CR-V, Love it!

Sporty driving, economical travel, and I am so happy with this Honda CR-V. I had been driving a very comfortable 2007 Honda Pilot, that had been trouble-free at nearly 96K miles, but decided to downsize and to get better gas mileage, as well as to get the now-available safety features. This CR-V is so peppy I have to watch it, or I am going to get a speeding ticket! It is also much easier to fit into a parking space in our town which still has a lot street parking that requires parallel parking. The good visibility makes parallel parking it easy. I have had this auto 4 years, and I like more than ever especially now with its good gas mileage. UPDATE: Have had this Honda CR-V since I bought it new in 2018 and have never had any issues with it. Do the usual oil changes and tire rotations. It gets good gas mileage, averaging around 30 mpg, more or less according to highway vs. town driving. The only reason I would trade this auto is to get a newer one just like it.

Exactly what I expected

Exactly what I thought I was getting. The only things I wish Honda would improve is adding ventilated seats and a gap in the bottom spoke on the steering wheel for those of us who like to have our hand in the center of the bottom part on the steering wheel. Averaging 30 mpg and that's with city driving and 80-ish interstate driving.

Aging is not easy but the Honda CRV makes the adjustment smoother. Easy in/out, comfortable seating, legroom front/back, easy access to trunk at a good height, lighted dash, easy to read dash, plenty of storage options, tech made easy, doors open fully so easy for family/dog :) to get in and be buckled into carseat.

Honda CR-V is a quality choice

Gas mileage is the real deal. Getting easily over 30mpg combined city/highway. We keep it in the economy mode all the time, which doesn't have any zip at all. Ride is very comfortable. Visibility is OK. Radio is just OK quality. Might want to upgrade this if sound quality matters. Fantastic turn radius. Very comfortable seating in the front and back. Cargo area is roomy.

Update, 1/16/19: So I’m at a full stop at a stop sign last month when a car skids into my driver’s side door. $4500 damage, including new door and rocker panel; repairs are taking three weeks. Currently driving a rental Ford Focus and can’t wait to get back into my CR-V! 6000 miles on the vehicle. Still basically love it in every way! Biggest surprise: mileage around town of 30 to 32 in Econ mode. Passengers have commented about the upscale interior and comfort, and how much room there is in the rear seat. Glad I got the NAV. Beautiful display. I like to see where I am so I use it a lot. I use Waze when needed. So much easier to input destination on Waze or Google Maps than on the native Garmin GPS. Apple CarPlay is nice, but I often don’t plug in my phone, especially for short trips. I’m guessing the next generation of CRV will allow for a Bluetooth connection and get rid of the USB cord. Bottom line: After nine months, I still love the vehicle, I’m very happy that I bought it (after months of research), and I believe it is a very fair value for the money. PS The car that struck mine was a subcompact. Damage to both vehicles was pretty severe, but the impact was not sufficient to trigger the side airbag. My driver’s side door took the brunt of the hit and was knocked out of alignment. But I basically felt nothing inside the vehicle and was not injured at all. Congratulations, Honda! Please pass along my thanks to your designers and engineers. Love the way it looks (black exterior with black leather interior). Love the way it rides, handles and performs. Love that it is quiet and feels so solid (CVT much quieter than the CVT in the Rogue I rented for two weeks before buying the CRV). Love the safety features, including the adaptive cruise control. (How do you even do that?). Love the back seats (friends sitting in the back can't believe how much room and comfort it offers). Love the gas mileage so far (around town - driving in econ mode - I'm averaging 32 mph. That's so good that I'm not yet prepared to say it's accurate. (I opted for the slightly better gas mileage of FWD after researching AWD on-line and deciding I didn't need it). How is it even possible to design and produce a 190-hp, turbo SUV that weighs 3300 pounds, goes from 0 to 60 in 7.6 seconds, is this comfortable, quiet and roomy, has this much storage space (76 sq. ft. with back seats down so I can fit my bike in back with no problems), and still get such good mileage on regular gasoline? And I love the many little thoughtful things I can do, like program the doors to lock automatically when I exit the vehicle without having to press the key fob (too much trouble :-)) and being able to view turn-by-turn directions on the dash directly in front of me as I drive. This vehicle is just stunningly good at every level. No wonder it's at or near the top of virtually every reviewer's "top compact SUV" list. (Example: U.S. News: #1 (out of 18 vehicles) in Compact SUVs ; #1 (out of 35) in SUVs with Two Rows; #1 (out of 49) in Crossover SUVs). And for those of you who haven't bought a new car for a few years, you're in for a treat, with Apple Carplay (or Google Play) and all of the new safety technology. Leaving my Jetta after nine years and moving into this CRV is like dying and going to heaven. Love the ease of entry and visibility from the higher seating position. No wonder buyers are abandoning sedans and moving into SUVs. Anyway, this one is a marvel and driving places is fun again. It actually has made my life better, sort of like when I got my first computer in the 80's or my first iPhone in June 2007. So... just in case you missed it... I love my CRV! :-)

A happy lease for an active senior

E. S. Nathans, 09/14/2018
2018 Honda CR-V EX 4dr SUV AWD (1.5L 4cyl Turbo CVT)
11 of 12 people found this review helpful

The CR-V EX, with its Honda Sensing suite of active safety features, is a great lease value: roomy, comfortable for driver and passengers alike, with ample cargo space for transporting everything from groceries to pets to grandchildren and their gear. The wide-angle and cross-traffic warning features of the Honda Sensing system are an especially welcome addition for drivers who frequent parking lots or need frequently to back out into heavily trafficked streets. Similarly, the blind spot warning feature is an excellent addition. Front collision warning and braking proved their worth the second day after I took delivery on the car, when a truck stopped abruptly in front of my at a construction site. The 2018 info/entertainment system link are intuitive and reliable for simple needs and a joy to visiting granchildren with more ambitious demands. The speakers are perhaps the weakest element of the entertainment functions, but Bluetooth and Android interfaces are easy. Controls and settings for the Honda Sensing features are straightforward, and dashboard controls are easy to use. The glove box seems larger than on previous years' models, and the design of the front center console has been significantly improved. The EX touch screen is intuitive but continues to tempt the driver momentarily to take eyes off the road -- an obvious danger of all such systems. Interior finishes may be a weakness over the long term: Honda has used lighter colored fabrics in door trim and on the center console cover; it remains to be seen whether repeated Scotchgard treatments can provide protection against dirt and stains. As a lessor, I use relatively inexpensive seatcovers on both front and rear and custom brand-name floor mats in both front and rear seats and the cargo area. Honda has included as standard on the EX trim the cargo cover which was formerly a pricey add-on. Driver-side seat adjustments offer ample options, and front driver visibility is excellent. Rear seat headrests do compromise the driver's rear vision to the degree that it is tempting to pull especially the rear center headrest. All in all, I'm delighted with my decision to lease the 2018 EX. Down the road, I wish Honda offered a longer basic warranty; a longer warranty would likely influence my decision about purchasing the vehicle at the end of my three year lease

EDMUND'S DIDN'T GET THIS ONE RIGHT!!!

While buying a new car can be stressful, checking with all resources is always best to do. I rely on Edmunds and Consumer Reports before buying any new vehicle. This time both agencies dropped the ball. I was very, very close to buying a Honda CRV when I came upon a forum at the bottom of the page in the Edmunds online site. What an eye opening I got reading about all the trouble with gas in the oil of the 2017, 2018 and the 2019 are still not known. To verify my information I called the the Honda Headquarters to find out if this information was true. In fact, it is all true and an investigation is still going on. This may only be a problem in Cold States I was told (but there are plenty of cold sates in the US). Funny, while at the Honda dealer twice, this trouble was never mentioned (I was looking at both 2018 and 2019 models). I even point blank asked the sales dealer and he said he knew nothing about it. SORRY, not HONDA, good thing I did my homework. Happy to say I am the proud owner of my 3rd Subaru Forester.

Not what I thought....

I am a past owner of Honda vehicles including a CR-V. I currently drive a Subaru Forester and am looking to upgrade to a SUV model with a driver assistance system so am looking to upgrade to a new Forester with Eyesight but also wanted to give the Honda CR-V a try. First of all, the CR-V looks nice on the outside and the interior is very well done with high quality materials and comfortable seats. The test drive, however, didn't convince me to go back to Honda. The car is smooth and mostly quiet but the powertrain leaves a lot to be desired. I felt completely disconnected from the vehicle...kind of a numb feeling. The acceleration was good only if you really aggressively pressed the pedal which felt mushy...it did not have a "snappy" response at all...it felt heavy. The car handles well but I can't say that I at all enjoyed driving it...compared to my Forester, it doesn't hold a candle in the drive and handling feel. My Subaru feels substantial, stable, roomy with an "open, airy" feeling and the acceleration with the normally aspirated 2.5i engine is surprisingly peppy - the visibility all around is second to none in the Forester. The interior materials of the CR-V beats the Subaru for sure - the Forester's interior is functional and simple but is not "sharp looking" like the CR-V but the Forester has a much more spacious feel - but if the driving experience is what you are looking for, I'd pay close attention if you test the CR-V and I'd certainly give the Subaru Forester a spin also for comparison...it is also notable that the Subaru Eyesight system is highly rated compared to Honda's Honda Sensing system and among most all other manufactures - it sets the standard...another thing to think about...

Optional Backup Sensors - Save Your Money

Recently the Honda optional backup sensors were installed on my 2018 CR-V Touring AWD. When the install was complete I could not hear the beeps from the sensors. Granted by earing is not the best but I can clearly hear all the other sensors warning beeps on CRV such as the cross-traffic warning beeps, open door, blind side etc. The warning for backups sensor come a small device install in back corner of the SUV. The warning beeps should use the auto speakers like the other warnings. Also there is no indicator light in back for closeness ...yellow, red etc. Opened ticket on Honda owner's webpage regarding the poor engineering of the backup sensors ... no response so far.

2018 HONDA CRV - WOW

I have been leasing Toyota RAV4's 2012 and 29015. Both cases were LE models. I was very satisfied with both vehicles, traded both leases in before 20,000 miles. So this time I decided to make a change, because the lights on the 2018 RAV4 LE were absolutely terrible. Could hardly see while driving at night and were a safety hazard. Thank goodness after reading many complaints about the headlights, I decided to take a nighttime test drive. Scared me to no end - do not need a car at my age that I can drive only in the daytime. Next I decided to test drive a Honda CRV LX, I cannot say enough good things about this vehicle. I leased the LX model because of all the complaints the Turbo engines higher models were having with oil/gas dilution. The CRV LX fits all my needs and runs just beautiful. It has enough benefits in this model to satisfy a 70's age driver. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone looking for a comfortable, smooth and enjoyable ride.

Honda is turning into Oldsmobile

After having the computer reprogrammed my garage smelled like gasoline the next morning. Now it is being parked outside. The a/c didn’t work so the dealer removed some refrigerant. A/c still doesn’t work. The day after a snow fall I drove to the store. I could not get out of the drivers side door even though it was unlocked. I had to climb over the center console to exit thru the passenger door. I do not know if everyone can exit this way so I think this is a design flaw. The computer was reprogrammed due to gasoline in the oil pan. Although Honda thinks this is normal gasoline is not a lubricant and it dilutes the . Which will eventually destroy the engine. It was suggested by Honda that I don’t take short trips so the gas in the oil pan will evaporate. So that tells me I should buy a electric car to supplement my driving. The Honda turbo’s were recalled in China all 300000 of them. The main problem is everyone at Honda has a bad attitude towards their customers. After owning many Honda’s for decades this the last Honda for my family and friends. I got rid of this crv with 4000 on the odometer. Being a senior citizen with a heart problem that was happy day.

After many months of researching I purchased a 2018 CRV with all wheel drive. I drive a minimum of 100 miles per day with my job and was looking for a safe vehicle, good in snow with good fuel economy. My last vehicle was a 2008 Toyota Highlander that still runs great with 254,000 miles on it, I am an experienced driver and have driven many different SUVs over my lifetime. Here is what I have found so far: 1.) ApplePlay - system does not default back to source after receiving a call. 2.) If phone is plugged in, using handsfree speaking- this will cut out often. 3.) Safety sensors fail when you need them most. Driving in just the smallest amounts of snow they stop working. Message on dash reads "Some Driver Assist Systems Cannot Operate: Radar Obstructed. The most maddening part of this if you stop the car, without performing any action such as clearing any debris from front grill, it will reset. 4.) Poor handling in snow/ice. I am going to replace the OEM tires that have 22,000 miles on them in an effort to make this vehicle perform better, if this does not help I am selling this vehicle. 5.) I have not experienced the fuel in oil issue yet, but fear it may be occurring as MPG is dropping. Do not buy this vehicle- you will regret it.

I love my new CRV 2018 The fit and finish looks sharp. The pickup is much better than my 2013 model-along with gas mileage. I do wish HONDA would offer a class to use new technology for us baby boomers . Slowly but surely I am learning about my car. I do miss my CD player-HONDA should still offer that option!

Had this car since Nov 2017 and I don't know if I got lucky with a bad car or it they are all horrible. It only has 12,500 miles and i'm on my 5th maintenance routine at 12,000 miles, mind you I only drive about 5-8 miles a day locally within the city. I was told an oil change is needed every 3,500 to 5,000 with these cars, but it wastes a lot of gas I fill it up once a week and that's on ECO mode. Then last week I had this scare because the automatic braking system literally went off with no other cars around and stopped on its own. I did some research and it appears these models 2017-2018 have had this issue and yet HONDA failed to issue a recall. Totally not safe especially since I have two younger children. Like what if it decides to brake suddenly on the freeway? I had a Toyota Scion xB for 10 years and never had any issues, but when we had another child we needed a bigger car hense get a HONDA they're reliable they said...Looking to get into a different vehicle very soon!

1.5 turbo is a nightmare

Somehow this engine never heats up when idling, only after driving several miles. What good is the remote start when you come out and the car is ice cold and the windows frozen? It can sit running in the driveway for 30 minutes or more and the temp Gage doesn't budge off zero bars. It's supposed to be programmed to bring the cabin to about 72 degrees but it can't. Even in relatively mild 40 degree weather. In really cold weather <20 F it's useless. Once driven 3-5 miles the heater works and the engine temp is fine so the thermostat and heater core does work. Also had to bring it in for the gas in the oil non-recall recall. Even an idiot knows that gas should not be in the oil. It's hard to believe that Honda engineers completely blew it on this design. Who makes a car in 2018 that can't be warmed up and injects gasoline past the rings into the crankcase? I've also now contacted two Honda dealers in my area to see if they have any fix for the "no heat at idle" issue. They both told me that it is normal for this model to not heat up until you start driving, and that there is nothing that can be fixed. It's how it's designed to operate! Good Grief! The computer re-programming and AC control unit replacement as part of the "non recall/recall" for the "gas in the oil" issue was just recently performed. I'm waiting to see if that was effective. If not, then I believe this engine is on borrowed time and the car will need to be traded or sold. I've had quite a few Hondas in the past and they have been good. This will be the last one I'm afraid. Too bad - I really like everything else about the car.

Went into dealer intending to buy an Odyssey. We both decided that as an everyday vehicle it was too large. The CR-V was just about right. I traded an Acura RDX so this felt just like home. My only two complaints are lethargic acceleration and a noisy engine.

Don't buy the CRV car with the Turbo Engine

MarkA, 04/09/2018

This car is underpowered. It drives like the most lame car you can imagine. If you are a dad or mom with kids and want a safe car this is acceptable as it is safe. If you want a car that you actually want to drive and have fun in when going up a mountain road, don't buy this car. Note, I don't need a sports car, just reasonable power. Yes if you punch it, it will whine and kick in the turbo and get you moving but even then it will feel wrong. It will deliver the mileage because it drives so unresponsively that you will indeed get that mileage you claim. I am sad that Honda once again shot itself in the foot. This lame engine will soon be failing and having all kinds of problems by year 5. Then, at that time, you will be stuck with the poor little engine that was overextended. The only CRV you can confidently buy and enjoy is the non-turbo 2.4L engine CRV LX. You will notice how much better that car will drive than the tiny winy whiney 1.5L turbo. If you do want the CRV LX which is a great car, you get very few advanced safety features, no Car Play or CRV interior pizzaz. Honda will more than likely regret this decision to go with this engine. They keep making obvious mistakes. We own a great 2006 CRV that had no mechanical issues ever, and drives better than a 2018 CRV. Honda has had some issues over 10 years: terrible transmissions in the Odyssey, oil burning engines in the Accord line, but this turbo engine is really bad choice for the last good car they had in their lineup. Undoubtably this was for Cafe regulations on mileage. They really need to find a better solution - maybe there is none except for a CRV hybrid or electric version. Maybe offer the EX, EX-L with a 2.4 L engine as an option and watch their sales go up again.

I'm not a person that buys a lot of new cars, but a combination of my previous car of 15 years finally giving out and an unexpected windfall allowed me to buy new. My previous car was a 2002 honda civic LX and it served me faithfully even though I was pretty terrible about doing scheduled maintenance. This put honda at the top of my list as I was looking for new cars. I also was tired of not having any hauling space so I decided to make the jump to a CR-V. I've driven the car for almost 2 weeks now and here are the highs & lows. POSITIVE: amazing acceleration, good control, very luxurious inside, cool safety features, awesome gadgets (infotainment), ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) is awesome and works VERY well NEGATIVE: large rearward blind spots (compared to previous car), gas mileage not what they advertised (I am getting combined 24mpg even though I believe they claimed 24 city/30 highway ... my mileage is about a 50/50 split and I get 24), Active LKAS (Lane Keep ASsist) does not work as well as I expected (unable to stay in lane for even gentle turns on highway). Note that passively the car is very good about knowing when you are drifting out of lane, it just seems unable to make actual corrections that are anything but extremely slight curves. On the whole I am very pleased with my purchase, I'm hoping this car can last me 15 years like my last one!

I purchased my 2018 CR-V Touring AWD in February, 2018. A few weeks after purchase, we got a decent snow storm in our area. The vehicle surprisingly handled very well with the Manufacturer Installed tires. The AWD system worked flawlessly and didn't skip a beat. I have had some issues with a rattle coming from the front end when going over a bump in the road. Dealer has tried to diagnose 3 times and nothing has come up or "looked odd". Seems to get worse in extreme humidity or wet weather. The comfort is very good for driving long distances. Entertainment system is decent as well. The full LED headlights are very bright and light up the road almost as if it were daytime. Braking on the vehicle with the HondaSense system is very good! Almost had an accident last week when a driver made an illegal left turn on a red light. Car stopped and all safety features seemed to work very well. Test drove a GMC Terrain Denali AWD as well. The GMC was a little more, but had more features. Stuck with Honda since we have owned them for several years.

Cr-v problems

Researching the 2017-2019 crv’s I kept hearing about gasoline in the engine oil issues. I called Honda of North America-they told me yes, they are aware of the problem but have no remedy and it’s not a safety issue. I asked if gas fumes in the cabin was a safety issue, they responded saying they were looking at it. We we’re going to purchase a crv but not now-Honda is dragging its feet and getting away with a potentially life threatening problem

This is our 3d Honda and probably our last. Completely dissatisfied - so much so we considering an early lease pay off just to get rid of it. Some of the issues: poor MPG - our best in eco mode with gentle acceleration is 23 and 27 MPG in town and highway, respectively, well below the advertised 28 and 30 MPG; short range - total about 320 miles, which makes the vehicle unsuitable for long road trips in remote areas; poor technology - on two occasions an incoming call that was not answered locked up the hands-free phone system necessitating stopping and restarting to reactivate the system; Dash board display lacks a brightness control and in some situations is excessively bright; poor instructions - as an example, the owner's guide does not teach how to erase phone numbers from the system. Bottom line - we do NOT recommend buying this car.

I have just received my car 5 days ago, the driver seat cushion is too short and not comfortable at all. Every day im trying to find a good position to drive and cant reach that! When you try to adjust the seat by tilting it, it only raises the front part which makes more pressure on the low back portion. What’s more depressing in the touring model they have ignored a very small details, while in dark both, indicator knob and wipers aren’t illuminated so at night you won’t be able to see them at all :(. When you backup and the car on the R gear the side mirrors aren’t tilting downwards. With a fully loaded car, these tiny issues are really a shame not to be there.

I have spent the last two decades owning SUV's made by other manufacturers like Infiniti, Mercedes, BWM and Toyota. I was looking for a solid SUV that would be perfect for year round driving in Chicago. After weeks of solid research, I was led to the award winning 2018 CR-V. It had everything I was looking for. Very recently, it handled a Chicago snowstorm without a problem. This vehicle is actually really fun to drive in the city compared to my previous SUV - but by no means it is a speed demon (that is definitely is NOT). Engine power is on the low end, but again, this wasn't a factor for me this time around because of the extreme traffic and where driving mostly in a city where you can rarely drive more than a few blocks without needing to stop at a light or stop sign. I don't care how fast a car can take me from the end of one city block to another. Aside from the lack of [unneeded] horsepower, it handles great and the steering is effortless and very responsive. My elderly parents can finally get in and out without a problem with ample headroom (they have never been this happy getting in / out any of my previous cars). Others have mentioned concerns with issues like seat comfort and Bluetooth connectivity. Let me say this: For me, the CR-V is gets a full five stars for comfort. This car is much more comfortable to sit in than my previous "luxury" SUV which costs more than twice the cost of the CR-V. In terms of the bluetooth feature, while I have the minimal technology package in the LX, my Pixel 3 always connects automatically and after at least a hundred calls to date while driving this car, I haven't had a single problem with the connection or quality of my calls over Bluetooth. This car is near perfect but has a few trivial flaws. The flaws that I have noticed thus far after five months in is that, yes, the back up camera is very low quality to the point where it is useless. The other flaw is that the hood is not aligned properly in that there is a noticeable gap between the driver side hood and the quarter panel (this is not the case with the passenger side!). I tried adjusting the rubber stoppers and this did not help at all. Also, I felt the headlights were a bit dim and replaced them with aftermarket LED headlamps for about $50 total - issue solved and the headlights are now bright white and are much more effective at lighting the road. Despite foregoing the bells and whistles of the higher end model (with features I really don't use because I don't need technology to keep me alert and I don't mind turning a key versus pressing a button) I highly recommend this car to anyone who wants a proven, solid and reliable value that basically serves almost every conceivable driving need. Lastly, I bought the CR-V in Black Pearl with black interior I think this vehicle looks really good!

major flaw/fuel in oil in 2018....be careful

2018 Honda CR-V EX-L 4dr SUV AWD (1.5L 4cyl Turbo CVT)
5 of 5 people found this review helpful

there is a history of these cars having an issue with oil dilution/fuel in the oil resulting in the oil reservoir being overfilled. this issue started on my 2018 at 2600 miles. My dealership has been awesome in trying to take care of this issue. Honda Corp had a software update for the northern states, this was performed on my car in Dec. 2 weeks ago I had a strong fuel smell in my cabin (I thought I smelled it in January but ignored it because I had just had the software update/fix and was trying to be optimistic, and definitely had fuel in my oil which had caused it to be overfilled....again. unfortunately, my dealership was not authorized to do anything for me per Honda Corp and the lady I spoke with at Honda Corp was condescending and rude. Since that phone call, my dealership has intervened and have spoken to their district service manager. I had my pcv replaced along with my fuel injectors and every filter including cabin. I just got the car back yesterday and am holding my breath. I truly love this car and previously owned a 2010 that I drove for 195,000 miles without any issues. if you google Honda crv oil dilution you will see what a widespread problem this is. China actually stopped manufacturing the CRV for over 3 months due to this issue and Honda Canada has extended the warranty to 6 years with no mileage limit.....I am sure they know the engines can't possibly last as long with this ongoing issue. it is very frustrating to say the least. I have filed a complaint with my state attorney general and they encouraged me to file a lemon law dispute. So, be mindful and check your oil often. I have never gone longer than 3000 miles between oil changes....

Started buying CRV EX model in 2002, this is our 7th one and far and away the best one ever. It's bigger, quieter, more comfortable, more powerful, more fun to drive and has all the technology I'll ever need. Really impressed with front seat comfort and smooth exceleration. Looked at Rogue, Escape, 2018 RDX and chose the CRV EX. RDX was nice as well but 5 year old platform couldn't compete with CRV.

Car has a little drift to it when you put it in park, have been told this is normal. The air conditioner seems to have trouble maintaining the temp in the car. The middle console design leaves a lot to be desired. And if you get the factory trunk tray, the lid for the spare tire compartment needs to stay in the lower position, other wise your tray will slid around. Other than that runs like a champ. I was really disappointed with the wear on the original tires, had to replace at 15,000 miles. For the price you pay for the car you would think it would come with a better tire. I hope that the rest of the car holds up better than the factory installed tires.

At last count, I believe I've owned 26 cars. It seems like about 30% of the people I know own a CRV so, after 2 bad experiences with new Subarus, I decided to test-drive a CRV. Now I know why I see so many of these -- I love the vehicle !! One test-drive is all it took: it's actually very quick, however, just poking around town, the motor never works hard and the transmission is very smooth. It's a CVT so you never feel it shift and it accelerates without fuss. Floor it, and the car accelerates quickly with a muted growl from under the hood. I've driven about 18,000 miles since I bought the car and I've averaging just over 30 mpg in mixed driving. I've seen a high of 36 mpg and a low of 28 mpg. I think the vehicle is the perfect size: I can haul 3 passengers but don't feel wasteful when I'm driving myself. I can also fit a bicycle standing up in the back if I remove the front wheel. I love the split fold-down rear seats. And I really like the features like the smart cruise control, automatic emergency braking and lane-keeping sensor. It's just a brilliant, perfect vehicle: plenty of power, good fuel economy, just the right size for almost any use and the AWD gets me where I need to go in the snow. This is easily my favorite car of any that I've owned. UPDATED & FINAL REVIEW: This is an update of my 2018 CRV EX awd. I bought it on 10/10/18 and drove it about 27,800 miles. I've owned a few cars in my time and this was my favorite. There was seemingly nothing that it couldn't do -- it had plenty of power, the transmission was extremely smooth, there was plenty of room inside and I loved the versatile seating options. I travel a lot for work and while I have the option to get a vehicle to drive, I opt to drive my own vehicle because I'm more familiar with it than anything else. Anyway, the AWD took me anywhere I needed to go and over the time that I owned the car, it averaged just a tick above 31 mpg (I track the mileage of every vehicle I own on fuelly.com). A lot of my driving is on the highway but a good amount is also suburban and some stop-and-go mixed in as well. It was a very difficult decision to trade my CRV in but I did because I've always wanted a small pickup truck. So I got a new 2020 Tacoma TRD Off Road. If a person could only have one vehicle, a CRV should be at the top of the list. I loved the amount of space inside but it still managed to be small and maneuverable and easy to fit into small parking spaces. The tech features were excellent: I loved the lane departure and the adaptive cruise control and used these features all the time. I also enjoyed the AWD: no buttons or levers, no thinking, just drive. There were no problems with my car: there was a recall for oil dilution, however, the car ran flawlessly and other than oil changes, there were no service needs. In short, just a great car. It was a tough decision to trade it in but I couldn't stop thinking about the Tacoma and, if it doesn't work out, I can always get another CRV. Incidentally, the trade-in value for my CRV was outstanding. UPDATE: got rid of the Tacoma after just a few months and bought another CRV -- same trim level and color: obsidian blue, gray interior, EX trim.

On 3 different occasions, while driving the 2018 Honda CR-V on the interstate highway, it started vibrating, and would not accelerate, burning smell occurred, several warning lights came up on the dashboard. We had to navigate the car from the middle of highway to the shoulder of the highway very abruptly. It was a near death experience as several trucks and cars were traveling on the highway at very fast speeds. After the fixes done by Honda the Vehicle is working as expected for the last 2+ years

I borrowed Dad’s recently purchased Honda CRV EX-L 2018 to drive from AZ to MO. The vehicle drove great, no tuning knob on the radio is disappointing, front seat was not that comfortable after 10hrs.of driving, gas economy was awesome. I got 40 MPG the 1st day, 2nd day, fought the wind all day so the mileage was not near as good, still in the 30’s. The SUV was fully packed inside. We ran thru a muddy mess on the road & the mud is thrown up inside door panels. Going through the car wash, the soap doesn’t get the mud off & the soap/water pooled in the rubber seals around the inside of door. I reached out to American Honda & they sent me to a dealership that was of no help at all. I like the safety features; auto braking, various camera views for backing out, lane departure, lane assist, blind spot monitoring, etc.My dad’s CRV is 16 months old had the battery go totally dead & we had to replace it. We live 100 miles from the nearest Honda dealer so did not buy the replacement battery from Honda as required a tow/jump to get to a nearby repair shop. Very disappointing- hoping my battery does not experience the same issue when it is a few months older. Searching online reflects this has been a common problem- short battery life on Honda CRV’s. The battery will totally die if the vehicle takes only short trips due to living in a small town, etc. or if the car sits for 3 weeks or so. It is recommended that you drive an hour a wk. to maintain the battery to start the vehicle. Honda has a 3 year warranty that covers the battery but a new battery will do the same thing. Apparently need hr. drive for alternator to effectively charge battery. Appears Toyota RAV 4 has same issue. Wish I knew this at purchase of my new CR-V in 2018. This really needs to be addressed & folks need to at a minimum know this information to avoid being stranded in the middle of nowhere. I got a jump start from Honda on a car at 8,000 miles, vehicle 18 months old, and drove it for 30 minutes and next day, dead battery again!

Mid-Size SUV Steals the Show from its Contenders

We purchased the 20118 CR-V AWD Touring model 2 weeks ago, so my only perspective of the vehicle is as a new car. So while I can not speak for its longevity or service history yet, I can say that we are super-pleased with this car and just about everything about it. It's really comfortable to drive, handles very well, offers convenience in just about every way and really has us feeling great about our purchase. The price for the top-of-the-line CR-V was really decent at about $21.9k, and there were only a few dealer-installed extras we put on the vehicle, like all-season mats, mud flaps, a cargo net and door edge guards. Since I use an iPhone, the Apple CarPlay system is terrific although it does also come with Android Entertainment included, as well. LED day running lights add to all the other safety stuff such as lane departure monitor, braking monitor, etc., many of which can be disabled as desired. So, I can update as time progresses, but for now this vehicle is really making our family very happy with our decision to purchase it!

Gas smell disaster

This car was bought as a retirement car to be owned for many years. Gas smell started at random times. Check of oil revealed more oil volume than full. Smelled gas when checking oil. This car is driven in a four season environment in North Idaho. Cold in the winter. Honda dealership did the recommended service by Honda. It didn't work. Honda Manufacturing said the problem only exists in colder climates (than North Idaho) and refused to do anything further. Make sure to research the gas in the oil issue before buying a CR-V. With 4,000 miles on the car, traded it in because once the gas in the oil problem is known by more potential buyers the trade in value will take a hit.

There are a number of reviews raving about this car: spacious, reliable, and excellent value. Like others, the CR-V has never been in my shopping list until this year. The strongest point for us is the value with the various active safety features being standard above the base model. Well I wanted a safe car for my kids to drive rather than my old 2002 MB, these young kids just don’t seem to like to drive; they lack experience or navigation capabilities without the phone’s GPS. So I got a great end of year deal on EX-L, really needed only the EX. The interior is very nice. I’ve been driving it while the kids are away at college instead of my old MB. This car drives nice although it does not have the quality finish of the luxury car - (inside lower plastic panels seems cheap, brake pedal and shifter has a clunking sound when using it,) but what do you expect for tens of thousands dollars cheaper. But for its class, I really enjoy this car. Now to provide some slight disappointments: the gas mileage was slight lower than expected for highway, it’s hard to get more than 29 mpg, mixed is always high 27. (The weather is still cold, maybe it will get better, but Edmunds long term review supports this comment.) Worse, when I drive slightly past the low fuel light, the tank is a small 11 gallon, so I fill the tank more often than I like. My wife’s diesel X3 easily gets about 37 mpg when I get 28 for the same mix driving conditions. But in the end, the mileage is not bad. Now for the tech, I often have USB problems with Apple Play. (Edmunds long term stated a problem once with Android Play.) I have to unplug the USB and plug it back to work. (My friend’s 2018 Camry USB doesn’t work at all, while my wife’s X3 USB randomly drops out and the car has to be turned off to get working again. So I seen a number of USB issues on different cars with different phone and cables.) The full speed dynamic cruise control really works great, it can avoid collisions when rubber necking or if you momentarily get distracted. It would stop the car completely and can resume from standstill. I most hit the brake when someone cuts into my lane very close to me. The keep in lane, not to be confused with lane departure, works nice in mostly straight roads. The two makes long trips nice and safe. The big disappointment is the speed that the lane departure and keep in lane works, above 45 mph. This is very high, this eliminates most roads except highways. Most cars including Toyota works at lower speeds, Toyota is above 32 mph. So, it won’t protect kids or folks being out too late and dozing off on the country roads. According to the manual, if you cross over a solid line and it was not able to get you back in lane, it will hit the brakes, cool. The rear side cross traffic and blind spot works great. I have not experience the front collision avoidance thankfully, but can say the hit the brake light comes on prematurely even when I’m decelerating. This is in contrast to Toyota that almost never alerts you. I don’t find the alert distracting, especially when I want this for my kids. In conclusion, I really like this car, to the point where I wonder if it’s better to get two new cars like this or keep a luxury car for 16 years? This car has more standard tech than my wife car for so much more money. The details are slightly lacking, but once you are sitting inside and driving, you almost forget you are driving a, god forgive, CR-V.

I've put 200 miles on this vehicle and hate it. It beeps at me all the time and usually I have no idea why. Sensing system goes into error. Dash tells me to BRAKE and more BEEPING when there is nobody near me on the freeway. Fancy iPad mounted to the dash blows. The vehicle is always locked when I think it's unlocked and unlocked when I think it's locked. The locks are downright infuriating. The fab weighs about 10 pounds in your pocket. Engine is loud and s l o w. Cab is horribly loud in the rain. Thought I needed to bond with her and spent the last two days dolling her up. It made me hate the vehicle even more. It's a detailing nightmare with so many water retaining nooks and crannies. Water gets inside the tail lights. Chrome trim pieces in the headlights grab my wash mit because they are poking out at the ends. Oh, and you have to leave your fab well away from the car when washing otherwise it keeps locking the doors and beeping every time the water hits the door handles. I hate this vehicle! Update 03-04-2018: 2 months ownership, 842 miles driven on it, no regrets about anything my previous review said. My CRV has officially been named Spawn of Satan (SOS). I especially enjoyed the 4-week insect infestation on the EXTERIOR of the vehicle. 10s of thousands of the smallest jumping insects I have ever seen. Corporate Honda did not care; dealer had no clue what to do. Best guess is that it was sold to me with a nest in it somewhere. Every "safety" feature that can be disabled, except for blind spot warning, has been turned off because they flat out don't work. Unfortunately, the Honda Sensing system cannot be disabled. It's not ready for market. Count on plenty of temper tantrums from the system in anything less than perfect road conditions or weather. A few adds to my list of dislikes...The left 2-3 inches of the front windshield becomes unusable in the rain. You cannot stuff the center storage console with stuff AND expect to use the power/USB ports. There are no lights on the joysticks. When using turn signals you can EASILY accidentally turn on high beams. If you own it, you know these things. Regardless of an obscene amount of gasketing on this vehicle, there is still a moisture issue as evidenced by inside foggy windows every time the car is washed or in rain. This vehicle very surprisingly topped my most despised vehicle ever owned list in about a week. It took out long standing champ '89 Chevy Beretta which GM bought back from me under lemon law. Not in a million years would I expect a Honda to do that! I want to be clear that this vehicle has had NO mechanical problems that have left me stranded. It's the rest of it that is absolutely sub-par. This CRV replaces a 10-year old similar size and trim level SUV with an American badge. The bar to beat didn't seem very high, but I guess it was.

We have owned five CRVS and four other Hondas. My first CRV was a 1997. It had over 200,000 miles when traded to dealer, The CRV has continued to be refined through the years. The 2018 Touring is an outstanding car. It took me about a week to learn how to adapt to new technology; now I wonder how I lived without it. Car rides well; it has great storage, comfortable seats, and great mileage. I thought about buying a more expensive car but did not for the CRV Touring is a quality vehicle. I have driven the car 6500 miles and have had no problems.

CRV Touring

Didn't plan on getting the Touring Model but my wife liked the black inserts on the wheels, rear exhaust tips, and headlights better. Coming from a V6 Accord to this was a bit of a let down on power but the add'l MPG will be worth it. The safety features also take some getting used to. We were driving the other night and the high beams turned on by themselves, didn't know that would happen, but they turned off when an oncoming car appeared. The wife thinks the motor noise is a bit loud on acceleration. Don't buy from Norm Reeves West Covina Honda, they spin that they will match any price after 5 days of sale but will not honor that price unless you get a full contract from another dealer. They have no written policy stating you need a "contract". The only written policy they have is on their website where nothing is listed as "contract".

Best Car for Us!

We bought the EX-L CRV 2018 a few months ago after selling our Prius. When first looking at SUVs we narrowed down the field to the Toyota Rav4, the CRV and the Subaru Forester. Since my husband has recently been diagnosed with Parkinson's and both of us are turning 70, we were looking for features that will benefit us in the future. The CRV was the only one offering the features we wanted such as settings for driver's seat and outside mirrors. It was the only one of the three to offer the mirror setting as well as the seat. It also had the easiest to read digital speedometer. The Rav4 did not even have a digital speedometer available on any of it's models. And don't forget Apple Car Play! Love it. Add in the auto-opening trunk lift, easy to enter height of the car, leather seats, roomy interior, cruise control that almost allows the car to drive itself, ... And now for the cons: gas milage is just ok. We get about 27 mpg in the city. Horrible sounding engine! Sounds like a sick lawn mower. I do not drive like a 90 year old and so have to take off ECON in order to get the thing going from a complete stop. Otherwise, so glad we purchased the CRV.

Sold it after 3 months as the car’s electrical systems were TERRIBLE! Took it on 1 trip and we’re afraid we wouldn’t make it back home.lights, dash dauges, brake system, all acted up and we didn’t dare shut it off. Went to the dealer and they wouldn’t let me have it running when they checked the computer, so they shut it off and reset the check engine light and said there was nothing wrong! It did the same thing 2 more times with the same results, so we traded it for a Kia and no more problems!!!

First Impressions - Very Happy with Purchase.

Purchased CR-V on these factors: Reliability, Comfort, Safety, Fuel Economy, Performance. Reliability - Owned 1 Chrysler mini van and 5 GM brand vehicles. Two died before 100k, 2 had blown head gaskets, another replaced cam shaft at 12,000 miles and all had lots of major repairs. Owned 2007 Civic EX. While involved with 7 recalls including two for that major air bag deal, dealer was great with replacement including rental car and dashboard put together with no squeeks or rattles. Replaced starter and Freon for air conditioning. Normal wear and tear replacement for brakes, tires, etc. Civic, along with a Toyota Celica, were the best two cars owned in my life time. Daughter-in-law owns 2017 CR-V Ex for little over a year with no issues. Expect the same great reliability with the CR-V. Performance - Very good pickup with a comfortable ride to the point I have to check speed to make sure I don't exceed speed limits as it is easy to do. Handles nicely at 70mph. Corners very well and nice smooth braking. Comfort -12 way power seat fits both my wife 4'11'' and myself 5'11' very well. Driving view is good for both. Very easy for me to get in and out versus my Civic. Wife has to slide out so considering installing running boards. She has no problem getting in. Passenger seat comfortable. Back seats not used but felt fine on test drive. Love dashboard and happy with entertainment system. Safety - 5 star safety rating very important to us. Happy with the electronic safety features but most of them get disabled in bad weather or if wiper blades running. Enjoy the auto lights and auto high beam. Love the backup warning system with the rear view camera. With walk away locking, I basically walk to and open door, start engine, drive, reach destination, leave vehicle. Do nothing with keys or switches. Fuel Economy is only 25.5 mpg but the car is brand new. Getting the same mileage for urban driving as my 2007 Civic. Nice offset is I can park this suv in the same spots as my Civic. Out of the smaller suvs that I looked at, this is still the best mpg. Overall I am very happy with my purchase. The CR-V will be used for road trips across the US and should be great for it.

We've owned 8 Hondas over the past 15 years and have been happy with every single one. We keep our cars for at least 150K miles and have had no issues other than routine maintenance. The latest purchase was a 2018 CRV, replacing a 2010 CRV with 155K miles and still going strong. The new car has much more safety equipment, a small engine, yet more horsepower and significantly better gas mileage. We'll be replacing our 2009 Ridgeline in a year or 2 and will most likely get another CRV.

This is my second CRV

I owned and still own a 2014 CRV. I had 2 complaints about the 2014. No Home link and no push button start. Both of those features are on the 2018. What I am amazed with are all of the other features in the 2018. The Adaptive Cruise Control works perfectly. I found it hard to believe that the car came with LKAS (Lane Keep Avoidance System) This feature in essence allows the car to steer itself (or stay between the lines). I thought that this feature was only available on high end cars such as my wifes Volvo S90. I can tell you that this feature works at least as well in the 2018 CRV as it does in the 2017 S90. The new turbo charged engine delivers more than enough acceleration. The 2018 rides better and performs better than my 2014 CRV which I gave to my son. The only things that I don't like about the car are with the bluetooth integration. I dial into conference calls a couple times a day from my car. Dial an 800 number, then pause and dial in a PIN. The pause in the dialer don't work and I have to dial from the phone. The dealership has been useless on an update. Secondly, I never use the Android Auto. It seems to serve no purpose. I may be more disappointed in Google and Android Auto than Honda. As far as the bluetooth working during calls and streaming music, it works fine. The user interface on the entertainment system isn't the most intuitive either. I absolutely love the car. I loved the 2014 and feel like the 2018 is just a tremendous value for the money and HIGHLY recommend one to someone looking for a small SUV. It is also worth mentioning that after approximately 60,000 miles on the 2014, it has never been to the dealership. I have only replaced tires and brakes! Review is for a 2018 EX-L AWD and included with the purchase price are roof rack and rails, hitch, winter floor mats.
