Cherry King Ranch

Bought in July 15 with 83,500 miles. I've put 1250 miles on it. Nothing too bad to report. I figured with its age mpg would be a bit below the 14 city/18 highway mileage rating when new. City is right on. Highway it's doing a bit better, around 19.5 mpg. It's smoother and quieter on the highway than I thought it would be, even with the Firestone Destination AT's I put on to replace the Continental Contitrac TR's that it came with. All the electronics and bells and whistles work fine. The only negative is that 2006 still suffers from paint bubbling on the front edge of the aluminum hood. I'm told this is from a bit of iron corrupting the metal and the paint pops. Doesn't really rust, the paint just bubbles. It may also happen on the lift gate. Not much to do about it but touch up here and there before taking in for a fix. I understand this may be common on early 2000's Expy's. As for me I can live with it. That's the only negative I found so far. I'm expecting a few years of good service from the vehicle. February 2016 Update. Things are still good after 5000 miles since purchase. City mileage has drifted down to around 13 mpg. Handled Mississippi river muddy bottom land just fine during duck season. Wonderful, safe, and comfortable on road trip to Green Bay from St. Louis for Packers game. No hydroplaning in the rain with the Firestone Destination AT's. Did notice that highway mpg is about 22 at 55 mph, 19.5 at 70 mph.

We purchased or first 06 Expy Limited in July of 07. What a wonderful machine! It had everything a guy ( and his wife) could want, and with 3 grown kids ( 17 - 22) plus an occasional mother in law, leg room was never a problem. On Feb. 4th in the early morning hours, my wife hit a patch of "black ice" here in Iowa while travelling at 70mph. She will tell you upfront that she panicked when she started to slide, hit the brakes and over corrected her steering. She flipped the Expy ( all 5600 lbs plus a full tank of gas) 3 times down a ditch before landing on its top. Every airbag went off. Rescue workers pried her out, but she walked away. We bought another one when the insurance check arrived!

Overall good vehicle

I bought my Eddie Bauer Expedition new with 50 miles on it. Got a great year end deal with no interest. Fun to drive and great turning radius for a large SUV. I had 2 fuel injectors go out at 10,000 miles and the variable cam timing at 20,000 miles. Both covered under warranty but am worried why I had problems. Hopefully no additional damage to motor when it happened on the highway-limped into the Ford Dealership-seems to idle a little rough for a V-8. Had a front axle seal leak again under warranty. Looks great with deep copper metallic paint. I am a little worried about the plastic trim pieces and how they will hold-up through the years.

We purchased ours new and owned it for 10 years. I've never loved a vehicle more. It rode smoothly, handled like it was on rails, rain, snow or shine. It had a lot of room to haul stuff on trips to the beach loaded with entire family. Had plenty of room for my 6'7" son. Front seats were very comfortable, middle and rear seats were adequate. I drove it in 2 ft of snow without any issues whatsoever. In fact, this truck was a snowmobile! The long wheelbase makes it incredibly stable, and the AWD feature was just fine for anything I got into. I truly LOVED this truck. Sadly we lost her last weekend. My son was in an accident where he hit a telephone pole and rolled it. He walked away with only bumps and bruises! The fact that it's a large, solidly built truck saved his life. Mechanically, we had zero problems until just over 100K miles. It was time to change the plugs, and like others - we had 3 break off in the head. That cost $$$ to fix. Several of the catalytic converters went bad causing the check engine light to come on. Another expensive fix. We had to replace the coils after 100K miles too. We had the bubbling that others have mentioned in the paint along the leading edge of the hood and the tailgate. Frustrating because we kept it clean and waxed. The grey trim along the bottom of the truck faded but there's a liquid you can apply that makes it look brand new. The truck was gorgeous the whole time we owned it. I was so proud of it. The 5.4 engine had a ton of power and pulled our 21' boat with ease. I absolutely LOVED my Expedition and we are in the market for another one. Needless to say, I highly recommend it.

Best Family Car all around, Bulletproof!

We purchase used with 34K miles in mint condition after trading in our 2000 EB Expedition, the new body style and interior made our 2000 look like an 80's car. Such a powerful car, and finally drives like a midsized SUV, unlike the original Expeditions that drive like a badly lifted truck. That horrible triton click is finally gone too on the new Expedition. With 3 small children this SUV is like a traveling family room, DVD player (that actually plays thru the car speakers or headphones), plenty of room, power fold 3rd row seats, modern interior, I feel very safe with my kids in the car in this beast, people move out of your way when they see you coming. 10 MPG, but who cares?

Great second car

I bought my 2006 with 103,000 miles, as I needed a vehicle to tow my boat, which trailers at 6500 pounds. I use it on weekends to head to our river house. Holds lots of gear, comfortable and quiet ride. I've put another 20,000 on it and plan to keep it for another 50,000. Driven it on several long trips, taking my daughter and a vehicle full of her belongings to and from college 500 miles from home. Reliable and enjoyable ride.

SUV Comfort

This is my second Ford SUV. My first Ford Explorer was such a joy, I couldn't wait to afford an Expedition. It's spacious and very comfortable in seating and routine road handling. The interior is welcoming and functional. The seats are just the perfect height with just the right amount of support. The Expeditions are the better priced SUVs when considering functional useage, size, and family accommodations. Three of my family members bought Tahoes, but enjoy road trips in my Expedition better (rear seat entry/exit and seat comfort) as well as the configurations for cargo capacity over their Tahoes. Also Expedition standard features (XLT) result in a better cost.

Love this beast!

UPDATE: It's Dec '18 and I still have my '06 truck. She's pretty rusted under all of the doors (I live in WI), but boy does she still have an engine! She's at 199.5k. I keep her up, and have always given her what she needs. Still NOT ready to trade her in! I've owned my '06 Expedition for 9 of its 10 living years. I purchased with 32K mi. now at 167k mi. (she runs smooth). Had the typical wear and tear repairs. I also am a very rough driver, and "Big Bertha" has kept up. The only major issue is the back lift gate paint that bubbles (doesn't rust due to it being aluminum). I've had it repainted, and will have to do it again, as I plan on keeping Bertha for at least another 4 years. This is a design flaw, and something any Expedition lover, like myself, needs to deal with to keep it looking fresh. There is plenty of room for the entire family and then some. I will definitely buy another Expedition when Bertha's time is up!

5.4L has serious issues!

Just look up the slew of problems with the 5.4L in this 2006. Apparently it has a lot of issues that Ford decided to hide from the public and failed to fix. There is a class action lawsuit on the spark plugs. Apparently, there are lots of other issues, including cam phase sensors. Mine started idling rough, wife drove it a couple of miles home, 2 hours later it was at the shop. The shop is about 1 mile away. Got the call today. It needs a new engine!!! Edit: We are now just waiting until the end of the year so we can donate it to charity. It's not even worth selling. Maybe I will get a small tax benefit out of it?

Haven't had a problem.

I love my truck. Since I've had it I have not had a problem. I take it in for regular maintenance like oil changes and 30k services but nothing else has been needed. I haven't even had to change my brake pads yet. I've upgraded certain things and it rolls on 24 inch rims and tires in the spring and summer. Best vehicle i've ever owned and this is number 8. Would highly recommend!

2006 Expedition

We bought a Mercedes GL thinking it would be a good replacement for the Expedition and are glad we didn't get rid of the Expedition. The chassis are much better sorted out in the Expedition which is suprising since the GL has air springs. Steel springs on the Expo win the ride comparison and the Expo has as good or better noise isolation. The GL is one awesome machine, but the Expo is actually a better full sized SUV.

Expedition Limited_2006

After trading a 2004 Trailblazer I was delightfully impressed with the Expedition's driveability and handling. The turning radius and tracking are very impressive for a vehicle this size. It is very assuring to know of the vehicles impressive safety record as well as the curtain air bags. Very good visibility due to height of vehicle and the large foldable mirrors. Heated and cooled seats are comfortable and very adjustable. Great versatility with auto folding rear seats and manually folding mid seats. Hauled large patio set with ease. Gas mileage is better than expected with 17.5 MPG in mixed driving. Have not done trip only yet. So far I love the overall size and comfort of the 2006 Expy!

Expedition For Travel

While getting only about 14 MPG in city, the XLT does better than predicted on the highway, with most average rates running around 20MPG (with no air conditioning running). Expect to drop 2 MPG for the air. It is comfortable and highly maneuverable on the road.

Best suv for room

We almost picked up an Escalade until I sat in the back seats. I am only 5'9" and my head touched in the 3rd seat. We owned a '04 Expedition and thought we were going to upgrade but decided on the '06 Eddie Bauer. We are very happy with it,

Coil pack design will give you years of frustration. Where one coil works in most cars, Ford put coil packs on each cylinder increasing repair cost from $300 dollars per car to $2,400. Any the coil packs will need replacing more often than other vehicles and Ford will not pay for the increased cost ... so watch out

Great SUV - despite shortcomings

I love this vehicle! Spent a lot of time researching, even spent a year with a Jeep Grand Cherokee Hemi before dumping that in favor of the roomier Expedition Limited. During the buying processes I couldn't get the salesman to talk about or demo the navigation system - there was a reason for that - it's disgusting. Save yourself $2k and get an aftermarket Nav like the Pioneer. I also ordered the Bluetooth from the Ford accessory book but the dealer put in a third party system that doesn't match anything! Great vehicle but what Ford really needs to do is pay attention to how Toyota and Chrysler deliver the details and most of all how they provide service.

Glad to be back.

This is our third Expedition, and we are glad to be back. All have been excellent SUVs. Kids grew up and we went to a 4 door car. Had to borrow a friend's Expedition to go to a football game and we knew then that it was time to come back!

I was in a side impact accident, rolled 2 times (only from hitting the median). All airbags deployed. We walked away with a few bruises. The Expedition did exactly as it was supposed to. My moonroof did not have a scratch on it!

2006 Ford Expedition

Performance is outstanding, I rated a 9 because I'm unsure of the hesitation in the engine at times. When I'm cruising along at 50-60mph and approach a hill the engine seems to bog a bit? Comfort! Comfort! Comfort! Nuff Said. Fuel economy, let's be honest, you're considering this car for one of a couple of reasons; looks, hauling the family/friends, or loading it up with camping equipment and a boat. You got the money to buy this baby, you don't need to worry about the gas now do ya! Interior design is fantastic. Outside the vehicle, for the price you pay, where's the chrome wheels, and chrome trim? Still excellent craftsmanship. Reliability, to be continued in a year. Overall two thumbs up!

suprised me

Wow! I am surprised in how much I've come to like the Expedition. We/I wanted the new Chevrolet Tahoe. We just couldn't pass up the 0% financing. My wife didn't really care about which one we got. I feel the Expedition offers the best bang for the buck.

On my 2nd Expedition

I love my new expedition. I owned a 2001 for 3 years before totaling it 2 weeks ago. I hit black ice did 2 360's across 6 lanes of traffic and hit the Barrier wall head-on. I did NOT have my seatbelt on and walked out of it! I always felt very safe in it and that just confirmed it. I wasnt even looking for expeditions but saw this one and fell in love! I am a Nanny and the Kids love it.

Endless Money Pit Do Not Buy

Truck is in the shop more than on the road. Every month presents a different problem with the 2006 Expedition Limited. Last four months I replaced alternator went, coils, hub assembly left side, hub assembly right side, air conditioner compressor, steering wheel shaft and on and on. Will never purchase a Ford SUV again go Chevy.

Don't buy

This is the worse SUV I have owned, I have to replace a coil every 2-3 months, it stalls sometime when driving. The factory spark plugs breaks off in the head of the motor, costing $300 to $2500 to replace, you have to remove the motor head, sometime the motor to remove the broken plug. Ford should have recalled the cars, trucks, and suvs thats having these problems.

Ford should be sued over this horrible product. The 5.4 3v is plagued with problems and won't do anything for the loyal customers to fix or replace vehicles.

Expedition

I LOVE this vehicle. I hate the gas mileage but other than that, I adore this truck! We have searched many of the SUV's and this one is the best one for us.

Owner beward

I purchased my Ex used with about 47K miles on it. Within the first week, the car began to loose power and the engine light came on. Took it back, told nothing wrong. Happened again, the dealer sent it to the local Ford dealer who found three sensors were bad, two on the transmission. I am hopeful that the fix works. The Ex swallows anything we put in it, including our three kids and gear. Gas mileage is what it is.

Good but could be better

Good family SUV but brakes and tires are awful. Expensive upkeep.

The "Kinger" Rocks

The Expedition is a solid ride, and with the King Ranch package feels like a luxury car, but with all the SUV advantages. It also has power to spare and handles really well for its size. It's a great looking vehicle!

My tank kept me safe

I am on my second Expedition (first was a 2000 with 144,000 miles on it) and couldn't be happier with it. I was recently in an accident in it. I was going 60 in the slow lane of a 4 lane freeway in San Diego. I hydroplaned in the rain and lost control spinning from the slow lane and hit the center divide going 60 mph. I walked away with whiplash and my car has $13,654 in damages HOWEVER there is NO structural damage whatsoever. The bulk of the expenses is body work, paint, and I really did a number on the front suspension. Anyways, I am so glad my car kept me safe and is so structurally sound that it was not totaled. Now I have to wait about 4 weeks to get it back.

Very pleasant surprise

Shopped for tow vehicle. Compared Yukon and Tahoe. For the price, it was a "no brainer". Upgraded ugly stock rims and added step bars and floor mats (all aftermarket). The vehicle handles great for a big SUV. Engine is adequate and tows better than others in its class. The whining about fuel mileage on a vehicle this size is pointless. It's what you can expect. Overall a very good choice for towing and a large interior.

King ranch

This SUV is beautiful inside and out. Been hit once in the rear. It's good in such cases. Much safer than most other vehicles.

Still Love THe Room

I'm still very happy with this product. This is the second one I have bought. I like the extra room. We only have to take one instead of two when we go places with all the family members. It has been dependable with no problems at all.

Enjoy it.

This is a dream to drive. Just hate the fuel cost. I thought it would be too big for me, but it has been easy to maneuver.

Great 2nd Car

This is a great family vehicle if you have more than 4 members. It has lots of storage room and with the DVD system keeps the kids quiet all day and night on those long family trips. Could be better on gas. If gas was cheaper we would drive it all of the time. The heated and air conditioned seats are nice. Power 3rd row is a nice feature when loading and unloading. Would buy another if gas was cheaper or Ford made one in a hybrid like the Escape. But think they lost on the next buy because of gas.

Too large side view mirrors create wind noise above 65 MPH. Poor quality of material. Plastic bumpers instead what it used to be. Poor quality of interior material. Steering is not anymore "lady friendly" like it use to be on '97 models. Lack of power(4.6 L/V8-2004 EB ). I drove car for 5 months and traded it for Armada...what a difference. I would not buy/recommend Expedition any more. People do know these days what quality is and sooner FORD leadership figures that out sales will go UP again or else.

More suv than expected

I am an old school suv/truck guy (Bronco) and have never been an independent suspension fan, but this Expedition has pleasantly surprised me. I ordered the offroad suspension package and love the ride and drive of my Expedition. Overall this thing is like a Swiss army knife, you can do almost anything with it and it actually does go offroad pretty good too. The Ford Expedition is one awesome 4 wheel drive suv.

Never Again!

The vehicle vibrates while in motion, from about 25 mph and up. You can really feel it in the steering wheel. The mechanic told me he didn't notice anything. That must be what they tell them to say. Steering is very unpredictable and at highway speeds is impossible to keep on a straight line. Hit a series of bumps and you feel as if the truck is going to go out of control. The one bright spot is the engine, very powerful. Interior is the usual cheap stuff found in American vehicles and it rattles. I bought a Ford because I wanted to help out an American Company in trouble. Now I know why they're in trouble.

Love this SUV

Same mileage as my Explorer, plenty of power and loads of room. I don't think that I will be able to go back to a mid-size SUV after this vehicle.

Great Value

I love this vehicle, I feel safe with the family riding in it and you don't feel cramped up after long road trips. Ford has come along ways in the past years and I plan to stick with them.

Excellent accommodations for adults and 4 little ones, ages 3 through 8. Easy to get in and out of, and love the electric a/c seats, and automatic 3rd row folding seat. Great to drive and maneuver. It is much quieter than you expect from something this size.

I LOVE MY EXPEDITION

I love my Expedition. I have the Eddie Bauer 4WD model and it is sweet. I feel that I'm safe as I sit over everyone. So far everyone that I have given a ride in it, LOVES IT!

Love my second Expedition!

I had my first Expedition for 7 years and 100,000 miles and I loved it. When it came time for a new car, I considered and tested others but came back to the Expedition. The turning radius is amazing (especially for its size); comfort and smoothness of the ride are fantastic. I have all the bells and whistles of the Navigator but not the high price tag. Couldn't be happier with my new Expedition!

2006 EDDIE BAUER EXPEDITION

Nice upgrade from my '98 Eddie Bauer Expedition. So far no major complaints. It is a full size SUV and if you can't afford the gas -- don't buy this or any large SUV. Read complaints about uncomfortable front seats; I have not noticed that with mine. Overall, this is an excellent SUV, but my next purchase will be the Nissan Armada LE - more horse power, more towing and more low end torque.

Over all it is Good

Poor gas mileage ... only 12MPG city not 14. Has minor starting problems. Overall it is better than other SUV's for the money. Great leg and head room for tall people.

What a difference 10 years makes!

I used to own a 1997 Expy EB which I drove until it died. After driving a 4 door sedan my family started growing which meant I needed a larger vehicle. I found a nice 06 Expy Ltd which I recently purchased. It's a good SUV! I appreciate the independent rear suspension which allows the third row seat to fold flat, something my 97 was missing. The overall driving experience is much enhanced as well. There's plenty of room inside for everything and everyone I haul around, towing capacity is perfect for what I need, and the Expy actually does pretty well with off-road beach driving. Overall, this is much improved over the 97 Expy I used to have. I'm very impressed.

My First Ford ---From a MBZ buyer

My last vehicle was a Land Rover Discovery. I was actually looking for a Hybrid and went to look at the Escape. The Hybrid tacks on an additional $10K, and I want to help the environment, but is it all up to me? I won't save $10K in fuel, and the Expedition came close in price, with so much more luxury. I drove it and decided, I always do for other, and do without. As a boomer, I decided it is time to spoil me for a change. It drives like a dream. You sit in comfort and luxury. And I don't have kids, but the DVD PLAYER in the back will be perfect for when I take my Mom to Las Vegas. She can watch a movie and stop asking "are we there yet?" Sometimes the Seniors are worse than the kids. Enjoy!

Could not ask for much more!

We bought her last January to replace our AWD 1997 Mountaineer (now my winter driver, wife drives the Expy). The Expy is outstanding so so far. She has been super reliable so far, as all of the Fords I have ever owned have been. The 5.4 is really a smooth engine with more than enough power, and the trans is also smooth. We love all the bells & whistles. The power fold rear seats are one of the best options. The air ride suspension is very smooth on highway trips, and a little rough on the not so nice roads. Fuel economy is what it is (average 12mpg winter, and 14mpg summer, and bested 16 mpg's on a highway trip at about 70-75 mph) for a vehicle this size, and I new that going into it.
