Rocket Fuel

1996 Ford Taurus SHO 4dr Sedan

I recently purchased the SHO model. The car sat around for a while without being driven so The computer was the first to go. Then the master cylinder. However I love this car. I named her "ROCKET FUEL" because she so fast. She Handles great and is real comfortable. Only thing is that she drinks gas like a thirsty child in the summer. I say get one if you can afford to pay for the fuel. Fords come as a case by case basis. I think some people are lucky and some aren't. I hope I'm one of the lucky ones.

Boring Car!

I bought this car because a teacher of mine said that the insurance was extremely cheap. I can't believe I bought it. It is the most plain, boring car to drive. I've owned several cars, and this is the one I'd like to see go FAST! The gas mileage isn't very good for a V6, and the interior is quite ugly. Service engine light used to come on, but I hardly drive it since I got a different car. Styling is pretty neat (at least it was in '95 when the new style came out), BUT EVERYONE HAS A DAMN TAURUS!!!!

A Lemon Can Be Red, Too...

Bought this car used with 46,000 miles on it. Have replaced all four rotors, the radiator, the AC system. AC is broken again. Thermostat has been replaced 3 times. Freeze plugs blew out on interstate highway at about 50,000 miles and had to have head gasket job. Car was in the shop nearly every six weeks from the time I bought it...

Reliability

Reliability good except for possible transmission problems in the 40 thousand miles range. Overhaul can be expensive and various computer sensors on transmission and engine will activate check engine light. This will cause a smog check inspection failure required by several states and in turn require expensive repairs to search for the sensor and replace it. Another problem area may be in the anti-lock brakes which requires expensive pump replacement if light remains on.

All lights and bulbs in car are original. with proper care the Taurus is a terrific performer. Gets 30mpg consistently. Exhaustis orig and passed emissions test as if new.
