"I'm king of the ranch!"
My 2016 Ford F150 Supercrew FX4 King Ranch has all the bells and whistles a man could ask for. The safety features really come in handy, especially the adaptive cruise control on the highway. The massaging and air conditioned seats are very helpful on long drives. The 3.5L EcoBoost engine is not as fuel efficient as one might expect, however, the horsepower and torque curve feel endless. The prices one pays for these trucks(the sticker price on mine was almost $70,000) are high, but that is to be expected when you cross an F150 with a Lincoln. Update: After 7 months of ownership, I have not experienced one problem with my truck. Ford quality continues to impress. 1 year update: Traded 2016 King Ranch for 2017 Raptor.

<10000 mi review of F150 Lariat 5.0l, 4x4, 6.5 ft
Only the second new vehicle out of six that I have purchased new that did not require going back to the dealer for some kind of follow up work or minor issue in the first few weeks of ownership. Gas mileage is a bit better than I expected. Very comfortable and quiet entire. Handles and corners quite well for a full size pickup. Both the V8 and the transmission shift points are very smooth, difficult to feel any vibration when touching the engine while it idles. On a flat engine surface you can balance a nickel on edge at idle. That used to be a claim for Rolls Royce engines. Well it's a little over 10,000 miles on the odometer and I've had it back to the dealership twice. Once for the free first oil change and the second time for the NYS Safety Inspection, which it passed with no problems. There is currently one minor issue that has happened about five times and that is the LED radio/phone/nav display in the center of the dash will sometimes not light up after starting; it turns out the touch sensitive controls will still work, if you could only see them. Driving a little bit and then shutting the engine off and restarting or a reboot of the of the info system while driving will reset it and it's back to working properly. I love having a truck. I now wish I would have purchased one years ago instead of the last two SUVs I had. I had a topper put on and built a raised platform for easy access to the underneath storage and the ability to sleep on the flat and carpeted back for a few days of camping. I've had as high as 24.1 mpg on a flat country road at 55 mph between two towns about 30 mi apart, lowest was 14 mpg for a week of only the 5 mile one-way trips to work in the middle of winter in upstate NY (so never got warmed up), and it's pretty easy to average between 18 to 19 mpg overall for the majority of my normal driving. On a round trip of 1,500 miles of mostly interstate driving between 75 and 80 mph I averaged 21 mpg. That was more than one mpg over what I was expecting so very happy with that.

Unreliable and quirky
I have the ‘16, XL, 2.7 liter ecoboost, with 6.6 ft bed, and the sport package. I drive 99% city driving. And get marginal gas mileage at 14 mpg (I am anything but a lead foot). I have put less than 10K miles on this vehicle and it has been into the shop 5 times. The first time because the auto start-stop quit working for a few weeks, then suddenly started working again causing the truck to turn off in traffic, and not start again when I took my foot off the brake. Had I beed in stop-n-go traffic on the highway, this would have been very dangerous. The dealership said it was a faulty battery. That doesn’t instill much confidence that this problem won’t happen again in the future as batteries don’t last forever. The second time it went to the shop, the a/c quit working. When they got to it at the dealership 2 days later, it was suddenly working again with no explanation as to why it would do this. The third and fifth time was because the infotainment system wouldn’t turn on. The fourth time was because the emergency brake wouldn’t release. Again, when they got it to the shop, it started working again. A friend of mine that is an ex-employee of Ford suggested I turn the auto start-stop system off since I do so much city driving. Since taking his advice, I have had no more major electronic component issues other that the 911 assist message rarely goes away after turning the infotainment system on. Furthermore, this truck is full of quirks. The back up camera sometimes just doesn’t work. The Sync system sometimes just doesn’t work. The 911 assist notification very often comes on when you start the vehicle and doesn’t go away, preventing use of the infotainment system. The brake pedal always squeaks. When the auto start-stop system turns the truck back on, it idles extremely rough with a lot of vibration and shake going through the vehicle. The battery is too small for the auto start-stop system. The truck rarely ever shuts off as long as a single red light. A larger battery might actually make the system add some fuel savings to vehicle. All in all, I wouldn’t recommend this truck to anybody. I’m already looking forward to the day that I trade it in on something that is more reliable and without all the quirkiness.

New 2.7L Lariat
My father recently purchased a 2015 King Ranch with the V8, and shortly after a buddy of mine bought a 15 lariat with the 3.5V6. I went in to a Ford dealer one night here in Denver just to check it out, and ended up leaving with a 2016 lariat 2.7 with the Ecoboost. Could not pass up on zero percent financing with some other pricing options! I love the truck so far. I have just over 3000 miles on it and am averaging 19.3 mpg. I have had one pretty major problem however. The engine was making a very annoying whining sound. I took it in and they actually replaced the entire front differential. They explained that they used a cheap metal at one of the plants? This was obviously very annoying to go through with a brand new truck. However, it sounds amazing after they fixed it and I have had no problems since. The truck is much quicker than you would expect, and the interior is extremely luxurious. I would say this f150 is second to none and well worth your money.

Trouble from the start
The truck has a lot of power and that is about it for the good. Now for the bad. I had a leaking timing cover from day one that was fixed under warranty and then I had to go back for a stretched harmonic balancer bolt, or it wasn't tightened enough after the repair. I have had a rough idle and surging feeling while driving at low acceleration. Drives me insane! This thing idles worse then my 98 Silverado. It didn't do it for the first 8K miles so I find that hard to believe. I also had to have the turbo replaced on the drivers side because of a coolant leak. Ford tells you that everything is normal so they don't have to correct it. Do yourself a favor and research rough idle and coking intake valves. The truck has depreciated 20k in 11 months so resale is horrible. Good luck if you buy one but I would stay far away!!!!!! All of this has happened in 11 months and 24k miles.
