never again!
Door handles/panels/cup holder have been reattached several times. Seatbelts get stuck so they can't be pulled out or remain pulled out and won't go back. All inside plastic comes away from attachment anchors. Cd player- replaced. Shifting from park to drive now difficult. Sun roof has gotten stuck open, had automatic door locks fixed, can not always use remote entry, doors no longer lock when car is in drive. All plastic covers for seat bolts have broken off. Makes SLOPPY turns. Handles horribly in bad whether. Dented door closing it & got a dent from a carwash! Both side mirrors broke when knocked into.
7 Year Owner Opinion
I bought this Taurus used in 1997 with about 15,000 mi. I now have almost 115,000 on it and it is starting to give me some big trouble. The tranmission is not shifting from 1st to 2nd properly and jerks. The brake pads wear out quickly.I had to have electrical work done on steering column. Fords should last more than 115,000 before they start tofall apart

I love my car!
I bought my 1996 Taurus GL used in 1999, when it had about 43,400 one- owner miles on it. Three years later I have added a lot of miles, & the car is in great condition despite the fact that it was always parked outside, frequently on a college-campus & endured a lot of long trips. I have changed the oil every 3,000 miles & the transmission fluid at 50,000 & have only replaced the brakes once, & had the rotors serviced twice.
Practical Transportation
This car has been a mixed experience. Bought it 3 years old, 32k miles. Wife's friend blew the engine a year later, idled too long on a 100F day. new engine runs better than the old one. Rear outboard seatbelt doesn't work all the time. Third row seat is very clever, good for kids. Lots of cargo capacity and better handling than a minivan.
Do not buy this car!
Dont let the looks fool you, this car is very spacious, comfortable, and has some good features. Its a bummer is that ford cut out some features on the later models like, rear disc brakes, rear vents, gear indicator on dash, and subwoofer. Also, do not go to Power Ford of Huntington Beach. I had a horrible experience with RB Bradley, who wouldnt fix my car when I told him what was wrong and threatened to call the cops on me when I refused to pay the bill until spoke to the manager who was on vacation for 2 days. Ford ESP is worthless when you have to deal with b$ to get anything fixed. For more information on the taurus check out taurusclub [dot] com
