11 Month Reveiw

I purchased my Durango Limited with the 5.7L motor (why isn't that an option for Model Selection?) Anyway, after putting 13k miles on it in the past 11 months I am overall happy. I'm 6', 300lbs and I'm quite comfortable in it. I've had as many as six adult passengers in the SUV and no one has complained about leg room or comfort. My only complaints so far are; (1) could be less hard plastic in the interior - the front seat belt covers were missing when I bought the SUV and the pouch on the back of the driver's seat was gone. (2) The left rear quarter panel seem to have rust issues just behind the fuel door. I see this on many Gen2 Durangos. (3) Both the 4.7L and 5.7L motors are very susceptible to exhaust manifold leakage mainly due to manifold bolts breaking. (4) If I’m not careful, I get overflow/spit-back when fueling up. There was a recall for this but I keep forgetting to check if my Durango still qualifies being that it’s 10 years old now.

We purchased our 2006 Durango just over 10 years ago when it was new. It's been completely reliable and has never let us down. It makes it through deep snow to our rural home on those winter nights. Interior, while not fancy, is very usable and well laid out. The fuel mileage is what you'd expect on a full size 4X4 SUV with a V8. We've taken it on a number of trips and it's very comfortable.

I just picked this vehicle up and it's a dream. The HEMI is very responsive and it drives like a dream. Kind of like driving a recliner down the highway. Got the loaded out Limited with navigation, 6 disk changer, Sirus Satellite radio and DVD player. It's Inferno Red which I guess is a new color for this year. Heated seats, love the auto climate control too. I has the tip start feature to which works pretty good. I always have a confident feeling while driving this Durango. I've read other posts here before deciding to buy and a few listed gas mileage specs. I've got over 1000 miles and the average economy on the highway is between 18 and 20 mpg. I supposed a heavy foot could change that

I haul football players all the time. This SUV has been to LA four times in two months with a load of kids and lots of equipment. I love the ride. The teenagers do not have a problem in the third row, nor is there a complaint as I got this SUV at the same price as I purchased a 2005 Honda Accord. I do wish the fuel was better. I have the low end SUV, but still have all power and room for 7! I must also state that I am a real estate agent, and this SUV may not have been one of the high end utilities that my peers have but I look just as good!

Our 2006 Durango has been a reliable workhorse. Other than routine maintenance and one recall it's never had a single issue. It never has a problem even in the worst snowstorms, it handles well on the highway, is extremely comfortable for long drives, and it can do it all while carrying a lot of gear. Fuel economy isn't great, but it's a full frame, full size, big SUV so I don't expect it to have great fuel mileage. The 4.7 has plenty of power and the interior is simple and easy to keep clean. Resale value isn't great, but as a used car buyer that's an advantage, and one of the reasons we purchased it in 2011.

I am a Dodge man. I love the power of my Dodge HEMI. My wife and I bought it originally so that we could travel with our whole family for my job. Great on road handling. I drive much more cautiously than I did when I was younger, so I treat this truck like a baby. But when I need power to pass or tow. WOW! It goes like a bat out of you-know-where.

We purchased the 5.7 Hemi. I would pass my friends uphill while pulling a horse trailer as they pulled nothing. At the same time I can't expect much in the way of Fuel Economy. Not the greatest on comfort or technology but it got the job done. Loved the 3rd row. The quality of materials was not great. Also experienced the loss of a few seat belt covers.

It doesn't list the option of of the 5.7 L hemi but that's what it is. I bought it in November of 2015. So far so good I really like it and I'm a Chevy girl so I'm surprised! The plastic seat parts where mostly broken off when I bought it but it seems to be normal for this car. Motor and transmission are running strong. The kids really like the DVD player. The back seats fold very easily, my 6 year old can get out from the back row on her own and she couldn't in our 2001 Tahoe. I find the car very comfortable with plenty of leg room. I hate that there is really no trunk unless the 3rd row is down but that's with most mid size suv's. The technology is lacking for a 2006 I think. Over all I would give it a 4 out of 5 horns! ;)

I bought my 2006 Dodge Durango while Chrysler offered $5,000 off or 0% financing (actually the $5,000 off was the better deal with it being financed elsewhere). I love the truck. It is very capable in 4wd and offers plenty of power. I also love the sound of the V8. Nothing sounds better than a V8. I recently drove through the mountains of VA and WVA and was very pleased with how much power the Durango had. The only downer was I only got 18mpg on the trip. If you don't mind spending a little extra on gas, this is a great vehicle!!

Durango SLT Hemi

Analyzed the difference in mileage between the Durango Hemi 2WD vs. the Tribute 2WD we owned. Based on our actual experience, over a 2000 mile trip at $3.00 per gallon, we would pay approximately $35.00 more to drive the Durango. More room, more power, improved interior services such as third row seating and rear heat/ac controls. Bang for buck, the Durango is larger, quieter, stronger, more powerful. Only a slight increase in insurance coverage ($5.00/mo.) over the Tribute. $390 more for fuel on an annual basis. I think it's worth the price for the increased safety, comfort and carrying capacity. Point of clarification, we own the 2005 Durango SLT 2WD with the Hemi engine. Thanks.

I love this vehicle, fun to drive, handles and drives like no other truck, tight and responsive, and the ride is oh so smooth. Let's not forget that Hemi it,s a gotta have, The interior a little plain could use more eh..style? but its nicely put together and very functional. Exterior nice all around, you learn to love the pinched snout (that's where the Hemi is) 2007 will bring a new nose. Now it's Achille's heel. Gas mileage window sticker 13 city 18 hwy. My avg 12.2 cty 21 hwy now i gotta say the right foot is a little Hemi happy. In these $3.00 bucks plus fuel days I sometimes yearn for a car again. But, it is a truck, and it sucks fuel like one. would I recommend it ? Yes

My 2006 Dodge Durango stalled out while driving after the oil light and then the engine light came on three minutes later I'm stranded in traffic unable to start my vehicle again as it turns out my oil pressure sending unit was faulty causing my PCM to shut down and disable my engine from restarting which cause me to be involved in a rear end collision suffering from multiple head injuries. After reporting this to FCA they said that because the service shop had repaired my vehicle prior to my complaint there is nothing they can do to prove that they were liable for this insidant even though they have a poor design by engineering a vehicle to shut down and disable it from restarting in the event that your PCM thinks you have no oil in your engine so you don't ruin your engine it shuts it down. I could have been killed. I've been off work for a year due to my injuries and now I have a vehicle that I'm never gonna be able to drive again for fear that it will shut down again but Chrysler won't help me or address the issue. If my vehicle would not have shut down in traffic by design I would not have been injured in this accident. As I love my Durango , bought it brand new in 2006 for $45k and took very good maintenance care with it hoping it would last me much longer then it did , I am now out a vehicle and have to purchase another all because some engineer designed something to keep you from ruining your cars engine now I have to spend the rest of my life with post traumatic concussion syndrome. Thank you Chrysler all because there haven't been 1000 other people complain about the same thing and I had to have my vehicle repaired in order to get it into the body shop , they can't help me.

I traded in my 2002 Mercedes-Benz S500 to get a truck. I have to say that I'm not 100% happy but I'm also not disappointed. I have to say the Durango is fun to drive and the interior quality is better than good. The six in dash CD player and steering wheel control are easy to use and the ride is like a car. I give this one a 9 out of 10 in the truck category. The third row seat is also well suited, and the quality of the leather is also well above average.

2006 SLT HEMI Gunmetal gray, I bought this vehicle used with around 30.000 miles on it and can't get over how fantastic it is, The original purchaser ordered many upgrades like leather etc. It's fast, has great mileage and it handles better than any SUV I've owned and I've owned them all, It is by far THE best bargain in the class. I do feel the interior is kind of "low- tech" but still looks good and classy.

I have had my new '06 Durango for three weeks now and love it. It is quiet like a limosine until you step on the gas and feel the incredible power of the Hemi. The interior is fantasitic. Dash is superb! Seats are really comfortable and power driver's seat standard. Yes! I bought this one without running boards and now see that I will have to order some. It's a long way up! The gas mileage is lower than expected, but the power will be great for pulling my motorcycle and trailer to TX every winter. The looks are OK. Haven't got used to the front end yet but everything else makes it great! Front will grow on me. Crawled under and had a look. Now that is built tough, but rides great!

I have owned Chevy, Ford & Dodge SUVs, This is by far the worst. I had my Ford Explorer for 100,000 miles and no major problems, Chevy Trailblazer, I owned for short time, but no problems. This SUV I have had back to the dealer 3 times for the same problem, it doesn't want to shift into higher gears, a few times the tack jumped between 1 & 2 like crazy for no reason and the dealer can not fix it ! The A/C doesn't cool off the back seat at all, the plastic has broke around both front seats. I only have 27,000 miles and I have all these problems already. I'm going back to Ford and not touching a Dodge again. It's a shame because my parents both drive Dodges also, we were a Dodge family !

We bought this car used as it came off of a lease. It was in excellent condition, except for the head-phones (for the DVD player) which were broken. It is perfect for our family of 3 little children. My wife loves the navigation system, and the kids like the DVD Player. We bought an SUV because the winters in Canada are pretty severe. I can say that this car has handled superbly in the snow. I now do NOT get stuck getting in and out of the driveway like I used to with my old car. This car is quieter than my 1990 Lexus LS 400, and seems to get better gas mileage, and is more comfortable too. There is absolutely no wind noise what-so-ever while driving. It's really a fabulous SUV.

This is the second new style Durango I have owned. I had a 2004 SLT with the hemi which I loved. Traded it in on this 2006 Limited Hemi. The MPS gets me about 2 more mpg city (15) and 4 more mpg on the highway (22). The Alpine sound system is geat as is all the other creature comforts! Can't beat the options, power, and performance compared to other SUV's of similar and higher price.

The truck is pragmatic for large families. Handling, agility, speed etc etc is all comporable to it's competition. The Hemi would be the only outstanding characteristic above other trucks of it's class. I have owned two and have a family of 5 so, I know and appreciate the value the Durango, but objectively, there is nothing spectacular for consumer reviews. If you like the the cosmetics and are planning to keep it for the life of the loan, then you will get your money's worth. If you like to trade every two years you will be disappointed with ground truth trade in value of this depreciating asset.

Best vehicle on the market for a family of 4 to 6 kids. Car seats fit great. Fun on the highway and off the highway. Mileage reasonable for the power. Ride is superb. Cornering is solid. Has and incredibly tight turning radius and is easy to park even for inexperienced drivers. The look of the vehicle is stunning in with the metallic black paint job. Roomy interior for tall people. Cargo room is breathtaking. Dodge made a mistake. The vehicle should be priced $10K more for something that rivals the drivability of a Lexus, Cadillac, or a BMW SUV. And oh by the way, the Durango can tow where these upscale SUV's can't.

This is the 2nd SUV that I have owned. The Durango is a very well-built, durable vehicle. I see myself owning this vehicle for at least 8-10 years. The only complaint that I have is that it seems like there is a very minute exhaust leak sound coming from that general vacinity. I took it to the dealership, but after they replaced the exhaust manifold, it seems like I can still hear it. The sound is very slight. If you're not listening for it, you really can't hear it.

The ride is comfortable, sterring is great and the outcome of the two is an awsome ride. And there are three rows so when we travel with family or friends there is no question on which vehicle we will go in. I choose this vehicle over the Expedition that dosen't compare.

Currently close to 3000 miles and 300 mile highway trip rated 20.9. Wife also likes better than truck, easier to drive and ride is fantastic. For the money, 8 seats and Hemi, no other choice.

We live in Charlotte, NC and purchased a 2006 SLT 4x4 only 12 days ago. This, after 8 months of shopping for that "Perfect Safety Vehicle". The Durango is a "safety tank" 5-star everything. Essentially, we have taken it on the "World's Longest Test Drive" by driving to upstate NY (900 miles each way). What a great ride! The seats are great, dash design is sharp, the gauges at night are a very cool aqua green, and it has a very good stock sound system. As for gas, it's an SUV, it will not have Honda Accord gas mileage. But, we tracked 5 tanks at an average of 20.2 mpg. Great for the size of the vehicle! Why people buy expensive luxury SUV's is beyond me after driving our Durango.

First off, I am used to driving Suburbans, so I've had a bit of a time trying to get used to the Durango. The Durango is a well build, beautiful vehicle, it just isn't the right vehicle for me. The tight suspension is my main complaint with the rugged/harsh side by side rocking each time I go over a small bump of any kind. I find the front seats very uncomfortable for both my hubby and myself. My daughters love it for comfort and traveling, but for us its a no go. Passengers in the middle row seat leaves absolutely no leg room for them. Where is all this spacious room that is advertised in the Durango? I do not like the cargo room either. It's just not a practicle vehicle for me.

I just changed my 2002 Mercedes C32 AMG (349 HP) for a 2006 Durango Limited with the HEMI Magnum engine. To be honest, I feel better now than before. Performance or comfort are just as good, except when cornering. The Alpine sound system in then Durango sounds better, to me than the BOSE system in the MB. The controls on the steering wheel are better than in the MB. The seats are just as nice, but the Hemi, WOW! I could not imagine its power until now. Jumping on the gas pedal, although fatal to your budget, is beneficial to the heart--feeling those 325 horse exploding out through them rear tires, just makes your heart pump all that fat out of your arteries.

I have had this 2006 Limited HEMI for 3 years now and no problems whatsoever. This is an excellent SUV. It will tow just about any trailer with the 5.7L HEMI. Fit and finish on the interior of the Limited model is very good overall. Plenty of off the line power with no lag. Factory Navigation system from Alpine is very good, although it isn't touchscreen and requires CD map updates periodically. Ride and comfort are exceptional. Visibility is outstanding. Perhaps a bit better final inspection as a drain pipe wasn't originally installed in the side pillar which caused water leaks in the first rain. Dealer installed at no charge. Overall, Dodge makes some very fine trucks like this one.

Traded my 2001 Durango for 2006 limited w/ Hemi engine. I have a family of 5 that needs to tow almost 9000 pounds. This is the vehicle to do that. It also has the best fold flat third row seat of any mid size SUV. So simple, seats 3 in the rear bench with 3 headrests and 3 shoulder harnesses. Can be folded or raised from outside the vehicle. Ride quality is so much improved over the old style. Very safe SUV for the family and the rear DVD/CD player is awesome for the kids. They can switch between a DVD,CD,Sat Radio,AM/FM, or MP3 discs. Power liftgate is great! CONS: Needs rear view camera system like Nissan Armada,no dual zone climate control, legs hit running board upon exit/entry.

my family bought a 06' Durango SLT in December of 2010 for me when i turn 16, so far most of the plastic on the seat belts has fallen off, the motor and the transmission needs full replacing because it burns oil and its lazy and doesnt want to shift into second gear. What was Dodge thinking in 2006??

Loving my new Durango more everyday!!

I recently purchased an '06 Durango SLT 4x4. I was driving a '04 Infiniti G35 coupe. Needless to say it was a huge change. After getting used to stepping up instead of stepping down, I have found that I am loving my new Durango more and more everyday. I test drove many SUV's ranging from small ones like the Mitsubishi Outlander, and the large ones. The Durango has all the fun and appeal of of a larger SUV with the handling of the small ones. I was sold on the test drive. Gas mileage is so so, but what do you respect this the size of this car. The interior is very nice and the exterior is styling. My only complaint would be to add a couple of little features.

My 2006 Dodge Durango is a vast improvement over my 2001 Durango: the ride is MUCH smoother, it has more power, and the seats are nicer. The drawbacks are: cheaper carpet which is easily marred, plastic pieces on the seats pop off randomly, the 2nd row seat belts are difficult for kids old enough (8, 10) to take off their seat belts, the gap between the front seats and the middle console is no man's land, where almost anything can fall through, AND the number one strange feature - THE RADIO LOUDLY CRACKLES AND POPS WHEN IT ISN'T EVEN ON! Maybe it's SIRIUS trying to break through since I didn't re-up? Dealership has no clue and offered no remedy.

I traded in my 1 year old Jeep Liberty that my husband surprised me with, way too small, he was understanding and we decided to look for new trucks. We almost bought the Lexus GX440 for alot more money, but decided to leave the dealer on the way home saw the Durango for a lot less money. We did purchase an extended warranty a week after at a Chrysler dealership and the warranty was much cheaper. I love this truck, rides great, gas is what I expected it to be. And with the $6000.00 rebate you can't beat it.

I had a 2002 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition so it was loaded with all the goodies. When I bought the Durango it was SXT model so it doesn't have any of the bells and whistles that the Explorer had but it drives much smoother, faster, and is more comfortable than the Explorer. I regret not getting the Hemi and SLT or Limited edition but I was already at my limit. Cold mornings it's a little sluggish until it gets warm but the past few days of hot weather in Colorado it's fast off the mark!

Exceptional features minus the bling. As a 6'4 Mr.Mom, I can comfortably haul our kids or sheets of drywall without missing a beat! I get 14mpg in the city and about 19-20mpg on the highway. Our Durango is a pleasure to drive. Steering is smooth and responsive. The interior is quiet. By the way, on the freeway the Hemi is the real deal! When you need to change lanes it goes into warp speed although the driver always feels a sense of being in total control.

I recently bought my Dodge Durango in the end of Aug. The Durango is the best out of them all. From its new spacious design to the 4.7 under the hood its an all around great car. (the only bad thing was that on 9-3-05 some lady rear ended me leaving me without it for three weeks.) Also for the price of the new Durango you can't find a better ride with all the standard features that are expensive options on other suvs Grab life by the horns go DODGE!

We purchased this Durango as second owners, vehicle off lease. Had 14000 miles on it up to 36000 now. A couple of waranty items, the dash module had to be replaced, other than that is has been excellent vehicle. Averages 19-23 mpg on highway. Very solid nice ride, does great in the snow/ice. We enjoy the versatile seating/stereo/dvd/comfort of the durango. Heated seats a must for leather

The Durango is a fantastic vehicle and a great value. I bought an '05 model, got a $7K rebate and a very low interest rate. My Durango is an incredibly powerful vehicle that's very comfortable and a joy to drive. I recommend the Durango for anyone who needs a vehicle that handles like a car, can pull a large boat or trailer, seats seven, and (truly) goes off road. In the past 25 years, I've owned a Chevy K5 Blazer, a Suburban, a Ford Explorer, and a Nissan Pathfinder, all were 4x4. I rate the Durango the clear number one with the Pathfinder second, the Ford third and the GM products last. The Durango is number one in the $25-55K price range. Definitely drive one before buying any other SUV.

My first Durango was a pre-owned '99. It had 13,000 mi when I bought it over 4 yrs ago. By the time I decided to trade it in, it had over 100,000 miles on it. I didn't see anything else on the road that caught my eye, so I went back to what I know. This 2006 Durango is awesome! I even splurged for the 335hp V8 Hemi (what a rush :-) I was able to build my own Durango on line and pick it up at my local dealership. I didn't have to haggle over pricing or options. I love the smooth ride, the powerful engine, the power liftgate and 6 CD changer. My kids love the DVD and wireless headphones. It's perfect for family road trips and fits my lifestyle

How I wish car seats fit properly

My only issue with the Dodge Durango is that i cannot get my infant car seat to fit properly when rear facing... even if I move the passenger seat all the way forward (so no one can sit in the passenger seat if this is done). Not impressed at all that I bought an SUV (family oriented vehicle) and I cannot even safely transport my child). What a waste of money.

I have owned SUV's from GM, Ford and Hyundai, both new and used. This is my second used Durango- the other is a 2007 which I just sold to my daughter & son-in-law. For performance, ride quality & comfort, safety features and purchase value, I feel the Durango is unsurpassed. I recommend purchasing a Certified Used Vehicle- peace of mind for a few more dollars, especially if you intend to keep the vehicle for at least several years.

25 mpg with a Hemi!

I have had this vehicle for 2 years and have taken many long trips and done quite a bit of towing. When driven conservatively, I experienced 25 mpg on a trip from NY to Vermont! It is an amazing vehicle and has been very reliable. I have had very few issues with the vehicle and the only disappointing factor is the rapid depreciation. I picked it up when it was 4 months old with 4000 miles for 20k, so I'm in a better situation than most who purchased these vehicles new, but based off my ownership experience and total and complete satisfaction, I would recommend a Durango to anyone looking for the extra space and ability to tow.
