the handling of the V6, as well as the ride. The safety features are great. I like that it can go into Econ mode- and the remote start is excellent . Gas mileage is also very good , esp for an SUV. The leather interior is plush and comfy and I've enjoyed every drive. Visibility is also very good! It has very nice features but not ones I don’t need or want. It accelerates perfectly - very quick pick up when changing lanes. Perfect also for New England weather. I just can’t say enough about this vehicle :) I’m so glad I bought it!
The Middle Child of SUVs
Overlooked, underappreciated yet solid and reliable. Not one of the "-est" SUVs... prettiest, coolest, sexiest, etc. Nor is it the ugliest, slowest, or clumsiest of the SUVs we considered. Like most Hondas, the 2020 Pilot is a highly reliable, modestly appointed, conservatively styled, people hauler. The flexibility and functionality are in the top 10% yet the design may be a bit homely or pedestrian compared to others. It's a B+ all day long, sometimes sneaking into the A- category. Among the highlights are the comfort and drivability -- the ride is not squishy, but also isn't bone-jarring or truck like. Capable in snow, and on the beach/sand. I'd assume modest offroad functionality as well, but we have not put ours to that test. There are plenty of creature comforts and gadgets to satisfy the techy and ADHD folks. And yet, those elements may be this vehicles weakest link. Start with the electronic gear selection. It's on the center console where the physical shift lever would traditionally be, but why? It breaks up a really usable area needlessly for some misguided attempt at emulating traditional mechanics. It could quite literally been anywhere. Then there's the selection buttons and process itself -- reverse is easy to get to, neutral and drive require you to look at the buttons to be sure you have the right one. Going from one to another (with your foot on the break pedal) should be an easy change, but the transmission, or the selection electronics, is sometimes slow to change or even confused and you find yourself not in any gear for a long moment. The safety functions are nice, but not intuitive with lane departure and other options that could be driver preferences hard to find or change easily. Last, the auto-restart function that shuts the engine down at redlights and stops may have its heart in the right place for conservation purposes, but it can be downright annoying in some conditions. Gratefully, that function selection is easily turned on or off with a center console button. Sadly, it must be overridden each time the car is started, since the reset to engage that function set to on by default. Power is plentiful and the fuel efficiency is decent. There is no noticeable economy improvement between econ mode in the on or off selection and there is also no noticeable gain by leaving the auto shutdown function engaged and untouched. Cosmetically the vehicle is pleasant enough to look at, with no real angles that are cringeworthy. A minor beef with the up-model package aluminum wheels is the ease of subjecting them to curb rash since the tire and wheel are virtually flush. Typically a rim offset and some tire bulge will expose the tires to a bit of cosmetic damage in a tussle with a curb during parallel parking but in this application the sidewall height and flush configuration put the rims right at normal curb height and primed for damage. A bit of extra attention solves the issue of course. Generally speaking this was a solid choice and we have no regrets for the time being. Obtaining it in 2020 and in the midst of a pandemic, we only put about a third to half our normal mileage on through the middle of 2021. Time will tell.

Sky Pilot
Drove 3,000 miles from Oregon to my home in Tennessee. I got 36 mpg through the flat country of Idaho, Utah, Wyoming and Nebraska, but the hills from there on to Tennessee brought it down to 30! Still great and am very pleased.

Not a true Honda quality
I have only owned Hondas due to their reliability this is a totally a waste of money. Bought a 2020 Black Edition pilot. Nothing but problems. Electrical, transmission, etc . Had to have it towed twice. Claimed they fixed it still have crackling and my radio goes out etc! Look for another vehicle! Honda will not stand by this issue either.

Exactly What I was looking For
I'd been watching for a while on Edmu8 knowing I was going to need a new vehicle soon. I had a clear idea of what I wanted. I checked regularly on Edmunds and considered a few vehicles but nothing ever checked ALL the boxes until finally the pilot that came up did. I'm so glad I was patiently waited and was vigilant at watching. I filled out a pre-qualification and things went smooth when I went to test drive it and I was able to bring it home that day! I'm a little over 2 weeks in and I'm still just thrilled with my new vehicle and the experience

Crackle pop and rattle ride on smalles bump.
Hard to believe this is Honda's top model. The whole body reverberates on uneven roads. Like all PILOT Elite the crackle that blacks out audio cannot be repaired after 5 times in shop. It guzzles gas but lacks power. Worst car I ever bought. Maybe only plus,it's roomy.
Comfortable and Reliable
2020 EX-L with 60,000 miles of trouble free driving. Expensive car battery. Other than that it drives like a Lexus and much better than my previous Highlander. Very disappointed with the new Pilot. EX-L 2023 model no sunroof and cheap seats. I highly recommend this generation. My wife is very pleased.

2020 Pilot Nightmare
Bought Pilot Brand new in 2020. Transmission began acting up with 17,xxxx miles. Eventually went out at 48,xxxx miles. It was replaced under warranty. Dealer replaced pressure switches, reprogrammed and even tried to charge me to drain and refill trans fluid while it was under warranty. Please note my sister and really good friend had their transmissions replaced around the same mileage. Fluid was changed at the 20,000 mile intervals religiously. ($750) Radio popping sound was fixed under warranty. Just had fuel pumped replaced under warranty after waiting on part for 1 1/2 years. The pilot would sometimes stall when pulling out from dead stop or fail to accelerate under load. I was hoping the fuel pump would address this issue but unfortunately it is still there. Yesterday (5/10/25) emission control light came on dash. After doing a lot of research, seems like there is no concrete way to address this. Some say it could be injectors while other say cat converters. The pilot has 78,000 miles. This is my first and last Honda, I do not want to start throwing expensive parts at it hoping for a fix. I am less than a month having it paid off. Lucky me.

Disappointing Pilot
This is actually my 3rd Pilot. The 2016 Pilot touring was great. I bought a new one in 2020. Three times the entire dashboard went blank. That is from one door to the other. Nothing, and driving on the Interstate. I didn't know if it was running or not!. After the 3rd time I took it to the dealer and refused to drive again. I got another 2020 that had been driven by the dealership and they showed me all the records on the car. No problems. Well the problems began. While on vacation the car started crackling. Took it to the nearest dealer and they said the could fix "the Old Crackling Problem." They did. But the navigation problem has never gone away. Whenever I use my android phone for navigation, it talks like a child. Whenever I took the car in, the service department just considered my a crazy old lady!!! After two years and on a dirt road I was able to record the voice!! Now they are blaming the phone!!! The next car will not be a Honda and after 4 Odysseys and 3 Pilots, I am going to more on. Before I buy another car I am going to check the service department out first.

Looks and drives great
Black Magic
We purchased the Black Edition trim on our Honda Pilot SUV. The vehicle has perforned flawlessly. Little amenities, like the heated steering wheel, and heated/cooled seats add to your comfort. With the back seats down, the storage capacity is terrific. Mileage is decent for a big vehicle— about 24 mpg on the road. Regular gas, too. Overall I would purchase this car again. Approaching 40,000 mikes, with no problems. A solid SUV.

Drivers seat gives me hip pain.
I would not recommend this vehicle to people that have back or hip problems.... UPDATE: No blind side protection unless the blinker is on for that side. Good ride, good brakes, mpg 17.5, color is a flaming dark red rated at 10 people love it. Seats could be more comfortable for us older folks. All and all a great car for the money.
Love it
Bought a used 2020 Honda Pilot EX-L in 2023. It had 95,000 miles on it as a corporate fleet vehicle. We love it so far. No issues with infotainment system, drives like a dream and gets up to 28 mpg highway with ECO turned on.

We love the build quality, smooth ride and quietness of our 2020 Pilot Elite. Four years ago we traded in out 1st Pilot with180,00 miles. We tried another brand for 4 years, but we were never really happy with it. Driving and riding in our new pilot puts a smile on our face. Almost a year later and we are still happy with our Pilot

2020 Honda Pilot Touring AWD
Pretty satisfied, so far. No problem and performing as expected. Very comfortable, not exactly sport car territory...
LAME LANE ASSIST
Three things I find a completely annoying about the Pilot. 1. Lane Assist: terrible following and doesn’t bring you back in the lane until you’re halfway out of it. Very jerky in comparison to other manufacturers in the same category. 2. Automatic Braking: Coming into a curve where there is a double yellow line I have had the brakes slammed on without my input numerous times, which is totally dangerous for the occupant(s) and for anyone following behind. 3. Center Console Armrest: There isn’t one, which leaves the left or right arm in the uncomfortable position of not knowing what to do. Swinging the armrest down removes room at the ribs, and a center console armrest would greatly increase storage capacity. Honda needs to bring this into the fold.
Great Pilot
Love the design of the vehicle! Lots of room! More than expected! Would definitely recommend the Pilot EX-L!

2nd Pilot-happy to be back
I had a 2004 Pilot (I loved it). Nothing but standard maintenance for 125,000 miles. I traded for a 2013 Chevy Traverse. The space in the Traverse with captains chairs was wonderful for a family of 5. However, it was a money pit, new transmission at 95,000 not under warranty and I’ve returned to a Pilot. So far I love my 2020 Pilot EX. Even moving down to a lower trim level we are pleased with it. Good visibility on the road and decent leg room in the 3rd row seats.

Safety is outstanding, perfect family vehicle
We've only had out 2020 pilot for 5 months and we absolutely love it! Extra roomy for road trips, lots of storage feature, and good on gas. We were recently in a bad accident and this vehicle protected our family. All of us walked away with minor bumps and bruises. I'd also like to call out that the vehicle was resilient against the impacted it sustained. Now I know that I made the right decision by purchasing my pilot.
