1997 Dodge Intrepid
I bought the 1997 Intrepid for my teen. She learned to drive in this car. I felt that it was very safe for her. I bought the car from a neighbor who had kept it in the garage so the paint was in mint condition. The Intrepid has been reliable and is a very comfortable ride. It has quick acceleration and power. It is a great car for road trips and handles well. It is not economical on gas because it has a 3.5 liter engine. It definitely has the power when you need it. Have never had any major mechanical problems with the Intrepid.
dodge intrepid sport
I have had my 97 intrepid sport since new,has moon roof and trip computer, with autostick and 3.5 liter engine 214 hp,it has 97000 miles on it and has been a good car. the water pump and the timing belt has been replaced .transmission has not gave me any trouble although i keep the fluid changed.Sometimes when its cold it changes funny for about a min, done this since new.after that its ok, c rI had it on many a long trip and had been dependable. i also hate the wind noise the car delivers, the 97 and earlier intrepids, have also heard of this from the new ones also, but i dont know about this for sure!
Will never buy Dodge again
I thought it was a nice car when I bougth it, but after all the trouble I've had with it over a few years I have regretted buying it. The check engine light is always on, but there are no porblems that they can find and I already spent 3k trying to fix it. The transmission is crap. The torque converter that is supposed to save gas mileage only serves to wear the transmission out.
Excellent Car
I have had my car since it was brand new. I had to replace the master cylinder and alternator last year (year five), but aside from that it's been a dream car.
A decent car
I put over 65000 miles on my Intrepid, it currently has 114k. I have been very pleased with it. It has had minor repairs but nothing that made it undrivable. I kept up the scheduled maintenance and the car has been reliable. It still has lots of power, gets good gas mileage, and doesn't use oil. The AC went out at about 80k, but I recharge it myself every two weeks (cost $10) to keep it cold. No big deal.
Shame on you M&M Dodge in Kalamazoo,MI
I never though my 97 Intrepid would have turned out this bad. I replaced almost everything. I even had a friend make me a bolt for the engine because no one had a replacement. On my way to work my car just died. The only thing I haven't replaced was the computer and I had done nothing to the wiring. Towed it to M&M Dodge in Kalamazoo, MI what I told them what the problem was but they didn't want to hear it. Woman are dumb! Joking. Well they figured out it was the computer, after they pulled off my new water pump, wanted $400 to put it back on. When my mom took the car back they told her it was unsafe, give them the title. The car was safe, they took the car.She fell for it. Shame on you M&M Dodge!
Very fast and comfortable car to drive
I own the Intrepid LE 3.5L engine. I bought the car in 1998 to drive to Madison, Wi and Tennessee in the same week and it drove like a champ!! But, a few years later the air conditioner went out. I had to replace a floater in the gas tank and water pump. I had a couple of other items in the front end fixed and the regular maintenance. Now, the oil pressure light has came on which the car will just die out at a red light but starts back up again.A mechanic said that the engine is going out and that I might have a couple months left before it goes out completely. The check engine light comes on but it goes back out sometimes right away and maybe after a day or two. Could it be my crankshaft?
My first car, lemon
I bought this car used in 2010. I don't remember the exact millage but I believe it was over 150XXX. The AC didn't work, the turn radius was horrible, and there was a cassette stuck in the cassette player. I used to ask my passengers to try to get out for fun. 7 months after I bought it, it started overheating, got stuck on the side of the road a couple times. Had to replace the radiator and it cost about $500. Month later, the transmission went and I decided to junk it.
