A great used car or just a lot of problems?
I normally would not post a car review. I think my experience with my Honda has made me change my mind. Most consider Honda to be reliable. Over 3 Honda's I have found almost the opposite. Lets start off with the great things about the car. I get 28 to 29mpg consistently. For the speed the car has, I consider this good. As of 2015, there are cars that get better and are a lot faster though. Reports from actual owners say the EPA is off though. I can only speak for my car and say the fuel mileage is good. The seats, they are great. Best seats I have sat in short of luxury cars. I prefer cloth seats over backside burning leather in the summer months. The car is almost 10 years old and they have held up great. The head room is great and so is the front leg room. I am 6' 3" and I can even get in the back but its cramped. Its quite a peppy car, 0 to 60 time in like 6.7 seconds. Not too bad for a 4 cylinder made now, many years ago. The bad: Honda reliability is once again(as I said I have owned 3 Hondas) just not what its made out to be. Honda had an issue with 3rd gear not working right. They finally did a recall and my car went in for the recall. Years later, 3rd gear pops out at times and has to be put in with force. No, its not the syncors. It works most of the time but can still be a problem at times. Road noise is unreasonable in this car. Mine is worse than some because of the low profile tires but it is still not good. It rides very rough. Its one of the biggest reasons I plan to get rid of the car. While it hugs the road and you feel safe, you also feel every hole in the road and its like riding on a horse and buggy to work. The back tires get eaten away on the inside. Honda did a recall for this after a class action lawsuit was filed. I had mine fixed by Honda but to this day the inside of the tires still wear faster than the rest of the tire. It has helped but did not fully fix the problem. Alignments help but it does not seem to stay in alignment long. The timing chain failed at 145k miles. I had to pay 1500 bucks plus towing fee's to get a "never maintenance" issue fixed. The rear view mirror is falling apart from the inside and has areas that no longer work. Now for the biggest problem, the paint. Honda did a TSB on paint for certain colors. My color was one of them they did not offer to fix but just the hood area. I now have almost no paint on my roof and the paint on the side pillars is starting to come off. I also see areas on the trunk that look like they are starting to fail. I called Honda of America only to be told my car was too old and too high mileage. I told them how it was failing in the same areas and way in which the recalled colors were and all I got was that it was not a recall but a TSB. They would not even offer to help pay for the over 1000 dollars in paint repairs this car now needs. They said over 800 for just the roof. Might be well over 1000 now that the paint is failing in other areas. Honda knows they had faulty paint. My car now unless fixed, will have very little of that wonderful Honda re-sell value. The paint is nothing new for Honda, my 2004 accord had paint falling off of it when I sold it. I like the car but not enough to recommend it to anyone unless you get it cheap.

Fun reliable car with minor fixable issues
I've owned this car from 40k to its current 80k mileage. It is fun to drive, especially above 5k rpm, and has been very reliable. The major maintenance I've done is replacing the battery (~40k miles), brakes (~65k), and tires. There was an issue with the engine running roughly when warming up in the winter, but an ECU update for ~$40 fixed that issue. A common problem with 3rd gear was entirely fixed by replacing the manual transmission fluid with Amsoil at ~50k miles. The upper rear control arms have some excessive negative camber (around -2*) and this has caused increased tire wear on the rears, but rotation would fix that problem.

Great car
This is a great, reliable car. I have over 150,000 miles on it and it's been holding up very well. Also had an accident and repair was relatively inexpensive. Note: I rated the technology above based on the year the car was made - 2006.

car of the year
i was previously driving a Hyundai Tiburon and thought it was a good car. little did I know how great of a car the Si is. i work for honda as a salesman and drive a lot of different cars and feel a lot of different rides. there is no car out there that drives like a honda does. this new Si is one of the best cars on the road when it comes to performance, features, safety, and money saving. this car is extremely fun to drive that doesn't need any modifications to make it fast.
bargin performance
This car is one performance bargin for the dollar. I got the car for 20,540 which was sticker. do not pay over sticker, these cars can be found for sticker. 197 hp from 2.0 liter engine, no turbo,no s/c, amazing.I have 8000 miles, no problems whatsoever. excellent build qualilty throughout.
I love it!
I have had this car for three thousand miles and I love it! The shifts are always smooth, has adequate pickup in low rpm range if you want to get good gas mileage, but stomp down on the gas and you really go! Disappointed with quality of peripherals. Bought the car used with 53k, after 1k miles needed a new idler pulley. Fixed the idler pulley and they told me that the tensioner pulley bearing is going bad too. Not to mention spending 10 hours getting my third gear fixed. While I did that I had to get my sun visor replaced ($75) it was falling apart. All in the first month of my owning (53-54k miles).
Nearly Flawless
Over 59,000 in 3.5 years and the only things I had to do was oil change and tire replacement and rotation and wiper blade replacement... that was it! I didn't beat it, but drove it as hard as anyone has driven any car. Some of the best seats I've ever sat in. Great sound system except for the rattle from the back panel that covers the rear speakers and subwoofer. 3rd gear was fussy on occasion. If a car is too fast, you don't get to enjoy it enough on public roads because you can't explore it's limits... The si is perfect because it's somewhat quick, it's agile, and it sounds great taking it to 8,000 rpms through 4 gears! I just turned the 06 in for a '10.
Nothing like this car!
This is the best car purchase I've ever made. Economical, yet fun and fast! Its the perfect car for me. I enjoy the sound system (it is awesome) and this car has many perks (auto window/sunroof/navi/wheels)...the seats are so comfy too! Honda has really changed the style of the new civic, but its one that really works. I just have to be careful not to get a ticket-accelerating this car is a blast!
One amazing car
This is one impressive car to drive. You will find yourself turning the radio off just to hear the exhaust note when the VTEC is kicked in. It just makes you smile everytime. I drove it conservatively for a tank and got 34 mpg. The car is a blast to drive and super quick not to mention handling.
the most fun for your money
i used to have all kind of vehicles, usually i didn't keep a car for more than 6 to 9 month before i got bored of them but my new si it's just awesome, from performance to design to fuel economy this car is by far the best civic ever and also the kind of vehicle that i really want to keep.
2006 Honda Civic Si
This is a very good car for the money, this is the car that you alway want to drive. I have put almost 20k miles within a year. Just traded it for a miata and I'vemissed it ever since. The sound, and the way it goes through curves is just wonderful. I would recomend it to everyone who wants a fun to drive car while still practical and economical. This car feels more powerful than the miata and has a lot of good features. I miss my Si, I will buy this car back some day just to hear the exhaust note and the sound of the vtec switch over.
Worth the wait.
I put my deposit down in the beginning of December and just now (March) got my Honda Civic. This vehicle was well worth the wait. Very responsive, fun to drive, and the quality of the car are just a few things to say about it. Way to go Honda!!
finally!!!
i saw this car at the ny auto show a couple of years ago and was sold! it is so fun to drive and for my 30 mile mountain road commute this is a must! i have 13,500 miles on it right now and have had no trouble at all. i am extremely hard on it and bounce the tach off of 8200 rpms daily! you cant kill these things! and the shift light is the best. it lets you keep your eyes on the road.this is my 5th honda product and i have never had a problem with any of them! synthetic oil is a must in these cars. if you are not using it now, get it!
06 civic Si
Over all I'm very satisfied with my purchase. Performance, fuel, economy and looks are all up to par on this car. I sold my 04 RSX type S for this and i believe it was a good choice.
Unparalleled
I have had this car for 6.5 years and can confidently say that it is one of the best vehicles I've ever owned. Performance is superb. Handling is absurdly exciting! As a daily driver, though, it is beautifully well-behaved and placid. Gas mileage is perfectly acceptable, even when you drive it like a speed-demon.
inflated popularity hype
Do you know what car sales people do when its slow? They create free email accounts, fake user names and positive experiences and then post them on this and other consumer review web sites. Wow did this car put me on a financial roller coaster. If you think reliability when you think Honda, you have been brainwashed. Everywhere, I mean everywhere I took this car for a repair, I would get a report card of failing components with price tags and labor costs equal to 20 percent of the value of the car! I bought this car twice after 4 years, I mean, the same car cost me 22,000 in maintenance and purchase price was 22,000 4 years B4. Best advice if you like this car, buy one new, sell after a yr.
SI - Surgical Instrument?
After having my Civic Si for 7 months, I have to say I am in love with this car. (Shallow, I know) Now I wouldnt call myself an overly aggressive driver, but well just say that Im not afraid to under steer or over steer a vehicle, with all the tire noise and panicked passenger(s) to boot. I like to power out of corners, or put another way; brake hard, throw in, and punch out. This car excels at this. The helical limited slip puts the power where its needed and without a lot a lot of fuss. Strait line weapon? Not sure. But chase it up through five (of six) gears on a Saturday night and the local judge may need to be roused from of bed if you want to go home before Sunday's sunrise.
Outstanding rockett
Have nav, sat radio, ground package and fog lights. I get up at 4 in the morning if I can't sleep and just drive this car and listen to the outstanding sat radio. Fast, handles like quick silver.I like the 21.9 rake of the windscreen. I am wating for the sport muffler to be released. This is my third si, this is the hottest and best.I am 71 and fight the urge to leave everyone at the stop light. I like the long air inlet pipe that runs from the filter housing to the lower left fender area. No cold air intake needed. I just wish I could drink a beer as I show off in this pocket rocket. I traded a scion tc for this baby. The tc was fun but not like the si.
458k miles and going
My SI is still going strong with the original motor. I use this car for my commute to work. 16 years and the Vtec still kicks

Nice surprise
I just traded my 04 TSX for the Si. Although some people at work have told me I step down from a nicer car; I feel like it was a wise choice since I only had to come up with a couple of K's out of my pocket to drive off with a car with tons of horsepower, technology, and design. As gas prices are on the rise, I'm sure a lot of SUV lovers will start discovering the beauty of 197 hp and 31 mpg. 6 speed manual transmission, navi, sunroof, sport seats, etc on a $22k car? Why would anybody be driving anything else than Honda/Acura products???
The Si isn't as good as I expected.
When I bought the car I loved it. It was much better than the 1991 Si it replaced. Sadly my Si was plagued by many rattles and the dealer never could seem to duplicate them. Rattles seem to be a common problem with the '06 Civics. The car handles great, and makes good power from 6 - 8k. You have to work the 6 speed transmission when you're in traffic to keep the car in it's power band. The 7 speaker stereo is the best I've seen in a stock car. The Si is a good compromise between performance and economy.
06 Si
This car is really fun to drive. It has great cornering. 8300k rev. Best looking Civic so far.
Let 'er scream
With about 25,000 miles on the car, and having read most of the online reviews of this car I wanted to add my two cents worth. The car is great as a small performance car. Handling is superb, it is quite fast. The two tiered dash takes a lot to get used to. The throttle hang that many complained of began to disappear at around 15,000 miles and now is mostly non-existent unless she's cold. The third gear notchyness that many complained of was noticeable when the car was cold during the first winter but this winter has not appeared. Honda has a new gear lube for this tranny for winter driving. Overall, the car is a gas to drive, is very comfortable for two, very high build quality.
Love My Si
Great car to drive. Only two problems: (1) It's so easy to spin the wheels, I already got a reckless driving ticket. (2) Don't hit potholes. I've hit two this winter and because of the low profile tire, both tires split on the sidewall (cosmetic) and both wheels were dented.
Make That V-Tec Noise
As we pass the threshold of middle age, we decided that life is short to drive a boring car. Enter a S2000, extreme fun, not practical. So our test drives, (What didn't we test drive!) reviews, (thanks Edmunds) lead us to two choices, a GTI and the Si. We bought both(his and hers). I got the Si. Comfortable, extreme handling, braking, snick snick shifting, confidence inspiring, what a blast. Drive it like a Civic, than hit that Vtec, it becomes the S2000.(well almost) Ride comfort who cares.Do 20 MPH or 90 MPH the car feels and responds sensationally. Plenty of room for this 6 footer plus a trunk and fold down seats make this a everyday joy. Outward vision excellent. Note: Buy a radar detector
Sweet little Si
I bought my 1st Honda Si in 1987, and loved everything about it. Sold it with over 200,000 miles and the engine was still perfect. The 2006 gives me the same feeling. This engine is the sweetest engine you will find. It loves to rev, and the sound is pure music. Currently have over 3,000 miles on mine and have enjoyed every mile. It's really amazing this day and age that you can find a sporty, well made, did I mention "fun" car for low 20's. You really need to drive one to know what I'm talking about. Kudo's to Honda for making a great car. Jim in Tennessee
Best Bang for Your Buck.
Prior to this, I would've never considered owning any foreign car... Performance: This car is zippy, even if you're not hitting VTEC. It rockets, very quickly, to 60, and blows most competition away. Comfort: The pseudo-suede seats are comfortable, but I wish they offered a leather option. There is no lumbar support, which I really miss, though the height adjustment is a nice touch. The middle hump in the backseat is slightly uncomfortable. Economy: Good on gas at average 23/32, but requires premium fuel only. Fun to Drive: The best part. Amazing handling (second only to RX-8, that I've driven), great road feel, smooth ride, tight, responsive steering. Amazing short throw shifter.
Amazing car!
I have been driving my new Si for about 2 weeks now and I have to say its quite a ride. Fun for any car connoisseur! If you haven't test driven it yet, go do it. If you are going to have fun with this car be ready to shell out some money because refueling this bad boy will cost you. If this is your daily driver I suggest you keep the rpms below 5000.
It's a blast
So I was not really looking to get a Civic until I drove the new Si. I have had classic Chevys over the years and they have all been over 300 hp. I know the the SI is not 300 but it still has guts for a 4 banger. The handling of this car is great right off the lot. I have yet to change anything to do with the suspension and I don't belive that I will. I did put 18" wheels on it with better tires. It made a pretty big difference.
Sweet
This car is just as advertised. 86 miles a day hills, highways, traffic and averaging 50mpg. Everytime I fill my tank it's about 10 gallons and my trip set reads around 520+.
06 Civic Si
This has to be my favorite car to drive. It's Very comfortable, gets good gas mileage, let alone the LSD equipped 6 speed mated to the 2 liter I-Vtec engine... What more could you ask for?
Lucky to find one
This car is very impressive. The engine is nothing short of amazing. The salesman kept my name from a question about the Si back in Oct. 05. In test driving the first thing that impressed me the the exhaust note during acceleration (very impressive) I don't understand the low torque rating because car seems much faster than 6.7 and is pulling hard.
Exquisite Masterpiece!
It's been seven days since I've purchased my new Civic Si and I'd have to say that this car is more than pure exhilarating fun! The power that the K20 engine unleashes is unimaginable and more suprising is the sudden gain in power that commands your body to the seat as the RPM needle gauge races past the 5 grand mark. Aside from the engine fury, an admirable and noticable sound is produced as those engine ponies begin to roar. The roadway is the Civic's playground and the handling is more than grippping. The Civic Si interior is trully a futuristic concept brought to life. Driving has never been this fun and the compliments that I've received is more than overwhelming.
i love it
i never had a car run so good like this one and i love to race it cuz the power is great and everybody gives me good feedback on the car
Fun Car
The first year I had it, I drove it over 23,000 miles. It is fun to drive, but the long trips aren't the most comfortable for a 6' guy. Fuel economy is around 31 mpg on the interstate and 25 mpg around town. I keep it well maintained. That might be the reason for such mileage. It has plenty of power and response. It does seem to be a little heavy coming around the corners, but it will hold the whole way. The only complaint I have, is the rattle in the rear speaker deck from the sub and speakers. My personal opinion is, get the lip kit. It makes it look so much better and aggressive.
civic si
the car has alot of tech. it still needs auto headlights. gm owners are used to having them and honda should look at this.
Love at first gear
Honda has come out with a truly outstanding vehice. Changing this year from the boxy hatch back that is so mimiked by everyone else, to a truly phenominal vehicle. Spacious passenger space and plenty of cargo space, all packed in a fast and efficient piece of machinery. The new innovation of the displays, speedo above, others below is a crowning touch to a true masterpiece. The energy is best described when I tell people that I am in third gear doing 50 and then shift to 4th. The vehicle understands when you are in gear to travel, and switches to being in gear to perform, on demand. Good job HONDA Motors. And thank you, Kathy
Si Fun in the So Cal Sun
Being an owner of a BMW, the feel and performance is similar for a car that is not in the same league. In two weeks, I have driven 2000 miles just because. Once you sit in & start the engine, the feeling is just unexplainable. The deep sound of the engine, the snugness of the seats, and the interior with a look like a cockpit just adds to the experience. I test drove TC, GTI, & Jetta but did not like. Originally I was looking at getting the EX and saw an SI in the lot, the salesman warned me that once I drive the SI, forget about the EX. The way the car takes on curves, accelerates and shifts are really outstanding. Glad to see that Honda did bring more back to the Civic line.
Most well-rounded car ever
Like the title says, this car is the most well-rounded car of all time. Power, exterior/interior design, and handling are all perfect in my opinion. It took a little bit for me to get used to the new "drive by wire" technology, but now that I've adapted I couldn't be happier. Before this I had a 94 Accord w/ lsd and a lot of suspension upgrades. This thing handles just as well out of the box!
Great car
This car performs well and has good interior & exterior styling & solid build quality. People talk about the torque but you can't be afraid to let it rev to get acceleration. BTW it sounds great when reved. It's a fun car but, you must drive carefully in the city & around traffic. Watch out for stuff on the road because of the sports suspension. For some reason Honda put airbags in the back of a coupe where you rarely have passengers. The c pillars are so big that they make blind spots. This is the sportiest civic people have been waiting for but it amazes me that people now complain about it being too sporty. There are going to be trade offs. Those guys should get something else.
Some finer points
Another great pocket rocket! Great balance of driving fun and practicality. Now a few finer points: The Si isn't a very good freeway driver as the suspension is much stiffer than the regular model and you feel the chinks in the concrete - this wears on the driver after ~30min. Short trips are great esp when turns are involved. Light weight makes handling great. The car isn't as "small" as you may think with room for 4 and a big trunk, but you really notice its height when washing it. Steering is tight/precise but one problem with the leather wrapped wheel is the back spoke covers don't fit right on Si models causing a sharp edge to catch fingers w/ enthusiastic driving or just parking it!
Style and Performance
The new body style and more powerful engine make this Civic the most fun car I have owned in years. Steering and suspension are nice and tight, the car has the feel of a much more expensive European coupe. Honda has defenitly raised the bar with the 2006 SI.
I love my Si
The new civic Si is a fun great car. From its aerodynamics, to its power, Honda has really taken the civic to a whole new level. I recommend this car to everyone.
Never knew driving was so much fun!
I have had my Civic Si now for just 4 days/200 miles. So far, I absolutely love it! The driving performance, interior quality, sound system all surpass what I expected. I was lucky to find one in a local dealer's inventory (it was the only Si available in a 30 mile radius from Indianapolis).
BonSi Beast
This is my fourth Honda. Two Accords and two Civics. The last two being Civics since I can't afford the Accord anymore! I owned a 2003 Civic EX sedan which was an awesome car. But this new Si is by far the best car I've ever owned. Straight out this car is a blast, wish I had it when I was much younger. I am Honda loyal now. My father bought a 06 Honda Accord EX V6 the same day. I hope to inherit it some day.
Mid-Life Crisis Civic Si
Purchased in April 2006. Drove it as a daily commuter until it was totaled in mid-July 2006. An awesome entry level sports coupe. Fun to drive in early morning light traffic (3:30 AM) but not during the San Fracisco Bay Area rush hour traffic (4PM~7PM). Post crash hindsight: Not a very practical daily commuter car being unable to take advantage of its capabilities in stop & go traffic. In other words, it becomes just like any other car on the road in heavy bumper- to-bumper traffic - something to keep in mind when you get caught up in the "emotional" process of buying a car. Replacement car is a '07 Scion tC, because it is a more practical choice for a daily commuter.
Who needs a "3" series?
I've driven quite a few sports sedans (BMW, Subare WRX, Acura, etc), but there is nothing that compares to the Civic Si. This car is a "Pocket Rocket" that revs like a 65 Mustang. It grabs the road like it has claws. Superb handling aided by the leather wrapped telescoping steering wheel. Super low center of gravity and road grip makes it feel like you'll be able to handle any turn at any speed. The seats have a wrap around quality that simulate a race car. Black interior with bright red intrument panel is striking. Six speed manual trans is a dream, and tremendously entertaining. The body styling will turn heads. The Si is quick, fun, well built and way cool!
2006 Civic Si - Impressed
Best car I have ever owned let alone driven. Interior style, look and quality is that of a $35K car. 6 speed shifts like butter, clutch is perfect. Car launches like a rocket and when you hit 6,000 RPM's hold on tight because it will scream right up to 8,000 in every gear. Raced some 2006 3.5 Liter Altimas from rolling at 40 and I could barely see them in my rear view mirror at 110 mph. Honda has built a dream.
Factory Street Racer
Until I started researching the new Si, I never thought that Honda Civic would be my dream car! Bought my new rocket on 12/23/05. One short test drive was all it took to fall in love with Si. Sitting in the cockpit you feel like you're in a high tech video racing game with all the digital gauges, shift light, and ambient red lighting. Build quality inside and out is excellent giving the car a feeling more like that of a $30K car rather than $20K. You can hear and feel high-performance as soon as you turn the key. There's plenty of power at low RPMs for town driving but get up around 6,000 RPM and Si hits a new level of excitement!!! It has the growl of a rabid beast and flies!!! Availability of the new Si is scarce... production is only 15,000 for the first year. I was very lucky but these are very hard to find, especially without a dealer mark-up. Of course the low production means that this will be a car of iconic and collectable worth. The car itself is near perfection.
