Good car if maintained
The Eddie Bauer AWD Explorer is a reliable car if properly maintained. I have never had problems with the drive train or engine (88,000 miles). It gets an honest 18.7 mpg at 55-65mph and the car is over 10 years old. My major maintenance was replacing rusted brake lines and rear brakes when they failed from corrosion. I'm big so I find it very comfortable, especially the leather bucket seats as do passengers in the back seats. The A/C is used a lot in the South and it works great. Change the oil every 5000 miles and change the transmission oil every 50,000 miles. Flush the radiator out when you change the transmission oil and it will last a long time. Built Ford tough.
Best truck I've ever owned
A great auto. Good gas mi.16/21, lots of cargo room, good design. Parts are expensive. Never been stuck and I do a lot of off roading. I would definetly buy another if I could afford, new price is ridiculous. Overall i am really impressed by this truck.
Will Never buy a Ford again
I have owned my Explorer for 5 years; it only has 61K miles. In the past year I have spent $4,000 in repair bills that were not covered by warranty They include replacing the following (1) the front drive shaft; (2) the air ride control module, not to mention the 4 times I took it to the dealer because the warning light kept coming back on; (3) a front shock; (4) the O2 sensor; (5) the solenoid; (6) the rear pinion, axle and carrier bearings; and (7) the rear pinion seal, twice. This is worst vehicle I have ever owned!
Great Car/Cosmetic Problems
I have had my Eddie Bauer Explorer for 1 year now. Overall, I like it b/c I was driving a little girly car. I Like the look, power, the computer, stereo system, cd changer, space, all bells and whistle options. Dislikes are constant rattling and engine noise. Its a rather rough ride, but what do you expect from an SUV/Truck.
Love it - usual problems
My EB has 130,000 on it now. Have had typical problems that would be found on any vehicle regardless of the make. Brakes, shocks, squeaks and rattles, etc. All of these things I consider normal for an older vehicle. Ball joints are a problem and very expensive because they're part of the entire upper control arm assembly. Replacement is fairly easy for a backyard mechanic, but $200 labor for each side from a dealer wouldn't be out of the question. Gas mileage is better than my best friend's V6 EB. I average 22 hwy and 17 city. Keep the vehicle well cared for and it will treat you well. Overall, I'm very satisfied and would gladly buy another.
