Nice to look at, good peppiness, but......

The vehicle I am commenting on is my 2018 F-150 Lariat 4-door short bed 4x4 w/ 2.7 gas and 10-speed tranny. Engine is very peppy- at least for me with GMC Suburban 4-speeds as my most recent experience. Shortly after buying this thing, the tranny started acting up (within 20k miles). The stealership (yes, STEALERSHIP) tried to blow it off using classic "we can't replicate the problem" nonsense. I insisted they drain the fluid, and low and behold chunks of black rubber were found in the fluid. So they replaced the valve bodies or something similar and it worked better, for a while. Still having many clunking/clanging sounds when first shifting into drive/reverse when engine is cold. Also has a strange habit of feeling like I got hit straight on by a cruise missile when letting off the gas at 75 and having it down shift like 3 gears, all on it's own. Hold on tight to that coffee! When I explained that unpleasantry to the stealership service manager at Capitol Ford/Santa Fe he asked me "what gear it was in" before it did the downshift thingy - seriously??? I would hope gear #10, right??? But the absolute worst part of the truck is "almost everything else"!!!! The touch screen console control panel is horribly non/delayed-responsive and incredibly frustrating. That issue got really bad just after warranty on it expired. And lots of other issues with window switches not working, water in tail lights, tons of squeaks/rattles/nuisance noises, tailgate step cover flies off- stuff like that to make a $55k purchase a very unpleasant memory.

The truck seems like the engineering is an after thought. They "fixed"my actuators but now I have streaks underneath the handles the tailgate latch is iffy. The interior above glove compartment warped ,and the auto stop feature isn't what they made it sound.I seriously think no one review s changes ,n profit is number one .

I had a 2018 by, EcoBoost and had nothing but problems. A big cloud of black smoke came out of the tailpipe, at first, once a week, then every other day. I had it into the shop 6 times, covered under warranty of course. I then took it to my independent mechanic and told me to trade it in. I went back to a Silverado as I previously had one for 12 years and no problems.

I really feel like my 2108 Lariat Supercrew 4wd offers many improvements over the 2013 FX4 it replaced. All of the safety features are a welcomed change. The MPG with the 2.7 in 4wd is much improved over the 3.5 ecoboost I had in my 2013. It also has a quieter cab. I also feel like these are much better looking than the competition. If you put that little 2.7L in sport mode it WANTS to go. It is fun to drive in that mode but I rarely do it for economy reasons. If you need to pass or merge though, it does it with ease. I cant think of much I don't like/would change...I wouldn't mind a column shifter to free up more space for storage in the center console.

I have the ten speed transmission,3:55 locking rear end differential and the 5.0 Coyote V8. Sounds great, pulls strong and gets decent milage doing it. As far as the 10 speed transmission goes I love it.It needs about 22K on it to break in and if you can be patient you will love the shifting. My truck has the FX4 off road package and it preforms well in snow or mud. love the locking rear end differential. I have towed quit a bit with this truck and don't baby it.However I do keep up the maintenance on it. I plan on keeping it for many years. My last one was a 2000 model. This is our only vehicle and so far it hasn’t let us down!
