I have owned this car for over 10 year and the only repairs that i have ever had were to replace an oxygen sensor and another to replace a transmission sensor. This car is an absolute tank. Starts every time and shifts great. I know other people with 200,000+ on their '95 Explorer and they are still running great.

I bought my explorer in January 2017 with 173K for $650 knowing it would need work mechanically. It was a conscious purchase because I was looking specifically for a 2dr with a standard transmission. The front tires were cupping from bad suspension, and the rear shackles and shocks were showing their age. I replaced every single piece of suspension in the truck front and back, new U-Joints, clutch and accompanying parts, fuel pump, and some neglected items like the oil pressure switch, the GEM, tires, and window motors. I'm a former mechanic so I've done all the work myself. I'm into the vehicle for about $1800 and after almost 3 years it just rolled over 235K. Because this vehicle has been so reliable notwithstanding the original investment, I'm planning on replacing the rockers, and having the truck painted in 2020. I can see myself driving this for a long time. I had heard many horror stories about the overhead cam/auto transmission version of these trucks. So I'm happy that this truck has neither. Since I've owned it I ran seafoam through the motor, and switched to synthetic oil. No leaks, and it uses maybe a half quart in-between 7500mi oil changes. Im happy with my investment and would happily recommend this truck even with it's age if you find one well maintained.
