When my BMW broke down i had to get a new vehicle. I work for a VW dealership and a customer traded this durango in. This truck was immaculant for the miles. I was used to 30 mpg but always in a small car. This SUV is comfortable and very fun to drive. I have heard and saw all the horror stories about this truck. I will not be getting rid of this vehicle at all!!!

2000 Dodge Durango

I purchased a Durango with 4.7 V8 overhead valve motor. This motor has plenty of get and go. It will squeal the tires without hesitation. The motor needs proper oil changes and I would recommend high quality motor oil. The bad side of this vehicle is you will average 12 MPG and it took quite a while to heat up. Get an auto start for it. I keep record of my fills and I mostly drove rural roads. My vehicle had rear air which was nice. If MPG is not an issue I would recommend the vehicle.

Been a Good Truck

Bought my Durango new and have put 118,000 miles on it. I tow a bass boat, drive across dove fields, take trips and drove it to work. One constant problem is the front rotors are good for 16 months and 21,000 miles. Then they have to be replaced. Looking for a rotor solution. The truck otherwise has performed well. My wife and I enjoy driving it on a trip as the ride is comfortable, solid, quiet and I can pass anybody any time. I don't get those who complain about the gas mileage ? All Fords, Chevy's etc get 14 mpg or less. I get 14 mpg in town and 21 mpg on the road. I plan to drive it till the wheels fall off

I had my Dodge Durango for 10 years and loved every minute of it. It did what I wanted and I had great gas mileage when I drove it 20 mpg on the highway. I cried when I traded it in for a newer SUV.

I bought this thinking the gas mileage wouldn't be too bad with a 4.7 v8, boy was I wrong. My biggest complaint is the gas mileage and visibility. There is no reason a car with only a 4.7 should be getting this bad of gas mileage not to mention no nuts either! You'll be pushing 3500 rpm to pass on a hill. And the visibility being bad is because of the large sized window towers. But the 4x4 is awesome. It is impossible to get this thing stuck, its been deep in the snow and sand and has owned both like no problem. It handles curves very well with a tighter suspension, but does only 'okay' in snow and ice, it tends to slip a lot because of how high the rpms run.

I bought my Durango brand new in 2000. LOVED it for the most part. Routine oil changes and maintenance, ran great. After 100k miles, replaced water pump, heater core, radiator, transmission, fuel pump, catalytic converter, and multiple sensors. In 2008 found out it had major issues with wires corroding in wiring harness (reason for blowing sensors). Spent $2500 for temp fix (permanent fix $5000 plus labor) Chrysler told me this was common in the Durango but not enough for a recall. Just changed the alternator this week and still have lots of computer issues. It only has 157k miles on it now....Am beginning to despise it. Think it's time to let it die and get something new I'm afraid

LOVE this car/truck. I have had it now for almost 10 years and it is in great shape. BEST FEATURE - excellent turning range makes it easy to get just about anywhere. Holds seven passengers with ease on a 5.9 liter v- 8. Has great towing capacity and strong roof racks. It is our "vacation- travel" car. I now have a little Volvo t50 wagon, but love to drive Big Red the best. I have to say, the gas prices have taken a bite out of the time we spend driving it, but we will NEVER sell it. Great car.

I own a 2000 dodge durango with a 5.9 and i love it. It's a truck it fits my family and ok no matter what everything breaks down and has to be fixed. I have owned many dodges. But Ive owned chevy and ford and had more problems with the ford than i have with myany of my dodges. My point is when you have a bad experience with a car everyone blames the car. You love it till you have to fix it. Well it's just like a child it has it's needs too. I can tell you if your buying any car not to buy the 4.7 engines they do suck, they run great at first but they crash and burn in trucks. I can vouch for that first hand. I will never purchase a 4.7 in any vehicle ever again. Pop for the more expensive engine and then take care of it like you would a kid. Any car well taken care of will last you a long time. My dodge I call her Sadie and she's 18 years old... she's having her problems but we have not given up and blamed her for what's wrong. She's a machine and can't fix herself just as we need doctor's to help us. Sides as they age cars have more problems same as us humans. Some manufacturer error... but not all some problems come from the drivers who drive them. If treat them horrible they fall apart.

I love my 2000 Sport... First truck I have ever had for my first vehicle. I love it! Traded a ford ranger for it. The fords frame was rusted through, and the durango needed a new tranny that we didn't know about right away, but got that fixed and now it drives like a pro. Gets through feet and feet of snow. shoot, it even climbs snow hills.

Durable & Aggressive

I have owned this Durango since its inception back in November 1999 and it has been impressive. A lot of people bash these durangos based on reliability, though I have witnessed its durability through the 10 years I have owned it. I am at about 400,000 KM/ 240,000 Miles and it has only broken down once where a minor $200 fuel pump repair took place. It has been a great family car and has done its job perfectly. An obvious flaw is the terrible fuel efficiency at 14 mpg city, which you can actually witness your fuel dwindling as you drive. Overall, it's a great ride, it's good in the winter, and it's got a very generous towing capacity. I'm just glad I have a 2010 Corolla on the side.

My family has owned our 2000 durango for 12 years now and it is a fantastic truck. With just about 166,000 miles its still kicking. Just took a truckload of people comfortably to Warped Tour in it with no problems. With the seats down, there's like 80 cubic feet of storage (more than a hummer). Only things that have been replaced are the door locks and heater core and also the AC compressor a long time ago. Can't kill this engine if you tried. A true tank in the snow and ice. Only complaint is the gas mileage, but otherwise this truck has served me well.

I bought my durango in 2006 with 80,000 mi on it. Since then the only major repairs I have done were the water pump and the blend door. Being two separate transactions only totaled about $2800 both done by Firestone. I have had an issue with turning off at a stop light with little to no warning. But if you let the engine warm up it is an amazing truck. I now have 168,000 mi on it and it is still running strong. My favorite feature on the truck is the seating. The entire family can go on trips comfortably. With seating for up to 9 people and 2nd and 3rd row fold flat seats makes moving a breeze. I would absolutely recommend this car. I will own this car till the wheels fall off.

Bought SLT+ with 38000 miles in 01. Engine died at 105,000 miles. Required a completely new engine (alternative? a 6000 pound paper-weight). Many others have complained about the oil pressure dropping - google "oil pump failure Dodge Durango" and see the results for yourself. If you buy one, you will regret this purchase. I personally will never buy Dodge again. JUNK SUV.

This was the worst truck I ever owned. At 45000 miles the front wheel bearings went out. I called and asked about a recall, and the dealer said no recall was planned. A month later a recall was issued. At 50000 miles the transmission started to slip. At 60000 miles the water pump was toast. at 105000 the engine was gone despite oil changes every 3000 miles. After looking in the engine block there was so much sluge it looked like the oil had never been changed. Also both power window motors when at 50000 miles. If you are thinking about this car think again. I will never buy a dodge again.

Me and my family have had this truck for almost 10 years and it has definitely been worth it. I have always been a traditional SUV guy and still am because of this truck. The 4.7 L is great, the 4WD system worked terrific in the snow, and at 240,000 miles it is still running. Besides a cracked head gasket replacement which was a bit of a pain, nothing else has gone wrong. It was a great road trip car and we love it. I am worried that it may go soon so its replacement GMC Yukon has already been purchased, but I hope it lasts for a long time. Even with its terrible fuel economy, I'm convinced its one of the best cars I have owned.

I have owned this truck for 2 years and it is great! The 5.9 has great performance and with several bolt on parts it performs even better. MPG not desireable but expected from a 5.9. Tows with ease! manual transfer case always reliable. Transmission is probably the weak link in this truck. Interior is very comfortable, leather adds to comfort. Very solid SUV!

Had to replace engine at 86,000 miles. This is due to an engine sludge problem Dodge doesn't want to talk about. The limited slip differential needed rebuilding at 91,000 miles. Any dealer would say these troubles are do the lack of maintanence, not true in my case. I'm done with DaimlerChrysler Croporation.

What a pig. I like to buy cars and drive them forever. I had this Durango in the dealer for overheating problems no less than 5 times over the course of 1.5 yrs. (yes I am stubborn). New water pump, new radiator, new thermostat, new hoses... still overheats. Replaced sway bars and a few yrs later the front end squeeks again. Fast truck and fun to drive. But not reliable and terrible mileage (14-15 on the hwy doing avg 70-75). Hit a bump and you're airborne. You can do better.

Bought this truck in 2006 with 60K. Currently at 84K. I have replaced the AC evaporator & compressor, PS pump, brake lines (rust), brake pads & rotors. I run synthetic oil (change at 3K) and trans fluid and have had none of the sludge problems that I read about. It has a full tow package and I pull a 20ft travel trailer. I love driving this truck - it does anything I need it to do and is easy to drive in traffic. I just wish the fuel mileage was better. I have gotten as high as 16 on the highway @ 55mph w/o the trailer (12 @ 70mph) but drops to 7 w/trailer. In town is 8-9. I would love to see if I could get the Hemi with cyl deactivation retrofitted to this truck.

I once read a Durango review that stated, "You never forget you're driving a truck" and that is a perfect description of this SUV's ride comfort. I wanted truck-like durability so I wasn't worried about the harshness of the ride; I liked the high clearance and true off-road capability of this vehicle. However, there is a huge oil-pressure issue with this engine. Dodge blames "sludge" and poor maintenance but even meticulously maintained Durangos meet the same fate. Our engine literally blew up just before 60,000 miles. Replaced the engine only to discover more issues requiring money. I loved driving this SUV but warn used car buyers to steer clear of this potential money pit.

We have had this car for about a year and it has been good to us. The leather and suade interior is so nice! The 2nd and 3rd rows are very spacious. A few things we don't like is the mpg! We get about 12-15 city and 15-17 hwy. Not very economical at all. Also the lever to put down the 2nd row seats is too close to the plastics. I always scrape my nuckle as it is VERY hard to pull. Other then that its a nice family suv, that's if your last name is Gates or Trump. As the gas price will cost you a fortune! !!!

We've owned the Durango for roughly 2 years and it only has 54,000 miles. Overheating is very common and now the head gaskets are blown. It'll run $1,100 to $1,600 to repair. Save some heartache and don't go Durango. However, if you enjoy sitting in the 3rd seat while it cools down, this may be the gas guzzler for you.

Have owned this vehicle since new and it now has 73K+ miles. Had one issue with an air conditioning relay which was a $250 repair and it happened just after the warranty ended. Also had the recall repair for the ball joints. This has been and continues to be a reliable vehicle for me. The gas mileage (about 18 Hwy) leaves some to be desired but it is on the high end for what I expected for this vehicle. The interior components are not the best quality, the break easily.

At about 7500 miles it misses a shift at redline and the engine does the cutoff routine. I take it into Suburban Chryser (Saint Paul, MN) to be looked at "for missing a shift at redline". The dealer has it all day, puts about 150 miles on it and tells me this is normal operation. B.S. I complain to Chrysler corp. they tell me to take it to another dealer. I have never owned a car with an automatic that doesn't shift at redline. Last dodge I will ever own. Very Incompetent people at Suburban Chrysler in Saint Paul, MN

This car is okay, and that's about it. You don't expect an SUV to get 25 mpg, but this thing is like Dudley Moore at last call - drink, drink, drink. It doesn't "hug" the road well, and it really feels only average in the snow (part of the reason for owning an SUV). It hasn't been a horrible experience, but no way I buy it again.

Threw a rod at 47,000 miles and adjuster stated it was due to a faulty gasket that caused the oil to burn up, however neither Chrysler nor our extended warranty would cover it. Had to replace the engine at a cost of over $4,000. We've had to take the vehicle in a few times to repair the electric windows and door locks. The back rear AC makes loud clacking noises in hot weather.

97K miles and it’s yard art. After taking care of the Durango with top quality service and fluids this puppy overheated driving up the hill to my house warping both heads. Steer clear of Dodge products they are poorly built and do not stand up to real word use.

I purchased a 2000 dodge durango as a certified used truck. It came with a warranty . It hav been 5 years and I have not put one dime into this truck (excluding reg. maint) untill today. I have recently purchased a new warranty with U.S fidells and today I am replacing the evaporator (121000 miles.) Great truck very dependable.poor gas mileage. well built and fun to drive. It could very well run forever with the new warranty.covered until 210000 miles.

For hauling a batch of kids, going camping, skiing, and trips to Costco it's great. However, it'a a pig on gas (13.8 mpg over 80K miles) and not maintenance free. The exh manifold bolts have broken, the drive shaft U- joint replaced, door locks replaced 2 times a new power steering pump and 3 sets of brakes. It has also depreciated $20K over 4 years making this a great used value, at my expense! I won't buy another new one.

I would change very few things on my Durango. My Durango has moved my family two times now and that has paid for the truck ten times over. It can pull anything I throw at it, drive in any kinds of condition with complete safety and keeps us safe even when foolish drivers deciede they need to hit us. It's a shame the new Durango looks like a minivan.

We bought this vehicle second hand from a lot. The gas mileage, according to the upper display, is abysmal. We have had many problems with reliability. We have had the PCM, (primary control module) replaced. This was done under the factory drive train warranty. We continue to have intermittent "Check engine" lights, fluctuating tachometer readings of 1000 RPM, without actual RPM changes, and miserable gas mileage. Our local Dodge dealership is unable to determine the cause due to "no codes" being registered. While this may be a good SUV in the eyes of some, mine sucks. For the record, I bought mine in 2005 for $16,400.00, The following year, it wasn't worth $7,400.

With regular maintenance and upkeep the 2000 Dodge Durango Sport will run till you wreck it! We had just around out 130k on it and had covered from the west coast, the south, and the heart of the midwest. The only problem we had was with the passenger side actuator ($10), drivers side windows (both required no new parts)and heater took a while to heat up and that was only after having Firestone work on it.... I don't blame Dodge. If your looking for a sturdy vehicle DO this Dodge! It will run until somebody smashes into you and totals it....p.s. the wife drove it away after it was hit...STURDY STURDY STURDY

Bought when my kids were young and I couldn't drive a mini van. At 96K only a water pump has gone bad. I've taken good care of it though, bu it has chewed thru 3 sets of tires. Otherwise it runs every time and the 360 V8 sounds and feels great. I use it to pull my motorbike around. Taking it to the state park next March with the entire family. It'll be "the car" we all remember. Tough, American, strong and heavy. Dependable and true.

I bought this truck new in 2000. I had to put a new engine in at 80,000 miles and just put in a new transmission at 102,000. Now it's leaking fluid...probably the radiator needs repair. Water pump also just went out... expensive, but solid truck feel. I'm selling it to buy a toyota or lexus... or honda... or... anything but a DODGE!

I cant speak enough about my Durango, its like an old worn shoe. Even though we have added a new car to our family, we hope to keep the Durango till it rots away. The fuel consumption is horrible but everything else makes up for it. we have been rear ended twice both times we drove away while the other cars were towed. Front breaks seem to need replacement every two years or so. But I'm not joking when I say this truck has been a best friend, and easily the best car I have ever bought!
