F-150 King of the Ranch

This is my first time owning a Ford F-150 and I wish I would have gotten into a F-150 much sooner. I've owned both Chevy and Dodge over the years and can say without hesitation that the 2015 Ford F-150 is an awesome truck! It provides a very comfortable ride, while still giving the feeling of being in a truck. The 5.0L engine (same one that is in the Mustang) is powerful and enhances the ride with a nice throaty sound from the exhaust. I have used it towing a horse trailer. It is hard to remember that you have something attached to the truck, it tows that easily. In fact, my wife enjoyed driving the truck while towing the trailer, normally she avoids driving while towing. My truck comes with the 6 speed automatic that can be driven as a manual and includes both a Tow and Sport function. You know you are in Sport, with quicker shifts from the transmission and the increase horse power right out of first gear. The technology of the truck is amazing and can be a bit overwhelming, I have to refer back to the manual on occasion. However, I am using all of the features available on this truck, which provides so much convenience. An example is the tow settings that allow you to hook up a trailer and set the brake control, while it knows what type of trailer you have connected. You then can save the trailer settings and the truck will remember it each time you hook it up. I purchased this truck in Beaumont, TX at Kinsel Ford and drove it back 1200 miles, with my horse trailer, back to Wisconsin. It was a fantastic drive back without any issues. The dealership provided me with the best experience in buying my 2015 King Ranch overall and above any other vehicle I have purchased. I had to utilize their service department before leaving and they provided great customer service and speed in getting the issue taken care of. Update 2017 - I have chosen not to drive this truck in Wisconsin winters, so total mileage is lower than anticipated. MPG has gone up to 17.5 combined highway and street. On 2 trips to central Iowa, highway mileage went up to 21 MPG. Sport mode drops MPG pretty fast, but it is expected. Hard to not to use it in Sport mode. No problems to report. This is a fantastic truck! Update Dec 2017 - Continues to be reliable. It appears that my mpg is slowly increasing, previously combine average was 17.5 and now is 18.1. Side note, mpg decreases with Sport mode turned on. It is a pleasure to drive. Two recent occurrences on the freeway showed me how well the truck stops quickly and straight as an arrow. My Chevy and Dodge trucks always had the rear end slide out to the side in sudden stopping. I was amazed at how my F-150 stops so well. Update June 2018 Still getting 21 mpg on longer drives, got up to 23 mpg when the tank was ethanol free. As long as I don't turn on sport mode I average the 18.1 mpg. I wish box was bigger, now that I use it more. I love the Michelin tires, great traction and smooth ride. Update June 2019 As noted before, when I can purchase fuel without ethanol, my mpg on combined city and highway goes into the 20's. Everything is working quite well. No services required other than my oil changes and air filter, which I do myself. I have had 3 recalls on the truck, the last 2 were frozen door locks and the potential for the seat belts to spark a fire in rapid retraction. None of the recalls had any direct negative affect with my truck. There is one issue that is quite frustrating and that is Ford cancelling their contract with Microsoft for the Sync feature in the 2015 to 2017 models. That is ridiculous, to only allow use of this Sync version for 3 years and the fact we were paying for use of this feature. To upgrade to the new Sync version would cost over $3000, as you would have to purchase a new screen for your existing vehicle. It makes me wonder if Ford will do this every 3 years going forward. My truck gets a lot of looks, as the combined colors Bronze Fire/Caribou is very rare in Wisconsin. I made my purchase originally in Texas. I am still enjoying this truck and do not plan on trading it in.

Don’t buy a ford if you have winter

2015 screw lariat 502A with 5.0 41000km Full extended warranty until 2022 or 80,000 The Good Love the look & drive of the truck No problems with the drive train The BAD! I live in Vancouver Canada & we only have temps below 0 for 1-3 weeks a year. LUCKY for me. Since I bought this truck I have the freezing doors problem. Either the doors will not unlatch or sometimes they will not close, If the temp is below freezing. Think about owning an 80,000 thousand dollar truck with bung cords holding the doors closed. Or being late because you can’t get in. Yes in Canada full sticker is $79,900.00 My local Ford dealer in Surrey has treated me like crap since I bought this truck from them. I fought to get this fixed twice, but it still has the same problem. Plus now because Ford says my vin isn’t in the recall, I am on my own? BUT I Have Full warranty until 2022? That’s ok because Ford doesn’t have fix for this problem yet. So if you are buying a 2015 to a 2020 any model F150 & you have winter? Beware because all the above years have this problem on some of their trucks. Google it &you will find pages of complaints. I have had a lot of other recalls. But to be fair they were mostly well looked after. Although I did have to wait 10 months for a block heater. I have always bought a new Ford truck every 3-5 years. And I would have bought a 2021 if Ford treated their customers better. I guess I will wait for the 2022 Toyota Tundra? Ford should include bungee cords with every new truck.

2.7l Engine replaced at 65k!

Bought my truck used from CARMAX and two weeks later I started hearing a pretty aggressive knock. Took it back and the techs determined that the engine was in pretty bad shape. They didn’t tear it down or determine what the problem actually was but decided that it was best to change the engine. I’m now getting a remanned engine from Ford. I haven’t seen anything online about the 2.7l ecoboost having any issues leading a complete change if the engine. Love my truck and the HP/Tq are plenty for what I need.

This truck is an ecoboost and powerful as can be. It only gets around 15 MPH so dont let people bull ya on that. The truck is over priced, but, then again what car isnt. Those are my only issues other than that I love driving it every day and look for excuses to drive it. My advise always buy used and save 10 grand instantly, I did and love it. Good luck folks.
