Dependable car I will miss driving!

After 8 years with no expenses (aside from basic maintenance), I have had a great experience with the Contour. I only wish Ford didn't discontinue the line! This car brought me back and forth across the country with great control, comfortable handling and no problems. After 120,000 miles and many years, its time to move on. I hope my next car treats me as well as the Contour has!

I bought my 1998 Contour used, have had the car about 5 months, Very nice little car eventhough it is 10 years old it is still tight, holds the road well. Replaced the 02 sensor because it would stall, also the fuel pump, extensive brake repair but then again I don't believe that the brakes were ever repaired. Nice car, worth keeping to me.

Been a Great Car

Bought this car new for my wife. She commuted 54 miles round trip, both highway and winding country roads. After 11 years and 120000 miles no problems. Replaced timing belt and plugs at 80000 as preventative maintenance along with water pump. One front wheel bearing replaced at 90000. Brakes around every 40000 miles, tires at 60000 & 110000. Still runs strong, AC still cold, decent mileage and still tight. Burns no oil. Chgd oil & air filter every 5000. Probably keep it until it dies. Did the work myself so it has cost very little to operate over the last 11 years. Basically changed the oil and drove it. What more could you ask for in a car? Great Car!

Good handling but under-powered sedan

Bought used as an end-of-lease car from dealer, and it had high mileage. This car was the GL but with the Sport package (tach, leather wheel, 15" aluminum wheels, sunroof, fog lights, better suspension, etc.). I put 17" wheels and performance tires on, and handling increased dramatically. It's always been comfortable inside but lacks the power that the V6 engine provides. If I did it again, I'd go for the SE or SVT models. The sunroof had a $10 plastic gear break, resulting in a $2,500 repair bill (warrantee, thank God). Warning lights do come on intermittently and they're hard to diagnose (check engine and air bag on mine).

Had the car for two years and have had nothing but problems. Average money put into the car in two years : 3000 $. new transmission, tires, engine, battery, and O2 sensors that were suposed to fix the check engine light but its still on from 6 months ago. Runs badly in the winter, barely starts. Cant wait to sell it. Oh and to make a copy of your key will set you back about 150 dollars!
