Drive it like you stole it

Simply put: best vehicle I have ever owned. I bought my '04 FX4 with 50k miles. After owning for 5 years, I sold it with 174k miles on it. Every mile was hard driven. I have a heavy foot, like to floor it, frequently jump curbs with it, drive it like I stole it. Towed a 19' boat from San Diego to Lake Havasu and back on multiple occasions. Previous owner replaced the transmission: he was towing a 26' cabin cruiser with it - something you need an f250 for. Only thing I did was replace alternator and serp belt. Oil changes every 5-7k miles with MobilOne 5-20 full synthetic. I sold the truck to buy a newer model. At 174k miles, excellent resale value. Felt like crying the next day. Best truck.

This is a wonderful truck to own. It looks good drives good and is dependable. However, expect one if not all of the window regulators to go out. Ford used cheap plastic parts so the gear will go bad eventually. Second, the spark plugs for 04-08 models were designed poorly and get seized into the heads. Expect a bill of anywhere from 800-2000 to replace them as Ford charges by hour to remove them because they break off. Last, the timing gears are plastic and break and result in thousands of dollars in repairs. VCT Solenoid & cam phasers also go bad. Google all the known issues with this truck first. These are the major ones to expect. If you're able to work through them it's a good truck.

I bought my 2004 F-150 supercab 4x4 lariat on black fiday 2005 with 45,000 miles already on it. This is basically my first truck. This is heavily optioned with everything you could get or want. With the automatic on the floor, I thought the interior was just the coolest. Needless to say, the looks and styling got me. I currently have just under 185,000 miles on the truck. I fully expect to get 300,000 miles or more before i get a new truck. Here is where the mixed feelings come in. I have spent an average of $1500 a year maintaining this truck! My recommendation is this... Do NOT buy the first model year of ANY vehicle when there has been a COMPLETE redesign. Wait until the bugs are out.

I've had this truck for 3 years now. I really enjoy how the cab just fits. I love having 7 cupholders within reach from the driver's seat. The vents look nice and are very easy to adjust without breaking. The power is good on this truck for what I need (pulling trailers, pulling out trees with a chain, squalling tires to be a show-off, accelerating, etc.). The back seat is fairly comfortable. We really enjoy the small supercab windows. They're perfect for our two dogs to put their heads out of. My biggest complaint would be the gas mileage. They say, "It's a truck! What do you expect?!" Mine gets 14 at best on the highway and 10-11mpg in the city. Doesn't touch the EPA 13/17.

this truck just looks awesome,i keep it because its unusual ,ext cab 4x4 5,4 3 valve, 300 hp,365 tourq,i have a 2012 chevy 1500 4x4 z71 with 5,3, gets better milage than the ford, power is just as good and rides great, and a 2012 chevy 2500 4x4 with 6.0 gas motor, tows my 22 ft skeeter bass boat and my heavy equipment, I have towed 16,500 lbs,my john deere 50 excavator and 3500lbs trailor with no problem and have a 9,3 ft boss v-plow,i keep the ford because its paid for and its mint, not 1 spot of rust, the fram -springs undercarage is like new,i love the Wedgwood blue and tan 2 tone, and the flair side is rair and I love it,somehow ford makes it feel and drive big,i love the captian chairs and big tow mirrors, with signal lights, its a little hard on gas in town ,not bad on highway, but the 5,3 chevy is better on feul, but there is a million of them, their not many flair side fords,so ill keep driving it, its the sharpest truck they made, and I had a 07 Lincoln mark lt , the chevy 2500 has its place in my company its a work horse, but I want to see if I can get 500,000 miles out of my o4 f 150,[fords best truck in a half ton] the new turbo v6 I don't trust,i think there a gimmick, lets see them at 220k,than talk to me,long live the v-8'

I sold to salvage yard for $2000 ait had 92000 miles one it. By the time I had 55000 miles on it I was on my 3rd Rear Differential. I have never driven it off road. and I'm an older gentleman. I have replaced the 4x4 actuators 5 times. The truck sounds like a diesel truck and clicks all the time. Ford Said that was normal of course the said that when it was in warranty and now they say I needs a new engine 6500.00 because the cam phasers are bad. Junk Junk Junk

Silent killer

2004 Ford F-150 4dr SuperCab XL Rwd Styleside 8 ft. LB (5.4L 8cyl 4A)

It's a good handling truck overall. The only thing is it wears tires out fast and the front end shakes a lot. The engine at 100,000 miles had a tune up and it cost 1,800 dollars we had to replace 3 coils on the plugs. At 116,000 miles the motor went out and we spent 7,000 dollars on a new motor. The Ford company says the motors have very tight tolerances and have no room for error. The oil gummed up in the oil pan and stopped up the return tubes not allowing the oil to drain back down to the bottom end. So the oil pump failed and the cam phasers went then the bottom end. Most mechanics say it's a bad design on the motor.

Same as most reviews. Ford has failed. Looks are great, but deceiving. Transmission issues from day 1 with same response from dealership, "couldn't find a problem". Now big problems post warranty. Rear differential - truck shudders upon takeoff from a turning start. 1st Ford needed new engine. Guess I'll buy foreign. So what if economy worsens and jobs are lost, atleast I'll have a truck that runs. Ford has lost all integrity

At 45000 I needed a Rear Diff. under warranty and at 75000 I needed a new Rear Diff again. 4x4 has not worked since 70000 miles and they don't even know what it is and have not been able to fix it they think it electrical. Transmission slips all the time since around 35000 miles and they say that is normal. I currently have 98000 miles on it and I now have a P00012a error (cam shaft timing) and apparently now I need a new engine. I would never buy one of these as they are Not Ford Tough...

I bought this truck in 2008 after looking through numerous car dealerships. It was love at 1st sight. 2 years later I still love my truck only problems I have had was a leak in rear window and water in the tail light nothing major. I use it for my boat and I sometimes forget I am hauling anything. I almost ripped the back end of a honda civic off that was stuck once and barely press the gas. Overall very good buy even though it get jealous when it sees the new chevy 2500HD pass by. I only see around 13-15 mpg which not very good but I bought the edge evolution and now get around 16-17 mpg also recommend this item as a add on

This is one awesome truck! As a matter of fact you tend to forget you're in a truck! Ride is by far the best all around. I've driven them all because that's what I do for a living; nothing compares to what this machine does for you. Many onlookers and challengers everyday and with that alone, I'm glad I got my truck!

After 3 years in a noisy and under powered Toyota Turdra, I was anxious to get back to a real truck. I was very pleased and impressed from the first test drive. The ride quality is as good or better than most "Luxury" cars. It handles the road very well and the steering feedback gives the driver an increased level of confidence in all types of road and weather conditions. If you are considering buying a truck, and you don't drive a new F-150, you have missed an opportunity to own not just the best truck on the planet, but one of the finest vehicles built today PERIOD.

Looks better, tows more, rides better, built better than other competitors trucks. I test-drove all others, Titan close second. Has more power but does not match looks or build quality!! Test drive them, it should be an easy choice unless you just want a faster truck(Titan), or if you want to support your fav auto maker(those other 3 guys) p.s. this truck is not underpowered, it will smoke tires! Just test drive them, you'll see!

This truck has given me nothing but problems. The dealer said it just needed spark plugs. Lied. It really needed a timing something that cost 3000 to fix. Then I figure out the radio doesn’t turn off, because the truck shakes around so much when you drive it that the sensor that’s supposed to turn off the aux fell loose. F Ford I will never buy another ford again. Sears auto is a liar

I have driven Ford vehicles for the 20 years. I like the style, ergonomics, ride, dependibility of each Ford product I have owned. However, my F-150 Lariat Super Cab, 2wd,5.4liter V8 has been and still continues to be a lemon. From the very beginning it has had a bad viberation. I have had 5 sets of tires, three drive shafts, 2 rear pioion gears, trans.rebuilt new trans., 2,radio /6 cd changers, speaker problems, auto rear sildiging window. These were all while it was still warranty. Ford engineers even came from somewhere out of state to try to find the promblem. They can't find out what is wrong. Ford really let me down. I'm not aginst Ford prod. this one just not right from the start.

This truck has everything I've wanted in a truck. I had a 2000 F-150 4x4 and it fells like I went from a lumber wagon to a Mercedes in term of ride quality. There are so many positive attributes with this truck I couldn't list them all. The only complaint is power. It seems a bit weaker than my old truck which also had the 5.4 V8. A chip and few other mods will take care of that issue for me though. Overall, a great truck. Baught it instead of the Nissan Titan. Like the Titan and its 180 degree swingout doors, but the Ford felt better to me. The Audiophile stereo in the F-150 is very good for a factory system. Hope this helps prospective buyers.

I have had my truck 6 years 150,000 miles not a single problem. have towed and hauled and I will say that you do not feel what you are towing or hauling, like other trucks especially when cornering or coming into and out of curves. Power yes everyone wants more power but when using your truck for recreational or light to medium work you cant beat "Ford" its like this truck was made somewhere else like another realm or world, where quality is all they do :-). if you need to haul heavy work loads then get a F-250 or F-350 which these trucks are hard to beat in the "Big Mans World of heavy haulers". oh!! by the way my 4.6 V-8 gets 24 miles per gal with the K/N air filter as the only add on.

The Lariat is more than a truck. With the new interior and comfortable size, it can double for your luxury car duties too. The engineering that went into making this truck responsive to drive is impressive. Who would have thought the words "road feel" and "truck" would be in the same sentance? The 2004 F150 is very quiet, comfortable and gets the same mileage as the outgoing model. The drive by wire may make the truck feel slightly sluggish since the power comes on so smooth, but you are always going faster than you think you are in this vehicle.

I drove a 2017 f 250 4x4 all aluminum that truck was all over the road, to high way too light, the wind blows all over the place, ford will be sorry, [but I'm picky] all the half tons lookgreat, dodge ram-chevy-gmc-ford-Nissan -Toyota, the consumer has great choices, I don't like v-6 turbo gas motor,

Ford spark plug problems

Really have liked the truck bought new and its many features. Truck is a supercab and it's very comfortable. However it's latest feature - spark plugs that blow completely out of the engine- have really changed my mind about Ford's build quality or lack thereof. Not only is it absurd that a spark plug can blow out of the engine but equally absurd how much it costs to repair. Ford recommends replacing the defective aluminum head with a new defective aluminum head rather than owning up the problem and recalling the many vehicles with their modular engine. Just search 'blown out spark plug' and witness the amount of complaints with both trucks and cars with this engine.

Bought the truck in January 2004 when there weren't many on the road. 120,000 miles later and the only two things on the entire truck that have broke was the passenger side window motor and the grommet on the center shift linkage. Unbelievable low maintenance truck. Been using mobile one full synthetic oil since it was a baby and Fram filters. Two sets of brakes and 3 sets of tires later the truck is perfect. Everything in the truck still works even those back up sensors. Put a leveling kit on it when it was new and thats it. Great truck, not looking forward to changing the plugs though, that maybe a big problem due to the issue with the 5.4 and the spark plugs breaking off.

I fell in love as soon as a sat in the new Ford! What an improvement in comfort and design. The toughest decision was choosing between the Lariat and th FX. I chose the Lariat finally due to a slightly prefeered guage look. I was a little concerned about driving it after hearing some of the reviews on it lacking power. It felt fine, if you want 0-50 acceleration in my opinion by a car! The pulling and ability to climb hills was great.

This is simple, it's the best looking, longest lasting and toughest truck on the road for this class. This truck is great to drive and proud to be seen in. A truck you can go to work in and then take out for a night on the town. This is a 9 rating staight accross. I think the only down side is that the transmission doesn't quite fit the engine, a smoother shift would make this the ultimate drive. Other than that it handles curves, hills and hiways with excellent reactions to comands. I waited years to buy the best truck and i got it.......DWD.. Ca.

This is my first pickup. Decided on Ford F-150 due very positive reviews. I was always a small car person but this truck is an absolute pleasure to drive. Still getting used to the size and lower gas mileage though! The build quality is superior to the Honda Odyssey I bought two years ago, which we still own and will keep for a while (I drive the truck and gave my car to my daughter). I shopped Chevy and Toyota and in my opinion neither came close. The Toyota had too many rattles right off the lot and I have been burned too many times by Chevy.

We have only driven our F150 for a month and other then the fact that the engine quits at stop signs and when turned corners slowly we love it. It has lots of power and rides smoothly. The backseat has plenty of room for the kids or small adults to ride. The doors for the back are a little ackward to use, the crew cabs is much more convenient. If they fixed the kill problem now after putting in a new fuel pump last week and a new computer this week then I will be happy with our new truck. If they didn't fix it then I will be very disapointed in this truck and mad about it all, not fun running it back and forth to be fixed, the dealership has been really nice though.

Bought my STX 01/2010 with 28,000 miles. Like the body style. Very comfortable ride. Still like new. The only issue I have is that it shimmies when I put brakes on at > 45 MPH. Guess I'll get rotors replaced.

The new f-150 Lariat is nice. After comparing the Supercab with the Supercrew- I went with the Supercab because it has the 6.5 Ft. bed. (the supercrew has only the 5.5 ft bed.) Opt for the front bench seats- that way you can seat 6. As long as you don't put the front seats all the way back, there's plenty of room in the back seat. Wonderful finish on the Lariat. Wish it had 5 speeds for gas milage on open road. Only 16 mpg. Needs shell or cover to assist mpg. Plenty of power. No other truck is in the same league as the Lariat F-150. The Japanese trucks feel cheap & plastic. Sorry Nissan-Not in same league with the F-150 Lariat. Tundra Ok. The Chevrolet is lumbering. No to Dodge

I bought this truck new and get lots of compliments on its looks. Almost 4 years and 37,000 miles, but plenty of issues. After having water leaking around the top of my rear window, and almost having it replaced, the guy who was working on it said, "I used to work at a Ford Dealer, and it isn't the window, it is the cargo lamp gasket". I then called a dealer to find out that you can't buy a gasket, only the complete unit for $54. I also have a problem with the outside mirror remote not working. Turns out the fuse box has a break in it somewhere and needs to be replaced, another $278 for the part. A few months ago, the drivers side window stopped working..$450 more.

This is the best truck ever built. I've owned or my company has owned 5 different trucks in the past 15 years and this one makes the rest of them, including my 2001 F-250 Powerstroke Diesel 4x4 to shame in quality and design. It makes my Chevy's look like crap. If you want a REAL truck, buy the F-150.

My rear brakes squeek everytime I put them on I've taken the truck back to the dealership and they tell me there is nothing they can do about it Its the material Ford uses for their brake parts. This noise drives me crazy as nice as the truck is I wouldn't have bought it if I had known about this.

THIS REALLY IS THE ONLY TRUCK THAT EARNED THE TITLE F-150, AND I HAVE PUT SOME EXRTA FEATURES THAT I WILL MENTION. BUT FIRST, THE TRUCK HAULS LIKE NO OTHER. CHEVY, DODGE, AND TOYOTA DON'T MATCH THE TRITON V8 THIS PUPPY HAS. WHILE IT'S NOT A F-150 LIGHTNING, IT ACCELERATES VERY WELL.

This is my first truck and I do not know how I lived without it! I grew up in a truck family (both Fords and Chevys) so naturally I wanted a truck but did not want to give up car styling. Was I blown away, the 04 FXR is great on road and off and even gets looks from my friends!

THIS IS MY 3RD FORD TRUCK. THE OVERALL RIDE IS VERY COMFORTABLE. I LOVE THE LOOK OF THE GRILL AND SIDE WINDOW. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE BETTER FUEL MILAGE, BUT LIKE THE POWER. THE TURNING RADIUS IS VERY GOOD, AND HANDLES LIKE A DREAM.

the truck is much larger than the traditional f-150, but you can still pull in a parking space. i recomend the reverse sensors due to you cant see anything back there.all in all, its a great ride and nice to drive.

After driving my old '87 Ranger for over 13 yrs. it was such a pleasure to get in and drive this machine. ('04 F150 XLT 4x4 Supercab) A comparison between the two is like night and day. Now i even look for reasons to drive it.

I purchased my first Ford 74 F-250 when I was 15 years old it was beat up. I am a general contractor in Chicago My currant 04 F-150 truck is used for hauling-family trips and it is versatile for all uses. I traded in a 03 for this 04. The ride is awesome, Rear diff. factory recall at 30k., only replacement has been brakes-tires until 158,000 miles, trans rebuilt, had the oil changed today at 168,000 mil (oil every 3000 to 5000 miles)and still running strong. All my Fords have been dependable and I drive-em hard. I was going to try a Chevy before I purchased this one but the new 03 Chevy was $1,400.00 more than this 04 Lariat. I will write another review when I hit 400,000 miles!!!!!
