4-Door Accord EX 6speed manual -Part II
With 4,000 miles on my Accord, here's an update to my original post. Continue to be impressed with the power and fuel economy this 4 cylinder puts out; although, at times I do miss my prior 6 cyclinder car that had an additional 75 hp. The manual transmission is a joy to operate with short throws and well defined gates. Noticed a few quality issues such as the front defroster vent at the base of the windshield pulling up. Cost cutting is evident on the OE carpeted floor mats. They have a REALLY cheap feel to them.

Have just over 400 miles on my new Accord. The manual transmission is a joy to operate and is well matched to the engine. I am coming from an 04 G35, so I miss some of the extra HP, but the Accord is fairly peppy and the MPG improvement is outstanding. Not easy finding a manual transmission as dealer stated Honda doesn't allow you to 'order' your vehicle. Seats are very comfortable and the dash layout is very nice. There are quality materials throughout and it doesn't feel like Honda was trying to cut cost on the interior.

A Reliable Car it is not
This is my second Accord with a major repair bill (transmission, and starter motor) before it had 60,000 miles on it. Honda does nothing to offset these repair costs (nearly a $1,000 a piece.) There are many complaints on-line re. the starter motor and yet they refuse to recall the part. They were rude and dismissive when I called Corporate to complain. DON'T BUY THIS CAR!!!!

Not the Honda of the "good old days"
It has great power, gets decent gas millage, it is pretty comfortable to drive. A few minor changes are called for and one MAJOR one. The cup holders are right behind the stick shift, so as you shift, you are constantly hitting the cups/straws/tall water bottles. The windshield wipers on mine streak alot. At about 1000 miles I changed the rubber on my dime (OEM Honda). Made no difference. The major issue is that the hands free Bluetooth software seems to have been designed by an engineering school drop out. The text reading is almost incomprehensible. No point in it since it does not make driving safer if you can't understand it. Phone book features are terrible. Update @ 44k miles: I have taken this car on several long trips >5 hrs long. The seats are not comfortable for long trips. I end up with lower back pain, hips hurt and get tight and no matter how I adjust the seat, I can't get it comfortable. Honda makes very reliable cars, I have not done anything to mine since I got it other than oil changes. I have always had Hondas and they all have had at least 200k miles before replacing them. However, my next car is not going to be Honda. They need to learn to make a more comfortable car. They get many things right, but I don't think their focus is on comfort. My highest criteria now is comfort. I can get comfort and reliability from other brands (Lexus) Update @52k miles: It's official, this car SUCKS for long trips. Very uncomfortable on a long trip I took recently. I drove about 1700 miles in a week and I paid the price. It consumes about 1 qt between oil changes, that is alot by my standards for a new car and by Consumer Reports standards as well. It is pathetic that my 15 year old Civic with 230k miles on it didn't consume any oil, but my brand new Accord has consumed oil since day 1. I'm impressed with the OEM tires that came with the car. I still have tread left on the tires, which is impressive since the last Honda I bought, the OEM tires had to be replaced @35k miles. This is a very reliable car. I have not had to do anything other than put gas in it and change the oil. I wish they would figure out the oil consumption issue with these cars. They are fixing the really excessive ones (>1 qt/1000 miles), but what about those that consume less? Not sure how you draw the line. Update @85000 miles At 60,000 miles I had to replace both rear calipers because they were frozen. Since they were frozen, they ruined the rotors. My friend has the same car and a year after I did mine, he had the same issue. Driver's seat creaks alot. Turns out they replaced them under warranty, but mine is out of warranty. So, I'm SOL. Rear wheel bearings went at 82k miles. I have never had to replace a wheel hub before 120k miles on any car. Update: 97k miles (October 2020) I replaced the spark plugs recently. They were in great shape and probably didn't need to be replaced. No new issues to report. I'm dreading going on a long trip in November with this car. Planning for a week of back pain and discomfort. Can't wait to dump this car, but it goes against my grain to sell a car before 200k miles on it. So, I will suck it up till then. Update: April 2023 (125k) Nothing new to report. Car still burns oil. It's still uncomfortable on long trips. 200k can't come fast enough so I can sell this car.
