Used 2004 Ford Focus Sedan Consumer Reviews
Ford mess up!
Since April of 2005 I have had a problem with the ABS and brake light, was not fixed correctly until December 2005. The emergency brake cable snapped, the speedometer was replaced, my windshield was leaking (was replaced before for a defect in the factory glue that holds the rubber seal), a piece of the arm rest keeps falling off! The button to lock the rear power windows gets jammed all the time, fixed once before, still getting jammed! (This was a brand new car when I bought it). More new problem occruing. too much to list. I do enjoy the design of the car, but there are just too many problems with it.
Lemon
I have had my 2004 Ford Focus ZTS for 5 years and it has been nothing but a money sucker ever since. For the past 5 years my focus has randomly shut down while I've been driving and I have taken the car to multiple shops and a Ford Dealership, still no one can figure out the problem. I have had to replace the headlights twice every year, and as soon as my car hit 70,000 (this summer) my car basically lived at an auto shop (been in 5 times the past 6 months). My friend who has the same make, same year, has had all similar problems as has a neighbor of mine. The only positives I have to say about this car is a spacious trunk and nice interior.
Car of a lifetime
I have now had this ZTS 5 spd sedan since President's Day 2004 and it has 167,000 trouble free miles. The only part replaced was a passenger side engine mount and later on the pcv hose. Both repairs done by me. To top it off the car is till on it's original brake pads up front which are at 40% now. Go figure. Spotlessly clean and one of the most quick and nimble small cars I have ever driven. It loves curves while averaging 30 mpg as it is 90% freeway driven. 08/23/2022 Take it back some as the car now has 186,000 miles and I just did the first complete brake job myself. Pads Ok but rotors should be replace. Rear shoes were at 50% and fine but the last guy to put tires on the car managed to cross thread a stud which broke off. That meant one drum and one bearing which translates into two new drums, two bearings and use the Ford shoes in my stock.. Did serpentine belt and tensioner also. Doing all the work saves me a big bill as usual.
Focus is junk
This car has mechanical problems. The front stablizer link went bad at 30,000 miles along with the wiper motor &cooling sensor. At 50,000 miles the doors would lock when the car was not running & would not let me back in,neither with the key or the remote. The gages would flip and wig out when it rained. The car would jump out of gear and down shift and the gear shift would not move out of gear.Loud knocking noise coming the front and re end. When I would take it to the Ford dealership they could never find any problems when they would drive it,but How could they hear anything when the AC would be on full blast and the radio on.They thought I was Crazy. So I bought a Toyota
Great Car
Great Car! Bought used with 24,000 miles on it, now have 105,000 and had only minor issues. Pretty comfortable, great gas mileage, 2.3 delivers good power too. Only issue I have is that it doesn't do all that great in the snow.
