I paid $140 for this car just 2 months ago from my son ! I replaced the sparkplugs wires coil pack ,oil change and the hoses just because I wanted to do a full tune up and it really runs like new again has 130,000 miles and the A/C just needed charging and it's awsome really cold air ! I replaced the valve cover gasket because the 3.0 L DOHC Duratec V6 was leaking some oil but doesn't now and is quit and runs so smooth I couldn't believe it ! The Transmission shifts very smoothly and the body is perfect except for just normal ware from driving and everything from the power driver seat to cruise control still works today still has great take off power and can really fly for a 99 200hp V6 DOHC my son is 18 have he wants it back ! I've got $550 in it all together because I did the engine myself and bought the parts online . I thinks it's the best choice I've made on a vehicle in along time and I'm sure I'll have for 2 to 3 years and over close to 300,000 before I get rid of it !

Not great, but not bad.

Let me just say this, Ford designed their cars to last 1995-1999. I bought the car in June of 2017. It had 181k miles on it, I was skeptical about buying that high mileage, but my parents insisted it was the one. I purchased it for $1100. The seller had replaced the Windshield, left mirror, water pump, and dashboard lights. I drove the car for about a year hitting 195k miles, and at that point the rear proportioning valve failed. (This proportions flow of brake line fluid to assist in stopping) Not long after, the ABS system completely failed. The repair for the valve would cost $600. I wasn't going to put the money into doing it, as the car still stops, I just pray no one slams on their brakes in front of me, hence why I tend to follow 2-3 car lengths behind someone. I've replaced the both headlights and blinker bulbs, headlights were super easy, however the blinker lights, not so easy. You have about a 2 inch hole to try and fish your fingers and the bulb through, or you have to take the entire engine bay and front bumper apart. Stupid difficult to do. Transmission got a leak in it, and there is no way to add transmission fluid, so I patched the hole, and the car still shifts, just slips gears a lot which is dangerous. I would imagine this car off the dealership was fantastic, it still drives and handles unbelievable for it's size. The car weighs around 5,000 pounds. The interior has a comfortable cloth finish, and power moon roof which is nice in the summer. There isn't any good tech or entertainment in the car, as I have a radio with a broken tape deck. I used the cig lighter port for a bluetooth FM transmitter, gets the job done. Car drives me where I need to go, leaks oil pretty badly no matter how many times I replace the gaskets. Check engine light occasionally comes on, as it detects me getting slightly better fuel mileage than I'm supposed to, it is an emission issue. Alternator went out recently and it was also stupid to attempt a repair. They have it buried under the engine, so you have to take off the right front wheel, strut, and caliper to get to it. Not a great car, but certainly built tougher than today's cars. Now sitting at 220k miles, and transmission still functions even with no fluid.

Mechanics dream

What an absolute nightmare. The repair costs have exceeded the price i paid for this pile of crap. I have had to replace the hub and bearings THREE times, had to fix air conditioning and now the heater core is not working due to a leak. Oil pan, of all things, rusted out and was replaced. Water pump was replaced. Engine gaskets replaced. Transmission was replaced at 150km's. The only thing that works all the time is the check engine light. The wipers are work well, however they turn on randomly, making me look like a fool on clear and sunny days. I am currently shopping for a new vehicle, but i will NEVER purchase a FORD again. I'd rather buy a horse or a bus pass.

Great Car

First car and have had it for 6 months and its been great. Was just rear ended the other day at about 25-30 mph and the Taurus held up fantastic. The car that hit me was a Corolla and it was totaled but my car only has bumper damage. Has lots of room for passengers. I've driven about 5,000 miles so far and it's at 75k and no problems with the car yet. It's pretty good with gas but could be better.

This car is Terrible

I've had this car since 2007 and it has about 135,000 miles on it. I must say this is by far the worst car ever. The transmission is terrible and jolts all the time, especially in traffic. Gas is terrible compared to my old Avalon. gets around 16-17 in the city and 23-26 highway. As a college student I can't afford to fill this thing up all the time. I can continue to go on and on with the problems of this car. Never buy one ever.
