Best hot hatch value for the money

Total adrenaline rush to drive; fighter-jet cockpit; super fast and powerful; excellent turbo boost design; decent gas mileage even stomping on the go pedal; best-in-class handling; intelligent design inside and out by Ford SVT; great looks and exhaust sound; quality Sony sound system; A+ race red paint; perfectly matched with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 tires; practical as daily commuter with the ability to blow nearly everyone away on the open road. Absolutely the best value for the money out of all the hot hatches on the market today, bar none. Ford hit a grand slam with this car. Only wish: the larger rotors on the front brakes should have also been put on the rear ones.

The 1st 500 Miles

After almost three months of waiting on the car to be built due to delays in parts the car arrived. I ordered my Performance Blue ST with the ST3 package and a moon roof which means it came with everything. Its a very spacious car for a compact and comfortably seats four adults. The Recaro Seats in the front take a little getting used to but are very comfortable. The 6 speed manual which is standard is one of the best manuals I ever driven (a 1968 Corvette, a 72 pinto, 92 storm, 04 Corvette, you get the idea I've driven a few manuals). The Turbo really does provide the extra punch to make this car really fun to drive. GAS MILEAGE so far 25 combined MPG (80% highway) 87 octane.

Bargain family Ferrari

No, I'm serious. I have owned a Ferrari 360 Modena, a Nissan GTR, Z-cars, you name it. Economic issues forced me to keep my budget low, and this car was amazing. It handles and brakes like some of my best sports cars. No rocketsled acceleration, but brisk enough to be fun. And it still holds five, tons of cargo if necessary, and is just a hoot to drive. And surprisingly it gets almost as many looks as the GTR, though definitely not as many as the Ferrari! It cost nothing to own and nothing to run and I had nothing break in over 40,000 miles except wearing out tires, which is so much fun it's worth it. The only reason I would part with this car is to get a Ford focus RS because of the all-wheel-drive and of course better acceleration. This car is a winner, and the design team deserves praise. Update 2/2/2017: Still in love with my car. First "wear" repair was new rear brakes/rotors ($450). Odd that the rears wore out first, but I wonder if it's because of the stability control kicking in to avoid understeer in hard cornering? Anyway, still a bargain repair, as the same one in my GT-R would have been a couple grand!!! I will only part with this car to get the RS because I live in Maine and could use the AWD. I think it's also a great option that they offer a spare set of winter wheels and tires for the car so you can really enjoy the best of what it offers year-round without having to demount, remount and rebalance your tires.... Update 2/5/18: Loved it till the end, and I did finally trade it in (as I said I would) for a 2017 Ford Focus RS. Ford turned an awesome hatchback to an amazing one! Seriously, my RS has equal performance "numbers" and equal handling/braking to my old Ferrari Modena (sorry Maranello). It doesn't have the same mid-engine feel and 9000 rpm redline (and Ferrari song); but as I said above, it can carry 5, hold tons of stuff, AND now it's AWD with a second set of winter tires/wheels for year-round use. I can finally get up my (uphill) Maine driveway in winter, embarrass Porsche Cayman S drivers at all times, and still use this as a daily driver.......Touche, Ford!

Affordable performance

A great test of a performance car is driving on Italian roads. You pretty much get everything thrown at you, from super fast autostrade winding thru the mountains, extremely narrow roads with severe switchbacks, and fun sweepers thru Tuscany. Those are the places I've been driving my 2013 ST (the base model), from the Dolomites to the Amalfi Coast, and chasing a souped up Megane up the side of Vesuvius (and over taking him). This car does all of it well. It's engine is remarkable, the stearing precise, and the transmission a joy. Any complaints I have are usually over shadowed by the fun of driving this car. Point it exactly where you want to go and it will, happily. My biggest issue with this car is the entertainment system and the tech interface. I have constant trouble with integrating my iPod or phone to listen to music. Interacting with the menu for mileage, etc., is glitchy as well. With that said, this is still a joy to drive after nearly 3 years and around 50k miles. Gets great gas mileage, if you take it easy and keep the turbo needle from moving.

New car

I purchased this car new off the lot and love just about everything about it. Considering my previous car was an 06 Cobalt SS with a little over 300hp I can say without a doubt this car hits the mark for me. The electronic torque-steer assist is a blessing in my opinion and because the car is so quiet at driving speed the sound at WOT is just that much more exciting. The controls seem a little overwhelming for someone that went from a "prehistoric" design that you can find in the cobalt but realistically this car was built for the new generation and it shows. Also, the ride quality without the Recaros is extremely nice. Just remember the car was developed to handle so road feel is a given.
