Used 2020 Ford Explorer SUV Consumer Reviews
DO NOT BUY
At 3200 miles, the transmission on my limited was spilling fluid everywhere. I was given a loaner, drove it for a week, and the transmission went out on it as well (at 2500 miles/ base model). I'm now in a F-150 loner. I wont be getting in another Explorer, I'm afraid to drive it. Transmission issues are serious. The car is nice on the inside, but the Explorer has lost my business.

Transmission Fell apart
Downshifts would jerk so hard that passengers were jerked forward. Lots of noise. Needed to be rebuilt. Later, the AWD module failed, just when the 5-year warranty expired. This vehicle barely has 24,000 miles, despite being 4 years old.

Less bang for the buck
I have owned Ford Explorers since 2014, my first model was the low end Explorer and I like it a lot. Very comfortable and quite. In 2017 I upgraded to the next level of Explorer. Loved the car. Plenty of power, comfort and quite. I just traded up to the 2020 version. Smaller, less features such as no navigation system, no front end sensors, very weak rear sensors, bucket seats in second row instead of bench seat and worst sound proofing I have ever encountered in a modern car. At 70mph on the interstate the noise coming from the rear of the car makes it hard to hear a person sitting next to you in the front seat. I can't imagine the noise in the second or third row. The transmission shifts and jolts the car at city driving speed and is not smooth at all. I wish I had my old Explorer back. If this is the future of this line I have bought my last.

Buy If you love living in a Ford dealership
Purchased a 2020 Ford explorer st and has been a complete POS for over five months! This thing is super dangerous to drive as it literally has a mind of it own. It reads adopt a highway signs, county road signs, church signs and anything else it can pick up on. I can set the cruise control and it will go into a nosedive or speed up to over 80 mph. I can't believe Ford hasn't taken this thing back. Customer care is completely worthless an hour on the phone every other day. The transmission is terrible feels like it's going to fall out. The touch screen/table is horrible. I live in MN so in the winter it won't turn on until the vehicle warms up. It randomly turns off the radio on it's own. You can change stations music changes but won't change on the screen. The sync system is horrible sounds like you're calling someone from the moon. Crossing my fingers for a buy back or lemon law.

Early production issues
Against my better judgement i rushed to buy the new Explorer ST. Being an existing owner of two Explorer Sports i had high expectations. Unfortunately Ford has slipped in quality. The power and performance is top notch but quality issues abound. My suv has been in the shop numerous times already for sensor issues and other quality problems. As an early buyer i am having buyers remorse for sure with a steep price tag. The 360 driving leaves something to be desired as well as i feel like i am fighting the steering wheel and the adaptive cruise control should provide some warning it is slowing you down. Finally the all season Pirelli tires leave enough to be desired that i have already purchased a new set of rims and better winter tires. Overall a good deal of misses on Ford part in the launch of this Suv.
