Used 1999 Ford Taurus Sedan Consumer Reviews
Pretty Good car
Bought the car after last car was hit. Liked the mid-size Mitsubishi, but high $$. I knew the Taurus and a few were avail. 81K when bought, 100K 1 year later. $1800. Comfortable, easy to get in and out and park. Decent power and for a car of this size and type it's fun to drive. These cars don't hold value and I'm not sure why - they seem reliable but are just plain. Perfect for NOT getting noticed by cops or stereo thieves. Decent for commuting or road trips. This car is roomy enough and easy enough to drive to be able to get in and drive all day.
Lasts forever
I bought my ford taurus used with 115,000kms on it. Now with 320,000kms I am considering replacing it. The frame has rusted and the tranny is on its way out. It's built tough. In accidents where other cars would've crumpled, this taurus came out with a only a few dents and some repairable alignment issues. I take excellent care of my vehicles and they do tend to last a long time. This one is the best so far.
was my grandmother's car then mother's finally our
the car was bought used by my grandmother with just over 100 thousand miles, probably around 2002, I was skeptic because of mileage and the fact I've always owned gm's. my brother-in-law and myself keep up all the service and repair for the families vehicles, so when another ford came in the picture a sinking feeling was there. I checked in out first and everything worked, it was cleaned by the dealer that sold the car, and it had been taken care of. I found no apparent problems the same held true for brother-in-law, well that was around 16 years ago and 100 thousand miles ago. yes there were repairs made, the most intensive repair was the rack and pinion. that came about 4 or 5 years ago, the car remained reliable through the years even though ford had several models with wiring insulation break downs, but the taurus didn't have the wire insulation problems. all in all it's been a good reliable car, I could nitpick it to death but I could do that with most any vehicle, the main problem with ford's to me, (were) the problems involved with accessing the parts that needed repair or replacement. now they are all a nightmare, one of the features the makers make sure they include so the dealerships can make huge bills for labor, and an endless parts on hand, for the trail and error replacement. anyway back to the taurus, it made this far of course its only worth maybe $1000 on the books but I would not sell it for $2000. something may go south the next time the key gets turned but its held its own and should have probably been traded or sold 10 or 12 years ago. BUT suppose now drive it till the repair cost go over (scrap?) it's been a good car ford or not

Nothing but trouble...
Bought this car with 36,000 miles for $6,000 and put almost $4,000 in repairs in 4 years. Always needs alignments. ABS light came on after front brakes were fixed. Replaced rack & pinion steering TWICE. Replaced heater core and heater broke again less than one year later. Mysterious rusty radiator fluid means more problems. Mechanic said, "I wouldn't put any more money into this car." Radiator overheated last night on my way to TOYOTA dealership. Now I have a RELIABLE car!
You better be ready for this...
Bought used 3 1/2 years ago with 68k. Had to repair brakes twice, coolant reservoir, heater core, wheel bearings...but the car has never stranded anyone. Know going in that this car has a lot of design defects that you need to be aware of. Brakes, transmission, coolant system (including heater), are all going to fail. I do like the car though. Comfortable and safe, and it has turned me into a mechanic.
