Bomb Proof
I love this truck. It's a beast to drive with a 5-speed stick, but I won't own an automatic anymore. The Cummins 5.9 is an awesome engine that just goes and goes and goes. Although this '93 has a lot less horsepower than the newer ones, it's got lots of torque and gets good mileage. I have a 2000 pound camper on the truck all the time and regularly get 17+ mpg, but have gotten as low as 13.5 driving switchbacks. It starts every time, gives me zero trouble, has enough power to get me and my camper up the hills with ease, has a good stereo system (stock), great a/c, and has been 100% reliable for the two years I've owned it. It's got 145k miles and I expect it to go many, many more.
Couldn't ask for more
Got it used as a cheap temporary hauler in the cheap section of the paper. Let's face it, it has zero sex appeal. I knew Cummins meant something, but boy did I hit the jackpot. Hauls effortlessly. What a pleasure. When I'm not hauling I take the family on the road where it gets 21mpg. It is a ridiculously good truck. I know somewhere there is someone kicking themselves for having sold it. When I get the new car smell urge I try to remember that. This is the best vehicle I've ever owned.. As long as I don't become a vain little pansy, this will be my ride.
great work horse
owned this vehicle since new, four trips to alaska and back pulling 10,000 lbs never failed me. Shes a road legal John Deere. Parts are affordiable and easy to obtain even in Canada.
92 Dodge Cummins
250000 miles, used for towing horse & utility trailers and general ranch/farm work. Above average time in 4WD and on dirt roads. No major mechanical problems & still 100% reliable and gets about 21 MPG on the hwy. Pulling a gooseneck horse trailer, 12-15 MPG average. I perform my own maintenance & have replaced all fluids with Amsoil products; including an aux. oil filter. The motor has no leaks. I have replaced all hoses once and flush & replace the antifreeze every two years. Oil changes at 50K with the Amsoil aux filter. I replaced the seat last month & have had it repainted as the paint flaked off at 100K miles. The gears, clutch, and transmission are fine.
Peterbuilt pick-up
We bought this truck new off the lot and haven't had a problem yet. With 418,000 plus miles, it has not failed pulling more than our other trucks. With a sold frame and rear end, this is a heavy duty truck.
Good old Pickup
I bought this pickup used with 98,000 mi on it. I now have 150,000 on it has been a very reliable pickup. The only thing I have had trouble with is the speedometer. It has the diesel engine that gets about 20 mpg on the highway. It doesnt have the power of the new diesels. But it pulls a 7,000 lb trailer 60-65 MPH all day.
Grandpa Truck
Our truck belonged to an old man at church....I wish it were 4X4,but she'll do! There are not many old trucks that get around 22 mpg. of course it is a Cummins engine.
This is a great truck
This truck has gotten me threw blizzards, snow storms, hail, and slush with out a problem. Its only 2 wheel drive i cnt emagine what the 4 wheel drive version would do. This truck gets the best gas milage i fill up every 2 weeks or so. It's pulled loads that a new dually dodge couldnt do in 4 wheel. This truck has been good to me my family has owned it since it was new, and it became my first truck and i dont ever intend on selling it.
Work Horse
One of the strongest most reliable trucks out there. If you want to play with the rest, get ready to pay like rest;as well.
best truck ever built
my family got this truck new with the cummins turbo diesel in it we now have over 250,000 Miles on it and it is still going good
Great Truck
Was an absolutely indestructible truck. Bought it with almost 200k and sold it with almost 300k. During that time it almost never broke down, only requiring, a set of front rotors, and a radiator. other than that, just standard maintenance ( oil changes, filters, and adjusting the valves. The truck has a cummins 5.9 with a 5 speed manual. Even despite the transmissions moderate torque rating, it handled any extra power, and heavy loads that i could throw at it, provided you put an extra quart of fluid into it (one of the only ways to keep a getrag 360 trans going), the seats were more comfortable than my 01, and for that matter any other car i have ridden in.
The Beast
Bought brand new and now it is 16 years old. Shame Edmunds thinks it is only worth 600 bucks trade in. This has been an excellent truck. No problems other than regular maintenance issues. Cummins says it all plus 22 miles to the Gallon. New comparable trucks cost 45k+ - I don't think so.
I'll buy another one when this one dies
I bought this truck when I was in high school and fell in love with it. Simple to work on. I've put 65 extra hp in her. It sits at 225 hp which is just right for what I do. I will buy another one of these tanks.
Tank
This truck is a tank. its has around 277,000 miles and still haulin. Not problems other then old breaks from sitting. This truck was well built. im 17 years out and you know how teens drive. This truck is my baby and pulls through. Its not fast but it will pull. The 1993 reg cab LE cummins is a great truck. Vary durable and stands up with teenagers
Should a kept it
My 93 was bought used from a friend. Couldn't keep it stock though... Low miles (35,000) when I bought it.. 6 inches of lift 37's on weld typhoons. Turbo swap, injector pump modified, 60 horse injectors, 4 inch exhaust, intake and intercooler swap. 350 hp. And 800 ft. Lbs of tq. 4.56 gears. Bought a new truck in 03. New one is nice but I miss the old one. Leaf spring front ends go so much better in the deep snow. 1 hand on the wheel anytime. The new truck is a handful in the same conditions. And eats up the tires too. It has more power than the old one and thats about it. I drove that 12 valve to 158,000 miles no problems ever. Even being modified.
Old Reliable
I bought this truck used from a rancher to pull a trailer I was pulling with my little Nissan. Long story short, this thing pulls. Rides really rough unloaded! 21 mpg is what I normally average, does not make any difference loaded vs. unloaded. Very roomy cab.
The best truck ever
I had this truck when we bought it new and I've never looked back. With more than 170,000 miles and no major problems it's the best truck I've ever had. It does great on the trails. I've taken this truck to hell and back and its not failed me yet
mixed review of Cummins Turbo model
I was with my dad when he bought this truck new in 1992 and 5 years and 105,000 miles later I bought it from him. He put 105K on pulling a big fifth wheel all over the country and went through 3 transmissions before finally getting one that stuck. The cummins TD is a gem and will never fail. Ever. And the truck will pull anything and gets fantastic mileage with and without a load. But I have had a ton of problems underneath with U- joints, wheel bearings and seals, and the rear differential. I poured thousands into this truck repeatedly and finally decided I would stop and just "drive it til it blows". Problem is that it won't.
Great value work truck
We are the third owners. Purchased as a work truck this truck is dependable. Put on new master cylinder brakes and now needs new antilock brake device but other than that has held up well! Also like the heavy duty suspension because we haul equipment as contractors that carry heavy load sometimes.
Great truck

awsome truck
very good and lots of power
kkmarkel
Has been good. No problems other than weather related to paint on top of hood after 6 years in San Francisco Bay area. Cover of cab stroage box should be stiffer so can sit on or use to crawl over.
Last of the old body trucks
This thing is a beast. 200,000 miles and the Cummins still starts instantly, not a bit of trouble. Transmissioin shifts imperceptably smooth. Power windows and locks still work, A/C still works, cruise control still works, power mirrors... everything on it still works 30 years on. Chrysler was not known for quality in these days, but I have had zero issues with this truck. Take care of your vehicle, and it'll take care of you. It won't get you anywhere fast, but it'll get you there reliably. 18-21 MPG average. Finding parts can be tricky, all the quality replacements have been discontinued for 20 years, and no junkyards still have any left. FB marketplace, forums, and ebay are the only choice for OEM stuff. Only complaint I have is the ride. It rides terribly over rough roads. I have a cupholder console on the bench seat, and if I didn't get a travel mug with a lid, my tea would end up all over the place. Put a 4" straight pipe on it, and you will not regret it. Sounds wicked. They don't make em like this any more, and you will likely never see another one on the road. Old body Fords and Chevys are everywhere, but you simply never see an old Dodge. There are plenty of performance parts to be had for these trucks. You can easily double the power for very little cash, if you do the work yourself, which is mostly simple bolt-ons. These trucks are very easy and fun to work on, and respond well to mods because they are so vastly de-tuned from the factory. You can literally double the power for less than $4,000. The transmissions are the weak link. If you start making too much more than stock, plan on a few grand for a transmission upgrade. Or just stick in a 6spd manual from a newer truck. Upgraded automatics are available, but mainly for 4x4 models. There are not as many options for the 2wd. If you plan to lift the truck, do yourself a favor and get a 4x4 model. There is only 1 lift kit option out there for the 2wd, and it involves coil spring spacers, coil springs, and an aftermarket control arm. You get a claimed 3" of lift and can run a 33" tire. However, the front suspensions on the 2wd trucks is not very robust, especially with a 1,100 pound Cummins sitting on top of it. Plus, coil spring spacers aren't a good idea. Just save yourself the headaches and get a 4x4. I have Moog 7226S heavy duty coil springs on mine (2wd), and it brought the font end up a good inch and a half. Not quite level, but a huge improvement over the sagging old stock springs. They fit without any modifications.

Can't beat it
Great truck, bought with 144,000 miles on it, gonna see 300,000 I'm sure. Tons of power when needed, gets 20-25 miles per gallon when empty.
