Best car we have ever had, love it
I have a 2001 Odyssey XL, bought in February of that year. Absolutely no problems. Friends bought a Chrysler minivan at same time and within two months had a list of minor things wrong to take to the dealer. I have not had one thing go wrong with the car. Nor found anything minor thing to be fixed.
Checking on the AT Cooler Recommendation
I tow a pop up at a bout 1900 - 2000 lbs. NO PROBLEMS SO FAR at 18,000 miles, but to follow up on the question below asking about a Honda recommendation to install AT and PS coolers on all Odysseys used for towing, I've sent e- mail and left voice mail with my Sales Rep at Sam Swope Honda (Louisville, Ky) to check this out. WILL UPDATE WHEN I RECEIVE A RESPONSE

I love it, excellent van
Excellent driving, the leather interior is pretty decent. Very good visiability from inside the vehicle. Lots of fun with its 240HP engine.
Odyssey
Great car fits and finish. Very firm seats and practical day to day usage. Perfect position to load and unload toddlers from middle seats.
The dealer can fix your doors...
The doors on this van are a known problem, but Honda had a fix for over a year now. If your dealer can't fix them, best find another dealer or complain to Honda. No need to suffer. Once problem with doors resolved, love this and would buy another (or maybe a Honda Pilot).
the very best minivan on the market
absolutley the best van for the money. has everything you need and nothing you dont.very affordable. honda stands for (h)have (o)one (n)never (d)drive (a)anyother !!!!!!!!
my 2002 odysey
overall I am happy with the vehicle. The consumer specs are wrong as far as fuel tank: it is 16 gal. as to the promised 20 gal. storage space and ease of use is great, rides nice. on trips with A/C on @80 mph look for 22 mpg in the city easy driving look for 20mpg. Honda service has a bit to be desired, no loaners unless they parts are on backorder 3 or more days.Do not get the extended warranty, it is not worth 1,600. they need to make the spare tire more accessible, it is also a small skinny, and a full size will not fit in the compartment. Overall I will take the Odyssey over any other minivan by far, if a van is your desire.
HIP VEHICLE BELIEVE IT OR NOT
A VERY POWERFUL ENGINE AND SMOOTH ON THE ROAD. A LITTLE ROUGH IN THE CITY; BUT FEELS TIGHT. CAPTAIN SECOND ROW SEATS KEEP MY TWO KIDS APART. SOMETHING I DIDN'T REALIZE WOULD BE AN ASSET.( NO PICKING ON EACH OTHER).
Best Minivan
Great Van!!!! It has everything you need, and alot of extras at no cost! I recommend it!!!!
GET A TOWN & COUNTRY
NOISE COMING DRIVERS SIDE WHEEL AREA WHEN WE DROVE HOME FROM DEALER
Engine discrepancie
The Engine or drive train has a Hum at 1475 to 1525 RPM. Most noticable at 50 MPH. I tried removing the top part of the Engine plastic enclosure. The hum is loader than road noise---Joe Moore
Most overrated and hyped car I've owned
We all love what we own, but this van is simply over rated and it's mostly hype. Odyssey is simply not built as well as what I thought or remembered about Honda cars. Don't trust everything you read and go test drive other brands and then maybe you won't make the same mistake as I have.
GREAT MINIVAN
I LOVE THIS MINIVAN. IT DRIVES BEAUTIFULLY AND WE HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH IT WHATSOEVER.I FIND IT VERY CONFORTABLE AND THE CAR DRIVES VERY SMOOTHLY.
Proven Safe
Had a 2001 EX, drove it EVERYWHERE - our "mobile living room"; even went up Pikes Peak with no difficulty. When another driver decided to take the whole engine compartment out - we walked away unscathed and directly into a 2002!! I especially love that at 5'2" tall, I can still get out of my Civic and into the Odyssey's driver seat and feel perfectly comfortable - not like I'm driving some huge lumbering sloth.
The best minivan on the planet
I took delivry of my 02 Honda Odyssey and since then I've enjoyed every feature on this thing. It's the best minivan ever Honda did a great job this time, I've never had a car with this much versatility, value, luxury, and quality as I've received on my Odyssey. I love this baby!!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy Mountain Man
The vehicle handles extremely well. Plenty of zip and amazingly quiet. Controls are well placed. Obviously a lot of thought to the interior which is roomy. Styling and color makes you proud to be driving it.
Odyssey Review
We got delivery of our '02 Odyssey EX w/navigation system and leather just a few months ago. Since then I have been happy. But I have also had some complaints: The leather is not as good as toyota's, the sliding doors are the worst peice of crap in the minivan. The EPA could be improved, an Onstar system and air compressor like on the Pontiac Montana, Wood grain panels would be nice, less road noise, bumps, rattles, and squeaks would be nice,Xenon ligts, and one last thing make the entertainment system and navigation syustem available on the same van.
Satisfied
My wife and I got the Odyssey a few weeks ago and our short term impression is great. The van has excellent power and is extremely quite. I have yet to use the DVD/Entertainment center, but expect good things.
ODY-REGRETS
PURCHASED AN EXX AND HAD TO REPLACE THE DRIVER'S SIDE STRUT BEFORE SALE WAS FINALIZED. I GUEST THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SIGNAL. THE FRONT SEATS ARE NOT VERY COMFORTABLE AND THE DRIVER'S SEAT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS NOT FASTENED WHEN MAKING A HARD TURN. VERY DISAPPOINTED THUS FAR. WHEN I HAVE TO START A LAUNDRY LIST 1 MONTH AFTER MAKING THE PURCHASE, ITS MAKES ME WONDER IF I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT THE TOWN & COUNTRY EX.
Really great van
We just love this van. We traded in a Mazda MPV for the Honda and it's night and day the difference. I used to HATE to drive the MPV anywhere but I like driving this Honda (I drive a BMW 740 as my daily driver). This Honda scoots along and I really like the intelligent transmission which anticipates what you are about to do and selects the right gear. The kids love the DVD player, no more complaints about long drives, we can't get them out of the car nowadays. Huge storage space behind the 3rd seat, I used to use have to use a roof storage system with the MPV, but now that's gathering dust in the garage.
Love my van!
I went from driving a 1995 Suburban to my new Odyssey, and I couldn't be happier with this van! It's like driving a sports car for moms. My two kids and all their stuff fit great. Even my husband, who is six-foot, two- inches tall, can fit in it comfortably.
New 2002 EXL Havasu Blue Odyssey
Finally, I decided to buy this Odyssey after waiting for more than 2 years because of dealer mark up over MSRP. (still paid $1,500 over MSRP). It is the best van in the market, and I am enjoyed every moment of driving it. 240 horses, and 5 speed automatic transmission are even better than previous years. However, the sound system is terrible, need some improvement on this one.
2002 Honda Odyssey
I bought this car for my wife to drive, and as it turns out I want to drive it all the time. The performance on this vehicle blows the competition away with its 240 horsepower, 5 speed transmission, and 4 wheel independent suspension. It is as fun to drive as any minivan gets. Put that together with the excellent crash test ratings and functional interior and you have a great minivan.
Hate paying markup
I hate paying $5,000 markup and having the salesmen tell me basically "go somewhere else if you don't want to pay it" I'm having regrets now. It's kinda noisy and I'm having trouble with the sliding doors. The service department is just as arrogant as the salespeople. "If you don't like our service go somewhere else". Great handling and great storage area. But I hate getting ripped off. Maybe next time I'll try another model.
Great Minivan
Best minivan mainly because of the fold down rear seat. Large cargo space and Honda reputation also helps. But the van is a great ride, although Honda needs to upgrade their EX Leather trim with more bells/whistles. Especially the stereo system (this really is mediocre at best).
Old Reliable
I just passed 116K on my 2002 Odyssey. Still on original engine and transmission. Not a fancy van by any means, but great for our family. My husband actually likes driving it almost as much as his Lexus LS. Considering it is a minivan, it has great handling and is very comfortable. Lots of cargo space. Mostly minor repair issues like batteries and the struts on the liftgate. Otherwise, a really solid car.
MISSING THE CREATURE COMFORTS
AFTER HAVING 3 CHRYSLER MINIVANS AND 2 TRANSMISSIONS REPLACED I DECIDED TO TRY A HONDA. I'M EXTREMELY PLEASED WITH THE HANDLING, AND I LIKE THE TRACTION CONTROL (LIVING IN THE COUNTRY IT'S A NICE FEATURE) BUT....IT'S NOISY...I HEAR EVERYTHING AND FEEL EVERYTHING. I FEEL IT LACKS THE "CREATURE COMFORTS" OF THE CHRYSLER.
Overrated
We purchased our 2001 EX Odyssey in Lompoc, CA. After 5 months of driving, the rear sliding doors began to act up. They would not close completely which caused the alarm to go off. We took it back to the dealer and did adjustments. This continued to happen several times and the dealer said I need to clean off the connections when this happens again. When you pay $28,000 for something you expect it to work properly. We are at the point now to have them remove the automatic sliding door feature and install manual doors.I contacted Honda Customer Service and they really did not have any suggestions to fix the matter.
honda
I just bought my 1st Honda for my family. So far, we are very happy with it. The only complain I got so far, is the quality. For 35k I expect almost a perfect minivan.
Perfectionist View Point
Just got back from trip to PA. Drove around 600 miles this weekend, ,absolutely love my Odyssey. It rides better than every other minivan I test drove. It handles like a luxury car. Best investment in a new vehicle. No dissaponments hear. The kids will love the dvd player and I can listen to cds at the same time. GREAT features all around. Engine has lots of power was able to cruise at 80MPH at only 2,000 RPMs on the TACH.
Great Minivan
We love it so far! Looking forward to many road trip ahead. Tons of room and comfort!
our second
This is our second Odyssey. It replaced an '00. This one doesn't penalize me when I drive it.. our other cars are a '99 Prelude SH and '01 Acura CL.
Could it get any better than this??!!
The comfort in this van is unbelievable!!! The room and space is excellent. It's made for every size person in mind. The heated seats are very nice for the cold weather.
Transmission replaced
It's OK. Nothing too great. We did need a new transmission after 7,000 miles. The ride is not so quiet or smooth. If I had to do it again, I would test drive more mini-vans.
Vastly over-rated
Do NOT buy this car! Too much cheap interior plastic that peels off, plastic bumper covers that scratch when you look cross-eyed at them. Electric doors that open/close when they want, not when you want. Un-padded carpeting will kill your knees when putting luggage in the back. Folding rear seat hooks stick out of sides and eliminate 4 inches of space for sliding things in. And a transmission that only lasts 120,000 miles!
Honda Van
Love this vehicle !
2002 - Odyssey exceeded my expectations
I've read some of the previous reviews. How can some of you rate a 5 then put in your review that it's the best minivan you've ever driven. Maybe the survey needs some idiot-proofing. Regardless the 240bhp engine, 5 speed automatic transmission, 11 cup holders, folding rear seat, and the huge array of standard features in the EX is incredible. I got mine for $1,500 under MSRP and absolutely love it!!!
Best available, can be better
I've been driving my Odyssey from past 3 months & have absolutely no complaints. Though looks huge, surprisingly rides very smoothly. Long drive can be tiring due to not-so- comfortable seats & unsupportive arm rest.
Loveda van but...
It's a great van. Lots of room...drives like a sedan...visibility is great...an SUV without a nose. However, I have had two small ~ problems. The van pulled to the right. Honda said it was the tires (Bridgestones). Bridgestone said it was the allignment. It said just fix it. Both were cooperative. Bridgeston replaced all the tires, but it still pulls??? Anyone else experience this?
VG Overall/a Few Annoying Deficiencies
Drivetrain seems tight, adequate power, gas mileage vg for this size vehicle. Holds resale value better than other vans. Handles very well for a van. Seems to be a very reliable product - I currently have 18,000 miles on it, with no significant defects.
The perfect minivan
Honda has done it !!! They have created the near perfect minivan. I love the duel electric sliding side doors, and the disapearing rear seat, leaving a flat floor. The 240hp motor just purrs at highway speeds, and has great pickup from a standing start, along with operating on regular unleaded fuel.
Best minivan
This is one of the best purchase I have ever made. I would like to recommend it to any misnivan prospectives.
Ultimate Family Truckster
My wife and I purchased our Odyssey to replace our reliable, yet underpowered '00 CR-V. We have one child and hope to add a couple more and the CR-V was already too small. The 240hp engine is excellent. The five speed shifts very smoothly and engine and road noise are kept to a minimum. These were both major issues we had with the CR-V. I didn't want a minivan but it's a great vehicle.
Love my Odyssey
I have owned this van for 4 yrs after buying it from my mother-in-law. Somebody backed into the van, then pulled forward and backed into it again, and the only problem I have with paint is some peeling of clear cover on the driver's door probably due to shoddy repair because the rest of the van is perfect. I have NEVER had a problem with the transmission and have never been stranded while driving a Honda. While highway driving and the wind is in the right direction, there is a howl that would make a dog cry. The horn is nice and LOUD and shrill (especially nice when people pull out in front of you and their window is down).
What a buy?
I love this minivan than anything. It is a combination of luxury, power, and design. I trade-in my 2001 honda accord v6 with this minivan, I was a little upset when I did that but now I am 100% convinced, I did the best thing after driving this vehilce for over 8 months now.
Great though not perfect van
What makes a vehicle a great one? It lives up to what it says in reality. It could be quality, reliability, comfortness, power, design functions, appearance, fuel economy, performance (all kinds), etc. This Odyssey is doing really well in almost all of the above characters, except the fuel economy, powertrain noise, and interior material quality. Overall, it's a great van with value though not perfect.
Good All-Around Van
I've driven every mini-van offered in the U.S. (something like 16 of them) and this was the best overall. High horsepower coupled with standard features that are packages everywhere else and that great 3rd row magic seat scored high with me. I'm hoping that it will prove the Honda hype about reliability. One thing that's nice to know is that practically every car, truck, or van on the planet depreciates faster than this one.
Very Convenient Minivan
I have driven other minivans from ford and chrysler. While chrysler minivans are fun to drive, this is the most comforatble and convenient minivan. The major compliant I have is that it is too noisy and I'm having lot of trouble with the sliding doors.
Super Van
Never thought I'd own a minivan and I fought this one but I relented, now I don't know how life is possible without one. Typical excellent Honda design and quality. Very quick and agile especially considering how large it is. My daughter loves the DVD--just wish she'd watch something besides Winnie the Pooh.
Best Minivan
I have heard, as well as read that the Honda Odyssey is by far the best minivan available. After much research and many test drives on other minivans, I have found all of this to be true. Without a doubt, the Honda Odyssey is the minivan benchmark. Anybody considering a minivan purchase owes it to themselves to check out the Odyssey.
