Used 1999 Ford Taurus Sedan Consumer Reviews
Engine & Transmission Woes
I Purchased my 1999 Taurus SE used with 8500 miles. I noticed a significant differance in my fuel economy from my 93 Taurus that I traded in (Same 3.0 Engine) I Also noticed a excessive amount of pinging, even with the higher octane. (Dealer claims they all do it) At 30000 the transmission failed. (Thankfully while still under warranty) Think I should buy the extended Warr ???
Family and Forceful car
Ford's best Taurus. Love the engine sounds.
Bad Investment
I bought this car used from a dealership. I twisted their arm into giving me a 1K warranty and immediately I brought it in for repair. They said everything checked out fine, so I took it to a local mechanic and they said there were issues with the transmission. By the time I found that out, the 1K miles were up and the dealer only reimbursed me for some repairs done by the local mechanic within the 1K miles. 1.5 years later car still runs (barely) but the heat is gone, electric locks don't work, and I can't unlock my doors with a key in the winter cause of the internal locking mechs are bad. Do your research before purchasing a ford.
Tranny Problems Up the Wazoo
Have Had nothing but problems with this car, many factory recalls, leaky tranny after torque converter replacede by factory, tranny problems since 50000 dealer states "nothing wrong". Brakes replaced more times than i care to count, the DOC design tranny impossible to find in order to replace. Teansmission shpould be on the recall..know numerous people with same year Aand same exact problems
Reliable Car
It has been a good car. We bought the car in TX and it handled the heat there and the cold in MT. The transmission went out at exactly 100K. The suspension needs replaced now at 125K. The paint came off of the spoiler. The only place it peeled off.
