2004 Accord LX-4 cyl--- watch out for 100K

First off, let me say I LOVE my car. I got it in 2005 with only 16K miles, and it has been babied ever since. I change the oil religiously at 3K, and it's never had any real problems, as I'm great on maintence. Then... we hit 100K in 2014, and it seems like out of no where, stuff just breaks. Again, I baby her, I don't think you could take better care of a car than I do. First, it was the breaks, okay, that's a reasonable thing, and then, my stero just goes completely blank I had to get a second one put in, which looks a little ghetto, but that's okay. Then, my battery dies, and I have to get a brand new one. I think the car is wonderful, but be ready at 100K!

Update to My Post on 4-5-04

I have now owned this car for 15 months (bought new) and here is an update to my first review. I have 43,000 miles. I drive a lot for work. Interior is still in perfect condition. Original brakes are still on car and work great! Road noise/engine noise are both the same as when purchased (very quiet). I see some complaints about the driver's seat. I love the firmness/comfort level. I drive an avg of 4-5 hours per working day and my back and legs have never been uncomfortable. Some people complain about no daytime running lights. Those are stupid and primarily found in US cars. Engine and Transmission are still like brand new. I have never regretted my decision to buy the accord.

I bought this car 2018 with only 84000 miles on it. I feel like I hit a jackpot since the car is 04. So far the mileage now is 130000 plus with regular maintenance done. This car is fast, smooth and save you tones of money on repairs. I had a timing belt done recently since I’m keeping the car.

Best car I've owned... period. Bought new, now has 96,000 miles and all I've done is change tires, put in a new battery, change oil and filter regularly, and install a new set of brakes. Still feels tight and still fun to drive; I have to remind myself how many miles I've put on it. Mileage is good: 32-34 on the highway, 22-24 around town. Very practical: I've carried 8' 2x4's inside!

I have owned this car for over a decade and the only unscheduled maintenance I have encountered was the front right tire bearing going bad. Other than that, I have generally followed the maintenance cycle and had zero issues. Front hood paint has deteriorated, which seems to be an issue on many Hondas this year and earlier. For those in the North country I have driven the vehicle through multiple years of heavy snow in upstate NY - with Blizzak tires and reasonable driving, I have had no issues staying on the road. Bottom line, a very reliable vehicle with only minor issues. I plan on driving this until the wheels fall off . . . which could be awhile!

Owning this car knowing a lot of things about Honda, I was very satisfied. The car handles incredible rain or shine. The K24a4 more could be better but I was unlucky enough to not find a v6 more that was in my price range. Even though it is a 4L the engine sounds amazing after getting a custom made exhaust. Along with that the inside of the car is great but the one issue I have is that the dashboard looks so cheap unlike the Japanese version that's in Japan. Along with that you don't get Bluetooth which sucks. Plus there's this common issue with the stock radio, I would get a after market radio which is pretty cheap and easy to install, it's a typical DIY duty. If you're looking to buy this kind of car with a manual transmission I would install a short throw shifter because Honda's typically have a long throw when you're going to another gear. The short throw shifter makes everything so smooth and easy. Plus a side note to this is that a lot of Acura TSX or TL parts are interchangeable for the 03-07 Honda Accord.

I had a wreck and needed to buy a car for under $5k the only thing I wanted in a car was for it to be a stick. My dad had found a 2004 accord 4cyl with a 5 speed manual at a dealer in Nashville that dealt in mostly exotics and Range Rovers so he had if for super cheap because most people dont drive manuals. I’ve put about 45k on it and the car has ran great. Ac went out around 115k and that was a $1,100 fix and the front suspension needed to be replace, and I recently did the cv axels but in 3 years I never had a single check engine light and it’s never left me stranded. Best car I could have bought even if I had more money to spend at the time.

I'm 16 years old, and my parents bought me this car because they knew Honda's would be reliable. I know I haven't had this car for long, but I have three older brothers, all of which were given an Accord, and I have two younger sisters who will also receive one. My dad has owned 6 Accords and we have never had one that wasn't reliable, and this one is no exception. It's great for a beginner driver because it's easy to drive. I feel safe in it, and it takes away a lot of fear in driving. The AC is fantastic, along with the radio sound quality. The 6 CD Changer is amazing as well :) I have no complaints about this car.

Recently bought my LX/4d/AT/with Side Airbags for $17900 over the internet from Twee Mai at Family Honda in Orange County, CA. Got a price that was $800 below invoice (incl. delivery). Much better price than any of the San Diego dealers would sell for. Great car that is a HUGE improvement over my old 1996 Toyota Camry. While others may think this is a plain model, I really like the high quality CD player, door unlocking with auto window opening, and smooth driving car and engine. Maybe next car will be more luxurious, but I'm happy to save the extra $$'s for other stuff.

Overall this is a great car, but a few major flaws have made me an unsatisfied owner. My Accord EX now has just over 3,000 miles and rattles like a ten year old jalopy. The rear seat, headliner, driver and passenger windows and doors, and dashboard all rattle all the time. I am actually embarrassed to have passengers ride in my new car. I have owned two problem free Honda cars in the past and was really excited to get my new one. I bought this for its quality, and now I am dissappointed because of it.

Those of you reading this are probably looking at or considering a 2004 Accord. Mine was bought new (EX V6 with Navi) in March of 2004. I commute 120 miles each day, 5 days a week. I now have 105,000 miles on the car. This is easily the best and most reliable car I've owned (out of about 23 in the last 20 years). I consistently get 27-30 mpg with the V6. I change the oil regularly myself with Mobil 1 oil. If you can believe it, I have not has so much as a light bulb burn out in 105,000 miles. Zero problems. I had the timing belt and water pump replaced by Honda as I approached the 100k mile mark. Other than that and oil and air filter - nothing. I just love this car.

I traded-in my Chevy Cavalier Coupe 02 for this beauty - 04 Accord DX, 5 speed manual; and I have never regretted this choice. Very comfortable ride, if needed can speed up like 6 cyl.; excellent mileage; I am averaging 27-29 MPG in town and 34-36 MPG on highway. I drive on curvy roads in mountains 2-3 times per week and only thing that I don't like is oversteering, which previous car didn't have any problems. I though that new tires might help, but problem still persists. I believe that weight of engine in front is inconsistent with weight of rest of the car. Only thing that I have done during the year was new tires, some minor break jobs and oil change, but this is OK since I drive 38K/yr.

I bought this car used at 20K miles. I didn't bother getting the extended warranty and 25K miles later I have not needed it. his car provides a great balance between comfort, performance and economy. Only maint necessary before 101K miles is oil chg, tire rotation & brake pad replacement as needed. Dealership maint is affordable and has been a pleasant experience. I love the 7,500 mile interval between oil changes (only on the V6 though). The engine is smooth on acceleration and provides great hwy passing power. Avgs 22-24 mpg in mixed hwy & city driving. Overall, this is a great common sense car and is comparable to most entry level luxury cars.

Hi, i just bought a used 04 honda accord ex with only 49,000 miles on it. The car has power and it drives really nice. The only problem that i have had is that the radio backlight just went dim. I guess this is a known problem with this year Accords.and the dealer said they would fix it. Other then that I hope to have a good time with this ride because I like it and Hondas are supposed to be good cars.

This car is nice looking and has a lot of nice features, but comfort is NOT one of them. The seats are hard as a rock and we cannot endure trips longer than one hour. This car stinks. It's totally worthless on a trip. If you intend to buy a new Honda you had better test drive it for at least 2 hours. We really regret buying this vehicle. It is our first, and LAST, new Honda. This is not a quality car - it's a $23,000 boat anchor. If you want to buy a quality Japanese car, look at Toyota or Nissan. Toyota has a better warranty, and has rebates. Honda sales are declining. Now we know why. We screwed up. Don't you screw up too. You have been forewarned.

My first car was a 1996 Accord EX-L. I got this one 4 years ago after a horrendous experience with a Trailblazer. It has been a blast. Good handling and acceleration. Ride is neither too harsh nor too soft. Excellent fit and finish. In typical Honda fashion, all controls are well laid out and easy to use. Leather is of excellent quality. Navigation system is excellent and easy to use. Voice command is also great. Fuel economy is excellent. I average about 24.5 mpg in mixed driving. The best I have gotten on the highway is 34. That is great for a 240hp V6. XM is great for long drives. Road noise is a bit pronounced but definitely not too intrusive.

I bought this car 3 months ago and the car is being in shop for past 10 weeks. My first problem was when i turn on the car it will make big abnormal noice in the hood. Dealership fixed it after 4 days (i waited 2 weeks to get to honda repair shop). My next problem was transmission. It will make big pushes at around 30 miles per hour (switch to second gear). again i had to wait 2 weeks to get appointment to repair shop. The other problem I had was steering wheel would not turn smoothly but will turn with bumps and makes big noice when turn left or right. It was also discovered that steering wheel fluid was leaking. I don't mention small problems.

Had been looking for a new car for quite awhile. Would have prefered an Altima. Tried out the Passat as well. Drove them all on Highway where I usually do most of my driving. The Accord is quie and responsive. I average around 31 mpg. One big advantage over the Passat is that Accord uses regular gas. The 5 speed is a dream to shift, tight and smooth. Ergonomics are well thought out. Car is quite a bit noisier over concrete pavement. This is probably a function of the tires they chose, Michelin Energy MXV4. The Bridgestone Turanza used on the coupe are a better performing and quieter tire.

I have owned 3 trouble free Honda Accords prior to buying this 2004. I cannot recommend the 2004 Accord but I am well pleased with Honda service. Bought this certified used Honda with 13,000 miles on it. Came with a 7/100,000 mile power-train warranty. The radio went out in Feb 2010. Honda replaced it free of charge. The brake master cylinder failed at 75,000 miles and I replaced it myself. Then last month Oct, 2010 the transmission failed with 77,000 miles on the odometer. The cost to replace the transmission was $3,500 at the dealer. Warranty ran out 5 weeks prior to the trans failing. After a call to Honda they agreed to pay $2,500 on this repair even though it was out of warranty. Great!

The seats have changed. The've added additonal padding in the lower part of the seat before you even engage the lumbar support if you desire to use it so you loose the option of sitting back in a flat seat. Most people's backs are flat and this seat doesn't start out that way. It forces your lower back into an unnatural forward position without using the lumbar support so after a period of time you begin to feel uncomfortable. Because of this design you can't sit back in the seat comfortably, so while your driving you are constaintly moving the seat to try and get comfortable. You can't feel this on a 10 minute test drive. Hopefully there is a fix for it.

My wife and I have only had are new Honda for exactly 1 month today, and we have already had our car towed back to the dealership twice. The first time our fuel injector went out on the vechicle while we were driving it on the interstate. Less than a week after getting the car back we had new problem and gauges had to be replaced. This is our first Honda. We purchased this vehicle because we wanted a reliable car that we would be able to count on for along time come to find out we weren't even able to count on it in the first month. Beware!!!

Went from being a Honda owner, to being a new Chrysler (nightmare) owner, back to Honda. My Honda (aside from maintenance) has never had problem 1. My daily trip to and from the office is something I always look forward to. It's comfortable, roomy for its size, handles wonderfully and even has considerable kick under the hood. I know that the guy in the Mustang GT who took off from a standing start must have been pretty bummed to see a Honda directly behind him in his rearview mirror. No lie. It lives up to all 240 horses. Go Honda, you will not be disappointed.

I submitted a rating about a year ago on this car - it was glowing. Well, no problems except ONE BIG ONE. A recall on the auto transmission. I rated the car all "1" (low), since nothing else matters if the car has a bad transmission that could cause an accident-this is in their recall notice! I asked about the reported tranny issues before I bought the car. I was told the problem was solved in the '04s. I guess not. So now, I have to have Honda put an oil jet in (my car is 2/3 of the mileage to needing a tranny replacement - so it is likely the tranny is damaged at this point - and so I just wait for a failure). THIS IS THE HONDA QUALITY EVERYONE TALKS ABOUT!!! DISAPPOINTED ! ! !

This car is a real dissapointment in the ride on a road with any bumps. It lets you feel every small crack in the road. It it a worse ride than a Chevy truck we own. The other least favorite item is the Automatic temperature control system. The only thing automatic is what you tell the system that you want. Getting it to setpoint is all up to you after that.

I bought this new and used it as my over-the-road salesman car for three years, and have had it for 4 years since I retired in 2006. I've mostly driven Chevies & Volvos over the past 50 years and this is by far the most dependable and trouble-free car I've ever owned. I have 144,000 miles on it and the only repairs I've done outside of routine maintenance has been to replace the rear struts and fix a valve on the a heater hose. The brakes have never been touched! I will pass this along to one of my kids some day. I drove it from Maine to Minn and back and averaged 37 mpg.

This is my second Honda Accord, I have owned 5 Honda products (Acura Legend, TL, Odyssey are others). This car is solid with a great ride and a bit of sportiness for a sedan of this class. The acceleration is what really stands out - step on the gas (regular!) and this car flies. TI believe it is quicker than my 2008 Acura TL off the line. I'm in sales and used the car to transport customers and factory people. Plenty of room in the front and back seats and the trunk. Only two minor complaints. 1. Gas pedal is a little too sensitive. Takes some getting used to. 2. Road noise is slightly high. But I was driving an Acura Legend before this and got spoil

Accord is overrated, overpriced, underpowered and suffers in reputation from highly aggressive dealer sales tactics. Honda cut a lot of cheap corners by omitting basic items that should be standard on a car this expensive - automatic door locks; heated side mirrors; automatic dimming rear view mirror; auto cutoff for rear defroster. It would not have cost $200 to add these items, yet all were left off to try and bump buyers into the "Acura" version of the same car for $10k more. I get irritated every time I drive it. Alleged 240 hp is laughable exaggeration. I've had four cylinder cars that had more pep.

I have drove hondas before this is the worst. I am spending more money on repairs than the value of the car. I think I am going to try a camary next. I had issues with the front axles, airbags and the car was not in ANY accidents!! Even Honda couldnt understand it, which I think was a LIE!

A quick note about this car, we traded it to my wife's mom, it has a power driver's seat and gives her enough of a boost to see over the steering wheel. I must say that this car is the only car that I have ever driven that the acceleration actually scared me. We have an '07 accord V6 that is supposed to be identical, the '04 will eat it for lunch. This car is one of the smartest purchases I have ever made. It is ironic that this "little old lady" has this sleeper.

GOOD: Best car I have ever owned - does everything well. Good compromise between handling and ride comfort (after new tires, read below). Extremely reliable and well built. Can't live without the navigation system - best I have used. Touch screen makes it easy to enter data while creeping along in city traffic. With many nav systems you must be in park or be stopped to operate, but not with this one. XM radio is voice operated. Intuitive controls. Separate driver-side and passenger-side set-and-forget temperature control. BAD: No sex appeal. Not bluetooth compatible. With automatic, easy to accidentally select third gear (D3) instead of fifth (D).

I drive very little but wanted a solid and safe car. The 2004 Honda Accord EX-L (leather) has side, curtain air bags which I wanted for added safety. After testing the Mazda 6i (wasn't very refined with 4 cyl. engine and automatic, but great brakes, handling, and ride) and the Toyota Camry LE (as boring as taking a bus--oversoft suspension and soft brake pedal feel),I drove the Honda Accord and thought it was clearly the best car among those I considered.

I have owned this V6 w/navi for over 4 yrs. and it is extremely reliable, great gas mileage w/V6 and powerful. I do have suggestions for improvement for the very near future. When this model was introduced, it lacked fog lights which I installed with a Honda OEM kit. I can't live without these lights! Another very important improvement for this car and the newest models ('09), would be an 8-way power seat for the front passenger. The front seats are angled or sloped downward at the back too much and make it very uncomfortable for people with back problems. An 8-way adjustment would solve this! I ended up lifting the back of the seat upwards with longer bolts and shims. Otherwise a fine car.

After considering the Passat and the option to buy a used BMW, Audi, etc. I settled on the 2004 Accord EX/V-6. I just picked it up this weekend. It came in PERFECT condition. XM radio is great. I bought it from Metro Honda in RI - GREAT place to buy a car - straight talk and honest! It has all of the bells and whistles one could ask for and is VERY reasonably priced. (Not to mention the good feeling knowing that there are 8 airbags in it - just in case). The V-6 really moves this machine! Safety, good performance and good price - what else could I ask for!

After 8 years in the Dodge Stratus/Chrysler Cirrus genre, I bought my first Accord. Acceleration was great but the bumpy ride and wide turning are inferior to the previous Mopars. Headlamps are incredibly bright. Fit and finish, upholstery, the small trunk and outdated trunk design leave room for improvement. Ditto for the expensive keys and inability to use power ports unless the car is on. Powertrain warranty is the worst of any major manufacturer. Interior had foul smell. Dealer tried to upsell.

I am very pleased by this vehicle for over fours year, I only replaced AC transistor unit ($150) due to I switch on and off AC too many times; Honda paid for my wiper motor last year. Fuel economy is amazing for a V6. It says 18-27 mpg but my on-board computer tells it is 23+ in city and 32-34 mpg on high way if I cruise on 75 mph. I was considering trading in this babe for a 2008 Accord V6. After test driving, I still love mine. It is more responsive and fuel efficient.

Had been looking at the new Acura TSX. I know it has 40 more horsepower than the 4 cylinder Accord, but that couldn't justify the $4000 savings I got by buying the Accord. The Accord will probably maintain its resale value just as well. The Honda dealer was willing to deal, and the Acura dealer was not. Very happy with the $500 over invoice deal.

Beats the Camry SE or XLE Hands down

Just bought 2004 EX with side curtain airbags (N/A on the 2003 Accord EX with cloth seats) for $22,999 out the door with all fees included. We also looked at a Camry SE and XLE, Hyundai Sonata. The Camry was closest, the Sonata is just a different class. The extra real life 7-8mpg, the 60% after 5 years resale value of the Honda sealed the deal. If you are looking at a 2003, look carefully at an ‘04. You get a new model year for a small bump in price and for us, the side curtain airbags (plus regular side airbags) were key. Ride is smooth and a bit more connected to the road than Camry.

For the last 15 years I have driven Mercedes Benz automobiles. Honestly it was part of my image, I took tremendous pride in the appearance of my vehicle a 500SL convertible which I had paid over 85k. At 46k miles I experienced several mechanical breakdowns so I took it to the dealer without any help: Fustrated I rented a enterprise rental vehicle (a honda Accord) to drive 500miles I was so happy I sold my mercedes and purchased this flawless Accord with Navigation system. I must admit I don't get the thumbs up from passers bye but the overall confidence of this vehicle and predictability factor is worth it!!..

Since the first day at the dealership I have loved my Honda. Honda's have been in my family for years and we can't see ourselves driving anything else.If I could have afforded two I would have bought another but for now one is enough.
