WORST VEHICLE EVER

This is the worst vehicle I've ever owned. This Explorer was actually at the dealer for warranty tranny repair for 7 consecutive weeks! It was a problem with Ford and the dealer, and no one ever returned my calls. I tried Customer Care at Ford and their response were "what can we do for you?" And they did nothing! I am dealing with a lawyer now to try and resolve this. The vehicle would surge forward at the end of a stop, enough that you could spill your drink or, if not wearing a seatbelt, do more damage. I was told that this is just a charcteristic of the "first in class" 6 speed transmission.

Great SUV

Im not sure why all these other people are claiming to have problems because I have never had a single problem! I have owned the car since new and now has 80,000 miles and still runs like new! I will probly have this SUV for a whole lot longer and when I eventually have to get a new car I will absolutely buy Ford again! If you think that cars will never have problems then you are not thinking right. EVERY car will need repairs in its lifetime. THere is no perfect car however I think this explorer is pretty close to perfect.

Great vehicle except Radiator and Transmission

Why were these not recalled. No issues with this vehicle — none — except the RADIATOR had to be replaced at 50,000 and the TRANSMISSION had to be replaced at 60,000. Both Ford and the dealership played dumb on the problems. Said they had never heard of these problems on a 2006. I'm sure there was collusion going on there because all it takes is one Internet search to realize this must be happening very consistently.

Nothing but trouble with the dumb thing, radiator dies out at least once every year.

The Common Complaints are Accurate

The common complaints with this vehicle are: transmission, leaky radiator, lumbar support breaks. Yep, I experienced all three. The lumbar was fixed under warranty, the radiator replaced at about 40,000 miles (out of pocket expense) and the transmission.....well, there are legit complaints about this. Mine does bang occasionally or shift hard. Most (98%) of the time, it is fine. When I began noticing the tranny problem, i researched it time and time again. Many had their transmission replaced with no improvement. Over the years, I realized it is just a sub-standard design. The problems never get worse (for me). Beyond these three issues, I have not had to put any money into my Explorer with the exception of routine and typical maintenance. It has been an very good vehicle for me; drives nicely, is quiet, and dependable.
