Worst transmission ever built. Worst car company.

Don't buy this car. Ford experimented with a dual-clutch transmission and it was a complete failure. Had a 2012 and 2013 Ford Focus that I bought for my kids and both were in the shop constantly due to the transmission. The 2013 had the clutch assembly replaced twice. Ford would never admit that the transmission was a flop even though they extended the warranty on it for 7 years. I contacted the regional customer service rep and they just gave me the standard line that "Ford will continue to repair the problem." What good is the car if it is always in the shop being repaired. This was my first experience with buying a Ford and it will be my last. Traded in both cars for a Chevy Cruze and a Toyota Corolla. Since Ford won't admit their mistakes and take care of their customers, I will never be a customer of theirs again. I guess the old Ford motto still holds true - Found On Road Dead. Since the time I got rid of both cars there is now a class action lawsuit regarding these transmissions. All they had to do was admit they had a bad product and take the cars back. They could have had a lifetime customer. In 2020 I am still waiting for a settlement from Ford since their transmissions were found to be defective.

nothing to write home about

I've owned this for about 4 months and I was having difficulty with the auto transmission. I looked up some reviews/ technical information and found that Ford has a fix for the transmission issue and has even extended the warranty on these to 100,000 miles. Since buying it I've learned to get around the transmission problem that I was having by feathering the accelerator or hammering it (heavy footed). This vehicle has adaptive learning and it takes a while for it to understand the way you drive (1500 miles) no matter if you're the first owner or the tenth. Overall the cars fit and finish is just ok, nothing to write home about. This is my first automatic tranny small car and I just had to figure it out. Check out that warranty, no BS on that.

Find Something Else

Purchased my car about 3 years old and about 42,000 miles. Loved the vehicle, interior and exterior looked sharp. Not to mention extremely efficient on gas. Within a year it started to have transmission issues. I brought it in as I found out it had a recall. Problem fixed. Within the next year, I had wiring issues, over $600 to fix. Well now three years out the original transmission problem has reared it’s head. However, was told they extended the recall to 150k (I am at 143k) later on to be told it was my clutch and that was only covered up to 100k. So, now looking at an almost $1,600 fix. To me it’s pretty shady that the recall is covered for two separate mileages, when the issue is one in the same. DO NOT BUY.

So i never really looked at the reviews for my focus before i bought it. If i had to do this all over i probably wouldnt have purchased my car to begin with. The car has constant issues with the transmission (which the dealer says they cant fix). i have brought it in 3 seperate times and right off the bat the transmission and everything works fine, but with time it only gets worse and worse. Along with the VERY cramped backseat you mine as well go up a model and get the fusion. Car has incredible gas mileage with is probably the only upside about this car.

Love/hate relationship

I got this car mainly because I have always owned Fords and they have always been reliable. As far as getting me where I need to go, this car is reliable. I have a love/hate relationship with my car mainly because some days it will run exceptionally smooth and some days it sounds like the wheels are going to fall off and it shakes like the transmission is going to fall out. I have heard the whole "give it a few hundred miles" speech, and well, I have given it 8,000 with no change. It's mostly when I pull out, slow down and pick up speed again, or go up a steep hill that the transmission feels like its going to kick the bucket. But when it runs smooth, it runs smooth.
