Piece of Junk
Don't make a mistake to buy this car, When I bought this, in the first month the transmission went out. and then leakage in the engine, then coolant leakage, and the engine light never went away. in every two weeks i had to 120$ to diagnose the problem, and pay for the extra labor and material used. its a complete headache stay away from this piece of junk.

All Looks and Zero Reliability.
I traded in a 03 Explorer for the escapes "better" fuel efficiency, which was never achieved. Day 2 of ownership problems began with sync services freezing every other time. The car also developed a vibration through the break pedal that could be felt while stopped and in gear and was accompanied by the gas pump constantly clicking making it a chore to put gas. The interior would rattle and creak like a 100 year old home. Frustration continued with a creaking front suspension, replacing of the entire rack and pinion and constant trips to master reset the MFT system. Although eligible for the buy back program the Ford customer care manager was very rude and refused to follow through.

Great car
I have had my Escape for 2 months now, and I love it. The engine is second to none in this class. Seats are extremely comfortable. I only have one knock on the vehicle and that is the brake and gas pedal too close together. Other than that, I strongly recommend the car.
wanted to love it...
I leased 2.0 liter 4WD SE, (not listed in review choices?) - No bells, just My Ford Touch, and tow package. Overall, not a bad vehicle, but needs big improvements. Had it for 3 weeks now. Wanted it for over a year. At this point i must say it needs major tweaking by Ford. Glad I only leased short term. For the price of this vehicle (just over 30 grand) I would expect much more however. Simple things like better bolstered seats, one touch up windows, better storage, and back up sensors should really be standard Ford! They are on other vehicles for sure. And for over $30,000 one should be getting push button start and back up camera!
2013 Escape Not Ready for Prime Time
I have owned a 2013 Ford Escape SEL AWD with the 2.0L engine for nearly three months and have driven it for about 4,300 miles. I have had multiple issues with the vehicle since the day of delivery. We chose this vehicle over several others based on reviews, the perception that Ford has turned the corner on quality and seeing at an auto show. We ordered it before any were available for a test drive. Sadly, a potentially great vehicle has been one bad experience after another.
268000 thousand mile car.........
This is my second Ford Escape. the first 2009 had 230 thousand miles, the only problem was the transmission died at 162 thousand miles....contacted Ford, their response was we will do NOTHING for you as the car has more than 70 thousand miles on it!!!! My current 2013 Ford escape has 268 thousand with original motor and transmission.....Great little crossover, should be a little higher off the ground, not good in deep snow. My question is WHY did the 2013 Escape get so many more miles on orginal transmission???

Multiple problems. Not as reliable as expected
I owned this car for 4 years. Bought it used in 2016 and traded it in today. Here is a list of problems I had over the years. Bought it at 30k miles and traded in at 90k. Replaced transmission at 40k. Covered by Powertrain warranty thankfully Replaced wiper arms at 45k O2 sensor replaced at 50k Wiper arms replaced again at 65k Starter replaced at 75k Battery replaced at 80k Instrument cluster And odometer screen replaced at 88k. This was the last straw. I couldn’t even trade it in without doing this fix because there’s no way to read the odometer. I got quoted for $750 at the dealer but fortunately I repaired it myself but the new LCD alone cost $120. Also had mechanic tell me the control arms and brake lines would need to be replaced in the near future, but I never got it done because I wasn’t dumping any more money into the car. Even after I replaced my battery and starter the car wouldn’t start If it sat for more than two days. Multiple Mechanics said they couldn’t find a drain on the car and weren’t sure why this was happening. Nothing too expensive to repair but lots of little annoying issues. It was too much down time for a car that doesn’t even have 100k miles in my opinion.

2013 Escape has overheated twice now after recall fix
There is something wrong with the 1.6L engine & transmission combo. My car has overheated twice after doing uphill climbs in the California hills. I'm guessing the transmission is overheating since it never knows what gear to be in, which is causing the turbo to overheat. Ford can't seem to figure out what's wrong though. If you search on the DOT website for complaints, the overheating post recall is popping up a bit. You can also see all the other transmission problems this car is having if you search around on the Ford Escape forums.
Solid and fun car
I have a 2.0 SEL AWD Escape bought last May. I've put on 5000 miles so far and I'm really pleased with it for many reasons. First of all, it's is really well made. The interior is high quality and really comfortable (I'm 6'2"... not all cars work for me). I liked the build quality much more than the CX-5. It's a blast to drive, it puts a grin on my face every day. It tracks true and is very sure on all sorts of conditions. I hardly can wait to try it in the snow! My gas milage averages around high 26mpg in mixed driving and 29 highway. With 2 kayaks this drops way down to 23-24mpg. ***Update*** 3 years later, I appreciate this car even more! In winter conditions, all wheel drive and traction control has saved me in several icy situations. The car is very nimble and is very reactive- if anything you have to be careful not to wiggle the steering wheel- the car instantly reacts. Parking is tight situations is easy. Even when I was boxed in on a city street, I was able to pull out with much fuss. Comfort wise- the seats really work for me- even though I'm tall I don't pull the seat go all the way back. The interior isn't spacious and airy- but it still works because the seats are so comcoftable and enveloping. Rear leg room is okay- I can have people (and I have a tall family) in the back without issue. Having the panoramic sun window really helps riding there! I wouldn't want to have them there for a super long trip, however. The only maintenance thing I had fixed was a grab handle became loose in the rear hatch. Gas mileage is ok- in winter I get 24+mpg mostly local driving, summer it's more like 26mpg. The most important thing? It still puts a smile on my face to drive- it's just a fun drive!!!

Not happy with my 2013 Escape
What can I say but I'm very disappointed with my 2013 Escape SE and here I was excited to get in the new sleak style of the Escape. I own a 2005 Escape still to this day and loved driving it but this new Escape is very disappointing. So where should I begin? Let's start with the gas mileage. It's poor, poor, poor. Most of my driving is on the highway so I wanted my next Escape to have good gas mileage while also being four-wheel drive or AWD as it is. I did my research on the new Escapes and it says the its gas mileage for a 2013 Escape Se gets 21 city and 28 highway. I was excited to see this since my old Escape got 18 city and 24 highway. There's no way I get that. I probably get 19 city and I definitely get 23 or 24 highway. This is very disappointing. Those extra 4 - 5 miles per gallon would really make a difference. The other issue I have is with the placement of the car battery. The battery is in a position that is almost impossible for me to get out without taking an hour or two to disconnect all the wires, hoses, and cables necessary to just get the frickin battery out. Why would the engineers put the battery in a place where you can't easily get it out? Very stupid in my opinion. Shame on you Ford!!!

Great small car but the Titanium trim is stellar.
Got used at 60k miles. Over the last 7 years the car has been reliable, comfortable and has amazing fuel economy. Averaged 24 mpg combined, all hwy can top 32mpg. The turbo has quick torque spoolup and can beat a V6. The electronics are aging , backup camera goes out in heat and SYNC occasionally needs rebooting. Ford botched the Ecoboost head redesign in latter years, but this 2.3 design has been bulletproof since 1972. Just routine oil changes and 2 batteries are only thing done. Titanium trim and auto park assist make this the used small SUV to beat. Ive added a class 4 hitch for towing and its rated for 6000 lbs. Keeping for another 10 years.
Great Vehicle
SEwith 1.6 Turbo. 4600 miles so far. Car is fast, fun and great on Gas. I get 25-26 with 50/50 Highway and City, straight up 33/34 on the interstate. Anything over 80 it drops to 29. Very versatile. SYNC is weird, but it works. Takes and makes calls, but won't work with my Nano or Shuffle. Looks good, runs good. Waiting for an SVT version to come out.
Perfect!
We wanted a reliable, safe car for our 17 year old and I know we have found it. The all wheel drive will keep her on the road and IF something happens to run her off the road she will be in one of the safest vehicles in its class. Amazingly it is comfortable even for my 6' 2" frame - Wow! And the panoramic sun roof almost makes you feel like you are in a convertible. My only humble issues with the Escape is that the Nav is not as intuitive as a Garmin Device and the Climate controls are a bit too complicated. But these are small matters compared to the overall Five Star nature of this great car!

33mpg......NOT!
This is a cute little car and it drives ok. However, the gas mileage is not what Ford tells us it should be. After trying all the latest and greatest ideas, I could only get 23 mpg.....that's 10 mpg less than what this EcoBoost car is supposed to get. Also, after trying for two months to get the Sync My Ride operational on my car......Ford tells me that it is no longer available on my car. As a matter of fact, it is not available on any model 2015 and older. I was told I have to purchase through Sirius XM to get the location services. Seriously? And to make it sooooo much better, I cannot remove the Sync My Ride application that pops up every time I am in a traffic jam unless, I want to remove the hands free system as well. When I talked to Ford about this, they did not seem to really care. This does not bode well for Ford.

Looks and feels great but Performance is bad
I purchased a new 2013 Escape 6 months ago. The vehicle look and rides great but the fuel mileage is terrible. It has been in the shop 3 times and still get 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. There are better buys out there for the money. I would not recommend it
good suv bad seats
First thing i would like to say is I'm a Nissan car salesman. I have no bias with domestic vehicles. The escape rides beautifully. I drove a rental from Atlanta, Ga to Green Bay, Wi through a major storm. No problems at all. The seats are the problem. Nissan has the zero gravity seats which are 100% more comfortable than the Ford seat. The engine and transmission work together just fine. Great visibility
I was smart to get the 7 yr/70K warranty extension
Plenty of power and smooth to drive. Poor radio quality. Navigation more difficult to use than most and misses a super feature the same dash on my focus has with a small notation of next turn name and direction. Seats very comfortable and plenty of adjustments. 2 personal seat presets, but like other cars, doesn't handle the rear view mirror. Automatic hatch under rear disabled if you put a tow hitch on because the sensor is set dead center. Mileage has averaged about 17 mpg which was a bit worse than expected. Several problems with transmission which were covered by the extended warranty.

Ford Really Delivered !!
Traded my VW Beetle (don't make me tell you about the endless problems with that horrible thing!!) In november 2012 for a new 2013 Escape with a 1.6 liter motor. It's just a terrific little car. Gutsy with a butter smooth transmission. Great in Canadian winters although it's FWD not 4 WD. It's roomy and comfortable even for a big guy like me. Seems reasonably good on gas, although I've never actually tested it. Lots of room in the cargo area. Really nothing to complain about in the 8 years I've been driving it. Still amazed at the quiet power of this tiny motor. Excellent both city and highway. Keep toying with the idea of trading it on a new one but can't really see the advantage.

Vehicle had multiple recalls, transmission failure at 60000 miles, sunroof failure, rattles and creaks like a 100 year old rocking chair. Giving it two stars because it is actually a fun vehicle to drive when your not in the repair shops loaner vehicle.

Escape SEL FWD 2.0 Excellent Small SUV
Love the body style, with the 2.0 turbo engine, powerful, fuel efficient on regular fuel and quiet. Quality materials throughout and workmanship appears to be first class. Blue tooth, navigation, Sony sound system (awesome!) with Ford "My Touch" and "Sync" is well integrated, user friendly and works flawlessly. The Escape has a firm sporty ride but is not harsh and can carve up twisty turns and curves better than most cars with exhilarating fun and confident authority. Heated leather seats are supportive and comfortable even on long drives. Storage space is pretty generous and can haul 3500 pounds with optional towing package with ease. Absolutely enjoy driving it every day.
2013 sel with 2.0 power.
I just bought a 2013 escape sel with the 2.0 engine. I test drove the 1.6 as well. I chose the 2.0 for it's overall reliability, but, the 1.6 was actually more fun to drive. I believe it's because it has less power and therefore requires the driver to be more engaged. Nonetheless, the first time I hit the gas it put a smile on my face. Despite it's other problems,it does not disappoint in the fun catagory. The 2.0 is as expected. It's a beast in the passing lane and maintains more torque at higher speeds than the 1.6. Be aware that in the 2013 sel you won't get a back up camera unless your car has a specific package that adds that on. It may not even come with back up sensors. Just be aware of this before you buy one. Mine came with no camera or sensors, but, it is in prestine condition. I got a nice aftermarket solar powered back up camera made by Auto-Vox. It's completely seperate from every other system in the car so there's no Wi-Fi or Bluetooth required. And no problems.

Reliable Escape
My Escape has been very reliable. In the beginning I had a fairly large number of dealer required recalls but overall they were painless and the Escape has been very reliable and comfortable to drive. If I have one complaint it is that the battery is a pain to replace. Nothing impossible but still requires you to remove a cowling that takes time to both remove and reinstall. Otherwise a well thought out car. Highway mileage is consistently in the 30s except in extreme winter weather where it drops to about 27.

Disappointed
I traded in a Rav4 lease for this 2013 Escape. On the plus side the power is fantastic and it looks great. On the neg side less room than the Rav, milege is no where near the 30 highway even after reaching the 5K mile break in period. Controls are difficult to reach. Everything falls out of the glove box when you open it and it is very small. It doesn't feel as solid. This is my first American car in a long time. I will go for the Honda CRV next time. Very disappointed.

Transmission out at 170k miles
I really liked the car, how it drove and it handled snow roads pretty good. (my previous Sante Fe was better) I had a constant issue with a coolant leak that could never be explained. The turbo went out at about 150- 160 k and that costs a total of 3k to fix. They said the transmission would be 4-5k. With the coolant leak and other issues cropping up I decided to trade it in. I feel newer cars should be made to last longer than this and I am very disappointed in Ford.

A Nice car but has flaws
Pros: The first impression is this is a good looking car. The interior is well laid out and includes what all back seat passengers want, rear air vents. Acceleration is good and the car handles well. Cons: Steering over compensates in panic situations. The Air/Heat controls not easy to use, unles using the display screen. The entertainment system starts with music on low then suddenly blasts you. Entertainment system changes mode when car starts(radio, MP3, Satelite). Only get 310 miles per tank of gas. Driver seat occasionally adjusts full forward when engine turned off. Too many controls on steering column is distracting and confusing.
Jury is still out
So far I've had the car 2 months, 1500 miles. I traded in a Mercedes GLK, so I was not expecting the same car in return, but I feel like I get all the same features and power for 15 k less(GLK was 45K, escape was 30K fully loaded). The build quality is not the same, but what do you expect. The power is great. Almost no difference from the GLK's 268HP V6. The ride quality is a little bumpy with the 19" wheels. The interior is as quiet as the mercedes was. I'll give the seats a "B" on the comfort level. MYFORD TOUCH is a great display but like almost every review talks about, it has BUGS! It's unreal that Ford has not figured this out? It does not pair my phone 50% of the time.
Love my escape, hate the gas mileage
I have 800 miles on my escape. Drive local, 5 miles to work, not much highway driving at all. I'm getting 15.5 miles per gallon. I'm quite upset over it since I gave up my Camry that I didn't have to fill up for 23 days At a time. Someone please tell me I will get better mileage after the break in period!
2 years old & I've spent $7,000 in Repairs
I own 2013 Ford Escape 2.0 L ecoboost AWD I bought new in 2013 It has 77,000 miles almost all freeway.. This year I've spent $7,000 in out of warranty repairs. Faulty injector and faulty BCM (body control module) $2,500. New transmission $4,500 I am so disgusted with the quality of the Ford Escape This is worst car I've ever owned and I think I would rather be hung by my toes than purchase a Ford Escape. HEED THIS WARNING.. FORD ESCAPES ARE ENDLESS MONEY PIT.

Very solid
After a week of mostly 2 lane highway driving, I offer the following observations. The cabin is very quiet and the ride quality in the front seats is excellent. It handles choppy pavement quite well. In my opinion, it continues Ford's recent unfortunate trend of being overly "tech-happy" even when the benefits appear slim. I was able to find one without FordTouch. Sync will only partially connect with my older Bluetooth phone, making but not receiving calls, a problem the salesperson says is common. I strongly suspect the buyer demographic for this car will be much older than for the Focus/Fiesta and simpler would be appreciated.
Really regretting my purchase
I've owned the Escape for only 3 months now and regret it! The microsoft sync touch system is failing miserably. Some of the functions on it freeze making things like the phone and ipod unusable all together. The navigation system can drive you in circles, literally, then just fix itself a few minutes into the drive and now the screen has just gone black, completely turned off, while driving. A few minutes after it goes black a message comes up saying "updating". I've been reading these things happening to many people but because it's not an issue with the car itself, but with the computer, the dealer just "updates" it, which fixes nothing then sends you back on your way.
Not a dependable vehicle. Move on to something else
My escape is very glichy. Sometimes the radio will not work, or the remotes do not work. The next day they will be fine. It is not the restricted driver feature, as I got very familiar with that garbage very qucikly. The first week I had the car, the rear hatch handle (used to close the hatch) came completly off. I did not yank it just pulled down and it came off in my hand. Yes, the car is zippy on dry road, but you get into a few inches of snow or mud and this silly vehicle will bog down and start slowing down. It must have some anti-slip slow down feature as all it does it make it impossible to move. ON heavy snow days I can not park in my own driveway.
3013 Escape SEL 2.0 EcoBoost
Have had this car for 7 weeks. After 900 miles on the odometer we drove it from our home in Las Vegas to Phoenix and as we entered Sun City the car recorded 30.2 MPG and there are plenty of hills to go up and down. Around Vegas we're constantly seeing 24-24.5 MPG. Power is awesome! We keep pretty much to the posted speed limit and use cruise control when applicable. I have no idea WHY other 2013 Escape owners complain about poor economy. Keep in mind this car weighs over 4,000 lbs. We drove Expeditions for 12 years (2 of them) and always got 20 MPG on the same trip.
Lessons from KIA
The Ford advertized mpg on this vehicle is a joke. On flat AZ hwy at 75 mph, with ac off you get 25 mpg. No way near the advertized 33mpg . The EPA went after KIA & Hyundai why don't they go after ford. Don,t buy this car if you expect good milage you'll be very dissapointed.
Love / Hate relationship
I usually don't write reviews, but this time I wanted to get my story out there just in case it will help someone. I've had my 2013 Escape Titanium for almost 2 weeks, it's been in the shop already. I love how it drives all the fun options, My concerns are the MPG, I bought the car thinking I will save money on gas, since I own a Ram 1500, very nice truck but just to big in the city. So I went with the Escape. Since I've had it I am averaging 18 mpg, that is City and Highway mostly Highway. My truck was getting 18 mpg. Ford has told me to drive the car until I hit 1000 miles, it has 350 right now. So I will get you guys informed of how it turns out.
Gas pump nozzle sticking in tank
Twice the gas pump nozzle has stuck in my tank. I've reported to my dealer. They've also had the same issue with the 2013 Ford Escape. Luckily I was able to forcefully get out but the dealer had to have BP oil company dismantle the pumps to get out of the cars tank. The BP dealer reported they know of 14 cases in the St Louis area of this happening. I've reported this to Ford customer service and waiting on a response. I know this has to have happened to others but they think that they have done something wrong as I did. I have a 2011 Fusion that this is not an issue. The dealer told me to not stick the pump in the car over an inch. This is really an issue to keep the pump on.
A good first effort...
... but room for improvement. 1.6L Ecoboost is plenty of go for everyday use, but doesn't achieve anywhere near the advertised fuel economy. Transmission is smooth. Interior appointment is nice in the front seating area with soft-touch material, but cheap with hard plastic in the back. MyFordTouch and SYNC are still buggy and seem to do whatever they want, with no rhyme or reason. 'Wave your foot' liftgate is a neat gimmick that doesn't work reliably. Much easier to find the key fob and hit the button twice.
Should of stuck with Honda
After having 4 Honda CRVs in a row I got very bored and decided it was time for a change. I had seen newspaper articles and tv ads about how Ford was really coming around and producing a better product so I decided to give Ford a chance and go American! Wow was I wrong. The car was in the shop less than a week after I bought it and then back in again 3 days later. I have had issues with the sunroof rattling annoyingly. The door lock not functioning properly and the Sync system has major flaws including not recognizing major Roads!!! Never in my life have I ever had an issue with any Honda ever. Ford is not ready I really made a mistake I feel like I bought a used car
Problem car
Always has a problem. Now crack in main cylinder. Will never get another Ford Escape.

Too Many Safety Issues and Recalls
This car had a major mechanical breakdown involving cam phazors at 730 miles, which required a major engine rebuild. Then the recalls started... there are 10 all total for 2013 Escapes; 4 affect my car - two related to the engine catching on fire, one for air bag (RSM) module programming and one for "door latch problems that can lead to doors flying open while driving". The airbag RSM failed at 8600 mi. Asked FORD to BUY BACK this vehicle, after the 2nd recall (engine fire). They REJECTED our request. Today I was told they would "NEVER buy back our car". Shocked to learn of 2 new recall issues 2 days ago, 5 days after the BB denial. Our FORD rep knew of safety issues but didn't tell us!!
Lemon
Feb 2017 bought with just 22000 miles. end of July-end of oct was at dealer for repair of same b asic electronics issue for all but 3 weeks. they replaced abs module, power steering module, body control module and sensor for coolant. they could not find the issue and it was extremely unreliable. i had to call the tow truck 3 x. WE had to trade in because they could not find problem, it was totally untrustworthy and risk to try to drive. hill assist light/engine default lights came on. No longer own it- end of oct traded in on RAV4 Wrote a number of letters to Ford executives Response was poor Now own RAV4 as had to trade escape back in,

Great options but cheaply made.
I bought this for my wife to haul the kids around in, and at first it was great. Every option available, and nice pickup. Within about a week one of the door panels in the back would pop out every time the door was shut. After a couple of months the transmission acts weird. Now we’ve had it for almost a year and the radio no longer works because of a faulty Audio Control Module. The vehicle definitely hasn’t been terrible, but looking back we should’ve paid more for something more reliable and made out of better quality which is what we’re going to do next.

New Escape Rocks!
Fantastic vehicle! Acceleration is quick and very responsive, leather seats are very comfortable, has every feature one could ever want in a car right now and also has good gas mileage. Ford Touch has worked great for the moment and I haven't had any issues like I read about. Hopefully that will continue. I really don't have any complaints at the moment.
The wait is finally over
A few weeks I made the final decision on the Escape. I have been tracking it for more than a year through its design and testing cycles and liked all the reviews that I had read on it. Ford had no reason to update the Escape but they did, and I like it! When compared to similiar compact SUV's it stands on top. The 1.6 Eco has plenty of power but the 2.0 Ecoboost doesnt have to be pushed much to get in and out of traffic quickly. The Tech features make the drive easier and My Ford Touch is 1000X's better than first generation Synch models.
Gas mileage
I purchased this car in March 2013. The gas mileage I have gotten is 15 mpg city and 19 mpg highway. This has been verified with the dealership. They can find nothing wrong with the car and Ford advises this is within the normal range. If you are looking for a car that is economical, this is not the car for you.

Used to love escapes...Not now
2013 Ford Escape SE- The turbos go out about every 2-3 years and that is a $3000 job! The craftsmanship of materials is poorly put together. The latch on the middle console broke right away. The plastic on the right side mirror fell off while driving. The rear window shield wiper arm broke and the car was only 3 years old when I bought it. Now apparently the tranny is bad.

economy, Sync lacking
2013 Escape SE 2.0 EcoBoost I feel like I am a victim of false advertising. Fuel economy is definitely not up to the billing. I'm lucky to keep it over 21 average. I got rid of my '05 4-Runner to try to get better mileage, but it's barely cutting it. Also, as described in numerous places here, Sync is buggy. I have recurring problems with my ipod and the Sync index. It's unpredictable and dsometimes unreliable. And when something's not right she won't shut up. Bottom line, nice vehicle for the money as long as you are aware of the problems. Don't expect much for fuel economy, at least with the 2.0, unless you drive like a granny in a warm, dry climate on flat roads.
