We bought this brand new. Within the first 2,000 miles we had transmission troubles (hard shifting), engine problem (long crank/no start), paint chipping off and trim pieces falling off. Long story shorter, the first 40 days in the shop they couldn't fix it and actually refused to work on it anymore until it "completely broke". When it did "completely break", it took them another 20 days to fix it. Ford corporate could care less about it's produce and its customers. We wish we had our Grand Cherokee back. I'd give them less than 1 star if I could.

My wife decided it was time to trade-in the Honda Odyssey for a new "family vehicle" as our two boys have grown-up enough. I did not want to trade-in my 14-year-old Honda Accord as it is my daily commuter and works great. The only way we can get the wife to go camping with us boys is if we use a camper, so we decided to get a truck for the first time in our marriage. We did not have loyalty to Ram, Ford, or Chevy. Therefore, we went out on our search with no bias. We test-drove the Laramie Longhorn, Platinum, and High Country. We want this to be our "forever truck" so that is why we test-drove the higher level of trims. We started with the all-new 2019 Ram 1500. I personally loved the truck. The features inside were amazing and the seats were very comfortable. The kids loved the rear seats because they reclined and had ventilated seats (which the other two did not). The wife did not like it at all because the passenger-ventilated seats blew out hot air...and it was 96 outside when we were test-driving. So that right there was enough for her not to want to test-drive it again, plus the fact that it was not as smooth riding as the F-150 and Silverado. The all-new 2019 Silverado was a great drive. The ride was the smoothest of all three (and yes, we drove the same route as the dealerships are on top of each other). The seats though in the Silverado were the least comfortable out of the three, but just barely. However, the big reason for not getting it was that it did not have adaptive cruise control. They are not putting it on the Silverado until 2020! ACC was necessary as we are driving this truck from the East Coast to North Dakota quite a bit to see family. In addition, using it helps me out with my road rage on drivers who do not know how to use cruise control. If it would have had ACC, we would have given it another test-drive. The F-150 had everything we wanted. The seats are the most comfortable, the interior is not as nice as the Ram, but everything worked which is necessary. The added plus of having massaging seats are great for long drives! There are reviews about the power steering not being as responsive, but I have not had negative experiences and it feels great to me. Using the new Sync-3 is not tough to get used to, and I am no techy. The transmission is very smooth and makes the ride comfortable. The boys love the rear seats and the space they have, but did like the Ram better because they had separate A/C controls and ventilated seats. The power that the 3.5L turbo puts out is amazing and it tows the heaviest of trailers with ease. In addition, the Pro Back-up Assist helps idiots like me look like a professional! I wish the other two did that...it would save a lot of honking at RV parks and boat ramps! The wife and I both love the F-150 Platinum. She drives it just as much as I do. 1-year update: We’ve owned the truck for a year now and have put over 20,000 miles on it. 5,000 of those miles were a long road trip across the country. We couldn’t be happier with the truck. The only thing that would make it better would be separate climate control for the rear seats. The Ram offers that and would help the kids out. Other than that, the truck is perfect!

Can’t tow a trailer

I’ve owned my 2019 F150 for about 6 months. It’s an XLT Super Crew with 3.5 Eco Boost and 10 speed automatic. Up until I tried to tow my holiday trailer, I thought everything about this truck is a little better than my old 2013. Then I tried to tow. It is the least capable towing truck I’ve owned in 34 years! I would rather use the 1974 F150 I owned a lifetime ago! The back end of the truck just won’t track. I should mention here that the trailer is a 2006 Jay Flight 27bh. The GVW IS 7500 LBS. Well within the advertised capacity of this truck. I have towed this trailer with a 2014, and 2013 F150. A 2016 Ram 1500, and a 2004 Expedition. All have handled it with no issues. The first time I towed with this truck I got 5 miles down the road and had to pull over. The back of the truck was all over the place. I lightened up the leveling bars to put more weight on the rear end and it helped. I stopped 2 more times to get even more weight on the back. The trip home was the real adventure. With the water tanks now empty, and in a 15 km/h cross wind, at 95 km/h it was all I could do to hold on for dear life, using the entire lane. After owning 20 Ford trucks in the last 34 years, I am absolutely disgusted with this truck, and how I’ve been treated by the dealer and Ford. I’m going to trade it off today on a Ram 1500. Chrysler couldn’t turn me into a “Dodge guy” but Ford sure has. Honestly, if towing is something you’ll never do, it’s a good truck.

Good Truck, Terrible Technology & Advancements

I recently purchased a 2019 Lariat FX4 F-150 to replace my 2016 RAM 1500 Limited EcoDiesel. I purchased my F-150 with the 'famous' 3.5L V6 Ecoboost, with 3.54 gearing. Right from the start, I noticed the suspension was extremely mushy. The back end without weight in it kicks over bad roads. There are many forums online discussing this. Solution: Bilstein Upgraded Shocks. The completely unnecessary 10-speed tranny is god awful in hilly conditions. When driving up a hill, a Prius can pass you without a sweat. Reason being the tranny likes to get to 10th as quickly as possible and sits there. You have to jab the throttle, wait for the shift & turbos to boost, and then rack in the desired speed increase. Its terrible. On highways if you need to make a quick move, don't rely on this truck. When you hit the gas, the tranny knows you'll need a lower gear to quickly move, however it only drops 1-2 gears giving you lackluster results. Then unhappy with that, you press harder on the pedal, and the trans shifts to 3-4 gears down (YES!), and delivers you a BURST of excess power. However all of this took so long that the gap you were trying to merge into, or change lanes to, has already faded from existence. Why can we get linear power? Ford programming is so fuel economy minded, it puts safety at risk. Last caveat is the trucks electric power steering. Like all power steering system, the wheel returns to center when you loosen your grip on the steering wheel. This power steering system is so strong, it returns the wheel to center in break neck speed! Three of the other cars we test drove all did the same. If you normally let the wheel unspring itself out of a turn, don't do it with this one. Keep one hand on it. - Now the good. I've owned since new an 05 F350 which I still own. That truck is a great example of why people associated 'premium truck' with Ford. The build quality and materials were superior to anything else out there. I see that same craftsmanship in my 2019 F-150, and understand why it is the best selling truck in America. It rides comfortably (with upgraded shocks), engine delivers adequate power, and aesthetics overall look are great. If your a tech guy, who likes to customize the infotainment, consider RAM trucks. This SYNC 3 system is very limited to what you can do.

A Real Review to consider

Firstly never trust the big wig car reviews on line, They are obviously biased. Most evident in reports that claim F150 to be the better truck over Chevy 1500 with in the same paragraph that states Chevy is the more reliable. Makes no sense. If you are looking for bells and whistles in a truck that drives like a sports car, that is the purple dragon you will be chasing if you base your purchase on these type reviews. Then you have the die hard Ford fans that will defend the vehicle to the end. Being a Chevy Fan I get it! Owning a Landscaping/Tree Company for 18 years I have witnessed Ford and Dodge Trucks literally FALL APART under real life "wear and tear." So my position on Chevy trucks was not favoritism, rather "Survival" of a company as the day I sold the company it went with the Chevy trucks that were the backbone and are still on the road today with 300k miles plus and daily workers. BUT I recently fell into the influence of these biased reviews after briefly driving a Ford Transit van with the ecoboost 3.5. Impressive power and torque with the 6 speed tranny. Reviews claiming the F150 being the best "beast of a 1/4 ton pick up" able to tow 12k pounds but still be a comfortable ride with great mpg reeled me in. So I bought a 2019 Max Tow 4x4 3.5 ecoboost. Worst 9 months of my life! The 10 speed tranny makes the braking and acceleration a very unpleasant ride to say the least. Every time I got into the truck I was worried I may end up with another scratch, dent or flaking paint because someone sneezed. The cramped cloth interior stains and discolors with in a few months with little use. The polymer type plastic inside and out fades quickly and plastic door handles fell off the truck the first time I ran it through a carwash. Be careful when wearing soft souled tennis shoes as they will leave permanent marks on the plastic door panels. The claimed gas mileage of 20 plus per gallon may be achievable if running premium 93 octane, with the tranny setting in "eco mode" which is a sluggish un responsive ride even for a truck. Otherwise your average MPG is around 16 to 17 miles per gallon with the 3.5. And all though the truck may have the capability of pulling 12k, a small camper (6k) is way too much pay load for the truck and causes the rear end to sink and steering to become very squirly. Not to mention towing will put you at 6 to 7 miles to the gallon. A good choice for the home owner who drives to and from the grocery store and an occasional home depot trip for some plywood. Keep in mind the all aluminum construction will leave you with an irepairable vehicle with just a small fender bender. Ask any body shop. F150 is a cheaply made TIN CAN ON WHEELS. A disposable vehicle at best. I have since made my own decision on the Chevy 2500 custom 6.6 gas even though car critics rate it at a 3, again because it doesnt drive like a corvette or have 25 buttons across the dash or the tons of useless technologies of these other wanna be trucks on the market today. They smash the 2500 CUSTOM for low MPG at 16mpg, but what they dont tell you is the motor runs on regular gas (High Octane not reccomended) So for less that 2 miles under what you get in the glorified f150, in trade for gas that is under 2 dollars a gallon for a truck that will pull a house and is built to last!!! Point being , make your decision on CONSUMER REPORTS like this one, not a bunch of whiny car critics that give biased reviews, Hope this helps someone avoid the mistake I made.
