I've been a Toyota/Honda guy since 1987 because I've always been very happy with their quality and reliability. When I started looking at a full sized pickup, however, I broadened my search to include Ford for 3 very large reasons: They have come a LONG way in the area of quality, their Ecoboost engines offer great fuel economy, and Ford did not take government bailout money. I originally wanted the SuperCrew, but it did not fit in my garage (about 4 inches too long). So, I went with the SuperCab. The major factor that won me over to the Ford over the Toyota Tundra is the gas mileage. Even at today's prices, I could not justify buying a Tundra that will not get better than 15-16 mpg (real world) on the highway. I've now driven my 2015 2WD Ford F150 XLT for about 1500 miles. It may be a bit too early to draw any concrete conclusion, but at this point I do not think Toyota could have built a truck that is more solid or quiet than the Ford. I've been blown away by how quiet the 2.7L twin-turbo Ecoboost engine is, and the power is more than abundant. Ride quality is pretty much what you'd expect from a truck with an empty bed when going over things like railroad tracks and other bumps in the road. A bit jittery. However, when it comes to highway cruising I've been very pleased with the smoothness of the ride. I'm also very impressed with the sound deadening that Ford employed in the cab. This thing is quieter than the Toyota Avalon that I traded for it. Overall, at this point, I could scarcely be happier with my choice. This is my first ever full sized pickup. If things continue as they have, I think I can honestly say that I will be a Ford truck buyer for life. VERY impressed with the strides they have taken to produce a product with the advanced level of quality that I've experienced in this F150. Update - 2/17/2016 - I now have about 14,000 miles on the truck and very little has changed from my earlier comments. About the only negative that I've found is that the EPA estimates of 19/26 are wildly optimistic. Around town I'm usually at 17-18mpg (probably about 50% highway, 50% in-city), and with pure highway driving I'm usually at 20-21mpg. In fact, on my last 1100 mile drive to Phoenix I averaged about 18 on the highway. I've talked to the Ford dealer about it and all they can say is, "you have to watch how you drive this thing!" The implication is that the issue is with me and that I must drive with a heavy foot on the accelerator. Nothing could be further from the truth. I'm very light on the accelerator and I always use the cruise control on long highway trips. I've also since read other reviews and the mileage issue seems to be a pretty common complaint. Fortunately, gas is cheap right now. Update - 8/29/2017 - I now have almost 49,000 miles on the truck and have been blown away by the quality. I've had absolutely no problems with this vehicle. As in, none at all. I have yet to take the thing in for any kind of warranty work. Absolutely nothing has failed. I can't remember the last time I've put almost 50k miles on a vehicle with no issues whatsoever. My biggest complaint is still with the gas mileage. Around town I seem to still be averaging around 17-18 mpg, and on the highway I'm lucky to see 23. Not much to add at this time.

Still the best vehicle I've ever owned since 1973

6th update: February 2021. With the pandemic and being retired I haven't put that much mileage on the vehicle in the past several months. Up to about 80,000 miles now. Still no issues. Before we start going far from the house traveling after this pandemic is better I'll get a new battery just because this one is over 5 yrs old. I did get some new tires. I could have waited a bit more but wanted new treads for winter. 5th update: It's August 2020. The vehicle will be five years old in November. The mileage is 75,000. The only mechanical repair I've done to this truck is a parking brake cable. I did replace the evaporative control filter located on the top front of the engine. $28 and fifteen minutes with a socket wrench. The tires and brakes passed inspection last November Still in the green. The Ford garage has green, yellow, red rating. I'm thinking that they will also pass this November. If they do I'll be at least 85,000 miles until the next inspection. I find this pretty amazing. Still running smoothly with no issues at all. MPG sill avg. 21.5. I'll consider a battery replacement within a year just to not chance getting stuck at some point. This is still the best vehicle I've had in my lifetime, since 1973. No rust (Maine) with Krown undercoating. definitely the most cost effective. 4th and yet another update. Edmunds send an email and asks me to do this once and awhile. It's Aug. 2018. All that I've written below is still true. No issues. I poked and rear brake light by accident, my fault. Purchased one on Amazon for $89 and it installed in about 10 minutes with two screws. The dealer one was much more expensive. The truck will get one more year on the tires. They'll last through 60,000 miles. Still with plenty of thickness on the same brake pads. probably get 60+k out of them too. No issues at all at this point. Really happy with this. Gas mileage seems to be dropping a bit over time. My mixed 21.5 mph is now around 20.5. Maybe the engine is just beginning to wear a bit. 3rd update It's early 2018, the vehicle is 2015. About 40,000 miles on at this point. Still no issues. I dropped my review a bit in the technology area. Not a big deal, but the vehicle is made so that the USB ports don't have power if the vehicle is off. So, the trac phone I have plugged in will run out of juice over a few days if the truck isn't used. I have to run the truck a bit then re-turn it on. The rest of the stuff is fine though. This is the sync system. Not super great but it works fine, and voice activation doesn't have the personality of my Amazon echo but it's functional. The 2016 version of the f-150 had upgraded to carplay. I understand that's much better. Since I'm only talking about the usb port you can probably guess that I've not had any other issues with the truck. Still the best vehicle I've ever owned and it still rides like driving my living room. Long, sometimes 5000 mile trips roaming the country with our cargo conversion camper is a real pleasure in this vehicle. Fingers crossed until the next update. 2nd update: In four months it will be 3 yrs since purchase. So far so good. No issues with the truck. It still rides, handles, and looks like new. I'm still delivering it once a year to a place in Vermont to do a Krown undercoating, a Canadian undercoating chain. It's penetrating oil based. On those places where heat builds up, like the muffler and differential bell housing, rust spots developed (yes even on the stainless muffler, It's the heat I'm told). I've primed and painted with 2000 degree rust oleum. It's staying on. I'm still loving this vehicle. Fingers crossed for longevity. Update: One year later and I still love it. Issues: left rear backup sensor fires after going through the car wash or a heavy rain when I back up. Stops after it dries. I came off a lifetime of chevys with two being trucks. The last silverado I owned (2003) the frame rusted out at 84,000 miles. Couldn't get it inspected. I don't know what happened. Same garage, roads, and care as my tahoe that had double the mileage and three years older but no problems. Anyway.... This vehicle is quiet, has nice ammenities in the interior. I tell people "It's like driving my living room." The fit and finish are very good. Mileage after 12,000 miles is consistently (calculated by hand) 20.5-21.5 mpg. When I pull my cargo trailer it drops to 12.5 but it's not the weight, it's the drag. The trailer is v-nosed but tall. The v8 is reliable and seems plenty powerful. The only issue is that when using cruise control on hilly areas when towing, it downshifts sort of hard to drop the speed. Then again I don't use cruise control much on hilly areas. I've driven it a lot around town and taken trips that put 5000 miles on it in a few short weeks. Great vehicle so far. I learned to hate my Silverado. I love this truck and so hope not to learn to hate it. Time will tell. BTW.. this one is getting a yearly dose of Krown undercoating.

Bought a new 2015 XLT 2.7 ecoboost for a great deal. 42250 MSRP and with 7K discount and 7K rebate paid 28K for this truck! First new vehicle in 27 years. Unfortunately it spent 33 days in the shop out of the first 90 days of owning it. It shut the engine off while driving 3 times. Now after 3 repairs attempts it shifts irregularly now and then. Great design and most have no issues but this one was just not one of those without problems. Highway mileage is awesome, acceleration if really great. Roominess cant be beat and the camera spoils you. I did not like the 8 inch screen that only uses 2 of the 4 boxes if you don't have navigation and climate control, kind of a waste. Ford bought my truck back after the CA lemon lawyer took care of handling it. Decided to stay with used vs new.

My 2015 F-150 is plain out awesome. Ford engineers out did themselves with the redesign of this truck. From the aluminum body to the engine choices, this is one high tech machine. The 5.0L engine has brass ones compared to the 5.4 in my previous truck. It sounds sweet too! The interior is superior to any other truck out there. It's super comfy but also designed for the working person. No chintzy little buttons here. It's a work horse disguised as a luxury vehicle. I've always owned Ford trucks. I had my last F-150 for 14 years. No body rot or major issues when I traded it for the 2015. Actually the only reason I still don't have it is because I fell in love with the 2015 model and just had to have one. I have no doubt it will last me just as long...if not longer. UPDATE: After 2 1/2 years of ownership I'm still lovin this truck. It has been flawless and has never had to go back to the dealer since the day I brought it home.

Outside looks very nice,BUT rear bed sits way too high for my likes.i plan on lowering rear height a couple of inches, ride is a little bouncy with empty bed but was to be expected. one big complaint is for almost $50,000 you dont get the 2 speed 4wd Auto system in an XLT,to me it makes having a 4WD almost useless for any on road driving,or having to keep turning it on and off all the time as you run into dry pavement at times, come on Ford all 4WD systems should have the 4WD Auto setting, most of us dont take them off road,we need to just set it and forget about it in Auto setting. I have the fold down console whiuch the headrest blocks the cup holders by the floor when down,my 2011 ford cup holders pulled out past the headrest,so no problem, new design sucks, along with that why were the headlight switches moved so low, hard to operate there, also the new AC vents are not as usefull as old ones, feel truck has moved backwards in design since owning a 2011 XLT to compare it with. I am getting 18MPG city driving with the 5.0 V8 and 21 on highway,i have no complaints with that, love the outside looks of truck and get lots of complements on the Ruby Red Metallic color,so heres hoping i will get used to its little flaws IMO,and that it dos not need any warranty service,as i did with my 2011 XLT ,thats another story, Well here is NEW update,I have now had truck for about 8 mos.and i love this truck inspite of some of the things i had mentioned when i first got it new,you get used to things after awhile,so far i have only had a problem with hard downshift from 5th to 4 gear, but that has mostly stopped but took almost 4000 miles before trans programed itself, still getting 18 miles to the gallon with the 5.0 very happy with that, the blocked cup holders i mentioned I &solved by removing headrest to fold down console,I never use it as a seat anyway, still trying to decide how to level truck, raise front or lower back ? lol, It does ride great as is,and has not needed to go back to dealer for any warranty work so far, just oil & filter change, which costs WAY too much at Ford Dealer.UPDATE 10/10/2016 still great, no problems, lowered rear by removing blocks under springs, looks great now almost level, no change in ride, the 5.0 engine exhaust sounds really good with stock exhaust system on it,still vary rare hard downshift from 5th to 4th,so have not had ford dealer reprogram trans computer, there is a service bulletin for it,that ford has out for the problem.UPDATE 04/2017 truck doing great,no problems at 16,000 miles, just oil changes and tire rotation, the Goodyear Wranglers are holding up very well too ,still loving the truck.UPDATE 12/2017 Truck still running great, now has 22,000 miles on it. NEW UPDATE 12/2019 still own truck, and it is doing great,no issues,a couple of minor recalls, still have original Goodyear tires on it at 40,000 miles still very good tread left ,did lower back of truck by removing blocks under springs, looks better now,did have to get Ford dealer to reprogram shifting of trans ok now, just installed new battery in it lasted about 5years,Still Lovin It !😃 And it's almost paid for lol .Another UPDATE 6/2020 Still very happy with truck, now 5 years old no big issues, still factory Goodyear Wrangles 43,000 miles, should last 1 more year, shocks starting to feel a little soft, just had new Bilstein 5100 shocks installed all the way around, with front adjustable to raise front end up 2" now finally leavel, shocks great ,huge improvement in ride, all in all it has been a great truck for 5 yrs now, hope it continues 😉🙂

Power Loss - Violent engine shake\shutter 10,800 k

My truck is 6 months old and has 10,800 miles. As in drove home from work during rush hour traffic the engine shut down and went into "limp mode" at 65 mph. There were 3 warnings icons: #1 Service Advancetrac, #2 Wrench Icon "see manual", #3 Hill start assist not available. Later the engine light came on. Ford Roadside towed the truck to the dealer, my research found 100 of complaints about is engine shutdown on Ecoboost engines. The engine will idle at 1000 rpm extremely rough, but pressing the gas pedal does nothing. Very dangerous when driving in heavy traffic, as all you can do is coast to a stop. Turning off the engine and restart did get the engine moving for another mile before it shut down again. Beware of this for your safety and your family. I also saw another review here with a similar issue, so it may not be insolated. *****UPDATE******* June 2016 Problem was the THROTTLE BODY. Dealer replaced under warranty.

. The 2015 King Ranch SCREW 4x4 Off Road is now at 160, 500 miles. I've had my first engine repair event at about 160,100 miles after the truck began to idle roughly at traffic lights or stop signs; especially after running down the highway at highway speeds. In researching the internet, I became reasonably sure the culprit was the VCT (Variable Cam Timing) solenoid(s). Unfortunately for me, my truck never threw a code and many repair shops are loathe to attempt repairs without a code. Finally, the engine reached the point the issue was able to be diagnosed without the code. I had all 4 VCT solenoids replaced, new spark plugs installed (I had plugs replaced previously at 100,000 miles) and an oil change. Truck now runs perfectly again. While the symptoms of the problem resemble ignition issues or bad gasoline it turns out VCT solenoids are oil pressure sensitive...I have always changed my oil regularly at 5,000 mile intervals but he symptoms in my engine became more noticeable as my engine neared the 5,000 mile interval. Except for factory maintenance and consumables like brakes, shocks, a battery, a K & N air filter and an upper radiator hose this is the first mechanical issue I've had with the Coyote engine. Given it took over 160,000 miles and has run perfectly for the 500 miles after the solenoids were replaced I still feel this is the best truck I've ever had. My mechanic reported there was no sludge or varnish buildup under the valve covers...the top end of the engine was clean. All of the remaining bells & whistles on the King Ranch still function perfectly. That F150 has been a hell of a truck. The 2015 King Ranch SCREW 4x4 is now at 186,000 miles. It still runs perfectly and all functions perform perfectly. I did have an issue with the oil pan...I think the pan bolt was cross threaded during an oil change as it began to leak small amounts of oil. I tried to tighten the bolt...I couldn't move it either direction. Took it in for an oil change and told my mechanic we might have to chase the threads on the pan. Turns out these pans (mine is metal) are so thin walled that chasing the thread was not a good option...so I had a new oil pan installed. No more leaks or issues! At 193,000 miles the torque converter began to fail and the transmission began to struggle to figure out what gear it should be in. I had the transmission and torque converter replaced with a genuine Ford rebuilt system. The rebuilt Ford system was only slightly more expensive than other aftermarket systems but carries a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty backed up by any Ford dealer anywhere in the country. I also had the right side ball joint and right hub bearing replaced. Some years ago I hit a piece of concrete in the freeway so hard it actually blistered the right front sidewall of brand new Michelin ATs...that may have had something to do with those parts needing replaced. The SCREW still runs well...all other systems still work as new.

I bought a Lariat almost fully loaded; FX4 package, 4x4, LED headlights, Heavy Tow Package, deployable running boards (love that feature), box side steps (handy), tail gate step, and all the LED lights around the perimeter of the truck (have helped me a great deal when working at night.) I came from a BMW 530i Sport, so I actually enjoy the stiffer suspension. The only reason I would say it's a little too stiff is the rear end can jump over large bumps. If you tow or load the bed then the suspension works perfect. I have towed 5500 lbs and the truck can pull like a train you won't even know you have a load being towed. I bought the truck because I am starting a new business and can't afford the time to go to a repair shop even if it's warrantied. In the first 2000 miles: the 1. Driver side mirror shakes above 45 MPH, the glass jiggles in the wind while the passenger side is firm. 2. Started hearing a bearing noise from the front end and getting vibrations. 3. Transmission slams into 1st gear, almost feels like the car behind bumped you. 4. Passenger side deployable running board makes a whining noise, driver side does not make the same noise. Took to the dealer. Dealer replaced driver hub bearing, and 4x4 actuator. LESS THAN 5000 miles. Re-program transmission computer, transmission shifts better, but still bumps intermittent. All other complaints were said to be normal, LOL, even when one side does not have a shaky mirror and one side the deployable running board is smooth quiet. This is what you will be dealing with if you buy one of these seducing trucks. Fuel mileage is poor, 16.3MPG driving like a gentle giant. Highway mileage is 25MPG cruising steady below 60MPH, if you drive above 65MPH you will average 16-18 MPG, at least I do in my truck. I do not have confidence in reliability long term. I am also tired of lazy warranty techs saying everything is OK, when it is not OK. Truck now has 32,000 miles, transmission shifts are jerky and erratic at times. Too much slip from the torque converter, dealer reprograms transmission as a temporary fix every service. Hub bearing makes light whirring noise, dealer says that's normal. Door lock actuator intermittently fails on passenger rear door. After taking it in 3 times and having parts replaced, I gave up! I still stick to my saying... If you love pigs with lipstick then this is the truck for you!

Great truck with a peppy efficient engine

Great truck with a peppy efficient engine, the 2.7L engine is surprisingly powerful and extremely quick off the line, I love the engine on this truck! I average a little over 21 MPG with mixed freeway and around town driving conditions. I have tried to be excessively light on the accelerator but have not even close to the advertised 23-24 MPG, they must have done the MPG testing where there are no hills, wind, and on any engine that was well broken in. Overall though I really like the truck. The one thing that could use improvement is the instruments. Climate control could have a digital read out ( ex. 72) versus hotter/colder. Browsing on the radio ( Sirius in particular) is a little clumsy. The dash seems to have a lot of unnecessary buttons. My biggest complaint is the autostart button, just plain annoying and screams replacement starter in 2 years. To have and turn it off every time you start the truck is silly, they should have a permanent off option. Overall pretty small complaints for for what has been a great truck. 7/25/2016- had to get the door handle replaced, it literally just fell off. Ford was quick to replace at no cost. Very happy with the way they handled it. Considered selling for better MPG vehicle with new job change, but I am completely upside down. The truck is worth considerably less than I paid for it, definitely does not hold value like my Toyota did. If you buy this truck be prepared to keep it since value tanks very quickly.

I loved the 2015 Tacoma TRD Pro w/ custom leather, my wife said it was too small. I liked the 2015 Tundra Limited - not enough / if any? features to warrant the cost. I loved the 2015 GMC denali exterior, bad ass! The GMC interior was like walking into a 70's house with shag carpet. The 2015 F-150 - I didn't like the exterior design and started to look for the 14's. I couldn't find what I was looking for, so I test drove a 2015. Once inside, I can honestly say I was in awe. The interior of this truck was without a doubt EXACTLY what I expected a truck of this caliber. Safety features galore, comfort above and beyond, technology that out weights competition 10:1. I have massaging seats, Lane assist that keeps me from swerving, Running boards that retract when I open and close the door, Heated rear seats, My headlights are on Auto Bright and detect on coming cars so I don't have to switch from dims to brights, Adaptive Cruise Control, Turbo Engine, LED lighting... OverHead Parking Assist as if a drone is above my cab showing the entire truck surroundings front, back, both sides!!! Please ask me what else, it goes on and on. Tundra's back window goes down, cool. GMC? the interior looks like my buddies 97' Grand AM. The exterior redesign has grown on me, its starting to look more like a transformer - however I'm not a comic book kind of guy. Truth be told, the interior sold me so much so that I could be in a bright pink school bus and not even care. I get compliments non stop on my truck, and people really do turn their heads (maybe because its ugly, or maybe because its nice). I'm ending my review here because I personally wouldn't read past this point. Please trust me in that the 2015 F-150 Platinum is hands down the best truck in its class. If you don't believe me, just go test drive one and try to bash it agains competition without bias, it's impossible. Expensive? Sure, but you wouldn't be reading a review about the Platinum Trim if you couldn't get one... go get one.

I grew up driving a Chevy heavy-half ton and used to tease Ford owners. But I'm an adult and decided to buy the best truck regardless of it's badge. I have never seen a pickup truck amaze people like this does. I'm averaging 21 mpg, my best tank was 23 so far. I do drive it easy, maybe 70% highway but I get into traffic and live in hilly Western PA. The fuel economy is impressive, but this thing has a lot of power, especially out of the gate. My friend was not happy when I bested his GMC v8 two weeks ago. If the aluminium, turbos and auto-start/stop don't impact reliability too much, then this truck has made all the others obsolete. Only time will tell, though I trusted that Ford engineers would do their homework cause their betting the company on it.

Lemonade

2015 Ford F-150 Lariat 4dr SuperCrew 4WD 5.5 ft. SB (2.7L 6cyl Turbo 6A)

A brief summary: a great looking truck with a lot of technology (that sadly doesn't work) Almost fully loaded Lariat. Performance: Acceleration and braking are average; acceleration being modest except when put into Sport mode. Road holding and steering are quite good for a truck. Shifting is sometimes abrupt and not always intuitive (has failed to shift multiple times) Comfort: Road noise reduction is excellent (3.5L Twin Turbo is quiet and tires are exceptionally quiet). Aside from that, seat comfort is average, though not suitable for long drives. Interior: Lots of room for movement. Lots of storage everywhere. The rear cab is obscenely large, much to the joy of passengers. The logic of controls is poor; there are duplicates of buttons, some of which also have soft keys on the display. There is also no need for 6 buttons to operate the cruise control. Safety Features: Incredibly bright headlights (LEDs), the blind spot monitoring system works very well, and the truck itself does not have terrible blind spots. The traction is sub-par in weather (snow/ice/rain) and gets squirrelly easily (even with 4WD/AWD) Tech: All seems about average. The voice commands load quickly, only minor issues are with the entertainment center; radio occasionally cuts out and the sub-woofer audio package is incredibly underwhelming, along with trouble connecting to devices. All sections of Reliability were given a 1 star, as nothing has been reliable. I have spent more time than I would care to admit driving a loaner Focus, and found that to be incredibly reliable. Repair frequency has been more the 2x a month. Dealership support has been decent, though most issues are unable to be resolved or the dealer simply resets the computer (which does not solve anything other than clearing codes). Engine is incredibly unreliable. It stalls, it doesn't start (often) and it lies about it's fuel mileage. Transmission can shift worse than I did when I was learning to drive a Semi. Technicians have said the transmission "learns," but I would say it is "learning" the wrong way (getting worse). Electronics have literally shut off while the engine was running. This included power breaks and steering. Ford said it was nothing to be concerned about. Currently has spent 53 days in repair since purchase for anything from minor defects (radio cutting out, AC on seat getting hot and melting, etc) to completely unacceptable defects (engine stalls/dies while driving or idle-ing, ALL electronics TURN OFF while truck is on, etc). Obviously a lemon, but not according to Ford, which has been very un-helpful concerning their responsibility to consumers, State and Federal laws (yes, lawyers are involved). All in all, 1/10 never buying a Ford again. (1 is for looks)

oil pan gasket leak on ecoboost engine F150

Oil pan gasket leak first noticed at 48000 miles and didn't realize it was under warranty. Got worse at 62000 miles. A plastic oil pan with a silicone seal? Are you kidding me! This was on the smaller 2.7 ecoboost engine. Apparently this is a major problem for the 2015 F150.

I purchased a F150 at the end of the year ( 2015 ) and got a great deal . About two weeks ago my truck was going 45 mph and then locked up and would go no faster then 10 mph . I turned it off and everything seem to be ok for a couple of weeks . Then it happened again and I was almost re ended . I had to drive all the way home at 10 mph . The truck lurches back and forth with the truck screen say Service Advance Traq . This truck is dangerous . It is currently at the dealer and they have determine that the throttle assembly is broken . I think it is many other problems . This is all computer related . The part is on back order ,,,, whatever that means . After the first month the truck started making engine noise and is very weak with not much pickup . The rpms rev up and the truck hardly moves . The A/C is lousy as well , It doesn't seem to work all the time . Back doors are also annoying to open and close . I had a Tundra for 8 years and I needed to get a new truck for my business . I replaced the A/C fan , tires and brakes and that 's it . I had 140,000 miles on it . I needed something reliable , this Ford is a huge mistake . I paid 38k for this pile of junk . It lasted a whole 6000 miles . I'm currently in a rental Ford Escape , I'm so upset .

well like many conscientious shoppers that do their research before they buy something that costs a lot of money. I have approximately 25k miles on it and so far not one problem! the 5.0 is very responsive and I am averaging 19mpg in mixed driving. on a long 600 mile trip I averaged 21mpg @70mph.i pull a 21ft camper that weighs about 5000 lbs. loaded and it pulls it with no problem averaging about 15mpg doing 65mph. the transmission shifts very smoothly a lot smoother than my previous Toyota Tacoma did. I recently had a test of the brakes when it was raining and a dog ran out in front of me and I slammed on the brakes. the abs worked wonderfully and I am happy to say that the dog will live to see another day because of that wonderful safety feature! the ride is pretty good for a truck maybe not lexus like but very good on a long trip. I love the backup camera and the parking sensors they have saved me a couple of times already. and hitching up my camper is nice once you get the hang of it. the a/c will run you out of it even when its 100 degrees outside. I love the oil monitoring system and even though the dealer wants me to come in every 5000 miles for an oil change I find that I can comfortably go 7500 miles using full synthetic oil. all in all I like my f-150 and plan on keeping it for many years. we will see about the long term reliability and hopefully this truck will last 200 or maybe even 300k miles? I have been noticing that I see far more older ford trucks on the road than I do of chevy or dodge. I recently saw an old guy driving what must have been a 1969 ford f-100 ranger it was a little rusty but it was still running great. says a lot about ford products. just my two cents worth. well updating my previous review. I now have 42,000 miles on the truck now. still no real problems!! very little maintenance other than oil changes performed by the dealer. I am getting ready to update the front brakes with some slotted/vented rotors and some premium semi-metallic brake pads. I would buy another F-150 without reservation. so far the re-sale value has held up. my truck is still worth 25k$ according to KBB. well my updated review is that I now have 51000 on the truck and so far no issues but regular synthetic oil changes @ the dealer Loganville Ford. I also recently had the dealer change the rear end oil because I do tow a 8000lb. trailer from time to time. I will probably have the transmission serviced around 60 or 70,000 miles because I plan on keeping the truck for a long time. the sync system does act a little crazy from time to time, but no real big deal there. mechanically the truck has been very reliable . I did upgrade the front disks to some slotted and drilled ones with some premium semi-metallic brake pads. it did improve my braking!! overall I would buy this truck again and I think ford makes a quality product . I previously owned a Toyota Tacoma which was a really good vehicle and I owned a Toyota Camry which went 300k miles. I hope to get 300k from my F-150?? time will tell!! well I have 63000 miles now as of 9-15-19 and so far its been a good truck. just regular maintenance . transmission fluid change @59k and new spark plugs@61k. I also put a new flowmaster dual exhaust on it, which makes the V-8 sound awesome. would I buy it again. yes I would! well i am here to update my review on 9/18/21. truck has almost 79 k miles and the only real problem I have has is a a/c/heater diverter motor that went bad(clicking noise) cost about 300 bucks for dealer to replace. other than that my 5.0 seems to keep right on purring. hoping to get 300k miles out of my baby!!!

Aluminum Body F150 Not all its cracked up to be!

Every few years my boss will replace my company truck with a new one. He is a die hard Ford fan going all the way back to something GM did to him back in the 70's. Because of that I have gone through the last 3 generations of the F150 (2003, 2010 and now the 2015). My job requires a truck, but it doesn't require me to use it to haul much very often. About once or twice a month I will move product around in excess of 1000-1200 lbs and maybe as much as 4000 lbs including a trailer. My first trip with a load was with 1200 miles on the odometer. It was a personal trip from KC to Ohio to pick up a car I purchased. It was an old Monte Carlo (3300lbs) and I used a dolly to pull it back. 99% of the trip was across I70. Within just a few miles of picking up the car I got my first scare. I was on a two lane going about 50-55 mph and came around a gentle right hand corner with a group of trees blocking my view all the way through the corner. Part way through I realized there was a raised RR track coming up and I needed to slow down. I probably had a half mile but was taking it pretty easy getting used to the feel of the car and dolly behind me. I applied the brake to start slowing up the truck while still coming around the corner slightly. The truck felt like the back tires came of the ground! It pushed over to the left as if I was on a patch of ice. My first thought was that I made a big miscalculation and the car was to heavy for the truck. The tow capacity for my truck is supposed to be 7600 lbs as optioned though. The hole trip home was a bit nerve racking. I got used to the trucks response to the weight behind it and figured out that the biggest issue was turning. The rear suspension is so soft that any side load pushes the truck in a manner that would make you think you have two flat tires on the back. It a straight line, it feels much better, although still very soft. I was not filled with confidence and conceded to the fact that I was going to be making a slow trip home in the right lane with the cruise set at 60-65 mph max. It was very slow going anytime I came into a city or road construction. I had to make sure to give myself plenty of room so as not to need to make any emergency maneuvers as I was positive the truck would not tolerate it. I ended that trip wondering if it was the car, the trailer, or something else that caused the truck to be so squirrelly. Since then I've used the truck a few time with and without a trailer to move different size loads round KC for work. On one occasion I had a new Honda Rubicon fourwheeler in the back. What I've learned is that anything over 300, maybe 400 pounds depending on how it's loaded in the bed of the truck, and about 1200 lbs trailer weight turns the truck into a big mush box. It is always fine in a straight line, but feels like it wants to slide out or tip over if you go around a corner that gets a little tight on the highway. My feeling is that FORD has worked so hard to make the F150 a comfortable daily driver that they have gotten to far away from the truck actually being a safe truck to use for work. The suspension is tuned to be soft and that makes it weak when you put a load on it. The ecoboost engine (2.7) that I have is very strong and responsive if you call on it to provide that. I was supposed to get something like 18-19 mpg overall. Not even close. The Ford gauge likes to tell me I'm getting 17, but it is incorrect. If you calculate the mileage, you typically get between 1 and 1.5 mpg less then the gauge states. My current overall average of mixed driving is 16.3. If you really work hard at it, and I mean work hard, you can squeeze out 18mg out of a tank. The aluminum body is noisy. The roof makes all sorts of noise in the wind on the hwy. Sounds like a metal HVAC duct popping as it heats up when your heater turns on in the winter. Except it isn't one pop, its multiples. And at around 10k miles on the truck, the bed starting making a popping sound when I drive over and uneven surface such as pulling in or out of my drive. The F150 is no longer a worthwhile truck in my opinion. It's loaded with neat features and the cab is comfortable. There are more electronics then every before that I am concerned about based off of previous experience (Ford electronics seem to have a short life expectancy for some reason). The cost of this truck compared to others was quite high. Insurance cost went up about 25% because of the aluminum body. If I was making the decision and it was my money, the truck that replaces this one will not be a Ford.

This is a great truck. Never owned one to compare it to but buddies have them and I grew up around them so am familiar with their positives and negatives. Ride comfort is great. Technology packages work as described. My wife loves it so why would I complain. Traded in a 2013 Wrangler and the difference in hauling/towing capacity as well as ride comfort and style make this a great purchase. Not to mention I get better MPGs in my F150 than I did in my former Wrangler. The dual panel glass roof really sold me, good work there Ford. Overall I highly recommend to anyone looking for a truck. At least take one for a spin. Go for the 5.0 V8. Same if not better than TT ecoboost.

Never Again for Ford

Purchased a 2015 Ford F150 XL Ecoboost 4x4 Sport ten months ago. Within the first two months, on my way to work in the woods, every light on the panel lit up. Truck went into "limp mode". After taking over an hour to get home (I was only about 20 minutes away), I called roadside assistance and set up for a tow to the dealer. Tow truck came within an hour and off to the dealer we went. I was given a loaner and told, "we'll call you when we know what's wrong". Days pass and after no call from the dealer, I called them to see what was wrong with my new truck. They said, "Nothing, no lights came on". I got real upset because I knew they didn't even drive the truck. I asked how did they come to that conclusion? They said, "the computer shows no codes". Now I went off and told them I'll be right there and your service manager will go for a test drive with me. They said no, they'll take it out. Two hours later they called me to tell me my truck has a serious problem that it did in fact "code up" while being driven. They told me they needed to order a very hard to get part; a Throttle Body". A bit of history with Ford and the bad Throttle Body parts they use. In 2013, after numerous customer complaints, NHTSA went after Ford for their use of bad Throttle Body parts. In short, they did a "Customer Satisfaction Program" and replaced the defective Throttle body parts, and extended the warranty on the part. NHTSA NEVER made FORD do a formal recall even though thousands of cars and different models were affected. The "Customer Satisfaction Program" expired in November 2015, but guess what? Yup, Ford continues to use the defective parts in their new vehicles. My F150, my friend's Explorer, my other friend's Edge, all had Throttle Body failure soon after purchasing new vehicles. I wish I did this research before I bought the truck, but knew nothing about the Throttle Body issue to look into it. Now, month 10, the transmission is failing and fast. I stop at a light, give it gas to go and BANG followed by a jerk. Took it to the dealer, and since they couldn't get a "code", they said no problem. You are to drive it until it's dead and must be towed in. Not very reliable. Last weekend, Columbus Day, I took the loss and got rid of it. Traded it in and went back to my Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 4x4 that never gave me a problem. NEVER, ever for Ford again.

2015 f150 Platinum 3.5L, disappointed...

Owned the 2015 f150 Platinum 3.5L Ecoboost for 9 months/14,000 miles, 3/2016 sold 11/2016. Being 6'5" could never get comfortable compared to the previous 10 f150's and 2 f250's owned. Lane departure stopped working 2 months into ownership, front rotors have gouges, right side of windshield had a waviness blemish between ply's, engine developed an oil seep, seat backs are thin, you can feel all of the controls, wires etc. for the massaging seats in the back and they squeak. Cooled seats stink, heat works well. Drivers seat leather starting to fade and all seats are so slick that all contents end up on floor under moderate braking. AND the aluminum body, forget it, it actually looks like it has dents/ripples all over IMO, creases around door handles, poor fit and finish and the hood actually bounces going down the road due to min stiffeners. Using adaptive cruise control on the highway, around corners, can be tricky if there is slower traffic in the lane next to you, the FLIR see's the traffic as being in your lane and clamps on the brakes, not a warm and fuzzy feeling. Ride is horrible over rough roads and the back end is so light it feels dangerous but man is she quiet inside if the sun roof rails aren't squeaking (requires several opens and closes to "reset" it. When standing in the bed you can hear it bend, moan and groan, I am only 215 lbs. MY BAD for dropping 49k on the POS! live and learn. Traded it in for a 2013 f150 5.0. LOVE the 2013... LED's are way cool though, that's about it... I am in aviation and pay extreme attention to detail and baby all of my vehicles. Again, I'm a Ford guy for life and thought "stepping up" to the Platinum I would be ecstatic, boy was I wrong.

Where do I start. Truck started out brand new and the heat and ac didn't work. 3 weeks later waiting for the part to come from China, it worked. Second the doors don't close right. Don't try to slam it shut it won't close. Third the seat doesn't adjust up or down and being 6ft 1 my knees hit the steering wheel. Fourth the truck comes with 2 ac plug outlets. Well they are useless unless you want to charge your phone. They won't charge my drill batteries at all. It over loads it and just blinks yellow. Why do I have 2 plugs if one cannot handle a 12v 3 amp battery. 5th the truck take 20-25 minutes to actually put out hot air in 20 degree temps, really? 6th the radio signal is week, the radio stations I listen to in my personal vechile which is a chevy work fine. The range on this pos is short. All in all this truck if you want to call it that... Ford went real real real cheap on this heap of junk. If your not delivering flowers this truck is not for you.

Fun to drive. From the onboard computer, I get 13 L/100Km (18 mpg) on the highway, 15 L/100Km (15.6 mpg) in the city. When pulling a 7,000 lbs trailer, it was drinking a whopping 30 L/100Km (7.8 MPG) but the performance was impressive. The ride is harder than my 2013 model, probably the result of a lighter suspended mass because of the aluminum body.

This has been an excellent vehicle with only one major problem. It is very comfortable and easy to drive. I enjoy the XLT package and some options (heavy duty towing with towing mirrors, tailgate step, navigation package, etc.). The only serious problem was that the electric brake controller failed resulting in a permanent hot link to my travel trailer brakes when the trailer was connected. I removed the brake controller fuse so I could pull the trailer home from a camping trip (very carefully since I had no trailer brakes). The controller was replaced under warranty and has worked perfectly since the repair. The voice activation of the navigation system and audio and phone functions seem a bit tedious so I generally enter the navigation information by hand on the screen. The mileage is overstated by 1-2 miles per gallon on the trip/fuel indicators but mileage has been consistently better than with my Nissan Frontier V6 pickup and the Ford is much more comfortable and usable for hauling and towing. Update 7/5/18: Door lock issues last winter: Doors will not open in freezing weather. Not sure if it is a problem with the door latches or the locking mechanism but have been informed that there is a recall that will hopefully fix this issue. Update 1/7/2020, 44657 miles. Revised review: Vehicle went into "limp mode" with "wrench" light (dashboard indicator) on while entering freeway. Vehicle slowed and had no power. Had vehicle towed to dealer. Dealer was unable to diagnose or replicate the problem that caused the fault. Apparently the particular diagnostic codes clear themselves when the car is turned off and restarted so there is no way to diagnose. Why would Ford create a system that causes the vehicle to almost stall then not create the diagnostics to indicate the fault? Dealer suggests "wait til it happens again". I now consider this vehicle totally unreliable and do not look forward to being stuck on the freeway or in the woods at some future point. Update 7/2/2020, 46659 miles. Vehicle went into limp mode again, as expected, since no diagnosis/repair was made after the previous event. This occurred on a busy county road (truck traffic, bicycles, intersections, etc.). I drove it at the 3 to 5 miles per hour that limp mode allows to the dealer for over 8 miles. Dealer was able to diagnose the problem this time since I delivered it running and insisted that the dealer check the codes before it was turned off. Dealer replaced the throttle body. This was not under warranty though vehicle only had 46,000 miles and was less than 5 years old, apparently since it is not an "internal lubricated part" it is not covered by the 5 year 60,000 mile powertrain warranty! I'm thoroughly disgusted with the "limp mode" technology and failure of the Ford diagnostic programs, the failure of the Ford dealer's ability to repair the vehicle and the failure of the Ford warranty to cover this kind of repair given the time and mileage on this vehicle. I still have no faith in the reliability of this vehicle. And to add insult to injury, I just got a recall notice for defective brakes which is, I think, the 4th safety related recall on this vehicle. Update 1/16/ 21 48,500 miles. No further issues with limp mode, but dealer has not contacted me about brake recall mentioned above. Due to covid-19, vehicle has been driven limited miles in 2020 since many vacation/camping trips were canceled.

My trim and engine weren't listed? My particular truck has all the bells and whistles. Power mirrors, windows, locks, etc. Heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats. Split rear window, power running boards, auto wipers, headlights and even auto high beams. I presently have 40K miles on it with only one unscheduled repair. My right cross traffic sensor was replaced under warranty. Other than that, it's been oil changes and tire rotations. The lane keeping system and adaptive cruise control make driving a pleasure. It tows my 7,000 lb camping trailer very well. The turbo motor provides plenty of torque. Overall very satisfied with the truck. Ford hit a home run with this one and is much more refined than the competition.

The 3.5L Ecoboost engine has been great. The truck is very quick when empty, and tows a 30ft trailer with no problem even on Colorado mountain passes. However, reliability has been mediocre. At roughly 10k miles, the throttle body failed causing loss of throttle and nonsensical Service AdvanceTrac and Hill Start Assist Disabled errors. The throttle body was replaced under warranty by the dealer. The same symptom recurred at about 40k miles. The fix is relatively easy, so this time I replaced the throttle body and saved myself much of the roughly $600 the dealer would have charged. A little before 40k miles, the vacuum operated actuators that engage 4WD failed causing a terrible grinding noise that goes way in AWD mode and returns in 2WD mode. The dealer replaced both left and right actuators under the drive train warranty. At that time, the dealer also found that the struts were leaking, which was consistent with the front end bounce that showed up when towing, so the struts are now replaced as well. Having previously owned Japanese SUV's that never failed, my F-150 has been a disappointment. Of the roughly 42K miles on the truck, about half were towing a 6000lb travel trailer, but the truck is supposedly designed to do this.

167k miles in, and this truck still drives and performs like new. It hasn’t had the easiest life. It’s towed heavy loads, it’s been off-roading on roads it problably shouldn’t have, and it’s carried 2000lbs worth of bricks in the bed, all without issues. It had the cam phasers replaced at 150k, but other than that it’s been extremely reliable. Also, with an aftermarket tune, it runs 13.6 in the 1/4 mile and gets 20mpg. Hopefully it’ll last another -67k. I’m confident it will.

Best Pickup Truck Out There F150 XLT Supercrew 4x4

First of all: this is a great truck. Ford's engineers did a sensational job of designing, detailing, specifying and overseeing construction of the 2015 F150 Supercrew 4x4. Bill Ford Jr. should be proud. He previously sent me a personal note of thanks back in 2009, when I ordered a 2010 King Ranch built custom for me. Nice guy. I get the feeling he takes great pride in his family's business. It shows in this truck, the latest incarnation of the 38-year run of America's most popular vehicle: the F150. We didn't get the King Ranch this time (although I would have like to). We settled on what appears to be Ford's "sweet spot" of F150s: the XLT level. Why: we got the 302A package, which includes a very nice assortment of goodies to make just about anyone smile: 8" productivity screen (Ford's website is wrong: it says 4.2", but I just measured it), including Sirius & Synch, trailer hitch, power exterior mirror adjustment, auto-dimming rearview mirrors (that's wonderful), leather steering wheel, power adjusting pedals, tilt-telescoping steering wheel, rearview camera, under sear rear storage, remote start (which is nice on a snow/ice morning, or if you'd like your dog to stay comfortable when you are inside a store), 10-way power&heated front seats with lumbar, reverse sonar, 110v/400W outlet on dash, power rear window, LED box lighting, 18" chrome wheels, chrome grille, OWL AT tires, chrome door handles, chrome front tow hooks, chrome step bars, chrome exhaust tip. Also included are: defrost in front and rear windshields, that activates when you remote start (just did this from a hotel room with snow and ice outside, so that was very convenient). Ours has the trailer tow package with built-in 7/4 pin wiring ports with flip covers, auxiliary transmission oil cooler, engine oil cooler, integrated trailer brake control on the dash, upgraded front stabilizer bar. Power equipment group is included: auto on/off headlamps with headlights that turn on when you turn on the windshield wipers, daytime running lamps (you must set lights to A for Automatic), drivers side entry combo lock on exterior, perimeter alarm, power locks and windows, remote lock integrated key transmitter, including power tailgate locking, boxlink (various cleats in the cargo bed for lashing loads down), fog lamps, . We also are adding the foldable pickup box box extender gate: cheap at $250. Turns your shortbed into a "Transformer" for longer cargo. And we have the Twin panel moonroof (very cool: about 75% of your roof becomes a "skyroof" and gives you all the benefits of a convertible without the negatives. Unprecedented luxury in a mid-range luxury truck). All that, and with $4,750 worth of rebates and incentives at the Mansfield, Ohio Graham AutoMall, and with a great trade-in value on our trade. This F150 XLT package in a very good value for a full-size comfortable truck that will make anyone smile, every time you drive it. I actually think I like it even more than my previous 2010 King Ranch (even thought leather isn't a factory option). And let's face it: if you really want leather, you can have your local dealer add that for about $1,200. But the 302A XLT with the skyroof is going to hit that sweet spot for many Americans looking for that particular level of value and luxury: a lot of bang for your buck. I think I'll probably be keeping this one a long time. Handling: make no mistake: this is a big truck. It appears that you are in a semi-tractor when you first sit in the cab. Kind of intimidating and exciting at the same time, realizing that you are going to be driving this beast. The handling is very responsive, with the little bit of body roll, but not as much as you might think with this full sized vehicle. Power: outstanding. I really wanted the 2.7L V6 ecoboost, but the dealer couldn't find one with the dual sunroof. So I have the 3.5LV6 ecoboost, which can lay you back in your seat if you have the guts to put your foot down. But be careful, you'll be going way too fast in only a second or two. No reason for the V8, unless you're going to be hauling horse trailers or houseboats. Luxury: unprecedented in a mid-range model of a full-sized truck. That optional Twin Moon Roof should have been called a "SkyRoof" because about 75% of your roof is glass. It's like driving in a penthouse apartment with a huge skylight. Even though you can't order an XLT with leather, you could always add that through your dealer for about another $1,200 if you really want to do that. Controls are sophisticated but easy to understand and operate. Haven't yet tried the Synch, but I've been told it's not hard. Fabric seats are okay in appearance and very comfortable. I think Ford could probably have their interior cabin team do some thinking about this fabric and make it even more interesting, but it is what it is: fabric. So buy leather if you want it. Mileage: we got about 20mpg on the highway with our 3.5LV6 ecoboost.

I traded my 2013 which had, what think we're HID headlights...so bright...and when on at night the area lit was stunning...this truck has halogen lights...terrible, and I am being generous...for some unknown reason, Ford has decided to eliminate the HID, an replace with weak LED...this was told to me by my salesman...he is trying to find out if there is a replacement kit...I am completely disappointed with these headlamps

A Truck for those that need a real truck

This new truck is fantastic. I traded an ’09 XLT I purchased as a second vehicle four years ago to serve as a tow vehicle for a travel trailer. I rethought my situation and sold a two year old car to then make the truck the primary vehicle. I wanted a bit more upscale but lived with the XLT. Recently I purchase a 2015 F150 Lariat 4x2 with every feature minus adaptive cruise, dynamic park assist and 4x4- pretty much loaded. I am a very critical shopper and compared the competition and read the reports with the understanding that my conclusion trumps reviews or opinions. I read the recall info on all makes and the safety tests. Consumers have to be careful as there is bias in everything it seems LIKE in the safety tests I found that from the source, IIHS.org, that all pickups over the past years and present do not have all the tests performed yet they claim 4-star overall etc. except the Ford. Check the source and NOT all the safe car websites that misrepresent the facts. A quick summary of my grades on pickups that led me to the Ford: The Silverado was a nice truck but it did not appeal to design-wise. The large cut out wheel wells were overdone and showed underpinnings, etc. The Square front reminded me of a 70s vehicle. The RAM 1500 was, by reviews, a strong contender until I drove it and was strongly influenced to not selecting the eco diesel by the dealer. The reason? When he found that my towing requirements were 7000# with a tongue weight of 1000# plus scooter and camping equipment in the bed. The killer was the low max payload of 1400#. The Toyota was the last option and it was nice but sparse in feature set related to functionality. While looking it really brought the issue to the front- aside from any upscale features the truck has to do its job without being overtaxed or at its max or have a high MPG penalty. That factor alone eliminated the RAM and Tundra requiring their highest numerical ratios and biggest engines to meet the need. Then I visited the Ford dealer. The statistics told me that the supercrew had the payload capacity and tow ability but each truck I looked at was different. Finally I found a Lariat with a 3.5 ecoboost. Interestingly the 2.7 with HD payload and max tow would have met my requirements but at the max as the other brands. The 3.5 gave me some breathing room. I drove the vehicle and found it to be light footed and quiet. My 2009 was NOTHING like this. The steering was tight and required less turning. The ride, which I read “how horrible” was very comparable to the others. BTW the RAM was heavy (by 1000#) and it was felt driving it. The F-150 does have a rear end jitter over bumps BUT compared to the ’09 it is vastly improved. That, in my opinion goes with having the better ability of performing as a truck- payload and tow ratings. I came away very impressed and knew it was the one. That said, I am critical. I took delivery in the evening and found a mark like a cut in the edge of the dash on my way home. I also found an odd hard place in the center of the rear seat bottom as something had happened to the leather above a seat heater. I took it back to the dealer who is presently taking care of it. I know that each of us must shop and come to our own conclusion. I would highly suggest an F-150 as it is, in my opinion, the most capable truck with car-like features and the best mpg for the power to do what a truck is designed to do. THAT SAID, if you only plan to haul mulch or have a jet ski or small trailer item, compare the F150 Lariat 2.7 eco and Dodge Laramie eco-diesel as both seem to make good moderate-ability choices though the gas F150 does not require DEF and gets about the same mileage.

Having worked at a dealership I have spent more time than the general consumer getting to know and test every square inch of these new pickups and as long as you get the right engine for what you need and get all of the features you want, you will fall in love with this truck more and more everyday you drive it. Having the 2.7L V6 Ecoboost was the right choice for me in that when I pull anything it's a small camper or boat, which with 7600lbs towing capacity it more than gets the job done. The same engineers who created the new 6.7L Powerstroke motor in 2011 are the same engineers who created this 2.7L Ecoboost motor, with a CGI block and diesel inspired pistons, you can really feel how amazing this motor is and still gets great gas mileage. I've had many farmers and ranchers ride in my pickup who drive every brand of truck out there and are all diesel heads and are amazed by what this pick up can do. Contrary to popular belief, the aluminum is better than steel in every way, from being safer for everybody inside, to being more dent resistant with the inability to rust. No matter what they try to say as well, Ford has done a ton of work to make sure that its not more expensive to get fixed than the old style. For example the front quarter panels are the exact same cost to replace in aluminum as they were in steel. When you get below the surface down the the frame and everything else, their isn't a pick up out there that can even come close. No body has a stronger frame or a better designed body to protect everything. Example being that chevy has absolutely nothing protecting the engine compartment and Ford has more protection not only in the front of the truck but everywhere else around it as well. Talking to any Ford dealerships truck expert can show you every little advantage down to the bed bolts instead of the welds like other trucks. Having owned and driven the other competitors and spent the equivalent of weeks studying all trucks from top to bottom, their isn't a better truck that you can buy. When you're spending the extra money on a Ford, it's not just for the name, its for the quality inside and out that no other truck can compare to.

My 2015 F-150 isn't my daily driver so I only have about 1,500 miles on it. I have owned it for 3 months. This is my 3rd F150. The others were almost flawless. I am Ford loyal so despite the misgivings about the aluminum body I bought one. First the good: it drives like a dream. Unbelievably good handling (it has the FX4 package). The interior is very comfortable, even for trips of 2-3 hours. It looks good. Acceleration is excellent with the V8. Now the bad: Within 2 months of ownership someone tried to break in. The police think it was to get to the tailgate (which can only be locked electronically now - bad). The driver window was on order for 2 weeks through the dealer (unacceptable). The dealer complained non-stop about the new aluminum body while I was getting an estimate. The instrument panel is a mess. I viewed it as a weakness when I was test driving it, but had no idea how much I would hate the layout until I bought it. Every button seems misplaced and awkward. The transmission is still a 6 speed and shifts a little oddly (mistimed). The radio and nav are below what I would expect for a Lariat level truck. Mileage is worse than I expected. Not sure Ford did its best with this one, but I will keep it for a while and see if it grows on me.

Skip the New F150s

They aren't like the older F150s at all. At under 20,000s our new 2015 F150 has been a nightmare and not safe to drive either. Regardless of payload size, road conditions or other factors which would normally effect its handling, shifting, power train, etc the truck has been completely unreliable. It will frequently, without provocation, down or upshift causing dangerous situations in traffic. Ford says this was initially due to the system which tracks my driving habits and that it needed to be reset. Two months later after I completely lost all power on the highway they told me there was a short in the transmission writing harness. The problem has not stopped since that was replaced. They told me next that I was carrying too much weight (about 700 pounds) for the new 'consumer grade' trucks and it must have caused undue stress on the engine. I removed the weight and the problems persisted. The brakes have been unreliable, grabbing at certain intervals despite the mechanics insistence that they are in fine shape. Occasional rocks or mud will cause immense noise to persist from the brakes for days. The fuel saver auto start blew through the starter in under 6 months and now when it shuts off it occasionally refuses to restart. The sync and bluetooth systems are a mess and need to be restarted or reprogrammed on a frequent basis.

It is my work truck. Reg cab has little room to store much. Center seat folds down which makes a nice armrest with cup holders. 3.5 NA V6 seems to be a sleepy little engine but north of 3,000 rpm , it " wakes up " and takes off. It actually performs quite well, I can only guess the turbo models are real screamers. The truck has already started making some creaking noises ( I also read this on another forum). Mileage hasn't been great. Maybe 16 around town if I baby it and on the highway, 23.5 was my best. Had two occasions where it all but shut down. Low speed , wouldn't idle over 1,000 rpm and all kinds of warning lights. They ended up replacing the throttle body. Has been fine since. Have hit 26 mpg on a long trip but usually end up in the 21 mpg range for shorter trips. Around town mileage is usually around 14. Have not had any reason to use the 4x4 system yet. The Leer cap ( not Fords problem) has had some fit and finish issues. Had to glue some things back on. Update 4/9/21 2019 F150 4x4 Reg Cab Truck has been good but the mpg is not the best. I rarely use 4x4 or AC. Bed probably has about 800 pounds in it. I barely get into the 20 mpg range in the highway and 13-14-15 around town driving conservatively. For a basic 3.3 V6 , 3.55 rear ended I really expected more. 10/12/2021 Mileage still about the same. Have 12k on it and it runs fine. No issues. Good basic no frills work truck.

Look, I love the truck and Ford I hope you log in and look at these reviews so that through constructive criticism comes updates and improvements. I love everything about the truck except the new key design and it is awkward to say the least. While in your pocket it will set the panic alarm off very often. I mean you lean one way or the other or up against something and the alarm goes off. Also, you cannot throw the key under the mat of the car if you want to lock it in and use the key pad on the drivers door to renter, or at least I don't know how to do that. My 2013 was a breeze, car alarm never set off, lock the key inside the truck and come back and enter code and you were good to go, new one (2015) much harder and cumbersome. Ford, you did more right than wrong and I love the truck! Just look over the new non-key design and improve, it's a bit awkward now.

I have a 2015 and 2016 F-150. 5.0L V8 and 2.7L ecoboost. Wish I had gotten both with the 2.7L ecoboost. Average MPG with 2.7 is 23 mpg. Better MPG and response from the 2.7. It has plenty "get up and go". Best engine since the online 6 cyl. Was very reluctant because of the size of the engine. Must drive it to understand what it's capable of. Had a 2015 Silverado with a 5.3 V8. Struggled to pull 7000 lbs. After 2 months traded for another F-150. Far more truck than the Chevy. Sits up much higher than the Chevy and is far more aggressive in deep snow. The F-150 is more expensive, but you get what you pay for.

The milage ratings are overstated. 19.5 mpg is the best it gets. The lightness of the aluminum body lends to instability, both in the wind and during towing, along with being easier to dent. I was a Ford person for most of my life (owned more than 10) but owned a Dodge and a Honda since my last one. After owning my current F150, I am reminded that poor quality and unreliability is why I switched and today's poor quality is why I shan't own another. There are just too many good vehicles made today to put up with Ford's petty and persistent failings. At less than 23,000 miles, the speedometer quit working. Cruise control same story. The Dodge had almost 200K miles and the Honda 268K and none of the chicken s#@+ things happened like this Ford has had. Uncomfortable and hard to maintain the cleanliness of the cab (the fabric stains easily) is also annoying. All in all, (as you can see) I am not happy with Ford.) Updated 12/2017.....Sold it because I was so disappointed. POOR resale value.

Great truck. Mileage good for a V8. I can get 21 on highway but 19 is more realistic. Drives great. The room is the Supercrew is unbelievable. Larger screen, backup sensors and camera are worth it. Once you have them, you wouldn't go back. I have remote start and that can be helpful in cold weather. My only issue is that it is big and a little hard to park in some places but I knew that when I got it. Update: 2/1/2021 - I traded the F150 for a Ford Explorer, only because our needs changed. We are towing the explorer behind a 43 ft motorhome. The Ford F150 is probably the best vehicle I ever owned.

Update (8/14/19). Recently sold my F150 for reasons not due to the trucks. Owned it about 14 months and put almost 16,000 miles on it. Not one problem. Drove like a brand new truck when I sold it even at 4 years old and 45,000 miles on the odometer. I liked most everything about the truck except: #1 not having a conventional transmission dipstick to check/change the fluid. Ford (and my dealer) say's lifetime fluid but don't you believe it. #2 I'm not 100% sold on the aluminum body panels. Can get very noisy while driving in the rain. They say the aircraft quality aluminum is stronger than the steel but when you tap on the panels it feels & sounds like plastic. My neighbors Silverado panels sound like metal. Kudos to Ford for being cutting edge but if I had a choice I'd choose steel over aluminum. Have you seen those youtube videos when a newer (2015+) F150 catches fire? They melt. Anyway, I loved my F150 and would buy another one in a second if needed. 2015 XLT, 5.0, V8, 4x4, 301A Pkg, FX4, 5.5 bed. Purchased used w/28k miles. Now has 40k. I am the 2nd owner. Was a certified pre-owned from our local dealer. Wife and I saw this Ruby Red beauty on the lot and fell for it instantly. It had everything we wanted except leather but better grade Katzkin leather can be installed later on. I replaced the half worn Goodyear tires with new Michelin's and so far we have driven it 12k miles without a problem. Been on several long trips. Very comfortable to drive. Love the V8 (not a ecoboost fan) and the gas mileage isn't too bad. The HVAC works great, stereo sounds good and the bluetooth works perfectly. Overall we are very pleased. I can only think of two things I don't like, first is the 5th to 4th downshift harshness everyone else talks about but it only happens every so often, not worth taking a chance the dealer would make things worse. Second is the price of these trucks. I settled for an XLT. The Lariats, King Ranches and Limited's are going for crazy money. I'm hoping it last 10 years or longer to justify the cost.

Purchased the truck used with 32k. My supercab (extended cab) has the 5.0 with the FX4 package. The FX4 makes for a stiff ride sometimes, but I have no serious complaints about that. The 5.0 has been no trouble whatsoever and delivers plenty of power. Gas mileage is about what I'd expect with a truck this size -about 18mpg combined. Looking forward to many more miles!

I actually have an XLT Supercrew 2.7L Ecoboost FX4. Love the quiet ride, smooth and powerful acceleration from the 2.7L Ecoboost and the interior is pleasing. The FX4 package definitely has a stiffer busy ride on an empty bed - would have preferred regular 4X4 but they only had FX4s in the configuration I was looking for. Although still in break in phase, fuel economy is disappointing so far - averaging about 16.2 mpg on very gentle mixed driving. Read the Edmunds review on the fuel economy on the 2.7L which they have found to be well short of the EPA rating. I think it ends up being maybe 1 mpg better than the V8. Given the negligible price difference between the 2.7 V6 vs the V8, I would have purchased the V8 instead had I know about the poor real world fuel economy. Also, when just purchased, I already noticed surface rust on the rear differential housing and a couple of other small areas. Worried about how well the rust issue will hold up in the long tem.

Bought this in August of 15 only to find out that my brand newly redesigned state of the art aluminium truck s radio was old technology, bad call ford. This was a 43000 dollar truck yet it had a hard plastic dash and the armrest in the front doors were thinly padded while the ones in the back were hard plastic, the seats looked like they were made from potato sacks, this was an SLTmodel. Now let's get to the turbo 3.5L. first 2000 miles this thing was like a speed racer, then it started to have very delayed reactions to input from my foot, I broke it in properly, but after that it was downhill from there, it jerked and when it would finally spool up it would jerk your head back. But I also wanted to include this, when it rains you might as well forget having a conversation with whoever is seated next to you, it sound like a heard of elephants are trampling across that aluminum hood. When you walk in the back of the bed, it pops and cracks. The door alignment and body panels look like my first plastic model car I put together at the age of 6. I've always been a For, but after 10000 miles in 14 months I just have had enough. I am now driving a 2016 Nissan Titan XD Platinum Reserve, and it has everything on it, leather, navigation, around view cameras led lights and big V8, all for less than 55,000$, ford can't touch that deal at all.

Beware the charging ports!

I'm writing this review in hopes that Ford will take notice and correct the charging system which includes the USB ports, cig. lighter ports, and even the 110 v charging outlet. I started by plugging my LG phone into the cig. port and even though it appeared to be charging while I was using the Google GPS , it was actually slowly discharging. At first I thought the problem may be with my Phone so I had a friend plug theirs in with the same results. The same thing happened with the USB ports so I took it in to Five star Ford service center in Carrollton and after 2 hours of trying a variety of charging times with various phones they said there was nothing they could do about it and suggested I use the 110v outlet. In fact the service manager admitted that thats what he does. So they know there is a problem but are hesitant to correct it. Their is also a problem with the 110v outlet; it doesn't always work. sometimes it' has power and sometimes it doesn't. I was even told by the service tech that those ports weren't intended for charging! How crazy is that! They probably thing that this review board typing backwards is normal. This may be the last Ford I ever own.

Found a basic XL 2015 work truck

The base 6 cyl 2.7L turbo is very strong! I LOVE the Ford engines. I also have the new Navigator L 3.5L and it is very fast for such a huge dinosaur. The F-150 is currently getting 20 mpg combo. Considering its the base XL with no carpet and vinyl and just extended cab, I get a lot of compliments on its looks. Sync works well with my Iphone and I hooked up a portable sirrius/xm radio and the speakers are very good in the base version. For a cheap base truck, the fit and finish is outstanding. This a good family truck as my kids can load all the sports gear in the bed and fit adequately in the rear seats for medium to short trips. This base XL makes more sense than an SUV in most cases. Buy a loaded F150 and you are close to Navigator pricing. Look at the XL and learn to save some money with no one else noticing! Now after 20,000 miles the only issue i have had under warranty was the rear passenger side half door wouldnt open. The cable connecting the handle to the latch came loose internally somehow. Fixed quickly under warranty. No other issues so far. Ford brakes however squeel with moisture in my experiences

First off I have the 3.5 and while I never bought a truck to get good gas mileage, it is a good thing. I am not heavy footed at all, and only get 13-14 mpg around town and about 18 on hwy. Funny when I first got it I got about 22-23 on the why but after a few thousand miles that dropped, and the truck still only has 5k miles on it. With that said, very comfortable truck, and seems like much more room inside than in the Ram 1500. Not a big fan of the fan switch location as you have to reach around the shifter to get to it and it is a small switch at the bottom of the console, either a different location ( like the steering wheel) or a knob like climate control would have been nice. On the shifter, there is no off-set when dropping into D before going into manual gears. On a couple of occasions I have just dropped the truck into gear and slowly pulled out of the drive and onto a side street only to find when I step on it getting onto a busy road I am not in Drive but in a lower gear and hear the engine rev. Would like to see an offset to go lower than drive so one cannot do it accidentally. Like I said, the comments are very picky as the truck is very nice.

I just got my truck and I am getting 17mpg in town and can hit 28mpg on flat freeway. It is doing everything I had hoped for. I cannot believe how strong the little V6 is. I think most people will opt for it after trying it out.

This truck's 2.7L twin turbo engine roars with speed and power, it's incredibly fast off the line. Considering it's power the mpg its good, but in real world not great when compared to other trucks. Supposedly with the 4x4 I should be getting 19 combined, in actuality I'm getting 17-18. The computer is showing close to 18.7, but when calculated manually its a mile or more less. That said, by electing the smaller engine it would matter if there was a trade off for mileage vs power, but that's not the case. I'm suspecting with a custom tune the shifting would improve and the turbos performance would increase substantially. There is probably no end to what could be done in performance mods. Pros: Fast/Powerful, handles great, very roomy, good gas mileage for a truck, awesome front end look. Aluminum body reduces weight, seems tough and doesn't dent easy. Cons: Front seats not the most comfortable, plastic trim Interior, halogen lights, navigation and leather aren't included until you fork out big bucks. Ford makes you pay for options other makers may include. They probably needed to give and take somewhere considering the expense they forked out for the lighter aluminum body. Ford needs a black out option, this truck is black and there is to many emblems colors on it, plus the white lettering on the tires. It weakens it's appearance.

It has a lot of torque and it goes when you put your foot down. I am still learning a lot of tech options. The first few fill ups have been averaging 17-18 mpg which I think is great for a 5 liter V8. The supercab is comfortable for four people. We have had five for short trips without an issue. We went for the supercab so the truck would fit in the garage with a 6.5' box. So far I am very happy with our decision to buy this truck.

Why I Switched from Audi to the New F-150

This truck is great. I recently left my 2013 Audi A6 because I was tired of the endless issues with their German technology. I loved that car, but if one thing had an issue . . . the entire car seemed to have an issue. The new F-150 accelerates like a best, has great comfort and convenience items, and feels safer driving in Southern California. The gas mileage is a little misleading. I have to make a concerted effort to stay above 15mpg in the city, but I didn't buy this truck for fuel economy. My engine is the 3.5 ecoboost and I am pretty sure the 2.7 with auto off/on lives up to the mpg hype. I think my favorite thing so far is the ease of the touchscreen SYNC system. I am a big fan of it. I don't like the on-line features though, because it often times requires calling an operator as opposed to just asking for and receiving results. Overall, if you want a new truck that has the comfort of a car, the mpg of a medium to light suv, and the power of a truck . . . I suggest the new F-150. Be aware that there may be some sticker shock, though.

The truck has the base 3.5L V-6 and the acceleration is quite good and overall fuel economy is 20-21 mpg! It is the XL trim level with manual windows and locks. For vinyl seats they are very comfortable. The power steering gives a good feel of the road and the brakes are awesome. I love the telescoping/tilt steering wheel, great idea. I like the blind spot side view mirrors, they are quite nice! The rear seats are roomy enough but nowhere near the crew cab. Plenty of room for groceries and moderate size items. The gauge cluster is useful and easy to read.

F-150 King of the Ranch

This is my first time owning a Ford F-150 and I wish I would have gotten into a F-150 much sooner. I've owned both Chevy and Dodge over the years and can say without hesitation that the 2015 Ford F-150 is an awesome truck! It provides a very comfortable ride, while still giving the feeling of being in a truck. The 5.0L engine (same one that is in the Mustang) is powerful and enhances the ride with a nice throaty sound from the exhaust. I have used it towing a horse trailer. It is hard to remember that you have something attached to the truck, it tows that easily. In fact, my wife enjoyed driving the truck while towing the trailer, normally she avoids driving while towing. My truck comes with the 6 speed automatic that can be driven as a manual and includes both a Tow and Sport function. You know you are in Sport, with quicker shifts from the transmission and the increase horse power right out of first gear. The technology of the truck is amazing and can be a bit overwhelming, I have to refer back to the manual on occasion. However, I am using all of the features available on this truck, which provides so much convenience. An example is the tow settings that allow you to hook up a trailer and set the brake control, while it knows what type of trailer you have connected. You then can save the trailer settings and the truck will remember it each time you hook it up. I purchased this truck in Beaumont, TX at Kinsel Ford and drove it back 1200 miles, with my horse trailer, back to Wisconsin. It was a fantastic drive back without any issues. The dealership provided me with the best experience in buying my 2015 King Ranch overall and above any other vehicle I have purchased. I had to utilize their service department before leaving and they provided great customer service and speed in getting the issue taken care of. Update 2017 - I have chosen not to drive this truck in Wisconsin winters, so total mileage is lower than anticipated. MPG has gone up to 17.5 combined highway and street. On 2 trips to central Iowa, highway mileage went up to 21 MPG. Sport mode drops MPG pretty fast, but it is expected. Hard to not to use it in Sport mode. No problems to report. This is a fantastic truck! Update Dec 2017 - Continues to be reliable. It appears that my mpg is slowly increasing, previously combine average was 17.5 and now is 18.1. Side note, mpg decreases with Sport mode turned on. It is a pleasure to drive. Two recent occurrences on the freeway showed me how well the truck stops quickly and straight as an arrow. My Chevy and Dodge trucks always had the rear end slide out to the side in sudden stopping. I was amazed at how my F-150 stops so well. Update June 2018 Still getting 21 mpg on longer drives, got up to 23 mpg when the tank was ethanol free. As long as I don't turn on sport mode I average the 18.1 mpg. I wish box was bigger, now that I use it more. I love the Michelin tires, great traction and smooth ride. Update June 2019 As noted before, when I can purchase fuel without ethanol, my mpg on combined city and highway goes into the 20's. Everything is working quite well. No services required other than my oil changes and air filter, which I do myself. I have had 3 recalls on the truck, the last 2 were frozen door locks and the potential for the seat belts to spark a fire in rapid retraction. None of the recalls had any direct negative affect with my truck. There is one issue that is quite frustrating and that is Ford cancelling their contract with Microsoft for the Sync feature in the 2015 to 2017 models. That is ridiculous, to only allow use of this Sync version for 3 years and the fact we were paying for use of this feature. To upgrade to the new Sync version would cost over $3000, as you would have to purchase a new screen for your existing vehicle. It makes me wonder if Ford will do this every 3 years going forward. My truck gets a lot of looks, as the combined colors Bronze Fire/Caribou is very rare in Wisconsin. I made my purchase originally in Texas. I am still enjoying this truck and do not plan on trading it in.

I'm very impressed with this truck. For such a little engine it pulls very good and still gets decent fuel economy. I love that it holds the gears without shifting down all the time when going up a incline while pulling a 6000 lb trailer. Tow haul works great! I use this truck mostly on weekends pulling a boat, fish house and a snowmobile trailer. Fuel economy with the 8' wide, 7' tall V nose 6000 lb trailer in the winter with temps around 0 Fahrenheit is between 9 and 10 mpg. Driving on the freeway with no load 24 mpg. I traded a 2011 1500 crew cab with a 5.3L engine for my Ford and this F150 truck is a huge improvement over my last truck. I think the 302a package was the best option I added. Having the large touch screen radio/camera for backing up to trailers, dual power seats and all the other stuff that came with it was perfect for me and kept me from paying more for the Lariat. 7/30/2020 59k miles and still no complaints. New Michelin Defenders at 53k. Change oil since new with full synthetic oil around 6500 miles. No repairs yet, but planning on a transmission flush at next service
