LONG-Term Honda Insight

Mine is a 2000 Insight purchased in March, 2000. It now has 116,000 miles on the odometer and has been absolutely trouble free. I mean, not even as much as a single lightbulb has ever needed replacement. In brief, it is the very best car I have ever owned by a VERY wide margin, and I've owned a few, including a big Mercedes, two BMWs, two Volvos, an Alfa Romeo, and other nice cars. It's a spectacular long-distance cruiser -- I once went over 800 miles actually nonstop, and only stopped then because I had to pee -- I still had gasoline left in the 10.6 gal tank. It's quiet and comfy and is the only car I've ever owned where I don't need the seat all the way back. I absolutely LOVE it!

2004 Insight review.

For economy, the only car I feel could beat the Insight would be an electric car recharged with solar panels. Its aerodynamics makes it almost uneffected by wind for safety as well as energy efficiency. Only drawback is that it carries onlt 2 people, but the space is very ample and comfortable for those 2 people. I know I can race any car on the road to the end of our tanks, and win. The place where it wins the nicest is at the pump at every fillup.

The fuel economy is incredible! Even though the car is rated at only 87hp, it has plenty of power. Unfortunately, it is not equipped with cruise control, to which I have become accustomed. Also, rear visibility has been sacrificed in the interest of styling.

This is a vehicle worthy of your disposable dollars. I have an automatic and the only disappointing item about this vehicle is that the fuel estimates should be revised with each number going down by 10 (highway/City). Even then it is a great buy. I purchased based on the epa estimates. They were close but not quite right. I would but it again and again. I am funding my 401k catch up contribution with the gas savings that I am receiving. I cant imagine why anyone would pay such ridiculous prices for gas anymore. I guess it was because we didnt have a choice. Now we do.

Hybrids KICK GAS

Much more fun than we ever imagined. Quick and fast. Cruises on highway at 70-90 with no problem other than having to occasionaly downshift. Concentrating on milage we get upper 60mpg's. Driving fast low 50's. In city, Washington DC, no option other than drive aggressively we get low 40's. Great city car because nimble and quick. When supersized, dark colored SUV's tend to get aggressive it's a simple matter to leave them in the rear view mirror with a smile. Many people think the car is all electric and most don't know it gets up to 70 mpg and can go 115 mph. Commercial media, the one source most Americans use for news, does a horrible job of informing the public.

This tiny car draws comments everywhere. I have found it responsive and reliable, reasonably comfortable, and large enough to go camping with, but it won't carry a boat or bike. You have to learn to drive it carefully to get the best gas mileage. Push it too hard too long and the mileage goes down. But it will go fast and far with no complaints. Have taken it to Maine from the Midwest, have taken a passenger on a trip, have gone ten thousand four hundred fift three miles since I bought it 3 months ago. Frankly, I love it. Wish it had cruise control, but it has everything else I need.

Living in the Denver, CO area gas prices aren't that cheap. I own two sports cars and needed a everyday driver for my long drives to work. I got talked into the Civic hybrid and I love it death. It doesn't have a whole lot of power, especially for somebody like me who is in to horsepower and torque like in my Acura Integra Type-R and Honda Prelude Type- SH. But those sports cars are gas gugglers and for my daily driver I enjoy the 50 miles to the gallon that I get out of my Civic Hybrid. A very good car!

Mine is a 2000. I bought this car in March, 2000, and it now has 102,000 miles on it. It's been utterly reliable -- nothing has gone wrong. I have replaced the brake pads, tires, and windshield wiper blades only once, and the only problem it ever had is that the passenger side power door lock once failed ($130 repair). I have NEVER needed to replace a light bulb - the lack of vibration in this car makes everything last longer. I've owned two BMWs, an S-Class Mercedes, two Volvos, an Alfa, and other nice cars, but the Honda Insight is, by a very wide margin, the BEST CAR I HAVE EVER OWNED, period.

Purchased in Oct., 2000. Currently over 50,000 trouble free miles. Mileage depending on driving conditions: +50 mpg in Michigan winter to +60 mpg in summer overall. Have gotten +85 mpg when trying in summer and as low as +47 mpg above 80 mph highway or cold winter mornings. Excellent acceleration. Tight sports car like steering and suspension. Highly recommended.

So I'm on Sunset racing a Ferrari F40 and weaving in and out of rally cars last summer, and heads were turning and watching the 5 speed kick it, and I realized I had a sporty, head turning ride for relative peanuts. When I later saw said Ferrari with its hood up and smoke pouring out at the staion at PCH and Sunset, I realized I really do have the best of both worlds, minus the headaches.

I have owned my Insight for 3 years and it has saved me over $4000 in fuel costs so far. It's a stylish little car with plenty of room for 2 sets of golf clubs in its roomy trunk. I need a trunk more than a back seat anyway. If you are the only passenger in your car more than 50% of the time, you should be driving an Insight. The fuel and space you are wasting is costing you $$! You don't have to plug in the battery or do any type of special maintenance on this car. It has plenty of power, unless you're running the A/C and traveling uphill. It's easier than you think. Go for it.

this is the perfect car with only one possible exception; it is only a two seater. But Honda has resolved that problem too- by making this technology available in the Civic. For the single commuter though, nothing will ever compete with the Insight, nothing! Do you hear me, Prius owners? The Prius has some "neat" options, but if it's economy you're looking for, keyless ignition doesn't mean squat. Don't get me wrong, Toyota makes the second best vehicles in the world!

I have driven my Insite two times from California to the East Coast and return. One troble is keeping it down to the speed limit. When I look down we frequently are driving much to fast. One the desert I have had it over a hundered. Driving freeway 8 to Alpine from San Diego the trafic moves above eighty-five. The grade is steep and in the honda I keep having to slow down. The other car we use is a corvett on the 0 to eighty will lay you back in the seat which the honda won't. However the honda coners as well as it does. It is flat on corners and takes them as well as the corvett.

I love my car. I drive the L.A. freeways daily, at 65 to 80 MPH [when the traffic will allow] so I get about 50 MPG. I combed the web for info and I got what I expected. I have had a 52 Chevy, 65 VW Bug, Toyota Corolla, and Honda Civic. This is the only car that makes me smile when I see it and drive it. Thanks Honda.

My Insight is actually a 2001 model with about 80,000 miles. Original tires, clutch. New brakes. I have had no difficulty. It is a great car. I am 6'4" and weigh about 230. SUV's are for people with small, well, you know... Smart cars from Europe are great as well, but not available in US. If people in the US would use more efficient cars, they wouldn't "need" to sent their kids overseas to get killed. Why not think about that EVERY time you fill your tank.

The Mercedes 280 SE is probably the most beautiful car ever but too heavy for engine but still knocks people away...ALWAYS used in movies whenever they want a classy car for stars even today.Mine original.

This has been a fun car to drive, and full of nice surprises. To begin with, I purchased the Insight because of it's advanced hybrid technology. I knew it achieved great fuel milage, but I didn't know it was such a great handling auto, and so much fun to drive. I've been on a few long trips and the car is very comfortable all day long. Lot's of people ask about the auto whenever I fuel up (which isn't very often).

I have owned this car for almost three years and buying it was probably the best decision I've ever made. It is reliable, inexpensive and easy to maintain. But you have to have a sense of humor to drive it! I've found that driving does have other rewards, however. The police only warn me when I am stopped for speeding because they are surprised that a hybrid is so speedy. And I never have to wait long at busy intersections because people are extraordinarily courteous and curious when you drive a hybrid.

My wife and I traded in a full size Nissan king cab truck and have saved thousands of dollars in fuel alone. This car is very fun to drive, as long as your not trying to blow away people at stop lights. You have to be very smart when driving this car, as it is battery assisted and you will need to rely on the battery for true fuel savings. Remember, the battery acts like an overdrive, it helps you get up to speed and helps you out with the fuel that you would normally use to get up to cruising speed. This is one of the best cars we have ever owned, if not the best. Just keep in mind, the way you drive this car will directly impact your fuel savings, and winter driving can be quite hairy.

it is efficient, economic and serves my purpose: even though I drive 150 miles per day, I only fill up once a week as opposed to my civic I had to fill every other day. And I only have an 11 gallon tank. This thing gets recharged when I go down hill, when I downshift and when I brake. Never have to plug the babe in. it has good pick-up when needed, just as a regular car without a turbo. It is peppier than the small Subaru I use to have, that’s for sure.

There are the rest and then there is the insight that is the best. The insight inside and out makes other cars look old and outdated. Heads will turn when you drive this car. Be prepared to answer alot of questions. It looks and drives like no other car on the road. So why has Honda been so quite about this great car? Are they still losing money for every insight they sell. Well get out the word, this car is worth every dollar.

This car is awsome. It gets fantastic mileage as well as excellent performance.. one would never guess it's a 3 cylinder, 1000CC powerplant. You can figure on getting gas mileage that is in many cases double what a large displacement motorcycle (Harley, Honda, BMW) is getting. That plus A/C, stereo system and power everything make this a vehicle that can be driven in any weather. And finally, there's the tax deduction that the Federal govt. will allow you for the purchase of this car.... what's not to like?

For two years I wanted an Insight. I talked myself out of it because it was a two seater. I decided to buy a Think electric car instead, but Ford stopped that one. Last Summer (2003) I decided to go for it. I ordered an Insight and it took 6 months for it to arrive. Then, I got the car. It is the best car ever made. On trips I regularly exceed 80 mpg. It handles like a sports car. It goes around corners like water thru a hose as they say. And it's roomy inside. Just my favorite car I've ever owned. Everything works great.

My Insight is by far the best car I've ever owned and if I buy another car, it is sure to be an Insight. Yes, it only holds two people, but 95% of my driving doesn't require a larger capacity. If it does, I borrow my husband's 5-passenger car. The Insight's reliability is perfect; in my 20,000 miles of driving I have yet to have anything fail; I get raves from just about everyone who sees the car. Its performance is flawless.

This is my commute car. I drive 65 miles to and from work, down hill in the morning, no traffic, 55-60 miles all the way. I can get up to 92 miles a gallon especially following a flat bed truck on the flat. There is a speed between 53 and 58 at which the car seems to be running on electric only and charge at same time... amazing. My first 43,000 miles averages 60.8m/g. The 1200 miles from my house to Los Abgeles and back where with a 73m/g average. I have kept track of the mileage at each fillup and every 1000 miles if you need proof. I drove the car at 103 m/h down hill... it zooms. Only problem: leaky struts in back (covered by waranty).

This has been an excellent commuting car for my wife and I. We drive 125 miles round trip everyday. Unlike many of the Prius reviews, we are actually exceeding the DOT Mileage rating. In the winter time we were getting 60 to 62 mpg. With the warmer weather we are now achieveing 68 to 72 mpg. We found that the mileage was a little less for the first 3000 miles, as stated by the dealer, but after that break in period it has been an excellent performer. The car operates as any other car, a little sluggish on the long uphill home, we use third gear instead of fourth on our regular Honda.

This is by far the best car I ever drove. It handles great, goes as fast as I want, and gets over 80 mpg on the highway. It has plenty of cargo space. Just driving it and seeing the effect of my formerly heavy left foot on the mileage has transformed my driving from the usual "get there first" attitude to "get there in my own sweet time", and I enjoy driving much more now without the usual rush. If you're man enough to let go of beating everyone else you'll love it.

My Insight gets 68 mpg and it's peppy and fun to drive. It has an enormous head turning quotient and many people who see the car express interest and highly positive feelings about it. Some people have even thanked me that I cared enough about the environment to buy it.

I bought the second insight my Honda dealer received in 2000 and I now have driven it 37,253 miles. Over that time and distance it has averaged 68.6 miles per gallon, and gradually rising! I live on a hill about 400' higher than the surrounding more or less level terrain in a suburban bed-room area. The best mileage I ever logged on a single leg was 93 miles per gallon on a 120 mile trip with few hills. I was on an Interstate and stayed in the right lane and drove at the truckers speed limit - 55 miles per hour. My wife's car is a new Honda Accord Hybrid because we have been so satisfied with the 2 seater. She needs more capacity for occasional trips with friends, heavier loads, etc.

I bought my 2000 Honda Insight in April 2001. In 2000, Honda was the first to put hybrids on the road. My Insight has motored 69,200 miles with a lifetime gas consumption of 62.5 miles per gallon (mpg). The interior is comfortable and stylish. The unique seat supports my double-herniated back even on the long haul drives. The car is fun, generating curiosity and honks of approval. Plus, with 62.5 mpg and that nifty tax write off of $1500, I can feel good about the environment, global situations, and my own finances. It's just plain nice!

2000 honda insight has been the best performing car I have ever owned. I get 65 to 72 MPG on it. I drove from Louisville KY to Chicago round trip on 9 gallon of gas. That's good. Now one better. We drove from Louisville,Ky to BattleCreek, MI round trip on 16 gallon. 70 mpg that trip. As Tony the tiget said "that's great." I have hit the 102,400 milage mark. SATISFIED? I CAN NOT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THIS CAR. I am a driven commercial for HONDA. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES AND SO MUCH FUN. My service work has been done by Honda Cars of Clarksville,Indiana.I can't say enough for this dealership. Service Execellance bar none. EXCELLENT TEAM. NUFF SAID.
