Used 2002 Honda Accord Coupe Consumer Reviews
Great car with one big issue
This car is great in almost every way the only problem is Honda paired a strong engine with a very week transmission. Other than that its completely reliable starts the first time every time in any weather. great car in bad weather. and beats anything American built around the same time period.

Dependable
I brought my Honda Accord in 2002. This car has not let me down not once! The maintenance has been only oil changes, a set of tires and I just replaced the brakes at 95,000 miles. It's the car to all when you are a single lady.
Worst car I've ever owned
21 days in the shop so far for repairs including transmission leak, rough engine idle requiring a valve adjustment and replacement of all mounts. Engine problem still not fixed and Honda's answer to the problem is to deny that it exists. Other repairs include the seat frame which was defective and rocked, major rattles requiring replacement of multiple parts and lots of foam tape and epoxy to fix, fuel gauge failed, A/c fan relay clicks constantly but never when at a Honda dealer so I'm told I have to live with it, Brakes squeal since day one. Interior panel warp and distort, arrived damages and just plain fall off
Bad Transmission
Purchased a 2002 Accord 4 cyl about a year and a half ago, had about 85,000 miles on it. Before purchasing, took it to a Honda dealership, who checked it out. They said it was in great shape. It now needs a new transmission, with less than 100,000 miles. I've never had a car with less than 100,000 miles on it need a transmission. But from what I've heard, this seems to be a recurring problem with these cars. Contacted American Honda, who said they would not help with the repair (You know, I'm not the original owner, they have no dealership maintenance records, etc etc). Why should I expect them to own up to a known problem with their cars? Will probably be the last Honda I buy for a while.
just ok
this is my 5th honda since 1988, and my fourth accord. I also had a 2000 civic si. hondas are not reliable. the 88 never had any unexpected mechanical or electrical failures. my 94 and 2000 accords were mechanical and electrical nightmares within the first year. 2002 v6 ex coupe is already experiencing electrical problems and gas mileage is below the estimate, it only has 16000 miles on it. the v6 is not as powerful as it should be. but the automatic transmission is less than an adequate performer. I would rather have this car in a 5 or 6 speed manual, which was impossible to find. there are also a number of blind spots in the car.
