2000 F150 has lived up to my expectations from having owned several earlier ford products. Minimal repairs required todate. Gas mileage could be better. Comfortable to drive on long trips. Good creature comforts.

Best Trucks on the Road

This is the best truck out there. No problems with anything. One thing I have found the dealer does the best work on the truck. I am afraid to trade and buy another one as I can not get anything for this one and it is so reliable.

Still good for casual use after 19 years. . .

2000 Ford F-150 Lariat 4dr Extended Cab 4WD SB (4.6L 8cyl naturally aspired 4A)

This 4x4 Lariat has low mileage (75000 miles) with the 5.4 L engine. Ford used a cheap gasket on its rear windows that would hold up during the warranty period but that were eventually doomed to fail as the vehicle aged. Replacement is not very expensive and a common problem in this old a Ford truck, but having it explode during a downpour while driving on the Interstate was not a pleasant experience. The rear door mechanisms both failed within a few weeks of each other . . . a more expensive repair. A wide turning circle sometimes makes u turns problematic. CU rates its reliability as below average, but mechanically this user has experienced no problems with the drive train or engine. The spare tire is suspended underneath (or was) where it is subject to wear and tear from road debris and dirt as well as rust. The mechanism eventually rusted to a point where it was no longer operational. Parts can be obtained and replaced but it was cheaper to install a tire holder in the truck bed itself. Rear seating is best used for short trips or (even better) in the same way one would use a trunk on a sedan. The Lariat had two captain's seats up front, restricting the maximum seating to 5. The seats however are comfortable. While power windows, cruise control, keyless entry were standard on this vehicle, a/c and heating had to be adjusted manually. The manufacturer's paint held up well even after 19 years old although because of scratches and some minor rust it was repainted at the 18 year mark. All in all, a good truck for casual use despite predictable problems. This reviewer would recommend addition of an after market back up camera from Best Buy be added, especially if given to a teen age driver as his/her first car. Update: Used by grandson for a year. Good gas mileage, good work truck. Because of its infrequent use, I use non ethanol high octane gasoline because regular non ethanal gas is not available locally. Even after sitting for weeks outside, the eight cylinder engine started right up and ran smoothly. I would recommend keeping it covered if not garaged. Update 2/22. Actual use of this particular truck continues to be low, although actual mileage increased to about 87k during grandson's use of it. There have been no new problems since last reviewed. Top quality paint job from MAACO remains fresh and truck looks and runs like new. In a couple years, new spark plugs will be needed, an expensive repair. Auto manufacturers have increasingly made what used to be routine maintenance user unfriendly. Spark plug changes used to be simple (before 2000) but on this model require hundreds of dollars because of man hours involved in just getting to them. Removing batteries in more recent Fords can no longer be exchanged by auto parts businesses due to the complexity of the task.

This is the 3rd Ford truck product i've owned & i am a Ford truck convert for life! They ride/drive/perform flawlessly thru any circumstance. The build quality excellence is well known..just be sure to request an F-150 from Their Norfolk Va. assembly plant(best in North Amer.). I've owned a Chevy,Dodge & Toyota truck previously & although they were decent none were as good overall as the Ford. I highly recommend this vehicle..ask anyone who owns one!

I have owned three trucks in my life and so far this one is the best. This truck has taken on everything I have thrown at it and has done fine. Yes, things have broken and had to be replaced but it is a machine and things break. My only gripe is the engine size. The 5.4 is a very smooth running engine, but it lacks some horse power. My previous GMC had the venerable 5.7 vortec and the older Fords had the 351 windsor/cleveland engine. All of those engines were retired before their time. If I could change any one thing it would be to have that extra power without the need for a diesel or a supercharger. Everything else has been quality built and has proven itself.
