Turbo fun!
I bought this car for $1000 canadian, it was in very good condition, all i had to do was some exhaust work. Since has been working very well. I was very surprised by the amount of horsepower (150) out of the 2.5 litre, 4 cylinder engine... especially the fact that it is now 12 years old, and has 197000k's. At least my first car was a decent one.
1990 Shadow
I have had this car for twelve years, since i bought it new. For the last several years it has been at my weekend home and is used only for local driving. Despite long periods of idlness, the car starts up and drives without trouble, maintenance is low. It is dependable transportation, and fun to drive.

Fun Car with Speed & Reliability
This is my second 1991 ES Convt Turbo. I can't tell you how thrilled I was to find another. Very, very hard to find. This one had only 80K (Carfax certified) The Paint was very good except the trunk area. Not one ding on the car. The top is in VGC and the interior looks great. The car runs and drives excellent and everything works except A/C which was converted to 134a & just needs a compressor. Driving impression: The Turbo really sends this car flying and yet the engine at normal operating speeds is quite quiet & smooth, even at a stop light. This is the best car experience for $2,000 you can get. VG Reliability. It will blow the doors of any 90's Miata, etc.
Great car, lots of power, lots of fun
This is a 2.5 turbo automatic convertible. It takes turns like it's on rails. It has power off the line and on the highway. It really handle well, and idle smoothly. These 2.5 liter engines are just about bulletproof. Automatic shifting is smooth. Just love the car. Seats are real comfortable. Just a great car and cheap to maintain. The most fun you can have driving and very dependable.
Me and My Shadow
I love my car. I am the only owner and the only problem I have had was the fuel pump went out. Shame they don't make them anymore.
The Machine
Bought car with 64,000 miles for $2,700 and drove it to 240,000 miles before it died. I only wish I could find another work car like this.
Love it!
I really love my Shadow... as a teen age girl its the best thing sence sliced bread. IT runs well and the convertable top it great!
Best car for family
My 91 shadow american is the best car for a family. Its not made to 'get up and go' like a sports car but a family thats looking for a reliable car that goes and goes, this is it. The only thing replaced in this car was the fuel pump. Everything else has been perfect. My car doesnt have power windows, cruise and all that. What it does have is quality and dependablity. Thats what makes it a great car. Two car seats in back fit fine. The kids enjoy riding in our car.
Fun to Drive
At 150K, this car runs like a Tiger! The 2.2 litter four-cylinder engine averages 25-city/30-highway mileage per gallon. The two misgiving on this vehicle are the air-conditioning and 0to 40 miles takeoff speed. The air- condition compressor and high-pressure side hoses need major design improvement.
Wrok horse
Like most dodges, the engine was great, but the body was crap. It started to fall apart as soon as I got it. Clear coat coming off, liners coming down. BUT, the engine ran and ran. It saved us so much money to drive it into the ground. Hard city driving and long family visit roadtrips. Overall I definitely got my money out of it.
I Loved My Dodge Shadow Baby!
I had a 1991 Dodge Shadow Convertible for over 20 years. It was blue with a red racing stripe. I loved the way it looked and drove. It never had any major problems until 2018 when I discovered it was rusting out underneath, so I had to replace it. I still miss it!

Average at best
I received what I thought was a cream puff...in 2003, I was given my grandmother's 1990 Dodge Shadow with only 27,000 miles on it to use as a second vehicle. Overall, it was pretty average and dull, though I will say it did get around very well in the snow. I had owned a 1991 Escort a few years ealier, and to compare the Shadow to the Escort, which were competing vehicles, the Escort blew it away. On the surface, the Shadow seemed better, with more horsepower, larger wheels, and more options, but where the Escort was peppy and fun to drive and great on gas, the Shadow was like driving a lawn mower, and was not very good on gas for a 4-cylinder with 93 hp.
I'm finally selling it
I'm the original owner of an '89 Shadow 4 door 2.5L non turbo. Let's face it, this car has been about as much fun to drive as a shopping cart. But fun is sometimes secondary to what a car should be about. Unlike other Chrysler made vehicles that I have owned, the Shadow has been an icon of reliability and stallworh dependabilty...under all types of conditions.
Very Poor
The transmission leaked from the moment I got this car. The doors are poorly designed so that you can hear too much wind noise ans the seals around the doors slide so water leaks in. I got the car with only 56,000 miles on it but it was terrible from day 1. Stay away from this car. The hatchback wouldn't even stay up because the hydrolic arms were cheap.
Sport Convertible
I love my Shadbow convertible, although it's old.
none
I love this little car. It's roomy enough for me, great car!
91 Dodge Shadow
I bought the car with 46K and now it's at 110k. It's traveled from Seattle to Wisconsin and now to Florida to live. This car has been a great companion. I've used it for my paper route as well as personal use and all my kids learned to drive in it. I've had to replace the radiator, brakes (2 times) and have the a/c fixed and of course new tires. But its been a great car.
Love my Lil mopars
This is my 5th ,Pcar,Shodow/sundance.this is my third convertable, I had a two door, and a 4 door. 2.2,2.5, and 3 litre. The American 4 cylinders were dependable, cheap to maintain I loved them. The 3.0 was was smokey, and ran out of steam by 80mpg.The cars are well made for being entry-level, and heavy.I love them.
