great little car!
my honda has had zero mechanical problems. besides replacing tires, the muffler, and the battery (just last month) this car has been a dream. living through the harsh winters of michigan (with the ever-present road salt) i expect some rust, but this car has none. this is not an exotic sports car or a luxury sedan but for a small economy car this honda can't be beat.
163k and still going
i bought her used w/135K on her, and even tho the body is rough, the engine is fantastic. i change the oil, and am taking her in this month for the timing belt/w.pump r&r. i doubt its ever been done, and is recc.every 70K or so. i use this car to commute avg.of 150 miles/day, and it never fails me. handles well in winter conditions due to low/wide build. i LOVE the 5spd manual trans..is so fun, and good mpg too. I love this car so much, i'm putting about $1000 into her to get her looking nice and getting the engine to 100% performance. most would say it isn't worth it, but i bet its only used 1/2 its 'life'. hoping to get 300K+ before she calls it quits.

Honda at the Pinnacle of Quality
Awesome mpg: 41/50 combined with 11 trouble free year gives the VX a hands down win in my book
Bought my Civic used in 1998
The most annoying part of this little 4 door sedan is the automatic transmission.Though it has been trouble-free, it is underpowered from ramp speed up to highway speed. It will cruise nicely at 120 kilometres an hour just over 70 miles per hour. I bought the car used privately with 110,000 kilometres (65,000 miles). I have had few problems with it and it now has nearly 300,000 kilometres or 180,000 miles. I plan on keeping it another 2 years and with the Krown rustproofing the car has seen since it was 4 years old annually, it still looks great! The car has had an axle and upper ball joint replacement on one side front- end. The remainder has been normal maintenence!Great car!
first car
Well, seeing as this is my first car, I would like to point out that it has no competition. I love it. I've had it for 6 months now, and have enjoyed every minute of owning it. I have to point out that power is lacking a bit. Even when revving at 5ooo rpm, the car barely feels like it's moving when me and my friends are in it.The car has an endearing character that says to me, "Let's go drive!" Also, the interior is great. I love all of the standard features. However, the tires don't work well at all in the rain, and the stereo sucks. Oh well, I guess I can't have it all. Anyway, it truly is a great car.
ZIPPY!!
I have owned many cars, and this one is by far the most fun out of them all. Even with the small engine, it is incredibly zippy. The 5 speed manual transmission makes it even more fun to drive. Owning this car has made me a major fan of Honda. I am purchasing the 2004 Honda Pilot (family outgrew the Civic, unfortunately). I will definately miss this car.
Love this car!
Purchased new and have loved it ever since. Aside from regular maintenance, have only replaced brakes, muffler and just last week, CV joints. No problem installing an after market CD player. Gets around wonderfully in the snow (with studded tires) and is a kick to drive. Very dependable.
This is a great car
I bought this car for $200 from someone who tore up the tranny. It is a 5 speed and this kid didn't know how to drive one, so he learned on this car. It is great! The only reason I had to go into the tranny was because of him, and it was a simple fix. It has 156,000 miles on it, and it is very dependable. I do wish it was a little more comfortable, but it will do with gas being $2.80 a gallon. 42 MPG in a 12 year old car!!!
Fun little car
The car handles extremely well. Not a lot of engine power, so having an manual transmission is a must for adequate performance. Very reliable.
King Honda
Fantastic vehicle! I bought this with 164,000 miles on it and you'd never know it by the way it runs. Heck, the interior looks practically brand new! The paint hasn't held up too well, but it is 11 years old. It is a fun car to drive with plenty of pep with a 5-speed. Also, I think this generation Civic is the best looking. I'm 6'6", so it's a bit tight, but not too uncomfortable. Lots of legroom helps, but the seats don't support my back too well. Small price to pay for 43 mpg (not running AC), though! I foresee many more enjoyable miles with my new best friend.
i love my honda
Its been the the most inexpensive, reliable, fun to drive car i've ever owned. With 130,000 miles it still runs like it just rolled off the assembly line, and as a plus, on a warm sunny day you can't help but get in ur civic roll down the windows and cruise! My next car WILL be a honda!
Great Car!
This car gets the best gas mileage - still up to 40 on the freeway. Front and back seats are very comfortable (unless you are >250lbs) and people can't believe how much I can fit in the trunk. The car handles ok, not great, and has a decent ride(only 13" rims), but car is quick if you are willing to push it, since it is so light. Faster than my friends Mini.
94 honda civic ex coupe
this is the best car i ever had when i got this car it had 110000 now it has 220000and only had minner stuff go bad
Worth Every Cent
Bought my EX sedan new in April '94 and its been extremely reliable. Its inexpensive to own and fun to drive (I've got the 5-sp manual). I've got about 123,000 miles on it now and expect it to last at least a few more years without any problems. It's inexpensive to fix -- not that anything has gone wrong cause it hasn't. Yeah, I do the required maintenance and replaced the timing belt, water pump, etc at 90,000 miles. The VTec engine is OK, there's some power but it's a small engine so don't expect much. My next car will be a Honda product.
Great little car
Great little car. Only one problem (clutch master cylinder) in 10 years of ownership. Very reliable. I have the antilock brake option (with 4 wheel disk); and I have yet to replace the original brakes after 107K miles. Could use better front seats and a bit more power under the hood though. Great mileage although has dropped 1-3 mpg the last year.
UNREAL
I have owned this LX sedan for 10 years now. During that time I have had the manual transmission replced (used) for about $500.00 and one fan switch and blower-$230. In ten years-those are the only repairs! This car is absolutely unbelievable & I love it-Not like I loved my German cars (really fun to drive), But because it has never let me down and drives today almost exactly the way it did the first day I purchased it. Honda makes an excellent car!
A Great Cheap Car
The Civic is a great cheap car. Cheap to maintain but not cheap in quality. It will never fail you. Great for short trips/daily commute. Not great for long trips--too much road noise.
Reliable Transport
Purchased about a year ago with 187k mi, needed new clutch and clutch master cylinder leaked. Driver's window upper forward seal has gnarled up from the sun so window is difficult to close and produces wind noise. Otherwise regular maintenance is all this car needs. It has a smooth response and predictable handling. Everything but the window nag still works. At 198k and 11yrs age I expect it to drive another 100k without major issues. Look for quiet tires when replacing them. Previous owner was original and had no problems, despite a front end crash repair, just kept up scheduled maintenance. It is not powerful, if you want a faster Civic buy the Si trim.
Strong little car - highly recommended
I got this car new in '94, and it has been with me through marriage and kids (though it did get demoted to 2nd car status with coming of the 2nd child). It is still very fun to drive and VERY reliable. Not the best highway car, but great for around town and quite OK for shorter trips. Rear hatch and fold-down seats make this a very versatile hauler, too.
A Spunky Little Honda
This is my first car. I got it from my cousin who had it for a year. She got it from a liitle old lady that drove it to church and groceries once a week. I got it with 56,000 miles on it. Amazing, hasn't even been broken in with. It unfortunately is an automatic transmission. Though a 5-spd is more sporty, this little honda can hold the road for a front wheel drive car, even on wet pavement. With the proper tires on it. This car will drive forever if I let it. I observe about 27-32 mpg depending on how I drive for the week. I average 250 miles a tank which lasts 6-7 days. With the price of gas it is important. The brakes are flawless. No leaks and little squeaks.
Best little car I've ever owned
My Honda has 288,000+ on the odometer and is still going strong. The steering on this car is phenomenal. I have NEVER lost control, even in snow ice, on crowded highways and ducking clueless motorists. What astounds me is that I continue to get between 40 and 45 mpg, even at 11 years later and the engine does not seem to burn oil. It has never let me down and has only failed to start when I left the headlights on. Normal maintenance for this car has been really minimal (i.e., I ignored it).
They should build 'em all like this!
This has been a great car for over 11 years. Car makers of the world should take lessons from Honda. I'd have kept it indefinitely except for wanting the more advanced safety features available in new cars. I held out for as long as I could!
Honda EX
A great car. At 128k miles, things are supposed to break even though it is a Honda. Other than that, great gas mileage for the year and fun to drive. Could use some more cockpit storage space.
very reliable
bought this car brand new twelve years age and it has been great Extremly reliable and I change the oil twice a year and the car still runs strong I love this honda
Only Honda's for me
I have purchased hondas for the last 10 years started with a CRX and then purchased a 93 cx hatch and then upgraded to a 94 si hatch. Si is the way to go fast, fun and a pleasure to drive. I just traded in my 02 honda civic ex for a 03 honda civic si hatch and I love it, love it, love it. All hondas get great gas mileage and have little to none repairs. Worth every penny!!!!!
Good Car
Good car, great gas mileage. Would be a great car to send your kid off to college in. Not so great for a family of 4, though!
I'm dissappointed!
Got this vehicle a few months ago (02/2007) at 143,000 miles and was pretty excited at first and started to appreciate everything about the vehicle - believing the "big hype about Civic's" more and more until last month (07/2007). The radiator blew up then other problems followed, even after a new radiator! It had an overheating problem before according to the previous owner, so maybe the previous owner was naive and careless and weakened the overall life of the car. Maybe it's because this model was manufactured in Canada as Honda of Canada Inc. Since this is my first Honda ever, it made a poor impression and I may never look at Honda's ever again, unless it's Japan made!
Willrunit totheground
We're the second owners and just passed 92,000 miles. The odd problems are beginning, but I just did a new england swing after getting 90k service and the car continues to run well at 80 or negotiating Boston's nightmarish traffic. I am going to look for something a little bigger but will keep this for my son until it dies - if all goes well he'll get three or four years of good life.
Still going
I have owned many Honda motorcycles in my life, but this was my first Honda car. I'm sold. I bought this car as to be a reliable, sporty commuter car when I returned to school. It had 22,000 miles on it and it was three years old--dealer maintained. 170,000 miles and ten years later--I refuse to sell it. It just will not die. I make well into six figures a year, and this car is still my daily driver. I drive it 80 mph to work every day, and it gets 33-36 mpg. It has never given me a major repair bill. Other than regular maintenance on brakes, belts, exhaust, plugs and wires etc.. The only real repairs I have had to make are CV joints on both front axles (twice),and a new radiator.
Excellent first car
Excellent car, lots of fun to drive. I bought with some problems but it's all fixed now.
1994 EX Sedan
We bought our EX sedan new in July of 1994 and it has been extremely reliable, easy on gas and, generally, a very positive experience to own. The engine and drivetrain have performed flawlessly. The fit and finish are first rate. Our only minor complaints are: cheap, flimsy cupholders; overly large rear door pillars that restrict rearview visability and less than exceptional torque and power. The car currently has 95K and I expect it will readily get 200K or more with minimal investment in replacement parts and service. All and all a very efficient little sedan that's a little boring to drive, but always gets you where you are going.
Great Car!
Purchased new and in nine years have performed regular maintenance - oil, coolant changes, changed front brake pads once, changed muffler once. Car has been flawless with no issues.
Great car as long as its a 5spd
Rip the front seats out for after markets and hotrod the engine to get better torqe and generly more fun, lower to handleing needs and beat the crap out of it on your daily commute,,love this Honda, its a shame cars arnt made like this one anymore, the 94 civic is a lego the happens to be a very relable car,,love it

Holds A Lot
Very Efficient interior space - use it to haul almost anything. Reliable. Won't bounce off the road when a big truck goes by. Stable at 85 MPH interstate driving. Interior holds up well - looks new even in the Florida sun. Original paint holds up well. Mine is a blue-green. Wouldn't change a thing!
