Good Family Truck
Bought x-cab new; impressed w/ 6 seat belts. Was our "big" family vehicle for several years, with two child seats in rear seat. Been happy to have 4.3 V-6 w/ 5 spd stick for gas mileage. Enough power to tow boat or trailer with skid-steer, haul dirt, sand, firewood. Very versatile. With high gas prices I'm relearning how to drive around town, and with octane additive in gas I'm getting 17-19 mpg in town. Always running late when on highway, & at 75-85 mph gas mileage is same as in town. Clutch went out twice early--once when wife was driving; rear diff bearings & drive shaft carrier bearings replaced twice. getting bit of rust on cab btm; ONLY REASON TO TRADE: NO AIR BAGS
Awesome Toy
This is one awseome truck. This truck will go anywhere and the 4 wheel drive system shifts easly. It is a basic, no nonsense 4X4. It rides smooth on the road and tackles the mud and snow with ease. The 5.7, 5 speed still works great and has 226,000 miles on it. You can open the hood and actually see the engine. Brakes work fine and the steering is still tight after all these miles. It does not have all the modern devices like the newer trucks, but it is more dependable. The brush guard and winch are a added feature for a off road hunting and fishing toy and my dog loves to ride.
Good Ol' Reliable
I have owned this truck for almost four years now, along with three other vehicles, I cannot tell you how many times I have had to turn to my truck when other vehicles just would not get the job done. for the last three years it has been my work truck, and as much as I have ignored taking care of it, she has never left me standing.
Like a rock? More like a tank!
Org. engine went to 177k mi and was still running when replaced in 12/02 (long blk), flushed trans/repl filter, new radiator, serviced transfer case & both differentials, new brakes (rotors, pads shoes, cylinders, etc), have 208k (total) now and runs great. Only issues are wiper motor, body: usual rust-out in lower ext cab area, some starting on top of cab and tail gate (not unusual for IN vehicle that sees a LOT of salt), heater fan motor occasionally won't start, and tail gate won't release properly. I have beat/worked the hell out of this truck, its built like a tank, I'd trust it to drive across country.
'92 Silverado - Reliable Ride
Smooth ride overall, this has been a very reliable truck still runnning on the original drivetrain, having replaced only common wear items like brakes, water pump, alternator, tires, etc. I have driven other brands of trucks friends had, and to me the others dont compare as far as handling, and drivability. The best thing you can do is change the oil and transmission fluid regularly as recommended. And lube front suspension.
