Excursio
Excursion is the best SUV in the world!! You can haul like any and evrything that you can think of and still have room for the kids, their stuff and yours as well!! The only thing is that you would come out alot better (fuel wise)if you were to purchase the diesel engine. The gas engine burns alot within the city, but on the highway the gas hibernates!!
Brakes Suck
I have a 2002 that I have replaced the brakes on this vehicle 5 times in 120000 miles. They are terribly undersized for the weight of the vehicle and dealer denies knowledge of any problem, even though I have talked to other owners and mechanics, 100% agree that Ford has a major design problem with the brakes. We finally replaced the brakes with racing brakes that were cross-drilled and slotted to disapate the heat (not a Ford product) and know the brakes are working much better.

Jacks Excursion
The 6.0L diesel is great gives excellent performance and on highway I get 19-20 MPG, in city gets 15-16 MPG. Drives like a truck-what it is. Feels secure on road at highway speeds. I will keep this vehicle as long as possible, is a great tow vehicle and carries a load besides. Downside is needs lots of room for U turns, is not a city commuter. I would buy another if they are available when this one wears out. Have had only one problem with a sensor in fuel system, fixed rapidly by dealer.
Ultimate Hauler
This is mysecond Excursion purchased in the last four years. The 2004 6.0 liter diesel engine and redesigned transmission are vastly improved over my 2000 7.3 diesel engine and transmission. This new vehicle has unlimited power and is delivered smoothly and very quietly for a diesel once it has reached temperature.Fuel economy looks promising and will certainly improve as the engine breaks in.
