Used 1999 Ford Ranger Extended Cab Consumer Reviews
Great truck
I bought this truck over a GMC S-15 pickup at the same dealer and I loved the Ranger. I put some stiff gas shocks on it and the biggest tire I could fit on it without a lift kit. The truck has a fairly smooth ride and was comfortable for two adults, the extended cab was nice to have for carrying small things behind the seat but not very practical for kids to sit in. Everytime I turned the key it started, the Ranger was the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. My only complaint was when I got caight up in a 36 car pileup during a whiteout from blowing snow my airbags didn't deploy, and because of this I lost some teeth and had some other impact injuries because of it. Truck got destroyed
Great little reliable truck
This was the second Ranger I have owned and both were very reliable vehicles. If were not for the rough ride and the need for a larger vehicle for a new baby I would definitely hold onto it. I've never had any problems when driving it in the last six years (90,000 miles) and got my clear through college. That is if you don't count the time I had to go through the fuel system thanks to my wife putting diesel in my fuel tank on accident.
brian's 1999 Ranger XLT
Good engine(2.5L) for gas usage and reliable with 5-speed. Console handy. Like interior and exterior. Tires nothing special, but able to get 60k out of them. ABS a + but got serviced one time (warranty). Suspension, front shocks not holding up for more than 40k. Manual trans. could be better; shifting a little stiffer and the clutch's ability to grab lags a bit. Front seats a pain to adj. back into pos. Driver seat springs worn and needs to be replaced after 70k miles, fabric held up well. New models better front susp. Truck a solid overall value. I had a few ext. warranty repairs, small stuff. I suggest the later models esp., 4L engine and 4-door a +
My 4th Ranger
Had 4 Rangers all extended cab and 4 wheel drive. They just run and run. Only repairs are tires, brakes, and sometimes batteries. Ran all of them over 100,000 miles. The first was a 2.9 engine. All others had the 4.0. My only negative is I wish the gas mileage was a little better. (14.5 city and 19 highway)

Love the truck, except transmission problems at 50,000 miles and again at 70,000 miles. I've had enough, Tacoma here I come.
