Used 2018 Ford Expedition SUV Consumer Reviews
Lipstick on a Pig
I have a 2018 Expedition XLT with the 202A package. The car looks great, the inside is comfortable, and loved it for the first 2 years. Since then I’ve been completely disappointed. Some time in year 2 the rear shocks had to be replaced. My wife drives this vehicle. Hauling kids is the hardest driving it gets. Absolutely no reason those should have gone out and should have been covered under warranty. They weren’t. Then a few months later a catalytic converter went out. The dealer tried to make us pay for it when it was under warranty but that’s another story. They eventually did it under warranty. Now the variable timing solenoid is out (year 4, 2022). All together these issues have cost over $3000. For such an expensive car I expect better. Ford got the cosmetics right but their quality is terrible. I was planning on buying an F150, but not now. Stay away from Ford and Expeditions especially. They don’t care about quality and want to over charge for what you get.

Confort at a cost
Great vehicle rides like a dream especially for a 4wd. Interior quite attractive and user friendly but I got to tell you dont buy this thing if you want descent gas mileage. I should have thought this through since most my driving is in town and not highway. I average 12 to 13 mpg (and thats with a light foot) punch it and you get 10mpg. and this would not have been acceptable had I realized this before the purchase of the vehicle. The sticker said 17 mpg but I failed to realize that was an estimate based on highway and city. So to sum it up you get a great American made vehicle with all the bells and whistles in an attractive package but its going to cost you for that luxury. If you can afford it go for it you wont be disappointed I am not sure long term I will be able to.

Towing trap
All reviews for Expedition and Ford sell towing capabilities. BUT, once you finally locate the fine print, you realize the limitations unless you pile on the expensive numerous options. Limit maybe 6,000 pounds towing TOTAL! 7/18 bought 2018 XLT FX4 with Class IV trailer towing package and other options to use in new to be purchased travel trailer towing. But, can’t tow the weight (despite being well under touted 9,200 pounds) AND missing trailer brake controller that requires yet another option package or to install after purchase. Dealers don't know or can’t do after purchase of what could be multiple days in the shop and $500-600 plus — if they could do it. Given brake controller is required for almost all towing and many laws, does Ford ignore liability if someone tows without, or tows heavier weight, and causes crash? Buyer beware.

I loved my Expedition but not Ford
My Expedition was a great vehicle with an abundance of luxury options It was fast and sturdy What I did not like was the Ford Motor Co and their licensed service departments handling of their use of defective parts in their 3.5L ecoboost 10 speed engines I am sure this will eventually become a class action lawsuit and the underhanded, shady practices of using the same defective camphaser parts when under repair will come to light Ford authorized the use of a known defective part if the dealership or service department still had stock, knowing it would eventually fail again After having ours repaired under warranty and finding out these practices, I know our confidence in Ford’s integrity plummeted

2018 Expedition-Fulfilled requirements
So far we like the 2018 Expedition. It had low mileage at 41,800 miles and we needed a Ford Expedition with the ability to pull 9000 lbs. This vehicle fit the bill with its heavy duty tow package (including 3.73 rear end). During our search, we determined most Expeditions could only pull 6000lbs. And we also needed lumbar support front power seats which this vehicle had. Several things that we were disappointed with are that the vehicle didn’t have blind spot monitoring (BSM), which we are used to on previous vehicles, and that the vehicle only had the original Ford SYNC 4.2inch screen, not SYNC 3 8 inch screen which was already a common feature on many 2018 Ford vehicles. We realize its trim level was just XLT but we were still disappointed. However we knew this buying the car so we can’t complain. After buying, we determined the original Ford SYNC 4.2 inch screen was too small to be much use so we upgraded. We overcame the lack of Ford SYNC 3 by buying an OEM after market upgrade SYNC 3 kit which resolved that shortcoming but it was pricey. It took about an hour and a half for me to modify the vehicle and convert the SYNC 4.2 inch screen to a SYNC 3 8 inch screen. Since we plan on keeping the vehicle for a while we decided the upgrade price was worth it. Besides the bigger more usable 8 inch backup screen the Sync 3 upgrade adds CarPlay so the vehicle will integrate better with our iPhones. A year later. We are happy. We have pulled a 28 ft, 7300 lb travel trailer multiple times with no problems. The car has been reliable but we have only put less than 5000 miles on it. Also like the tow back up feature I like. Good vehicle!
